I want this game.  I miss the days of UO.

However, I do have concerns.  I know the developers said they "know" the problems, but want other things tested from the beta players.  The three concerns I have are...

    1)  Housing.  There's only going to be space available for about 50% of the players and more space will be added later with patches from what I read.  But the fact that there won't be enough for everyone concerns me.  On top of which, how much spacing will there be between houses?  Walking out my front door just to see the backside of someone's house 2ft from me isn't appealing.

    2) Naval Battle.  I remember the same thing with popping your ship in and out of your inventory in UO.  I also remember seeing ships lined up all along the shoreline.  I hope that's not allowed as it would be an eye sore.  Though I doubt people will do that due to PKs/Pirates.  However, my main concern is 50 ships in a naval battle all cluttered together and unable to move.

    3) Buying Labor.  I read that higher-lvl players could buy labor from lower-lvl players.  I dunno.  I'm not fond of that idea.  It just seems like a second form gold that gold sellers would be able to sell.  On top of which it gives power to people with $$$.  It seems like people with money will come out ahead since they can just buy multiple accounts and give the labor to their main account.

If anyone knows about info from the developers on these 3 concerns please let me know.  Either way, I still plan to try this game.

and these guys are no rookies. i am pretty sure, they know, how to find one of the good publishers and how to contract them. if they need more time for this task, that is just another good sign for me.

however, we dont know enough about some very important details in game-mechanics, in order to be too enthusiastic.

It's not even really a case of being ethusiastic tbh... it's more of a case of what this game is aiming for, whether it realises it or not, having made me wake up to the reality of whats being offered by other studios.

I am not burned out with the idea of a MMORPG, but I am definitely burned out wth the insepid, lazy, uninspired product being offered. I think I had just resigned myself to no dev actually aiming higher. For example, people attack VG for having had a rough launch, and it did, for many reasons, but at least Sigil were trying. I just havent seen that level of ambition since.

I  know it's time for me to take a step back and just wait for something worthy of my time when a game is released with the major selling point of 'it's polished... it works'.

I'm very excited about this game; it looks like it will (hopefully) fill the gaps left by so many mmo's these days.

Thanks to vesavius who mentioned Arche Age on the thread about why s/he won't be playing Rift.  I hadn't heard of this game before that, not sure at all why we aren't seeing more about it.

If devs dont fail hard in critical decisions (like DFO developers non adding skill cap) this game and its features can become the new god in the mmorpg planet.

But, but, but he attacked me when I was low life!

Yes, HE DID, why you cant do the same to him?

Uf that will take me a lot of time...

    HERE IS YOUR QUEST!

Then its up to the publishers in NA not to WoW it up and well be all good.

So how come MMORPG.com doesnt have it listed up as one of the "recently added" games...or why haven't they added it on to one of their game list at all?

  • Harleking89Harleking89 Member Posts: 68

Err, gotta be honest, this game almost seems too good to be true. I mean, look at it. No, I haven't played UO, ever. I'm not familiar with the content in UO. But I can see now why it was good, in a way. Good is an understatement though. This is how a VIRTUAL WORLD should be like.

If this game actually comes out with... "All of that stuff" working out well, then why play any other MMO if you got the computer specs for it???

All it takes is one bad day.

It doesnt matter what the PVE is like. theres more to Archeage than PVE, PVE has nothing to do with the reason why people are xcited about the game.

    ...just kidding
...Yeah it is a valid concern, it seems to be the trend when publishing games from the east.  Westernization is a total crock of shit,  I don't know how the hell it came to be standard,  I hate it.  I need diversity.
    Down with Westernization!

Western capitalism mentality.. Try to sell it to as many people as possible to make as much money as possible, therefore make it as easy and mindless as possible to appeal to the lowest common denominator player type.

Arche Age does look interesting, but as usual in this era of WoW knockoffs.. I'll take a wait and see stance before getting my hopes up heh

Firsly, don't take it for granted.XL said that they plan to create a PvE system similar to WoW's-if they succeed is a whole different story. Also I disagree on your point why people should not be excited about ArcheAge's PvE, I would love to see an open-ended sanbox MMO featuring a stunning character class/skill system having a PvE system like WoW's,and it's a reason why I got more excited for this game. And by the way,I used to play WoW since Vanilla..I raided a lot back then, continuing to The burning Crusade era and I had tons of fun-I loved it,because fights were tactic wise. But then Wotlk came, and when I done my first raids/instances It was an epic dissapointment. So I hope that they plan to make a PvE system similar to WoW's concerning the fight/combat system and not they easiness or the lack of some real tactics/lore.

Sandbox MMORPGs that are not very well-known but definitely worth a look:

Ryzom, Haven and Hearth, Xsyon, The Repopulation, UO private shards, Mortal Online, Darkfall 1 remakes (New Dawn or Rise of Agon), RPG MO, Project Gorgon, EQ: Sanctuary (custom  server)

     All we know about ArcheAge.

An interesting forum post regarding some good information about the game.

This sounds like the MMO that was sucked out of my brain while I sleep at night.  They even took the idea of making and selling maps.  WOW.

I will be keeping an eye on this.

Awesome to see this post still on the main page.  Obviously a lot of anticipation for a game like this.  Hopefully it is a success and incorporates all of the designers ideas.

I am very interested in this game, as I am an old UOplayer, but kind of sucks that its so far off...Lastest I could see is that 1Q 2012 would probably be the earliest western release date, and most likely 3-6 months after that to be realistic.

I am excited at the prospect of a grand sandboxish game like this....I just hope they don't screw it up and make it some pay to win type game....I am fine if they want to do f2p and pay for unlocking content or something...I would prefer a sub model myself....I am skeptical of f2p, and it changing to p2w.

So if you don't want them to screw it up then it's better to wait more...I really want to play this game so much, but I am FUCKING sick of vaporwaves and unfinished released games. Also,I have to agree with you about the payment option, and I hope it's going to be a P2P game. And I doubt that the closed/open betas will be open to EU/NA before Q1 of 2012..

Sounds REALLY good. Casuals will whine about it though so I don't know how long they can stand their ground and keep the system that way.

But this MMO is trying to break the WoW-fest MMOs. Here's hoping its something at least.

unfortunately i dont think this game is going to be seen for western people for few years from now, if its not even close release in asia right ? so being able to play this game even in 2012 is way off the charts... it would definetely take more time unless the devs are planning to open the game for both audience, asia and west simultaneously, am i mistaken ?

Rumor or not, im glad that i have TERA OB account so i can wait for ArcheAge OB, even if this isnt true:

There’s a rumor making its rounds that XLGames is planning to hold ArcheAge’s OBT (open beta test) in November. If this is true, and if XLGames follows a release schedule similar to Aion’s and TERA’s (open beta flows seamlessly into final release after a few weeks), then that means we could be playing ArcheAge by this time next year (if you have a valid Korean account, of course)!

Another interesting bit of news: Min-Hee Jeon, the famous Korean fantasy author who is working on ArcheAge’s lore, has released a 48-page-long story for free on the internet. It concerns on a female child’s growth from a tragic youth into a strong adult in the ArcheAge universe. It’s extremely unlikely that we’ll ever get a full translation of the story, but the fact that it exists is reason enough to believe that a lot of thought is going into ArcheAge’s lore.

Yea those casual gamers sure whined about it on UO with all those gate spells and recall runes. Terrible I tell you.

Teleporting has nothing to do with casual.
