You're just proving my point...
Not sure I understand sorry.
Based on what I have heard so far about the game it would seem to me that 'yes' it is a sandbox. Heck Jake Song himself said 'yes' when asked the question, he wants to create a free world where players have the opportunity to do what they want.

All you have provided are the claims only, no supportive evidence or arguments.
All the information in the article is just a heavy marketing - ambitious boasting with very vague and unclear description of game mechanics.
Some claims in the article are rather pathetic such as 'XLGames have a goal to solve all the problems in the MMORPG genre.'
Just because someone says they 'want' something does not mean they will deliver what they promised or what they deliver can be considered outside of the developer team as fulfilment of their promises.

Good point, they are just claims and to my knowledge the only supporting evidence there is, is a couple of vids on youtube which really don't show that much. But what they do show is quite nice.
I guess until more independent people start getting into the game and playing around with it we wont know much more. I am sure I am not the only one who has had there expectations raised and then dashed with the awful product that has hit the shelves.
As it is closed Beta we are not going to get much more me thinks and until we do I am going to dare keep an open mind and certain degree of hope.
It seems the like it is really trying to push the borders into next generation MMO gaming (like EvE did years ago and Guild Wars 2 are trying to do now).
This game will be another Korean grind fest, like Aion, another game he likes.
As stated by other posters before me, this is what worries me about Arche Age. Those are two really bad games imho and I loved UO at launch and into the second age. So I don't know whether they can keep enough of Lineage and Aion (the maddening korean grinder parts) out and more early UO ( the sand box part) in.

Lineage was designed to be a grind, it was a part of the game, and would not have been as good without it... there was no end game. IMO we need more grinders because they make for good PvP games.
ArcheAge being a grind is the least of my worries. My only worry is that it won't get released in west.
People are so fussy these days, it's no wonder that all the games are cloning each other.
"I'd just like to see more games that focus on the world, and giving the people in it more of a role, im tired of these constant single player games that you can walk around with millions of people."
PvP needs to happen...PvE fail in the challenge part. I absolutely love the thrills from dangers in PvP worlds. See its only after you experience the worst you can experience the best. If you're in a 2 month long vacation, A Friday won't excite you. But if you've been working your ass off, Friday night is the best feeling ever. Its a simple concept. Its only after putting in hard work you get that amazing feeling of satisfaction after completing something.
Themeparks out today fail on that part. Casuals will NOT like it and they have a million other MMOs to turn to for their carebear needs, but there needs to be some kind of punishment system..put something on the line..so the PvE/PvP and adventuring itself feels rewarding and promote natural teamwork throughout the world.

Some people think it's a indie korean MMORPG, but that isn't true. Jake Song is a huge player from Lineage and Aion, and the project already has a Chinese publishing contract worth 50-60 million making it the 2nd biggest Korean game export deal only behind Aion/NCSoft.
There was also hinting at being able to burn others houses down.
Hopefully burning someone's house down is extremely difficult, otherwise griefers will roam the landscape. In Mortal Online/Ultima Online/Darkfall, destroying someone's house is very difficult without a bit of siege equipment.
what really is the hold up? really, i don't see why is it creating a sub-forrum takes weeks? Not to advertise, but mmosite have an Arche Age page ( sub-forrum )

Yeah this is becomming stupid, if we look at only A under the Game Forums list:
2Moons
4Story
9 Dragons
A Tale in the Desert III
A3
ACE Online
Absolute Terror
Adellion
Aerrevan
And the list continues on and on, WTF is this shit? All kinds of barely known mmos are on the list, do they even exist anymore? And WHY should ArcheAge NOT have a forum, especially compared to all the rest of the crap. AA is a rising star of AAA mmo.
I guess people are just assuming that it will have a western publisher and so it should be on the site. For now we will just have to settle with this 1 thread.
Pretty certain a NA publisher will pick it up as it is one of the biggest Korean MMOs coming out. Predicting Nexon or NHN...looks really interesting though, especially combat over seas.

I don't know, I think its a must have to be honest but when a Chinese company pays $40million for the right to China alone, you just have to wonder how much they are asking for the North American and European rights?
For that kind of money you can make your own MMO and get 100% of the profits.
Originally posted by Jake Song for Massively.com From the start of this project, the US and Europe have been key target markets for ArcheAge. We want to make sure that we do everything necessary to ensure the success of ArcheAge in these markets. We do not want to prematurely invite American or European players to the beta test. At the same time, we know how important it is not to delay it too long. So maybe after we have tested it somewhat in the Korean market and the development team has taken a breath.
To understand it right:
US/Europe are the key markets, that is why the game is developed in Korean language first, beta tested in Korea first and most likely released in Korea first and if all goes well, it will be eventually translated and published in US/Europe because those are our key markets...
Originally posted by Jake Song for Massively.com Jake Song has a nice opinion about the economy system. As far as you can judge from his words, there won't be auctions in Archeage. However everything can be bought and sold - from houses to crops; from food to weapons, armors and ingredients. This makes the game pretty unique. This makes the game pretty unique. There are people, who want to get known not by their skills in PvP, or their gear, but by their wealthiness and business connections.
Indeed nice opinion
And:
Originally posted by Jake Song for Massively.com Yes, we are considering enabling users to hire NPCs as vendors in front of their houses or yards. We have plans to develop auction houses and banks.
Some more:
Originally posted by Jake Song for Massively.com Its pretty interesting how the in-game transportation works. There are different types of public and private transport. For example you can ride in a public carriage or on a horse, sail your own boat between islands. The developers don't want to implement ways of teleportation, because that will ruin the feeling of a magnificent world.
And:
Originally posted by Jake Song for Massively.com Instant travel is currently available. Users can bind any visited spot, and with a certain amount of cost, teleport to that specific spot. However, this may change depending on users' reactions.
I didn't read carefully all the links provided in the thread but it is amazing what assumptions people can construct with the kind of information pointed out above...

You're just proving my point...
it has come to this in the mmo world??? people realy thinking sims is a sandbox......rolflmao.
Man how things change.....these sims players realy have no idea what a sandbox is do they? lolz.
the old days of UO....THAT was a real sandbox.....all the rest has been a nice try.
It had roleplaying, crafting (that ment something) gathering (for crafting or regs for magery), open pvp except in the towns, exploring.
You had to eat and you had to feed your pets.
Your spells would fail sometimes (man i still miss the fissles )
But it has changed from ALL that to "sims is a sandbox"......poor youngsters, you have never played a real mmoRPG in your short lives.
Hope for you youngsters that they make one like UO again with good looking gfx so you know what a real sandbox is like.
hehe
Not sure I understand sorry.

....but to post something on topic....i think this game looks to be going the right way....i hope they can pull it off.

And UO still had all those after Trammel. It has changed since but ffa pvp was not what made UO the great game that it was.
This game looks promising.

If the game have classes or wont let the player have static abilities and let the player choose what to be, then iam not interrested in this game.
From what i understand from the links, a player cant develop their chacter, they can only switch between classes.

Were suppose to very soon. Not sure what the hold up is. I want the people making this game see there is a following in this country (US)!!
Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.

ah man now they are gonna lock this thread lol
seems like they lock every thread that requests an archeage forum.

Give me a break.
ArcheAge doesn't need its own forum...yet.
As they said, they don't even have a publisher for EU/US to start with.
Doesn't it have to have NA/EU publisher/release before it can be listed here? MMORPG.com don't cover foreign only MMOs.
