There you go foolks find me A Sith from SW movies or games that look like this... You cant... Everything in this game is made cartoony and WoW like if it werent for lighsabers every1 would think this is WOW.
Game jusst doesnt't looka nad feel like SW.
You do realize that for every "doesn't look like Starwars enough" post there exists a "looks too much like Starwars while it is supposed to be set in an entirely different period" post, right?
Kinda funny that. Even though everyone can cherry pick a screenshot and stick a fitting, gross generalization for the entire game on it, keep it up, I'd say; the Starwars forum here on mmorpg.com has more threads than all other top 7 anticipated games combined and it is still gaining. Whether its negative or positive, this game sure makes a buzz. ^_^
What I love about statements like this in regard to WOW is, no that outfit doesn't look like something WOW would have introduced, it looks like something Warhammer would have . Not that I actually feel that way as it reminds me more of the witches of dathomir (night-sisters or whatever) in SWG.
The one on the bottom right especially. Is it me or does TOR's graphics blow these out of the water? :P
For every minute you are angry , you lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson
I'll play it before reserving true judgement, but at this point after wading through the hype and the very impressive trailers, it is WoW in space for what I've deduced from the online videos.
Sorry but that was grabage. I prefer TOR and its star wars design and look over Tera Asian crappy design anyday. It is a matter of taste but i feel thatf Tera is going to be a heaven for pervs.
Screenshots really don't give an accurate impression, especially when they're resized down to 640x480. That can even make Sims3 look good, and can make WoW look incredible.
Screenshots at high resolution still show off the environment graphics to be spectacular, a hell of a lot better than the environment graphics in most MMO's.
At 1440x900 (the modest res I play everything at) you really see differences in faces, which is where TOR seems to really lack detail, making it look bland and cartoonish. Also, animation can make up for deficiences (or cause them) which is another area TOR seems strikingly sub-par to me.
Well, it's all a matter of opinion anyway. I know yours by your descriptions. I just happen to disagree: SWTOR's facial animations are a lot better and more expressive than the ones done in other MMO's. The only other MMO that I can think of that had a wide range of subtle facial animations is Aion.
I mentioned facial detail, and mentioned animation, but didn't mean to comment on facial animation, one way or another If that's where TOR shines, that's good, guess maybe it's just something I don't really notice.
When I'm talking about face detail, I'm thinking more about subtle wrinkles, scars, freckles, eye lid/shape/folds, lip shape/definition - all the little things that in combination can do a lot to make one face look different from another. Without all that, they're limited to basic sliders for feature size, and then give everyone tattoos, or something garish like that.
Since you mention Aion, I just want to say that's what I consider one of the best blendings of cartoonish style and facial details. So well done, art style aside, especially considering its low system requirements. Guess the facial animations might have been a nice touch, too.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
When I see the footage I just think it looks like WoW with a new paint job, the graphics look like they could have been done in 2003. I know why they are going the cartoony art style because it wont age as badly as a realistic look, just everyone is doing it now and it has become stale. When I first saw SWG at E3 2002 (I think) it blew me away and it looked like Star Wars! When I see SWTOR I refuse to see Star Wars and I just think of the shitty Clone Wars or World of Warcraft.
Not only the looks but the Gameplay just plays like what WoW refined and made standard over the years and everyone else has tried to copy. To be honest, I was fed up of that many years ago and become angry at all the clones since. They were talking about story driven gameplay and how you wont be grinding ten rats, yet the gameplay just shows grind kill quests over and over. Even Jeff Gerstmann on GiantBomb said that he wont be playing it because when he was given a demo at E3, it just looked and played like WoW to him and he isn't interested in that type of game anymore.
Then there are just let downs like how space is 2D and on rails. i was hoping for a Battlefront like 3D space PVP or exploration like SWG had where you can seamlessly watch other people out of your ship with other people on the board. Also the character models haven't really changed all that much and they're the ugliest part of the game. The combat looks really slow and akward, Bioware have never made a game with a good combat system, always have massive flaws. I'm afraid with WoW getting combat down so well, if Bioware don't do the same then they will not compete.
I've gotten older now since Star Wars Galaxies was released and I've been disappointed by so many games, MMOs in particular. There hasn't been a good one since WoW launched in 2004 and even that was ruined thanx to the dumbing down of an already easy game. I just wish I could get excited for SWTOR and I really want to try but the more I see, the more I realise it is just going to be like any other MMO but with more Age of Conan slapped on. For me story isn't the good part of an MMO, it just means there's less replay value and you cannot impact the world. The best part of MMOs is when the players create the story and have an impact on the world like what happens in EVE.
I hope I'm wrong, I just don't think I will be.
swtor will only look like wow if you play it on a peice of crap pc that can barely run wow to start
get swtor when it comes out and set it to ultra on a real rig, bet it blows wow out of the quadrant.
ill likely be picking tor up since they had a good showing at e3, it looks fun, i like fun, fun is fun.

Darth Krayt - Survivor of the Jedi cleansing set in motion by Palpatine and eventual ruler of the new Sith Empire a few hundred years after the movies took place.
Darth Bane - Former Sith recon / special ops sniper team leader. Put in place the "Rule of Two" about 1000 years before the movies. He was known for wearing "living armor", which in fact was a parasitic bug that caused immense pain but made the wearer nearly impervious to physical attack.

I love how most of the people who come to the forum and bash TOR are the ones who will play GW2. The best part is, even after all the interviews, live demos, and revealed content about the game, they STILL can only pick on the graphics to bash.
I love it, and it shows pure ignorance. A good game does not depend on the graphics. This is a true statement and anyone who disagrees is automatically a troll and failure. I could name countless offline games from the late 90s that had shit graphics, but were addicting as hell. If you want to talk MMOs, then I shouldn't even have to mention the top MMO on the market STILL since 2004, which has graphics that would make most of you losers cry if it was in any other game than WOW.
Alright, so you say it's a new generation and people NEED quality graphics? Ok, take lotro for example. Very nice overall graphics. The character models had a little bit to be desired, but all in all - a nice breeze toward the visuals. Lotro was a terrible game in my opinion. I played for 3 years and the DEVS basically gave up after SOA. The graphics didn't help anything when a game is so significantly unbalanced / bugged for months.
TOR does not have horrid graphics. TOR has good solid graphics which no one actually on these forums will know for sure how good they are at the present time.
My point here , in a nutshell, is talk about the content of the game other than the graphics. DOn't be a douche bag that plays RIFT or Gw2 and hates TOR then come in here and decide you can't bash anything TOR based besides the graphics.
If you still want to be that person and QQ about tor not amazing you, then by all means - QQ more.

I don't know about this, but I do know that as much as some people will come here to bash it, they will still buy it because nothing better will be out.
GW2 is 2012 while they are still saying as of E3 that SWTOR is a 2011 release.
I wouldn't worry about it much. The haters usually end up buying games they flame for months and changing their minds.

I dont think TOR will be very sucessful ( too much a copy of wow with prolly lesser combat gameplay ) .
And no i wont be playing GW2 , i never even played GW
Its not the graphics people complain about really, its the art style, they just blame it on the graphics. TERA does look nice.
Heres a good comparison video though of SWTOR graphically and with the art style. Graphically and stylistically the models for SWTOR are still improving, but they will never be remotely close to TERAs style, obviously. Also the color palettes are much different.
Actually, while I will say that SW:ToR's character art is not to my particular taste, I would never complain about it. It seems like a good choice of styles, solid, and will serve them well for what they're doing.
The only complaint I have about graphics/art style is specifically a complaint about the graphics, and it applies to Tera and GW2 as well (As helpfully illustrated on the first page by the person who has screen shots from all three games).
Floor textures are crap. :T
In all three games. Pretty much in every MMO ever, really. Ground textures are terribad.
Don't call me a troll but I doubt this game will do well.
The problem is that the story mode of SWTOR makes it look like an offline RPG, but truth is it's online presence doesn't allow Bioware to control every aspect of the story. I believe this game won't do very well! I'm sure a lot of fans will buy the game no matter what, but I bet 10$ that no-one can name me a fun thing to do in SWTOR.
You just hang around, chat with characters as you would in Dragon Age, but the story won't be affected much. If you say no to a character he will get angry and give you a quest, if you say yes it will give you a similar or the same quest.
Wow! It's World of Warcraft with lasers and being able to hide behind objects to increase defense ratio.
I know plenty of people, including myself, that are most definitely amazed by the game.
Just because you don't consider it to be amazing, does not mean everyone feels that way, and your personal definition of what makes something appear amazing could be (more than likely is) drasticly different from others.
The real question you should be asking yourself is what drives you to make a post on a public gaming forum, where you profess your dislike for a specific product that you haven't even had a chance to play yet, instead of just keeping that opinion to yourself and going on your way? What makes you think that people are interested in yet another negativity laced thread with no actual purpose other than to garner attention?

This is not true. Your answers will change your quests greatly, not just in your personal play through, but in group quests too. Your choices could change the direction you go in a mission, and give you different endings to your flashpoints with different rewards as well.
In your personal story you even have choices to flirt with questgivers or change what happens in the quest which could open up some quests for you, or close entire quest lines depending on what you do and what you say you're going to do.
Not all objectives are set in stone, and when they say they are giving you a choice of quest, they really mean it.

I have a friend who pointed out bad ground textures in games to me once, and since then I can't stop seeing them! I'm on a crusade to ruin other people's enjoyment of games as well.
More seriously, that would probably make a pretty good fanboy test. Say 'Your MMO has bad ground textures', and if they deny it, they're probably a fanboy.
Or they're playing EVE or something. :T (Stupid lack of ground textures)
(edit: Added new stuff)
I didn't quote your paragraph about the story, but one thing I've noticed about Bioware games is they're not exactly branching stories. I mean, they branch in the micro, but they are fairly linear overall, with a few possible endings.
Not that ANY computer ran game is particularly very branching, but I would say your average Bioware game is about as branching as a Japanese dating game.
If you drew a diagram, it would look like a long line with little branches that go out then mostly come back in. It's just a function of the fact that a really branching story would take WAY too much programming.
Like a Choose your own Adventure story is branching, but they can only get away with it because they're so SHORT and simple.
(second edit: This isn't actually a criticism of SW:ToR though, just a commentary on what type of storytelling RPGs like Bioware makes uses. I couldn't imagine a CRPG that actually did real branching on any real scale.)

This aassesment i actually agree totally with, in most cases all the quests lead back to one thing, either you help the good guys or you help the bad guys (or becoming good or evil) I saw this happen exactly in infamous 2. No matter what combination is all came down to...what alignment are you (good or evil) and thats your ending..2 endings.
The only thing i will say is that at least during that journey you feel like you have a least some say in how the quest plays out. Granted it's not pick from 300 options but always having 2 or 3 options to change it at least in a little ways is better then run up, click accept do as your told, get reward. Thats base skinner box, press button, spin wheel, press button, get reward.
I don't know how TSW quest plays out (again i really only follow one game closely) but from what it sounds..quest wise, at least the big 3 are trying to mix it up some. At least they are trying, better then just saying pfft, text box no choice they will like it..cause you know it's star wars..or guild wars..or it's the same guy that did the longest journey so they will like it no matter what. They are at least trying to throw something different. Even rift did with the invasions being able to take over areas.
I agree on the ground texture, in MMOs they always seem to look like crap, and i don't know why either :P
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
If graphics make the game, then why isn't Final Fantasy XIV more popular?
Or for that matter, why is Minecraft so popular?
There are so many ingredients to a good game, from gameplay to engine to compatability to story to content and more. The idea that somehow singling out any one individual piece and claiming that the game is going to fail as a result is stupid. Just this year alone, there have been plenty of games with good pieces or touted gimmicks that failed to succeed for different reasons:
1. DCOU - Great source material, intriguing gameplay, boring combat, SOE hack.
2. Brink - Neat idea with the wall running, crappy gameplay, lack of balance.
3. Homefront - Great story idea, great immersion, crappy gameplay.
There are plenty of others but the ones I mentioned were hailed as very anticipated.
At the same time, plenty of other titles are successful.
1. Portal 2
2. Shogun 2
3. Witcher 2
Shoot, Frozen Synapse is incredibly popular for a no name studio and 2d graphics.
What's the difference between the top list and the bottom? You could probably say alot of things, like art style, animation, graphics, etc....
The truth is that a successful game studio has two things that non-successful game studio's lack:
1. Incredible talent for making good games within a budget and a timeframe
2. Lots and lots of luck
There are so many things in play with game development, especially MMO development that lie beyond the mere creation of the game that much of the success of a title is left to chance. The only thing that helps is being prepared with a staff of experienced, talented people that know how to overcome obstacles as they come their way - and even then you are not guaranteed to make it out unscathed. There are plenty of failed games and former developers out there that stand as testament to that fact.
The only thing i will say is that at least during that journey you feel like you have a least some say in how the quest plays out. I love Bioware games but I have to agree that i feel like i am making choices throughout the journey, until the very end. Then it starts to be come clear that all roads lead to A. I have trouble finishing their games at the very end because of this, but they are a ton of fun before that. That is what i hope to find in Star Wars and if i can enjoy the look of the game along the way, it would be even better!

Not that much more cartoony than GW 2 if we're being honest.
The early art style I saw would have had me saying differently. But the more recent footage I've seen has turned me around on the art style. If they can refine things a bit more and make things a bit more realistic that'd make me happy, but at this point the game looks good enough thatI I'd be happy with it.
Eh, GW2 looks nothing like a cartoon. Lol. Has a completely different art style considering the entire graphic engine is pretty much based on more of a painting type of style than anything else. That's why GW2 looks like Art. NOT cartoony. Calling GW2 cartoony is just a delusional fantasy if we're being honest.
As for TOR, really wish I could get into this game. I'm not a big Star Wars fan but there are a few games that I loved. Both KOTORs and Battlefront come to mind. But this just looks the same as any other MMO I've played(which have been a lot). The problem Bioware has is that they're trying to bring the MMO genre to Star Wars. They need to bring Star Wars to the MMO genre instead.

GW2 is 2012 while they are still saying as of E3 that SWTOR is a 2011 release.
I wouldn't worry about it much. The haters usually end up buying games they flame for months and changing their minds.
"TO MICHAEL!"
I dont think TOR will be very sucessful ( too much a copy of wow with prolly lesser combat gameplay ) .
And no i wont be playing GW2 , i never even played GW
You sound like you know a lot about SWTOR, how exactly did it copy WoW "too much" ?
Actually, while I will say that SW:ToR's character art is not to my particular taste, I would never complain about it. It seems like a good choice of styles, solid, and will serve them well for what they're doing.
The only complaint I have about graphics/art style is specifically a complaint about the graphics, and it applies to Tera and GW2 as well (As helpfully illustrated on the first page by the person who has screen shots from all three games).
Floor textures are crap. :T
In all three games. Pretty much in every MMO ever, really. Ground textures are terribad.
Ludicrously oversized shoulder pads. Nuff said.
"Gypsies, tramps, and thieves, we were called by the Admin of the site . . . "

The Graphics in SWTOR look great just as the game does; What the OP likes of dislikes for me is not an Issue.
Could they be better yes maybe but in comparrison to other game of the same ilk they are great and will suit this new MMO fine when it releases.
Act your age, not your shoe size.
Touche sir.
"Because we all know the miracle patch fairy shows up the night before release and sprinkles magic dust on the server to make it allllll better." parrotpholk
If this isn't cartoony, i don't know what is.
Yet somehow you think this is.
It's obvioius! Oh wait, it isn't.

the graphics really dont bother me any im just worried about the gameplay and content thats all i care about.
