This game is WoW in space. No Swimming. No dynamic events. No open world PvP. No new ideas.
Only thing going for it is irritating quest text / voice overs that I skipped in WoW, because I just want to get to the action.
I bought this one mmo called little Mermaids online... It didn't have swimming it totally ruined the immersion. If you can't swim the game is garbage I agree.
He did forget to say No Sex....well we'll have to wait for that one.
Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands? ~Ernest Gaines
I've seen many video's of this game.. but don't see any new things in it..
Why are people so excited of this game? to me its just an tab target quest from a to b game?
I predict this game will end up the same as rift..
Lets get some facts straight,
1. WOW is tab target and has more subs than just about all the worlds other MMO's combined so there is indeed a market for tab targeting in MMO's. The fact that you dont like them is pretty much irrelevent since games without it sell less. I'll bet you feel making a game aimed at the smallest demograph is a great idea but for the rest of the world, we like to make as much money as possible. If you like NON-Tab-Target games so much, get out there and get people playing them so they make more money and developers want to make them.
2. Rift and Aion are the most successful games launched in the last three years. Look at all the others, DCUO, STO, CO, APB, HellGate and EarthRise and where they are now... F2P because they could not make enough money on a sub model. Maybe in your world having enough subbers to make money is a bad thing but to the rest of the world, money is a good thing.
Promise me you will not play TOR or post in their forums...
A completely laughable statement. Just because the industry as a whole has been a complete mess doesn't mean the bar has been proverbially lowered for these two TERRIBLE "MMOs". BOTH Rift & Aion FLUNKED hard only a couple months post-release.
No One, except the small hardcore fanbase of these two titles, will look back on them as anything more than different attempts at iterating WoW into a new form. They're FAR from "successful" or anything inspiring.
That being said, SWTOR will be no different unless they find a way to diversify end-game content. HOWEVER, one key detail needs to be pointed out about SWTOR. It's a "NICHE" product, and by "NICHE" i mean that there is a SPECIFIC audience that this game caters to, WoW-kids. The millions of SWG, UO, EQ, and DAOC fans will be left wanting for at LEAST another year for a DECENT challenging MMO to come out that requires thought & skill.
SWTOR will probably keep your interest for a month or two, and then flunk like RIFT or Aion only ending up sustaining itself with a couple thousand players like AION & RIFT. They've done a LOT of server merges so far, and it won't stop anytime soon.

Swimming does not make or break a game, why even mention it? As for voice overs, why complain about a feature that has been pushed as a "main feature" since the beginning? Why subject yourself to something you know you will not like?
It has many things going for it. Including the fact that impatient people will be weeded out.
What things beside voiceovers?
I mentioned swimming because no swimming limits your freedom, dont tell me none of all those planets have water.
And as for making or breaking a game, you forgot to read the rest of my arguments. ( No dynamic events. No open world PvP. No new ideas.)
This is just my oponion, but WoW in space is not enough to make me hooked, since im finished with that game. Next MMORPG have to bring something more.
The beta weekend is a nice opportunity to see what else the game offers.
I've seen many video's of this game.. but don't see any new things in it..

For his prediction to be 100% correct SWTOR has to release and then flop but since none of it has happened i have no idea how his prediction can be true. Or you have your own meaning of word 'prediction'?.

Maybe he means its going to be the 2nd most populated/successful MMO after WoW? Because no game will ever come close to those numbers again.
The fact is anyone who has played KOTOR or any other Bioware game should expect a Bioware MMO to be pretty much exactly what SWTOR is deliviering. TOR plays exactly like a multiplayer version of what a typical Bioware game is, and to expect them to develop something else, well that just doesn't make much sense.
Before this past weekend test (my first time testing it) I knew for certain that my expectatioins were simply to unrealistically high and it would not be able to live up to that, so I prepaired myself as best as I could to try and judge the game by some reasonable standards.
{mod edit}
But don't like it, don't play it, it doesn't really matter to me, I just know I can't wait till early access!
*if any of that was NDA breaking (don't mean it to be) then please delete*
I agree with this 100%. Well put, and its how I feel.
SWTOR will probably keep your interest for a month or two, and then flunk like RIFT or Aion only ending up sustaining itself with a couple thousand players like AION & RIFT. They've done a LOT of server merges so far, and it won't stop anytime soon.
Really, only a couple thousand players in each? And you say my comment is laughable? You do realize that Aion has over a million subs right? LOL

Couple of thousand players left in Rift and Aion? lol..hahahahah. Thanks for the laugh.
they lost 60% of there playerbase after the first month?
Nope, they didn't, even far from. Everyone saying otherwise is lying or believing sources that are lying.
It's simple: if you don't like themepark MMO's or have gotten yourself jaded and burnt out on themepark MMO features because of having played them too extensively for years to the point of MMO fatigue, then SWTOR has little to offer you. If you can still enjoy themepark MMO's like Rift, Aion, LotrO etc and have fun while MMO gaming, then SWTOR might be interesting.
Shouldn't be that hard to understand, imho.

Aion didn't flunk. It made 200+ million dollars in revenues last year and easily has over a million subs worldwide if not far more still.

waw; these forums are full of number crunchers aint they?? lolz
I have seen free UO servers that have less then 500 people (......yeah individuals not 500K subs) and these are succesfull too in their own way.....they still exist dont they?
Numbers aint everything you know......reason i left wow 2 years ago was the community.....not the numbers.
I am in beta, and without breaking the NDA, if you love story you will love this game. The game is sooo much more than the old...grab 10 pelts and bring back. If you aren't fully immersed in the story by 10th level no matter what you play, then you have no concept of what a role-playing game should be. This delivers on all levels.
I've seen many video's of this game.. but don't see any new things in it..

Well it's pretty simple really. A game doesn't need to be innovative to be appealing, and thus successful. New ideas are obviously welcome and people do bang on about them a lot, but when it comes down to it there are many factors to take into account when decided whether a game is going to be good/great or not, innovation being just one of them, and not the most important by any stretch.
Besides, SWTOR does bring innovation. No matter how you try to bend it, the questing system alone really does switch things up. Quests will have more context than ever before and the questing experience will be more immersive, story driven and rewarding. It's not just the same old generic system we are all used to, but with very high quality voice acting thrown into the mix. You get to make decisions and choices. You get to be good, neutral or bad. You will have multiple ways of completing most quests and you get to influence how other characters in the game perceive you, and thus how they react to you and interact with you. You can have a direct effect on your own story, and of the story and fate of other characters in the game, changing how things play out and changing your experience. When you look at all the features and intricacies of this new questing system, you can clearly see that it is something new. It brings a lot to the table in terms of story, immersion, and choice. More so than anything else though, at least for myself, it actually makes leveling up part of the game and not just a chore that I have to endure to get to the actual content. In SWTOR the quests ARE actual high quality content.

I dont think AIon has had 1m subs NA/EU in a very very long time.
But hell WOW always includes the chinese active accounts (aka played in last 60 days) in its sub numbers or its true 3-4m for NA/EU would be known, so lets do the same with AION.
Aion has around 4m subs. I suspect far less than 250k of those are NA/EU these days.
fully agree with OP, i have no idea what people see in this game. all this time i thought i was missing something, so i tried it and felt even more let down.
WoW in space is not enough to make me hooked, since im finished with that game. Next MMORPG have to bring something more.
Anyhow, you're missing the point i think - It has lightsabers. You seriously do not understand how cool this. The combat may be absolutely terrible, but it's still awesome because it has lightsabers. (Just to be clear: i'm not being sarcastic here, this was my actual experience - the very idea of killing stuff with a lightsaber was what made it entertaining).
The alignment system may be complete crap, but hey, at least you get to tell the NPC to stfu in-character.
(bla bla)
It has RvR lakes, a more interesting crafting system, a more entertaining questing system and... ah, what the hell, why am I even bothering. It's obvious that you're determined to dislike SWTOR because it's just a themepark MMO and not the dream Star Wars MMO according to your own personal specs that you'd wanted it to be

Then SWTOR simply isn't a game that fits your taste to be able to enjoy it. But you know what, each person's taste is different.
Some people disliked WoW and never enjoyed playing it or only for a few months. Yet many others did enjoy it and often for years. That's what differences in tastes and preferences for gaming fun means, different people enjoy different things in life.
I find it more puzzling that many people seem to be unable to grasp that simple concept, that what they like in life doesn't have to be the same as what someone else likes in life.

If you are complaining about swimming form purely aspect of immersion then i would like to ask that do you take off your armor everytime you have to swim in MMOS? because swimming effortlessly in all that armor which would sink you otherwise or make swimming just down right difficult.. is the real immersion breaker.
If the OP is wondering,i don't get excxited over any game,i wait until i see the end result and then play it and have some fun.
I never understood the fanbois attitude,i sort of saw it emerge on You Tube as people get down right nasty defending THEIR music or whatever. To me Star Wars is VERY old, done already in oh so many ways, seen all the movies including the orignal at a Drive -in.
I guess i can understand some excitement for those that truly desire a Sci-Fi based game because imo there is nothing worth playing, not even Eve.I never really liked Sci-Fi gaming or so i thought, but then i realized my fave games are Unreal Tournament and Quake,so i guess i do have a spot for sci-fi gaming. It is more a case of the pew pew i don't like.I did not like the pew pew fire in Eve nor the weak effects of a light sabre.I enjoy weapons/eefects like a UT99 Shock Combo,it looks cool, sounds cool and is a cool ability weapon.
When i watch SWTOR videos i see weak light sabres but then waht really kicks in is the pew pew laser guns.I guess if the developer put a lot more effort into the textures/sounds and effects of the weapons ,i would really get into it.I also like weapons thta have mulitple firing modes, example my fave Shock combo,it adds an extra element of fun to gaming.

I read your "arguments". Again NDA.
You are entitled to your opinion, but what exactly are you looking for in a MMORPG? You know what you don't want "WoW", so what do you want?

Anyway, that is my view.
There is open world pvp on various planets.
In Bioware we trust!
So many things wrong in your assumption, maybe you should do some research before making a fool of yourself.
No swimming, for you, being able to swim with your full plate armor help you with the immersion? Yeah right, how real!
No dynamic event, like the one in rift, that's not dynamis event, it's more of a random respawn timer than anything.
No open world PvP, go back on google and look for Ilum...You will have your answer.
No new ideas, there is plenty, just read about the game and you'll see.
