No, as I've said many times in the past, this game won't be for everyone. If you are burned out from standard themepark MMOs, you won't enjoy this game. If you are a powergamer who doesn't care about actual storylines and rushing to the end of the game, you won't enjoy this game. If you are a sandbox player or an SWG exile, chances are you won't enjoy this game.
But millions will. And comparing this game to Warhammer is about the worst comparison someone can make. I'm not even going to go into the multitude of reasons why that comparison is nonsensical, but needless to say, I laugh every time I see someone silly enough to make that comparison.
Again, my opinions, but check back with me six months after release and we should have a better idea of how those opinions are working out for me.
I think it is a pretty fair comparison to make. Both games had a ton of hype and record breaking preorders. They both have established IP's. Im pretty sure if I dig back in the war forums I cant find many predicition posts just like yours. The circumstances are very similar.
You have the advantage of knowing how things turned out for War. How it goes for TOR is anyones guess. You are hoping things will turn out better and at this point that is all it really is. Your opinions are based on nothing but what you hope will happen.

I also have the advantage of having played both WAR and TOR. I'll just say you're wrong, and leave it at that. The WAR comparison is ridiculous because you are comparing the game SOLELY on preorder hype, as if that's a bad thing. You claim to have played the TOR beta, but I have to question what you were seeing if you think these games were anything alike in terms of how they played. That just boggles my mind.
Look, you may not like the game for whatever reason. But to imply that it's going to go the way of WAR smacks of a serious agenda on your part, and is completely unrealistic. Anyone with even an ounce of objectivity, including the seething-mad TOR haters, would never be able to make a coherant argument that there is even an ounce of similarity between TOR and WAR, aside from pre-order hype.

I'm sorry, but you can't even begin to compare the IP of War hammer to Star Wars. Warhammer is known by a handful of nerds, Star Wars is worshipped by millions. The two are light-years apart
Alot of people are star wars/Kotor fans, They owe it to themselves to play this game, atleast try it out.
Other than that I'm pretty excited about the game, even if it would be a totally new IP, Its just not for everyone I guess
I'm by no means a SW / Kotor fan, fan boi, or SW lore afficionado. Yet I agree with romerok's post. I never expected to receive an invite to any of the stress / beta weekend tests. However, seeing the email from Bioware, and, after having accepted the invite & participating in last weekends stress test I will say - this game will appeal to those players who are looking for this type of game and they will enjoy it. It does have a lot going for it, but, isn't for everyone.
I was happy to purchase a pre-order digital copy. Having played other Bioware titles I knew I'd be getting my money's worth and now I know that to be the case with SW:ToR.
This game is WoW in space. No Swimming. No dynamic events. No open world PvP. No new ideas.
Only thing going for it is irritating quest text / voice overs that I skipped in WoW, because I just want to get to the action.
you havent played have you?
If you have then you will know that this game is the best out in the market right now, better then Pandas, I will say it, this is a killer game, take it as you may, fill in the blanks.
We seem to get one of these "I don't get it" threads on a weekly basis. What is so hard to understand? Not everyone cares about sandbox vs themepark, how well a game reinvents the wheel or any of the other nonsense that seems to dominate discussion around here. Many just want a fun game to play and TOR offers that in spades. Sorry if that puts a bug up some you peoples butts, but that's the way it is.
One man;s junk is another man's treasure. Some people will enjoy the game and you obviously don't believe you would enjoy it. sounds fairly obvious. However, the logic breaks down when you go from 'I don't like the game' to 'I don't like the game, so others won't like the game' Its a common incorrect logical leap, but one which most people know doesn't stand up.
The game may fail or may not. But it won't be on the basis of the OPs argumant (The little of it that there is)
I've seen many video's of this game.. but don't see any new things in it..
Why are people so excited of this game? to me its just an tab target quest from a to b game?
I predict this game will end up the same as rift..
What boggles my mind is why people bother posting on forums for games they have no interest in asking questions like this and wasting people's time.
If you aren't interested in the game, don't come to the forum, don't post about it and keep your opinions to yourself.
I agree Van.
I also feel they are just so pissed off that this game is going to hurt there current game of choice in subs & in commiunty so they feel the need to go on propaganda missions in order to try and save there current game from going F2P or suffer lack of content due to lower funding.
I hate to say this but I have grown to really hate WoW fanboys and because of them I wish and will do everything in my power to help collapse WoW sub base, and this is not because I hate Blizzard because I don't I respect them as a company but because I can't stand the WoW fanboys that think there sh!t don't stink.
P.S GW2 fangirls are not far behind, those people are spewing with ignorance because they fail to understand that it's a buy to play and will do nothing to a sub based game because 99.999999% of players will just play both.
I bother with it because theres nothing out there right now that interests me.
I'll play for a bit for the story and for the Star Wars, but i really don't think its a game that is going to hold me long term. It all seems very "familiar".
Just something to play while hoping something more to my liking comes along. Though its probably going to be a long wait
First of all, im playing as we speak Aion, Rift, EVE and Guild Wars. Yes i do have a lot of free time, and the money to pay 3 subs.
Aion, is swarming with people. And not just 1 server, each server has really really good population. And thats the EU, where the game isnt that big even. In Asia, this game is huge. Its really really f-ing huge. So to all the small little trolly haters, who say Aion is a failure, dont run your mouths if you dont have the facts.
Rift, is also swarming with people, especially after doing their 5 euros sale, and the World Event, and this huge content patch incoming. And TBH, its fun. Its not that fun, but it can take a couple of hours of your "waiting for SWTOR/GW2" boredom.
So to sum it up, both of these games are doing great.
And also, im admired by all of the people who are judging the game, without even trying it out. You are making fun of your yourselves, better stay quiet, and only after you try it, then talk.
Me on the other hand, im not hyping the game, trying to be realistic, but still, cant wait. Havent been in any beta, but liking what i know so far nontheless.

I knew there had to be a GW2 fanboy in here somewhere, lol. You can take your "dynamic" events, lol what a joke, and your pvp fest bro. GW2 will end up just like the first one did, totally devoid of life and any sense of communinty except for the try hard, trolling pvpers. You have fun with that, lol.

This.
I like it when people use logic and common sense because it's often so rarely seen and used on these forums.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
I think it might have something to do with glowsticks. Giant glowsticks that can cut off hands, cauterize the wound instantly, and make awesome "waaaa, woooosh, vrmmmmm, brtzzzzzzzzz" noises.
With all that, who even needs to bother going to a rave?
Dunno. Why do people bother to start threads stating their opinion of a game they have not played? Seriously, how a game plays it what is fun, not how videos look. Besides, people are so sick of the fantasy genre, at this point, even if it were to play exactly like WoW, people will enjoy it for the change of pace. More importantly, it is Star Wars. It has lots of lore and a huge fan base, Things Rift did no have. Many people love Star Wars. What more important reason to "bother"?

It would be awesome if they cut anything, rather than just acting as noisy clubs.

Having put quite a few hours into the game last weekend I can tell you now that you don't even really realize that you are not lobbing off limbs. The animations and the combat are so interesting that it actually almost seems like you are. I know not everyone will agree with me, but I went into the weekend expecting very little from the combat and extremely interesting in the story presentation, but the combat was so fun I found myself purposefully seeking out combat situations even though I didn't need to. The story was actually even better than I expected too, but I also know that not everyone will be interested in that. My one regret is that I was so engrossed in the story and the combat, that I totally forgot to take a look at the crafting.

To be fair there won't be any subscribers on the 20th only those that bought the box, we won't know how many subs for a month at minimum.
Because it says Bioware on the box, a company that has been making consistently awesome RPGs for the last ten years.
Maybe the game will suck, but Bioware have earned the hype.

Play it first, then post what you like, till then your just watching videos of game play and not knowing anything about the game really.
Having done so last weekend, I am glad I spent the money to pre-order. My son feels the same way. Looks like a +2 for SWTOR.

Do you really need to ask this question? Why do people bother eating McDonalds? They think it tastes good. I think it tastes like crap.
In all fairness though, the quests are always, bring me 10 pelts, touch 10 glowing objects, kill 10 snorkelbloops.
There hasn't been an original game in any genre for years. The last one I can think of was Heavy Rain. It's all just rehashed and improved.
The same thing goes for books, television, and pretty much every aspect of life. So you might want to take your blinders off.
Why would people bother with this game? Hmm....
I think it might have something to do with glowsticks. Giant glowsticks that can cut off hands, cauterize the wound instantly, and make awesome "waaaa, woooosh, vrmmmmm, brtzzzzzzzzz" noises.

I really dont see why anyone would post in a thread with such an insulting title.
