Every time I bring up the game to anyone in chat anywhere on the net but mostly in other mmos asking if people are getting there copys tomarrow all I really get are everyones dislike for the game. What the heck gives, where does this all come from. I bet the game is missing out on alot of potential customers from all this bad publicity everyone seems to be shrowded in.
Most the time people just say there waiting for 2012 and what comes with it which we all know what game that is. Also people say they dont want to play another clone, thats a big one. I Really dont get it, this mmo adds so many new and exciting things to the table, it doesnt have to be ground breaking. They dont see my way of thinking though and i havent convinced any of these people that SWTOR is a great game.
The biggest thing is why are people so hell bent on there opinion, there is no changing there minds. Usually normal people when they converse with others especially people that your having a good time with online will take someones opinion with a bit of integrity but not over TOR, there so adamant and stuborn about it not being worth there time that it makes me think there is something going on here more then meets the eye. Whats your take on the situation as the game launches?

hmmm, that's not what i was seeing no Krayt server.
Oh there were a few who didn't like the game but over all it seemed positive.

I meant chat across the internet not in game, Im picking my copy up from gamestop tomarrow so I havent goton into early access yet. In other mmos mostly ill be playing and asking others about if there getting TOR.
It's not negative publicity, it's a bunch of whiney people on forums. The game is great, the launch has been tremendously well done with very little lag, bugs or disconnectivity.
The angry people you're hearing are people that had their heads in the sand for the last several years and wanted SWTOR to be SWG 2. People that didn't follow any information about the game and expected something different from what we've been told it will be for years.
Perhaps people just don't like it? *gasp*
Well in Warhammer:Wrath of Heroes along Iv asked in chat over the weekend beta probably a few dozen times if people are getting there copys of SWTOR on the 20th, every time I say that, theres a group of people different most time that are all spouting out "clones this and and GW2 that" lol! and its just not a good game and bla bla bla...
IF found maybee 1 person in the entire weekend and over a few undread people I talked to that is geting the game or playing it. I find it funny so many people can know about a game yet have resentment towards it and hstility.
Some people didnt know at all even what SWTOR was, and there playing mmos at the same time. I dont see how you could play an mmo and not know what TOR is.
A word of note: most of the time the only people who forum hunt are usually the ones who aren't or have no intention to play such game.. It will happen for GW2, Tera, The Secret World etc..
Once a game has officially started its early access or launched, the people who enjoy the game will actually be playing the game instead of surfing the net trying to defend it..
There is negativity because it prercisely is a carbon copy of core gameplay mechanics from the WoW formula with absolutely terrible pvp.
The only thing new it adds are conversations which are actually annoying when you have to listen to someone rample on for several minutes for a minor quest.
I enjoyd KOTOR games and this plays quite similar so I bought it. I only see it as a solo experience with grouping once in a while. As a new mmorpg is is pretty fail.
Well I dont quite see how you can miss critical points about this game that make it worth a play for many people.
I had a great time playing through content in terrian in SWTOR to be blunt, theres alot of good time to be had with quests to put it simply. Why miss out on that stuff even if it isnt ground breaking, this game isnt ment to be something more then it is which we all have known since its conception.
this is pretty much why.... unless you love star wars(like me) there really is no reason to leave games like WoW or Rift if you have an established guild and such. The VO just put a blinder over a very mediocre game in every sense.. if this was not set in star wars universe and honestly if it just wasn't sc-fi i bet you it would have been lucky to get 500k pre-orders and thats being generous

No worries, that's a normal response on competitor sites. Always happens.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
I dont understand the hypothetical analysis of if this game was a different game world etc..., it makes compleatly no sence to me what so ever, you can say that about anything on this unirverse we live in. If birds didnt have wings or rabits didnt have feet, what would happen. Who cares, its not reality and has no basis for a discussion except in backwords land or upsidedown world. One of the key elements of SWTOR in my mind is the fact that it has alot of followers and attension. A game isnt much of a game without that stuff, can be the best game in the world but if people dont care about it then its not worth much.
Also I know where to chat if I want to talk to people that like the game, this was just off-topic chating.
Uhm, welcome to the internet?

I know this is shocking, but not everyone is a par tof the sheeple crowd and we critically...if not anally review mmo's because most of us got bit in the ass by WAR, Aion, or FF14 hype, so we are not so ready to jump on the band wagon.
TOR fans technically brought it on themselves also. Try bringing up TOR in Rift and you get a few colorful adjectives and find out things about your mom. Everytime in the last 8 months there was a Rift post some TOR fan jumped in and said "yeah this is just a temporary game then will be dead on TOR's launch"
Some of us are actually taking great pleasure in the TOR forum misery.
id have to say that a good majority of ppl that have interest in the game are playing it. this might explain why asking people who arent playing it results in negativity
If you are asking this question in other MMOs then that response should be expected. TOR is the new kid on the block that a lot of people will want to try out. Hardcore fans of other MMOs don't want TOR to succeed because that is potential loss of players for their game and thus a potential for their game to be closed a la SWG.
To be honest, when TOR has been out for awhile and other new games come down the pike, I will be a bit perturbed if similiar questions are being asked in chat. It's just human nature.

Yea your first part of your post makes sence.
I dont at all get your second post, that seems so weird for me to hear, I could never imagine my self geting angry about another mmo coming out and if someone asked me if I was getting it.
MMOs dont have to be warcrack, I mean you can play them off and on and still enjoy the benefits from other mmos.
This is pretty much it. Nothing new has been coming out recently and we see them all flop. Sure there are some exceptions(AoC/Dcuo/Apb) but they always managed to screw something up/cut features,bugs/lack of content and downgrade the game in some way.
These dev teams either are very blind on what their fanbase wants, or they are just using the game as a cash crop. I doubt we will see any more advancement at least in the themepark genre until a game like GW2 comes along and they make loads of money and subscribers off of it. That is unless they like other companies(Funcom) lie about what they actually include in the game.
The only reason I am considering buying this game is the fact that nothing else is out there and starting fresh in a game with loads of people is always fun.
I think this game really will be F2p after a while, unless Bioware starts to develop some unique content that actually captivates players. The WoW model of games is dead.

The first part is true. New games always attract attention, but lately they can;t hold the attention because players are wisening up. There are fanbois that don't like competition(I don't really know why) but there are also alot of vetern mmo players that don't care about an Ip that just want a good game.

You have been on the internet before right? Hardly anyone gives a toss about other peoples opinions over and above being able to shout them down.
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
Sorry you are wrong...
People see it for what it truely is and people are refusing to buy into this crap.
Really, I mean really? Maybe I'll have to read up on your responses to those who think critically about Rift? WIll I see a fair poster, willing to accept people didn't like Rift and were anal in their judgements?
Forum retatliation of this sort is just absurd to me. "They said bad things about my game, so I'm gonna strike back! Yippeee!" I hope you realize this type of mentality is one of the biggest problems with this site.

Of of the 40 or so people I know who tried SWTOR only two bought the game. Most people I know hate swtor. Some just don't like it and a few appreciate that its a good game for the type of game it is. But its not a game that appeals to most veteran EQ1/VG/UO/DAOC type players.
What might be more telling is I have never seen a highly hyped game ever lose the number spot on the ratings here as fast as SWTOR is about to lose theirs. New AAA MMOS almost always hold the top spot for many months or until the next newly released AAA mmo. Its a good game for what it is and I don't approve of the hate but its not a game for everyone. I have strong doubts about its lasting appeal. In theory it should be able to bring in a constant stream of new people to replace the people leaving. But the word is getting round about swtor and its generally not very positive.
For those of us who tried SWTOR and prefer to stay where we are, e.g. RIFT, it is natural for us to speak negatively about the game within our current game's server.
After all, at the end of the day we don't want to lose population to other MMO's.
Im not shouting any one down, I was asking people if there going to frigin order the game on release day lol but I understand your reply.
Haters gonna hate.
