Subs and Awards say otherwise, but you dont need to enjoy the game, there a few other that dont, some didnt liked WOW said it was bad because of this and that, but it was the greatest MMO ever created, i loved playing it, but now i got tired and found something better SWTOR :D.

People play the wierdest games, for diferent reasons, but quantity = quality even if 100k say it doesnt , it is the only way to evaluate a product.

Easy, SWTOR isn't a fantasy MMO. Soooo sick and tired of elves, swrods, dwarves, etc. It's really nice to be playing a quality sci-fi game.

What subs? They aren't officially 'subs' until after the first month. They are still considered "registered users" right now. So, there goes half of that already. Now let's move onto "Awards" .. WAR, Aion and Vindictus have all won Best MMO awards in different fields and you can see they are hitting top sub charts here in the US and EU ... oh wait, nope. Awards don't mean much when the sub numbers drop. Now, if you like SWTOR that's fine but SWTOR =/= quality. SWTOR = mediocre.

Soooo... They should make it just like guild wars? No thanks.

Get rid of the trinity? Big no thank you there. I always play a healer as my main in MMOs. It's my favorite playstyle. Get rid of that and I unsub.

I like my SWTOR the way it is. I I want to play GW 2 (which I may or may not dabble in) I will pick it up on launch.

What subs? hmm u have a point, lets wait and see, if u think that any of those mmo's as anything to do with SWTOR u arent really facing the reality of things, other than WOW (to bad for it, it is 7 years old but still decent) no other MMO is on the same league m8, quantity = quality in the MMO's world because it will give lots and lots of money, and with out it, it doesnt matter if the team behind the game is any good they cant do squat. True it is the true.

I doubt anyone said that SWTOR, which is being bashed for being a mediocre WoW clone, to just clone another game. That wouldn't make much sense.

GW2 sounds groundbreaking, if they do it well, but BW has no reason to change to be more like GW2.  BW needs to focus on catering to PVPers, end game raiders, casuals and soloers.

Agreed Mr Baggins er Fragins. :)

Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.

One of the co-founders of ArenaNet says a bit about copying other MMO's. This is from 2007, looks like he was right.

I personally have heard numerous designers and producers working on unreleased MMO projects describe their game in these terms: "It's like WoW, but..." I just shake my head when I hear this, because the team that is best poised to deliver a successful game that is an evolution of WoW is... well, the WoW team. They've got their thing, and they're good at it. Let's all carve out our own thing, and be the best at it. Truly great games are made by passionate teams who are on fire with the notion of changing the industry. If you are aiming at a competitor rather than aiming to make something fresh and innovative, you've lost.

Your point makes no sense. The point about bringing up the other MMOs is that they are also Award winners, so just having Awards doesn't make it good or that it will retain any subs post 3 to 6 months. It seems that you are the one not facing reality, I have plenty of evidence to back up my claims, you on the other hand are just speculating with quantity = quality nonsense that is beyond wrong.

Sector 13: read the OP. That is basically what he is saying. GW 2 is doing this thing, so TOR must do it before GW comes out or they will be crushed.

Doesn't make sense anyways, I think TOR will be fine when GW 2 comes out. We shall see, but I have no doubt that they will not be implementing any of the OP's half bake ideas.

Tor will be f2p by the time GW2 releases. Ok maybe not f2p, but no one will be talking about TOR by the time GWII releases.

We'll find out on Jan 20th. Though I wont be holding my breath.

I think 1 month will still be too early to tell. If there is going to be a huge game crushing drop off of players, I doubt it will be that early.

There will no doubt be a drop off around then, and maybe a few months later, but I believe this game will be doing just fine after the dust settles.

If I am to base SWTOR retention rate from the people I know who are playing it, they will play it till something else comes out and move onto it. They are only playing SWTOR cause there is nothing else new in the market. It was what they were doing with Rift till SWTOR came out, so I don't see it being much different.

This is plain ridiculous. For one people still talk about rift and cover it . Tor has as mnay if not more users at this point then rift did.

So i expect tor to keep most of its users, based on feedback in chat in game most players are having a blast, im sure it will lose some subs but im sure it will gain some also as time goes on.

anyone sayng free 2 play is kidding themselves and shows themselves to be uninformed. This game is gonna do very well for a while even if u dont like the game many do.

  • dubyahitedubyahite Member UncommonPosts: 2,483
Well that evidence is very anecdotal. If I were to base retention offthe people I know it will have 90% retention for a year at least. Many if my friends grabbe the six month or year subs.

This isn't really the right way to look at it. I would presume your group is a group of like minde people, just like mine. We enjoy the same games for long stretches while your friends enjoy game hopping or are waiting for something else.

Users playing before paying sub fee don't really matter other then for boasting purposes. It's all about the retention of subs to keep maitenence and production on new content. Though I agree about SWTOR going free to play but not cause it will do decent enough to keep it. It will be cause EA wont allow it, just look at WAR. It would do much better F2P but EA wont allow it.

Who wants to pay to play an MMO that everyone hates when you can have the cool new kid on the block for free? SWTOR just can't compete.

You could say the same thing about Wow Vs Guildwars, and Wow still got most players.

But I don't see the point about setting those games against eachothers, they aren't exactly made for the same players and there is plenty of room for both of them.

It is great that we actually get some choices in 2012. :)

My friends are ones that complete the content of the game. Come from top ranked guilds in every game we've played and max out gear before moving on to the next game. So, I would consider us the hardcore or elite players. Don't know what to say about yours though. If they can find a years worth of content in this game then they must be doing it quite slowly. Everyone I know has atleast 2 max level characters without having to take off work or lose sleep over it and it's only been a week.

  • dubyahitedubyahite Member UncommonPosts: 2,483
Nice backhanded insults there buddy. Not my fault you guys blew through all the content in a week.

My friends (like myself) have families, school, and jobs. Given the choice between spending all my time rushing to cap and blowing through all the content in a week and spending time with my wife and family after working, I'll choose the latter thanks.

If you all have two 50's in a week, then you're doing it wrong in my opinion. Enjoy the ride or gamehop every month? I'll enjoy the ride thanks.

I also find it hard to believe you can work full time, not lose sleep, and still get two 50's in a week. That sounds like bs to me.

Either way, my feet are firmly planted in the real world. I don't spend ever second of free time I have playing a game.

To eachtheir own I guess. Have fun with your poopsock!
