I'm pretty sure LFD tool does nothing but kill a community.
how do you figure? and how does this nonstop LFG spam help it?
You dont get it, I can think of 5 good reason why insta que dungeon finders are bad for the community, but you can only have one. this will force you to figure out the other ones on your own.
EVERY group I have put together or been a part of using LFG chat in general has assured me the people I group with are, patient, mature and have gaurenteed me an enjoyable experience in the Flashpoints. Impatient, rude or the clueless usually drop from the group before we are ready or expose themselfs in such a way that they are dismissed.
I'm sorry but that is just bull.. i rarley ever had issues with groups in Rift using the LFD.. the impatient, rude, or clueless players just come with the territory and nothing you can do about that.
Your server needs to get organized. My server has created multiple chat channels for all our needs.
I'm in The shadowlands one of the highest populated servers in the game and all you see is this nonstop all the time
Like I said, your server needs to get organized. Here follow these easy steps and make an LFD channel for your server.
thats all well and good but how are you going to get everyone into these channels you can't force people to use your custom channel. Also with so many instances and zones in this game its impossible to get most people on board with this. Only fix is either making a dedicated LFG channel which I really can't understand why there isn't one or add in a LFD tool. I feel the LFD will benefit the game a hell of a lot more. If you got your WHOLE server on board with this you must have a very very small population on your server
Maybe you should just try it and promote it. Encourage people to use it. Spam it in general. If you really want a good community, then sometimes you gotta put in some effort and not just front the load on developers. They put the ability to create custom chat channels in the game. Use it. Its not the devs fault if people cant even be bothered to type /cjoin LFD hehe
you have way to much faith in todays MMO community and I'd love to see you on my server get even I decent amount of people ot use this.. also it would require me to spam chat pretty much nonstop forever to promote this since there are so many phases and zone instancing it just isn't logically or even possibly to get most people on board with this sort of thing in any sort of time period.

It is a community building tool. If you write it off, assuming the worst about your community.. well I can't really help you there.
I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.
So many people have been defending how great it is this game has no LFD tool and how great it is to build the community and everything. Now I'm talking the game needs a SAME server LFD tool here not cross server.. anyway this is what chat has become and it's what I been saying all along and why these type of games really need a same server LFD tool. I can't even hold a useful conversation with people in general chat because of this crap is spammed non -stop
Sanosuke, you need to understand the developers had a reason for doing this. There was an official statement on how they believed tools like Looking For Dungeon harm the community. The problem with LFD is that you can enter a group, never talk to anyone, never even read their names, and easily leave and join another group if you deem it necessary. For this reason, a mindset of instant gratification and a lack of actual socialization is strongly cultivated. Let me make this clearer: If you can easily and effortlessly queue up for a dungeon and automatically be placed in a group in a relatively small amount of time, you do not value the group itself. If things get messy, you don't bother to give tips and try to overcome a challenge. It's far easier to just drop group, queue up again, and see if you get into a group with better players. The group loses value in the fact that you don't even need to talk to start playing with each other. You don't need to discuss over a damn thing because finding another group is much easier. You don't have to "deal with that noob". You can just drop party without even saying a word.
The swtor community is still in the see no evil, hear no evil phase...
Creating custom chat channels and all of this stuff is just silly. Next month when pop starts to die down, those chanells will be useless, and since their is barely any chatter besides for "lf3m hammerstation" in general, their is no point to use a custom channel over general anyway.
LFD really does nothing to "kill community" anymore than any other themepark feature. Their is simply no community in themepark games like this in the first place because there is absolutely no reason to socialize or invovle yourself outside your guild...Guilds don't have politics in these games, their's no realm objective, ect... So the whole community arguement makes no sense to me. What community? This game, wow, ect are built around guild activities and that's the onyl community you'll have in them. It doesn't even have realm forums for ppl to organize things for the realms.
Spamming for groups whether its in general or a custom chat makes no difference. Your doing the same thing just in a different channel. The difference being that general would be dead in that situation. And what seems to have gotten lost in transition with a lot of the defenders of swtor is that lfd didn't kill any communites ever, cross server lfd did. The complaints about the lfd originally where because ppl came from different servers, and you had no reason not to act like a douche to the ppl you were in a group in..it was like having increased anonymity within a video game that you had complete anonymity in the first place. If it was on the same server, it would be the exact same thing as manually inviting ppl who spammed general.
But like I said, see no evil, hear no evil. It's just everyone else that doesn't understand.

I really never and I'm talking from years of MMO experience found my QUALITY of group in PUGs any differn't than when using some sort of LFD tool or spamming chat like an ass for an hour. Of course generally I ideally just group with my guildmates since most are RL friends and it makes things a hell of a lot easier and more fun but honestly you guys are really kidding yourself if you feel the quality of your PUG is somehow magically better because you sat there and spammed chat for 30 min putting a group together.
Zonoez!! People are using general chat to look for groups....just like the Devs intended?!?!?!
The sky....she falls!!!!
Nothing says community like LFG spam. LFG was made for a reason. TOR does not qualify as needing it yet. A MUCHHHH better auto group single server tool is needed.
You guys do realize x-server LFG tools are made to help low pop servers? TOR is not there yet.
The swtor community is still in the see no evil, hear no evil phase...

I still don't get what people can't grasp the point its not the LFD that ruins these communities like you said its the cross server ones.. these games are becoming more and more solo friendly over the years making it less and less necessary to group in the first place.. SWTOR went to the extreme adding a huge mostly solo single player story line and to top it off pet class mechanics for every single person.
I really don't see anything wrong with that screenshot. I'd rather see people LFGs then the horseshit fighting and meaning conversations I typically see in general chat. I do agree though, I don't think a same server LFG channel would hurt anything. You wouldn't have to use it if you didnt want to...
The reason they didnt do a lfd is when u have a lfd tool peole stand around places like fleet and dont venture out and explore the worlds.
They made these nice new worlds like alderaan and tatooine and they want players out and about exploring and playing the game not sitting at fleet waiting for a lfd to pop
The one thing the lfg tool did in wow is made it so players hang around org or sw just waiting for lfd even wow devs have stated this is something they want to get away from
The trouble is once u have a lfd tool thats how players will always be.
I really never and I'm talking from years of MMO experience found my QUALITY of group in PUGs any differn't than when using some sort of LFD tool or spamming chat like an ass for an hour. It's just basic human psychology. "If I can get into a group super easy, I do not value my group as much as say if I had to put an effort to actually find people to play with. If they present problems, I don't bother to rectify them or give them any advise. I can simply leave group, queue up again, and easily be placed in a different one."
Without an LFD tool, it obviously does not mean the average PUG will contain better, more skilled players. It just means the average PUG will contain players that have more respect and value for their group because they had to put an effort in order to establish the group in the first place. This added respect and value leads to a healthier, more sociable, and more helpful community of players. The community becomes more accepting of new players and a notion of working hard with each other to achieve success is cultivated.

so now players hang out and spam LFG nonstop... yea that makes things a WHOLE lot better. Actually with LFD it allows people to go explore and enjoy the game while they are que'd for a group so you DON'T sit there like a jackass not enjoying the game and spamming LFG

sorry but that whole thought process not only does not apply to 15 years experience with these games and honestly just isn't true at all. A game has to be developed to encourage grouping. Sure they have heroics they have flashpoints but are they required at all? no of course not. When a major portion of an online games content requires no grouping at all this is what degrades a community. It has nothing to do with how you find a damn group. It's the game itself and how it presents itself. It's been a long while since I actually played a MMO that required grouping for a good majority of the games content. Think maybe FFXI but the mixed country servers screwed that up a lot and the in game translator wasn't the best which made communicating difficult.

You may not believe it to be true, but it is. Like everything in life, we give more value to the things that require an effort to aquire.

Regardless they will still be there, do u really think that the bads or w/e people wont be doing instances because of the LFG not being there? It wont help the community its just that BW is trying to be different because the rest of the game is bacially WOW. Global chat is usualy where the server players kinda meet eachother and stuff which can strengthen the community in that said server. Now how the F do u expect them to do that when all u see is LFG, the game is full of instances so most of the times ur in 1, u wont be seeing anything in chat as long as LFG is not implemented.

you seem to have a funny way of only responding to the irrelevant parts of my responses but either way like i said it has nothing to do with how you find a group that effects and shapes a community its how the game itself is presented and how important or needed grouping really is in the game. Until you get to hard mode flashpoints most I have played don't even require much communication if any at all between players this is a problem with the design of these games which have become easier and easier and more solo friendly over the years and require less and less reason to communicate and play with others

not all zones though..universe is a big place Thats why you go to your fleet
If you want to be able to farm mats and just teleport to dungeons there are plenty of mmos that do this and honestly imo it doesnt help a community come together. You can do it with warzones which is silly enough but thats just me i guess. Ive played these types of games for a long time so chatting in various channels to get things done is part of the enjoyment for me.

even if we get everyone to move to LFG channel you are still in the same issue people are just going to sit there and spam LFG it builds nothing for the community and is just waisting peoples time.. I don't want to repeat myself again but my feelings on why communities in these games have been failing is because of the reasons I posted in previous few posts and is nothing to do with how you put together a group

but I guess I can understand why some people dislike it
You may not believe it to be true, but it is.

Mine too
pretty amazing you guys must have so few players theres no phasing at all in your server
Chat channels span across all phases.
not all zones though..universe is a big place
Thats why you go to your fleet
If you want to be able to farm mats and just teleport to dungeons there are plenty of mmos that do this and honestly imo it doesnt help a community come together. You can do it with warzones which is silly enough but thats just me i guess. Ive played these types of games for a long time so chatting in various channels to get things done is part of the enjoyment for me.
I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.
even if we get everyone to move to LFG channel you are still in the same issue people are just going to sit there and spam LFG it builds nothing for the community and is just waisting peoples time.. I don't want to repeat myself again but my feelings on why communities in these games have been failing is because of the reasons I posted in previous few posts and is nothing to do with how you put together a group
