This shows how ridiciously biased you are. Even all the paid reviews which are praising this game to the skies admits that it uses a low tech engine. And AoC is known, my unbiased people of having the highest tech MMORPG engine, same with Aion. It uses the critically awarded CRYTEK engine for crying out loud.
And you are saying that this unknown, barely used Hero Engine is on par with the Crytek Engine?! This just proves how it is completely impossible to keep any kind of sensible discussion with you fans. It is like you are living in another virtual reality or something.
I don't care how technically savvy or highly awarded the engine is.
I still think both AoC and Aion look like crap. Combination of color palettes, style, asethetics, etc.
TOR looks like Star Wars and it looks like KOTOR, both of which things I truly enjoy.
I also think LOTRO looks like crap because the avatars/characters look so out of place compared to the beautiful world, I think EQ2 is so ugly it makes me want to vomit, and I think of all of them Rift might have the best graphics, but the armor models aren't diverse enough.
I'm not the guy who drools over tech specs.
I'm the guy who hates 120hz TV's because it makes everything look so unnatural. So smooth it looks off.
I also like film grain, lens flare, and old school plastic models and dudes in rubber suits in my Sci Fi (original SW trilogy) versus flashy CGI that always looks fake no matter how "good" the CGI is.
I can appreciate and respect who you are and what you like.
I however feel differently, and so do many others. That does not make us wrong or a "Retard". Bioware simply Marketed to us and Catered to you.
I'm not afraid to tell trolls what they [need] to hear, even if that means for me to have an forced absence afterwards.
P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)
Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.
I think people are (rightly) pissed off at BWEA. I mean EA has done these shady tactics repeatedly throughout their history and BioWare has shown that they too don't respect their community as much as one woudl hope (Dragon Age Bazaar debacle from a few years ago; DA2 bannings, etc).
Personally, I don't think the reaction is extreme although to a casual bystander who isn't familiar with the game industry, it may seem excessive.
I'll be telling my friends to be wary of EA if they aren't already.
"Never argue with a fool; onlookers may not be able to tell the difference."
I think it's pretty clear from even the responses so far that the currently players don't really have an issue. It's the haters who have talked smack on the game for their entire post history that are having issues with this non-issue.
Really dudes....you are up in arms over some textures?
HEY GUYS, IS THE GAME FUN? YES/NO? Jeez, it's that simple. It's a game, if you have fun, then so be it. If you didn't like it, move the fuck on. If something like this is impacting the fun you are having in a game, you need to rethink some things. Backlash? The majority of people don't give two shits about this stuff. Only the minority of people ever bother with ranting and raving on internet forums.

How many reviews were based on the beta client? Here are some of the comments:
Gey Online: SWTOR looks decent.
AusGamer: The environments are where The Old Republic really shines: some of the worlds you visit are simply mind-blowing in scope and design, and even the interiors of things like Sith temples just look incredible.
PCGamer: I like the game’s graphics style
DarkStation: Everything in the game, from character models to the environments are incredibly slick and polished. Characters, whether they be NPCs, companions or yourself, are very detailed, despite their cartoonish appearance.
IGN: some of the most breathtaking visual moments in The Old Republic, and in fact in any MMO yet.
Darkzero: The final point I’m going to mention is how beautiful the game looks. .... the brilliantly rendered landscape, this game is gorgeous. Granted, it nearly blew up my Asus N53 when I set it to the highest graphics, but it was worth it. The game really is breathtaking, and it has graphics that I can see staying relevant for the next five years
Strategy Informer: Visually The Old Republic isn't too far off from Knights of the Old Republic which is a plus frankly because it didn't fall into the trap of trying to be as realistic as possible, only to look stupid. Instead we get a vibrant atmosphere with characters and locations crackling with sci-fi effects and designs
Meristation: However, as can be seen in the screenshotsat it looks pretty good and live looks even better
Game Ractor: everything feels so fresh. The graphics are wonderfully comic-book like
Vandal: issues discussed but under graphics: "each planet visually striking, a delight. Character design is also very accomplished
CheatCodeCentral: every pixel on every screen seems tweaked to perfection
TenTonHammer: looks and plays exceptionally well considering the amount of detail found in most areas of the game. looks and plays exceptionally well considering the amount of detail found in most areas of the game. each of SWTOR’s distinct planets are some of the most graphically appealing I’ve come across
A.V. Club: Its stunning graphics....look great most of the time,
GameSpotUK: The visuals join the audio to make for a striking presentation
DigitalSpy: Visually, Star Wars: The Old Republic is a powerhouse. It boasts the kind of production values that George Lucas himself would be proud of
GameSpy: I spent several minutes gawking at the swarms of space-age yuppies commuting back and forth in the background of the Republic's capital planet of Coruscant, and holding off on my class quest to admire a panorama of slate-gray mountains surrounding an ancient lightsaber forge on Tython
TheGuardian: The graphics are occasionally stunning – with long draw distances rendering outdoor and space locations particularly effective

No because smart people realize that they were not just tookin out of CB but they have used it for PRing which leads to misleading people, open your eyes and come to terms or keep em closed and be used.
Like I swear I thought they would eventually put high res in but instead they are hoping the community has people with mentalities like yours.

This game was advertised by it's graphics, they were stunning and awesome. And people that claim graphics don't matter, why do they advertise a game by that then?

not supposivly.. blantently and this is not the first thing taken from beta people enjoyed in the game and was taken away.. not to mention we were told in beta high-res had a bug but would come back. If you weren't around for the match to chest debackle ill enlighten you. In beta there was an option in the UI mutch like hide head gear called match to chest. What this did was match the color of your chest piece to the rest of your gear allowing a uniform color pallete instead of the mismatch stuff you see now. This issue is especially problematic for troppers if you haven't seen them running around in the rainbow outfits. Anyway this was a great feature and well loved by almost everyone in beta then it was suddenly removed. What was the official explanation? basically the developers found there was not enough variety in gear that the only thing that sets a majority of the gear apart was the color. Now they beleived this takes away from the feeling of acomplishment of getting new gear.
Not joking in the least that was there explanation on a completely OPTIONAL feature in the game that you did not even have to use and got universla praise during beta in the feedback forums. Yet was taken cause the art department couldn't figure out how to make enough variety in boots.
This sort of stuff starts to build up there is no reason to take even more CHOICES away from people. All this stuff is selectable and you don't even have to use it if you don't want to like high-res textures. If your system can't handle them don't use them. But to not have them put in is just a slap in the face ot the people playing this game. Just like taking away match to chest was.

really? cause my game looks like a jagged mess from a straight install.. only got it looking like this by forcing super sampling AA and sparse grid transperancy AA through nvidia inspector. If I just used ingame setting it likes a TON worse.
I only use the in-game defaults as well. I've turned everything on and maxed it all out.
I don't mess with the video card settings or anything. I'm not tech-savvy enough to go into any of those settings and trust that I won't screw something else up. Besides, I just bought this computer in December. I don't see a reason to screw with the settings.
Am I the only one that thinks this is a reasonable response by EA/Bioware? It is very clear to me what the situation is after reading that, and I personally feel better about the situation now.
Expect to be called a mindless drone that's been blinded by fandom for that.
If you don't follow the party line and you don't have your hair on fire over everything right now, you're just deluded, apparently.
hey fundayz you forgot no click-to-move. At least the option would have been nice, even if it wasn't default. And why can't I change the size of my friggin' text?
No high res textures? After you said it was a bug and being fixed? How can anyone pretend that Bioware knows what they are doing now?
1. No forum search function.
2. No UI customizability.
3. No viable way to consistently play varied builds (No dual spec and uncapped respec costs).
4. No queueing for specific Warzones.
5. No server forums.
6. Phasing still remains throughout the game, while it was said that it was only for the beginning zones and only for a short time after release.
7. No proper LFG feature. Not even a global LFG channel.
8. Many people still have performance issues even with the lowered graphics, especially in 8v8 PvP. 8v8.
9. Unfinished CE shop.
10. No world atmosphere.
11. Tiny draw distance for ground effects.
12. No race variety.
13. No macro or addon support.
14. Ability delay.
15. Simultaneous US and EU maintenance. As if they can't afford two maintenance crews like pretty much every decent MMO on the market right now.
Seriously? Sure, individually these are not gamebreaking but combined they really make you wonder what the budget was spent on.
There seem to be those that believe it is financially possible and physically possible to add every feature from every previous mmo before launch in a polished state in less development time than all previous mmos, although it took some of those games literally over a decade to create and implement these said features.
Gone seem to be the days when an mmo was to 'grow' after its initial release, now we demand a 'complete' ever growing game which already has everything we ever wanted, but magically can still add more of what we want. In short, we are demanding a 'feature', which is unobtainable.
The game is not a month old, could you folks let them spend some time with their families before crying foul and their slow pace of adding features.
If you compare this game's features at release with every other mmo's release features, it may not be at the top of the list, but it is a long way from the bottom. As mmo's go, this game is proving that there is a continuing trend that we as customers are receiving more at release than previously. They made decisions that resulted in a fluid polished, playable game - if they put the lfd tool on the back burner to make that happen, I am happy.
I slogged through EQ with hand drawn maps created while I played - I can certainly be patient for an lfd tool.
All I have to say to the OP is that if you bought the game just for its graphics then you could have saved yourself some money and bought the star wars movies on blue ray. I purchased the game for its story and gameplay, and I am happy.
Cheers!

true games will grow but rift had almost all those features at launch.. I'd rather them of had most of those at launch and not have to work on them now and concetrate on getting more content out.

You nailed it, one more year would have been best? But for them to find more faults they would either need a longer period for testing, then a longer redo than they did. The beta faults beyond stability or buggs are all these companys are interested in. Playability seems to be the last thing any of these companies are thinking about.

These are the guys :
This is the game they are playing:
I saw the video posted earlier of the high res client and the in game actually to me looked BETTER than the cutscenes.
16. Website is constantly crashing
17. No longer can you search previous topics and posts of users on the forums.
18. No longer a "suggstion" board on the forum.
19. Non existent guild functionality.
20. Auction house / GTN that is terrible.
21. Absolutely HORRID customer support.
hey fundayz you forgot no click-to-move. At least the option would have been nice, even if it wasn't default. And why can't I change the size of my friggin' text?
Cheers!
MMO Vet since AOL Neverwinter Nights circa 1992. My MMO beat up your MMO. =S
true games will grow but rift had almost all those features at launch..
