also the class system does not follow the holy trinity if you think that you have not played the game. as certain dps classes can also have rudimentary healing and tanking abilities to create multi type class that in occasion can be used if your careful.
otherwise every game is just a glorified pac man, you run around trying get points and not be killed. points in this case is gear.
Looks like WoW. Doesn't look like WoW. You see these statements all day long. Who cares? It's like says I'm not going to bye a Ford because I've already driven a Chevy and it also has four wheels, doors, etc.
The point is with 300m+ invested, they should have been able to have every feature known to man and improve them all, but instead, they made an everyday mmo with less features and content than a lot of F2P (freemium) mmo.
VO (some are good but the entire game = Lame)
Someone please explain what makes this game so great? I'm temped to state that UO is far better, even with it 1980s, 2D graphics.....Come to think of it....I think minecraft is better, and it's entire budget was $14.99...lol
Just because 1 game has certain features does not mean every other game has to follow suit with same said features. Your own personal wish lists has no place in a discussion here or anywhere else.
So you have come accustomed to flying mounts from WoW. Just because you like that particular feature doesn't mean every game should have it.
When are people gonna stop hating on the game. You know it was you guys that bigged it up so much. BW never claimed SWTOR to be somethign it isnt. Show me threads and articles about promises they broke. Tell me about all the features the game said it would have but never made it and I'll shut my mouth...but please..for the love of god stop this nonsense.
If SWTOR isn the game for you then great, go play something you do enjoy. Stop hating on this game. I enjoy it so I'll defend it. Unless it gets turned over like SWG did
Now about innovation may I lecture you about some of the things that are missing in TOR:
Swimming
Third party addons
Minigames like card games or slot gamers
Dual spec
Day/night cycles
Non humanoid based playable races
Planetary housing
Housing furnishing
Animal based pet classes
Resources for crafting that do have quality
Complex crafting system
Guild leveling system
Animal mounts
Flying mounts
PvP Arenas
Collision detection between characters
Macros
Barber / Image Designer
Appearance tabs
Fishing
Guild "Tabard"
Multiplayer mounts
Gear Dyes
Shared storage bank slots
In game voice chat
LFG tool
Guild bank
Incentives for socialization
Character extended body customization
3 Factions RvR
Wolrd PvP
RPG tools
Underwater content
3d exploration
Really? Every one of these threads i read sound like people just want world of warcraft...
The highlighted red text in my opionion either has
1. No place in a starwars universe
2. Sounds like it should be there just because wow has it.
Fully Support the Implementation of the green text,
collision detection (with mobs and enemy players but not friendly players) would have been good, adds a whole extra dimension to PVP, can be used to make creative and fun boss encounters in PVE also, where you don't use the standard - build threat / tank & spank mechanic
wow doesn't have collision detection
I would have put macros in red too my self - I find no addons or macros a GOOD thing over wowrift
I agree with LFG if your on about not having an automatic grouping tool like in wow (and even more so if horrible X server). Some sort of LFG interface where you just flag your self as looking for different quests / dungeons and other players can see that you are looking and then chat to you - I think would be good. e.g. you tick a box saying "i want to group", there is a button called "find group" on the menu - clicking it lists everyone in the area that has checked "i want to group" and what quests they have, you find people on same level of progress as yourself, then use whispers to form group.
guild leveling - does wow have that now? I quite like guild leveling in other games.
OK. We've cleaned up the GW2 discussion in here. Please stay on topic from here on out, folks. Discuss the points raised in the OP's post and how it pertains to Star Wars: The Old Republic. This is not a thread for discussing the ins and outs of Guild Wars 2. Thanks!
1) Swimming - not a virtual world, so not really necessary. 2) Third Party Addons - No. Keep them out. 3) Mini games like card games or slots - so long as you can't actually gamble with anything, this would be fine, but pretty low on the list of things the game needs. 4) Dual spec - will be in there. 5) Day/Night cycles - not a virtual world so again, not really necessary. 6) Non humanoid based playable races - Not necessary. I'd be happy with Jawas or something being playable though. 7) Planetary housing - not a sandbox or virtual world, plus you already have your ship. 8) Housing furnishing - I would like this. Not a high priority, but still, it would be nice. 9) Animal based pet classes - you already have multi-functional companion classes...what do you need an actual pet class for? 10) Resources for crafting that have quality - Not a sandbox game...but I would like to see more emphasis on crafting, especially at low levels. 11) Complex crafting system - see #10. 12) Guild leveling system - I think a lot of people would like this - it's becoming a standard feature. 13) Animal mounts - They would only be good on one planet at a time. Perhaps you could rent them from a local mount rental shack or something while you're on the planet. 14) Flying mounts - Totally unnecessary. 15) PvP Arenas - No. We don't need e-sports in this game. 16) Collision detection between characters - No. Won't work and will cause more issues than it solves. 17) Macros - Very simple targeting macros, or even click casting macros would be fine. Anything more complex? No. 18) Barber / Image Designer - I could see people liking this. 19) Appearance tabs - Not really all that necessary. Just modify the 'orange' gear to allow for appearance changes. 20) Fishing - Is lame. If you can find one instance of something fishing in Star Wars movies, books or comics, I'd allow it. It would still be lame though because developers cannot implement fishing as a mini-game that's fun. 21) Guild "Tabard" - But not a tabard. Something else. 22) Multiplayer mounts - Meh. 23) Gear Dyes - Yes. 24) Shared storage bank slots - Maybe. 25) In game voice chat - Meh. Low priority item. 26) LFG tool - Will be in there eventually, regardless of anyone's opinion on it. 27) Guild bank - Seems like a standard feature that will be there. 28) Incentives for socialization - If you can describe something here that isn't forced grouping, then more power to ya. 29) Character extended body customization - ? What is this? 30) 3 Factions RvR - Too much of a change for the game. I would have liked a third, neutral faction for Smugglers and Bounty Hunters myself, where you could do either Republic or the Empire. 31) Wolrd PvP - This exists, it's just not gank a random lowbie friendly. 32) RPG tools - You need to describe the 'tools' more. 33) Underwater content - Meh. Low priority item, if a priority at all. 34) 3d exploration - ? Space exploration would be an entirely different game. Just not necessary for the game. This isn't a sandbox or a virtual world game.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
so far only this issue arised and i am level 34 ,if i die when i am being healed the graphic of healing but and i glow green
had other issue but it was at my end never noticed it before cause the game i played werent really demanding enough
fixed it play smooth dont get me wrong with a 128 bit gpu it plays but at lower setting you need a 256 bit card to play this game
aside from this i dont have issue, for lf player i use (/who)hover over the blue party thingy it say what the player search for etc!
as for world pve, pvp, raid its all there (most of the time in bonus area)
go to tatooine you can cross the map and fight the other faction on the south or the north of the map depending on your faction
want to invade their camp you can want to kill pvp while doing heroic you can you want to raid and pvp at same time you can
i dont know about all cause lot of stuff i dont do but it is me its probably in the game i havent checked the game is soo big its insane lol.i dont mind critic of game but they have to be as accurate as possible and when i saw there was no world pvp i am like why am i reading this thread he idnt play it i see world pvp all the time.
i will give you this tho, they could had even in raid pvp ,pve, heroic world zone.but aside from this everything we had in wow in in swtor
Looking at that list again, I'd love for someone to explain where there is a natural third faction in Star Wars for there to even justify three faction RvR.
This isn't Dark Age of Camelot. It's Star Wars. It's been the Empire vs. the Republic since 1977. Where is the third faction?

There are other factions such as a neutral crime faction, large groups like the Black Sun, Mando's.. etc.. The problem is none of them would fit in with how they've implemented the mirror class system. Three factions would require a completely different philosophy in this area.

You can't do it all as you seemed to allude to but I think poeple expected more "std mmo features" than they got. At some point I am sure TOR will have all of that or most.
"Standard MMO features" which rarely, if ever, were in a game from the start. That's the point.
Yeah, it was a five year development cycle, but even then, there are things that have to be cut for time, or maybe they couldn't get them to work properly, or maybe they chose to focus on getting the game itself up and running, or they just don't fit Star Wars at all.
Developing a game takes a lot more work than some people might realize. The devs aren't miracle workers. They're still human. You can only plan for so much and have so much in when a game goes live. The rest either gets pushed to expansions and/or free content updates, or it gets cut entirely.

The point is, can you realistically look at the popular image of Star Wars and see that third faction?
No. You can't. It has always been Empire vs. Republic and Jedi vs. Sith from the start. That's not going to change because some people want a Star Wars version of DAoC with three faction RvR.

I liked that he invoked the fanboi argument of, "Well there's haters out there who want to see us fail no matter what!"
Attention: James Ohlen, no there aren't. There are people who simply want a fun, great* game.
*and for some of us, that fun, great game happens to stipulate that the game cannot be a derivative of a derivative.
Sad really at how deluded this man (and by extension BW/EA) is as a company. Then again, after the recent mini fiascos BW has been involved in, I should have seen this playing out this way.

Wrong. You definitely can.
The Empire, the Republic and a Mercenary "wildcard" faction. In fact it's unrealistic and senseless for a GALAXY to have only 2 major factions.
As for lore, as I stated, it only supports my arguments. Your reasoning makes no sense whatsoever -- besides, this is ~3000 years in the past; of course things are going to be different and in-game events don't have to correspond perfectly with the canon stuff because remember: victors write histories.

The Hutts?
Yes. Because it is a popular image for people to go work for Jabba the Hutt. Really.
The conflict between the Empire and Republic, and the Jedi and Sith is what the average person thinks of when they think of Star Wars. They don't give a damn about the Hutts. You might as well ask them to join the Tusken Raiders. Bioware aimed squarely at the KOTOR crowd and at the larger Star Wars fanbase. That means two factions, like it or not.

Ha, they aren't going to fix any of this in a timely manner.
Reason?
They are working on the next crap title you will blindly go out and purchase by the millions.
Enjoy!
edit - It's about making money not quality games for this crew -> EA. The are laughing their ass off all the way to the bank.

yeah mass effect 3 sucks and in effect all th emass effects dragon age NWN, BG series they all were just horrid horrid games.

Maybe you think you know what's fun for me better than me. But no the reality is I know what's fun for me an no what's fun for others.
I been waiting for people to realice how much fun RPG are... but now people still enjoy fps more.
Yawn

I obviously wasn't talking about you... just like you're not talking about me when you mention people liking fps games more... since I don't.
There's a LARGE group of people who are fed up with the bland gameplay of all these mainstream MMORPGs.
If I wanted to play a proper deep Roleplaying game I would... SWTOR isn't one.
..Cake..

I'm only going to pick on Coillision Detection.
It. Just. Doesn't. Work!
Why ANYONE would actually want this in a game - I don't know
1) Swimming - not a virtual world, so not really necessary.
2) Third Party Addons - No. Keep them out.
3) Mini games like card games or slots - so long as you can't actually gamble with anything, this would be fine, but pretty low on the list of things the game needs.
