Because the game runs like complete garbage, even with so few in game, imaging if they let the masses in. Almost every video i have seen so far includes: Lag, a complete freeze up of the game of up to 2 seconds, Characters gliding across the ground or skippy framerates. The WvWvW videos appear to have 50 people around and the player can hardly walk because of the lag. Anet prolly should have kept the NDA on this crap, terrible first impressions from actual gameplay. ( I dont consider any videos from Anet actual gameplay.)
Also, not that i care because i dont PVE anymore, but the collision is prolly one of the worse i have ever seen. Sure its cool that the mobs charge you in a group and are not just standing around. But when pretty much every mob is inside of eachother galloping along, that coolness all of a sudden starts to fade.
Thats my 2 cents after watching beta videos all morning, I have no doubt that the lag issues will be mostly cleared up by release however the WvWvW lagging like that with 1/10 of the people its supposed to have has me very worried as this is my only reason for looking forward to this game (or any game in general.)

Beta...'nuff said. You're reaciting like this is the final product being pushed out the door. Let's all take a deep breath and let Anet do what needs to be done to release a polished product. No need to jump to conclusions or assume the worst from watching videos in a Beta that's closed and available to only a select number of people. I'm certain the final product will be much better.
I watched a lot of beta videos and i dont notice any lag, maybe its your internet?

Network stress testing and optimization are usually things done by the end of production cycle, not at start. No studio really has acess to that many testers, with varied internet connection speeds/qualities, varied PC specs to really do it before They have every other system in game and working.
GW2 isin't going to be out in amonth or two. I don't expect it before Q3 of this year really so They have plenty of time to first polish the general gameplay and when They start inviting people for testing work on the networking code full time.
Shroom take my word it is not even worth your time. Just do what I am about to do and give up on this site until after GW2 releases. It is becoming obvious where this hype is heading and it is TOR all over again.
GW2 fans are already making the cardinal mistake of labeling their game as perfect in every area with zero flaws. The closed beta reviews are flat out jokes and done by long term fans of the game. Every review I have seen has been done by some 6 year player of Guild Wars with a financial incentive to make nice with ArenaNET.
All it will do is build blind hype and attract people to the game who should not be playing.
I've seen just a few videos but I didn't see anything wrong, or at least what you are describing.
You say this, yet a few months ago during SWTOR beta the exact same thing was going on, and we all thaught ohhh dont worry they will fix it before release. NOT, even a company with atleast 2x the budget of Anet couldnt get it right, so yea im a little worried.

the only review that complained about gw2 performence issue was kotaku, and its hard to please them without being paid off. all the vids i watched we fine, sure your not capped buddy?

@ OP, you go code a mmorpg. Check out this vid, pretty good amount of fighting and fail to see lag. The only problem with this genre is douchebags like you who are ruining it by flaming everything you can. Sorry I rarely post just morons like this make me rage. Here is a good video for pvp.

I don't know if I will make any judgment call on a game from one video.
That would be my 2 cents.
Most of the lag i've seen in the vids, also had the recorder's voice lagged aswell, wich means it wasn't always the game's fault, but was a flaw somewhere during the recording or processing of the vid.
Although this wasn't always the case
Deja Vu. Is there a word for when Deja Vu happens in the same scenario several times over? Perhaps 'Deja Vu Ad Nauseam'?
It's possible that Anet had the clients set to gather lots of data or are even running the game in a debug mode which would be a huge performance hit. I'm sure they'll do some heavy optimizations with the information they've gathered from the press beta too.
Press are also running FRAPs or other video capture software that will bog down performance considerably.
Ah I have only seen one video where it slowed down noticeably and you could tell it wasn't just fraps. It had like 30 people bombing AOE's non stop. If this is your only concern or attempt to slam the game then you are probably working with almost nothing.
At least target the crafting system. It seems like the only source for haters and trolls right now. Maybe they could make up stuff that they assume will be in the cash shop. Not a lot to work with here.
No no. He didn't say one vidoe. In his first post he said hes been watching videos all morning, yet he has only provided one video to support his complaint on starting the thread to tell everyone how blind we are and even that video didn't show much on his long list of reasons the game is garbage.
Lets give shroom the benefit of the doubt and say that all the videos he has seen has supported his complaints, it's still closed beta and it's to be expected. I am not sure why he would be waatching videos all morning on a game he does not like tbh. I think he should take up Purms recommendation and stay away from the site untill after GW2 releases. The that'll be two haters I won't have to read about
