When a game is as good as this one is already panning out to be, well thought out, well designed, and more importantly, dedicated designers who love to play games and made the one they wanted to play. It leaves the cynics standing there shooting blanks. And we all know, if you shoot blanks, Darwin's theory then kicks in.
I've watched a few videos now and i'm just not seeing the sky falling like some are proposing. Looks pretty fast and smooth to me. Sure there are going to be some people's systems which are poorly configured, low specs running fraps and your going to see choppy graphics. The majority looks pretty fluid to me, so i'm calling BS on the chicken littles.
Because the game runs like complete garbage, even with so few in game, imaging if they let the masses in. Almost every video i have seen so far includes: Lag, a complete freeze up of the game of up to 2 seconds, Characters gliding across the ground or skippy framerates. The WvWvW videos appear to have 50 people around and the player can hardly walk because of the lag. Anet prolly should have kept the NDA on this crap, terrible first impressions from actual gameplay. ( I dont consider any videos from Anet actual gameplay.)
Also, not that i care because i dont PVE anymore, but the collision is prolly one of the worse i have ever seen. Sure its cool that the mobs charge you in a group and are not just standing around. But when pretty much every mob is inside of eachother galloping along, that coolness all of a sudden starts to fade.
Thats my 2 cents after watching beta videos all morning, I have no doubt that the lag issues will be mostly cleared up by release however the WvWvW lagging like that with 1/10 of the people its supposed to have has me very worried as this is my only reason for looking forward to this game (or any game in general.)
Taugrim has posted examples of this with Tera. Haven't heard or seen it with GW2 though. Please post vids - someone.

Yes I saw the same argument with TOR. I joined the forum in 2009 watched all the hype and was eagerly expecting the release. My subscription expired the 2 month.

This is just a healty skepticism. That said I really hope that this was only fraps or rig problem.

People, I mean just watch some videos. Even the city tours posted by MikeB don't exactly showcase silky smooth framerates. In the Divinity's Reach video, he even states that his FPS dropped to around 15.
It actually has a major weakpoint and that is the CPU. The FX 6100 is literally worse in gaming than the 3 year old AMD 955 BE. Unless the game is optimized for 6 cores it's performance is going to be underwhelming. Seriously, a new i3 beats this thing, it is by no means something I would tell any gamer to buy. So with the processors performance in mind, the number of people on the screen(puts load on the processor), Havok Physics using CPU(Brought to you by intel so it probably runs better on their CPUS),and fraps running(taxes the processor as well); the perfomance issues are very likely due to their processor.
That being said he is also using an AMD graphics card. While the 6870 is pretty good performance wise it also has a weak point as well, AMD Drivers. Almost every MMO I've ever played has had issues with AMD drivers at first. In WoW there were special "lines" in the game that if you crossed them with an AMD card it would crash the game(BWL around Chromaggus iirc). Go look at SWTOR support forums and you will see a lot of AMD issues. I'm pretty sure that Nvidia has been working with ArenaNet for awhile since they already have 3d Vision support. So it might simply be AMD driver support taking awhile.
Honestly, I'm not too worried about this. With months to go and the major issue being mass player performance, that's a really good thing. Every MMO struggles with mass player performance so it isn't like they are encountering unexpected problems. We've already seen 60+ people take on a dragon and it was very smooth, so I think they will get it fixed.
Since I played in the Press Demo...which is Alpha BTW...not even the Beta build yet.
I can say the game functioned very very well!
I had no issues with lag at all while playing.
While filming the only times I ran into lag was with Fraps... not with the game.
Honestly I cannot believe someone would post that it runs badly based on an alpha build...

A product is a product, and both need maintaining. Just because you dont understand how easy it is to see a product that offers something I desire, doesn't mean I need to rethink what I see. Just the fact that you can't accept that, is more revealing than anything else.

I am at the same boat with SWTOR but SWTOR never showed PVP, its always PVE, and PVE guilds are actually growing in a couple servers. But the total subscriptions are definitely not growing as quickly as they had hoped.
From what I have seen just from the videos, its definitely something to get hyped over, and since we are all pvp players, this continously siege of keeps and defending with siege weapons definitely shows alot of promise. And its actually working, its not something that will be available in 3 months after you buy the game, its something that is ready to go once you purchase the game.
Its not something that we gamers have to imagine how it could or could not happen, its whats actually already working as they intended.
Will there be bugs, exploits, problems after its released, most likely, but will a MMO developer that isn't new to the market knows how to deal with them, with their experience with Guild Wars, they definitely will be quicker to action with Guild Wars 2.

... but no, your vendor cant change your car in a boat with a patch. Games on the other hand can be drastically diferent with a patch or expansion.

The title on the front page of mmorpg.com says "Closed beta preview", but it's not in beta, but in Alpha it seems?
