I would think testimony from a trusted source, who spent a lot of time in game, stating that he experienced no lag would be "evidence" for most people that the "massive performance issues" probably aren't as bad as they seem...but I guess you have higher standards .
Anyway, I'm pretty sure that some specific configs are going to have issues with the game at this point in development. Stuff still needs to be ironed out. But I don't think it's as bad as this thread is making it out to be.

Agreed on the last sentence.
About my standards only this: my standards are drastically higher than they were not long ago.
Since I played in the Press Demo...which is Alpha BTW...not even the Beta build yet.
I can say the game functioned very very well!
I had no issues with lag at all while playing.
While filming the only times I ran into lag was with Fraps... not with the game.
Honestly I cannot believe someone would post that it runs badly based on an alpha build...
[mod edit]
This is actually coming from the dude that tested the game. Portraying people as lowlifes just because they point out something obvious is NOT the way to go. Actually it makes me put a big red cross over your entire review.
But there is something interesting that you do mention, which is that the game is in Alpha still..?? I find this as a major surprise as the game is supposed to be out end of June. It normally takes 1 year to bring a MMO through Beta meaning the entire GW2 hype hype is completely out of proportions. The question is wether this game will launch in 2012 or not? Not wether OP is a lowlife for allowing himself to point out something obvious that btw other people and reviewers also have pointed out.

Well. I was just browsing through this thread and am not really trying to say anything against or for GW2 other than I just find a few things extremely odd, which is that the game is in Alpha if it is supposed to launch 4 months from now. It ain't going to happen, that is for sure!!
But back to what you say. You just read the start. read what he has to say about the technical aspects. The game lags like a mthrfcker for him also. In light of this I think it is mildly outrageous that the fanboi writer of the review here can go ad hominem on OP for stating something that is obvious to more than one person. the game seem to lag. Now why am I commenting on this at all. Well I have played AoC for years, and that game have been on and off bothered with lag. They have work on it for ages, and it have actually been quite hard to remove. So OP's concern is definitely valid as the issue at hand is quite hard to shake out of an MMO as well as it is quite gamebreaking.

Even if this game fails on an epic proportion, it will still have covered miles over other MMOs that have been released in the last 6 months to a year.

Listen, how they run this site is their problem. We all have an opinion about the standards this site holds and we all know that words like this would get a ban for normal users. I am not for censorship and mod edits on every post but I don't like double standards also.
On topic. I care about this game. I really want it to succeed. How the game performs in stressed situations is very important and when I saw the videos I became a little concerned. The guy who was in beta had problems too. The lag problem was the first thing that popped into my mind when I heard about the huge maps and players involved in WvWvW. I guarantee that Arena net will have a lot of problems in this area. They are competent and I am sure that they will solve the problem .. but for pvp player like me to ignore the most important factor playability in any game is irrational.
If I am wrong and the world pvp will run smoothly on my fairly good computer then I will gladly come back here and repent.
Because the game runs like complete garbage, even with so few in game, imaging if they let the masses in. Almost every video i have seen so far includes: Lag, a complete freeze up of the game of up to 2 seconds, Characters gliding across the ground or skippy framerates. The WvWvW videos appear to have 50 people around and the player can hardly walk because of the lag. Anet prolly should have kept the NDA on this crap, terrible first impressions from actual gameplay. ( I dont consider any videos from Anet actual gameplay.)
Also, not that i care because i dont PVE anymore, but the collision is prolly one of the worse i have ever seen. Sure its cool that the mobs charge you in a group and are not just standing around. But when pretty much every mob is inside of eachother galloping along, that coolness all of a sudden starts to fade.
Thats my 2 cents after watching beta videos all morning, I have no doubt that the lag issues will be mostly cleared up by release however the WvWvW lagging like that with 1/10 of the people its supposed to have has me very worried as this is my only reason for looking forward to this game (or any game in general.)
you can say anything now .. but i am sure that you will play gw2 and enjoy it till gw3 comes out ! 100%

the only review that complained about gw2 performence issue was kotaku, and its hard to please them without being paid off. all the vids i watched we fine, sure your not capped buddy?

Bit over the top don't ya think? Not saying I agree with him and his chicken little flair for the game but he does have a point. Well, if you take away the excessive embellishment on it. Wasn't there a writer that complained about the lag as well? Although he certainly gave Anet the benefit of the doubt what it would be like when it went live.

The game isn't due out in June, it is due out in 2012. That gives ArenaNet ~9 months to hammer out performance issues if they deem it should take that long. The whole June date was perpetuated by fans(the logic is beta in March/April so a month after that a release) and dates that vendors THOUGHT the game MIGHT be out. It doesn't normally take 1 year to get through beta, I believe vanilla Wow had 7 months from beta start until launch. Warhammer had about 10 months. SWTOR had 12-14 months(iirc). So there is a range there.
ArenaNet is also doing this differently than other MMO's. Other MMO's closed beta's were closer to Alpha testing, they weren't by any means feature complete. Warhammer especially had this issue as only parts of the game were accessible at any one time and they kept adding and retesting. This caused the beta testing to be bogged down by having to constantly retest and give bad results since everything that might impact gameplay wasn't there. ArenaNet is making sure that everything is there for testing so they have a complete picture. This cuts out a lot of time retesting due to missing elements.
As for that reviewer, first off his computer is not great(see above for reasons) so his performance issues might just be on his end and or something that will be fixed before launch. Second, his major problem with WvW is that it's unorganized. He obviously has zero experience with RvR games. While at first things are unorganized zergs, structure will take hold. Guilds will form alliances and cooperate to succeed. Just a small example would be in Warhammer we would have 3 guilds cooperating together. We would siege a keep, have 1 guild guard the back entrance, 1 guild taking objectives/blocking a chokepoint. With so many things to do in WvW you can bet there will be teams to attack, defend, construct, ambush, etc.
All I'm going to say is this. If you have some reviewers saying there are performance issues and others saying there aren't, it is likely it will be fixed. If there were performance issues for everyone, then you need to scared of the game being delayed. Since some people aren't having issues it shows they can get the needed performance for mass PvP, now they just need to figure out why some aren't doing so well.

The Beta is not alpha, its the server & client that are alpha.
The truth may be puzzling. It may take some work to grapple with. It may be counterintuitive. It may contradict deeply held prejudices. It may not be consonant with what we desperately want to be true. But our preferences do not determine what's true.

That makes sense to an extent, I've done many alpha's and beta's I've just never heard of the two not being mutually exclusive.

that much is obvious. and yeah i edited out that part of my post 'cause it really sort of wanders at the end there. i dunno. i just can't accept his arguments. even if it is a matter of personal preference, his arguments in the pvp section specifically are just... bad.

Hmm this posts makes no sense to me also. What do you mean with "credibility bump"? Can you elaborate? He reported the things as he has seen them. If something is disorganized is disorganized. Why is another story. If something is not running smoothly is not running smoothly. Why is another topic.
When you report things you don't need necessarily to answer the question why. This detachment is often more praised than not especially because the why questions can be answered plainly wrong from a person that has no insight in the matter.

Alpha? I thought this was CB? That part has me confused. Unless they mean the game is in CB, and the server structure is in alpha? A-net has used the term CB many times recently..
Game-trashing: get used to it, it's only beginning, it will get worse, if you're getting thin-skinned about it now, you might as well leave the forums. You haven't seen **** yet..
Garret: nice of you to chime in and all, but telling users to get a life might not reflect well on this site, and since when did staff attack users for sensationalism? New to the forum section Garret?

Even if this game fails on an epic proportion, it will still have covered miles over other MMOs that have been released in the last 6 months to a year.
"Never argue with a fool; onlookers may not be able to tell the difference."
I need to take this advice more.
Video's I've watched are pretty lag free.
All the IGN.com videos run great.
The 45minute long video runs great.
I'm not seeing the point of this thread other than to get attention.
Oh and who said the game is to launch in June? I haven't seen Anet say that anywhere. The game has no launch date yet unless they just announced something this morning.
So your going to tell one of your customers (yes i am a customer because you receive income from advertisements, and you receive those advertisements because people, like me, visit your website.) to go get a life (personal insult, against your own site rules) because i post a legitimate concern i have for a game that i myself am looking forward too??
If I am wrong and the world pvp will run smoothly on my fairly good computer then I will gladly come back here and repent.
you can say anything now .. but i am sure that you will play gw2 and enjoy it till gw3 comes out ! 100%
It runs smoothly. It ran smoothly on my friend's computer (homemade PC), and my computer (a 2010 iMac Bootcamped to Windows.)

"Remember, remember - Kakk says 'December.'"
i saw more than one video where the reviewer said alpha. i think the WvW maps are still in an alpha stage.
I've got the straight edge.
It seems like the Kotaku guy was trying to record whilst the system specs were set to high which apparently makes your PC go into the crapping position.
This is not a game.
Hey guys, lets stay on topic. Thanks!
Lol
Bit over the top don't ya think? Not saying I agree with him and his chicken little flair for the game but he does have a point. Well, if you take away the excessive embellishment on it. Wasn't there a writer that complained about the lag as well? Although he certainly gave Anet the benefit of the doubt what it would be like when it went live.
From Kotaku, Kitkatu, or whatever the (bleep) that site is.
I think I'm jealous. As much as I give you folks a hard time you never flame me
Simply isn't fair.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Carl Sagan-
That makes sense to an extent, I've done many alpha's and beta's I've just never heard of the two not being mutually exclusive.

okay. so. this is how i read that.
1: he's complaining about a two day press alpha/beta being disorganized? his credibility takes a bump for being a mad person to expect otherwise. especially since it was for the press and thus people were just trying to experience as much of the game as possible.
2: he acknowledges that it's unoptimized, then spins around and complains that it doesn't work perfectly. okay, seriously? obviously a few fries short of a happy meal. another credibility bump.
3: he's comparing GW1's highly tactical, small scale pvp to mass all out, guns blazing, free-for-all, madhouse seige warfare? really? okay.
i don't know what to say. i'm not going to keep making cracks about his sanity (because he is obviously sane as evidenced by the rest of the article), but the pvp section just makes no sense.
it was a comparison piece. the guy is a huge gw1 fan.
I've got the straight edge.
that much is obvious. and yeah i edited out that part of my post 'cause it really sort of wanders at the end there. i dunno. i just can't accept his arguments. even if it is a matter of personal preference, his arguments in the pvp section specifically are just...
