@ OP, you go code a mmorpg. Check out this vid, pretty good amount of fighting and fail to see lag. The only problem with this genre is douchebags like you who are ruining it by flaming everything you can. Sorry I rarely post just morons like this make me rage. Here is a good video for pvp.
Lol, thats a Battleground or Arena, a 5 vs 5 Match, there is not lag there, the OP was talking about OPVP, WvWvW, RvR. And yes, in the beta, the game have lag with just a few players on it, we have the right to be worried about how it will work with more than 200+ players in the same place at the same time, and dont matter how good it looks the lag in Opvp is a gamebreaker, if they dont fix that in a PvP MMO, the game is doomed to fail. Did you remember Warhammer Forts in the old days? If gw2 opvp looks like that, is over. And i saw the same lag in the WvW vid from Ign. But is just a beta, lets just hope it won't happen at launch.
................................................................The OP is a troll, all he does is troll new releases. look at his name MMOexposed, he seems to think he is some kind of mmo undercover journalist. .......
I saw videos of wvwvw with lots of players and projectiles flying every where and i saw hardly any lag. I haven't seen another mmo pull that kind of pvp off without it being a complete disaster. Guild wars 2 looks great, can't wait for release.
Some press beta testers had problems others did not,ill post the same vid i posted earlier on in this thread for those who like to comment without reading the whole thread.
45 mins of full on WvW,best vid yet imo,you do yourselves an injustice by not watching the whole vid.
No MMO is going to be lag free with 500 people playing in the same area, some with high end system will be okay but others wont, time enough to update ram and graphics card.Don't forget that DEs are going to have large numbers playing together as well.
This is not swtor/wow with crappy yesterday graphic that let 10 year old systems run the game on med to high settings,
We won't know much till there is a more open beta. This could be run on a non production server, or there could be laggy play. We will see. Too much assuming going on right now.
Guild Wars fans aren't trying to claim, at least not as a rule, that Guild Wars 2 is or will be perfect. Trying to discredit any arguments against your point by apply a broad generalisation to a group of people is never a good idea, not least when that group are not doing what you claim they are doing.
There are a few things people need to consider before levying judgement at the game, not least that this "beta" was in fact an Alpha client being played on an Alpha server. The game is clearly not in its final state and - if you actually kept up with all things NCSoft - you'd realise that neither NCSoft or ArenaNet are talking about a release date. All that has been said is that testing will begin in February (which it has) and in April both groups will look at fixing a release date for the title. Even then NCSoft were quick to point out that they would not commit to even committing to a release date announcement in April. You should be able to infer from that little information that the game is currently in a very late Alpha/very early Beta state.
As has been pointed out net code is invariably one of the final things that is optimised. There is no point in optimising the net code at every juncture if the game is going to get bigger, larger and more complex over the course of testing. Certainly there will be some "light" optimisation going on, but to expect NCSoft to maintain the net code to AAA standards throughout the beta testing period is, I'm afraid, moronic. Generally speaking the client itself will be full of junk for a large portion of the beta, and the entire experience will be marred by what-are bog-standard development practices until just before early release when we can only hope. You can't judge a studio for something that hasn't happened yet, and you certainly can't criticise them on the thing that hasn't happened based on things happening now. It's that sort of logic that created the financial crisis we're all enjoying.
And just because Bioware failed to deliver on their assurances to players does not mean ArenaNet are in the same boat. It has been proven time and time again, not least by the more niche titles as well as "old school" MMOs, that you do not need a bazillion gazillion moneys to ensure the stability and quality of your game. The Guild Wars team have been working on MMOs for 6 years; Guild Wars is one of the best selling PC games of all time, and certainly presented them with a lot of challenges to overcome. It is reasonable to assume that they are MORE THAN aware of what needs to be done, and you should leave it at that. Condemning them for what you saw in a late alpha/early beta client is as ridiculous as the fanboys that storm around telling everyone how great the game is and how it's the most perfect thing since the Omega particle.
There are elements that I saw in the game play videos that concern me, certainly, but they do not concern me enough to start throwing around baseless prophecy in order to make myself look informed and knowledgable. Debate the information that is certain - warzones, class talents, WvWvW, etc - but please forgo this tedious and tiresome prusuit of the future like it's an escaped convict that you need to put down.

This is a 45min vid of WvW. I am currently 10mins in and it looks enjoyable and not laggy. It might lag as I go on but so far I am please with what I see.
The haters are already saying the game is crap, the fanboys reply with the typical "it's just a beta, wait for release"... Where did I see this before.
No problem, I bet that after this one is launched the haters will find another game to look forward to... The next one is always the one that will be the best ever =P

all of the IGN videos run great, at completely maxed settings. fluke?
Lewis B from Tap Repeatedly said he used MSI Afterburner's recorder because it was smoother than FRAPS and much less load on the PC, i will post those videos when he uploads them.
Ladies and gentlemen, this post might take some concerns about GW2's performance away.
It seems although Jenn was using the same setup as her partner, she is the one encountering severe lag.
That sounds like software/driver compatibility issues to me. Usually if two people have the same exact hardware but are experiencing differences in running a game, either it's the difference in location/server that's the issue (which doesn't seem possible here since they were side-by-side playing) or one computer has conflicting software/drivers on it that's hindering the performance of the game, or running somewhere in the background soaking up resources.
Though, considering the game is sharded, perhaps certain shards were working better than others. Too soon to tell, really, but if Anet sees people complaining about it, they know to address it.
"Forums aren't for intelligent discussion; they're for blow-hards with unwavering opinions."
Many games in beta were horrible, but they turned out to be great. Battlefield 3 had a horrible beta, we've all seen the hilarious videos of flying tanks and stuff. That's one of my primary games right now. Kingdoms of Amular beta (demo really) wasn't that great, but the actual game is great. I'd put it right behind Skyrim on my list. Most betas have bugs and lag issues. That's why they're beta. I just hope they do better than Bioware did with star wars at fixing the kinks out. There's still some issues that were reported in the beta that still haven't been fixed.
lmao seriously stop the fanboism you guys cant even accept the fact that there is lag in beta?
All hope is lost for these kids
That's your example of "bad" lag?
You're obviously new to the genre. That lag looks exactly the same as DAOC and WARHammer both of which are incredible pvp games.
That lag looks great to me. I thought you were going to post a video of something out of the ordinary for mmo's. If that's the lag in closed beta then I'm not worried.
BTW, it's nearly impossible to not have some lag in pvp for an mmo. If the abilities actually fire off then they already have done more than SWTOR's.

Yup. If I recall there was some really weird bug in BF3 Beta that completely twisted the shape of your character, making him look like someone from Team Fortress 2.
The game may very well be working with some lag issues, though if it is we aren't hearing all of the problems you are complaining about. If the game releases with lag problems, which is possible, then ANet will get hammered for it. I'd be more likely to bet they would sooner postpone release, knowing them.
One thing that cracks me up about people is that they LOVE to post about things that they can't or refuse to understand completely. For example, for any given GW2 video, there are variables such as:
The game is in beta, and still be actively developed
The user's hardware specs and software settings
The user's internet connection quality to the GW2 servers
The use of Fraps and other recording software often adds to computer performance issues, and/or requires the user to lower their visual quality settings to compensate.

Just watched Yogscast, looks pretty smooth to me.
Archlinux ftw
It has been openly stated that they are running this event on an Alpha server, but...
A part of me does wonder why though you wouldnt upgrade your hardware for an important show and tell like this.
We have a lot more to go yet though, so it's really too soon to judge either way IMO.
there are other concerning videos.

FYI: Look at all reviews of the AMD FX6100 CPU(it's slower than their old phenom 2 cpu's), and now think about the CPU load of programs like FRAPS.
Thanks for posting these.
I love how people assume the game runs poorly on every system when they don't even know the Kotaku's rig specs.
Lot's of people say they own a great computer only to find out it's dual core cpu that's 5 years old.
