You have a group of players battling out with hardly any lag.
It is true that the game is badly optimised at this point and this has been pointed out across several websites so at this stage it heavily relies on the power of computers that the individuals use for showing the vids of GW2 gameplay.
All I see from any vids posted here and the ones ive been viewing myself is 90% framerate issues. It boils down to this.. we don't know the hardware these people were running, what sort of internet connection they have or even how well maintained their computers software is. There really is no way to prove anything, good or bad.
Nothing about the quality or smoothness of these vids is going to effect my opinion on the game anyway. I watch the vids for information.. not entertainment, I'll try the game myself for that.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
Since I played in the Press Demo...which is Alpha BTW...not even the Beta build yet.
I can say the game functioned very very well!
I had no issues with lag at all while playing.
While filming the only times I ran into lag was with Fraps... not with the game.
Honestly I cannot believe someone would post that it runs badly based on an alpha build...
[mod edit]
So your going to tell one of your customers (yes i am a customer because you receive income from advertisements, and you receive those advertisements because people, like me, visit your website.) to go get a life (personal insult, against your own site rules) because i post a legitimate concern i have for a game that i myself am looking forward too?? [Mod Edit]
LOL @ the customer thing xD
Just stop it already, seriously, for your very own sake ffs !

This is actually coming from the dude that tested the game. Portraying people as lowlifes just because they point out something obvious is NOT the way to go. Actually it makes me put a big red cross over your entire review.
Sorry dude, you're taking a phrase out of its context : he was not asked to "get a life" because he pointed something obvious. But because he used the usual hater agressive stance of all the usual haters on any new MMORPG. And I guess it's safe to say that we're all fed up with usual haters.
Saying from the start that "the game runs like complete garbage" (while it's not the case on every test video) and implying that ANet reserved it to a limited few because they feared it would be bashed if it was public ... Tell me it's not trolling.
Look, I'm not particularly aiming at the OP here, but it's the same song with every goddamn mmorpg release : there's always a batch of people who just can't stand other people being hyping it. EVERY DAMN TIME a new mmorpg shows itself, even if it's internationally recognized to be awesome (here, gw2), there are some smart asses who can't retain their sour mood, go maniac, and feel the need to spray crap all over the place, even if it doesn't make sense. Just for the sake of "not being like everyone". It's systematic !
And honestly this has to stop. Some people have to stop posting crap without thinking two times before bashing mindlessly. People are on high with this game, all reviews are pointing towards a dream coming true, something gamers are supposed to be waiting for years.
I'm not hyping myself too much personally (thanks swtor for making me learn the hard way), but I think in this case you can expect violent reactions against stupidly violent bashing, for once.
TL;DR : it's not what you say. It's HOW you say.

Because the game runs like complete garbage, even with so few in game, imaging if they let the masses in. Almost every video i have seen so far includes: Lag, a complete freeze up of the game of up to 2 seconds, Characters gliding across the ground or skippy framerates. The WvWvW videos appear to have 50 people around and the player can hardly walk because of the lag. Anet prolly should have kept the NDA on this crap, terrible first impressions from actual gameplay. ( I dont consider any videos from Anet actual gameplay.)
The videos i've been seeing off and on all day even in french and german have all been clean. Dunno what video channel he's watching but all of the ones i've seen are from youtube.
If everyone stops and checks this guys forum post history you will see that he's an avid SWTOR fan and is probably posting this as revenge against everyone who mentioned GW2 when SWTOR was released as an unfinished product. He'll probably post again when the game launches with no proof there's any issues then either.
Knew this type of thing would happen eventually. Well, enough of this, back to the important stuff.
Just a small note on ArenaNet. The founders invented Battle.net - this alone (for me) is an indicator of how many years of expertise they have coding for online multiplayer.
Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play?

Nice find, then I guess that if it's a swtor fan case and he's doing it in pure revenge, the "get a life" from garett holds very true.

This is the 1st beta event Anet has thrown. They are in debug mode. There is bound to be hiccups with this many people playing on beta software and hardware.
You don't throw your 1st closed beta event without gathering every performance metric you can. It's like them running 2x the players at once. mabye worse.
The fact Anet has pvp running this many ppl without crashing means their networking is solid. all it needs now is optimization.
I have little doubt that with the talent at Anet all will be well at launch.
I noticed some performance hits from time to time when the going got rough, the only time it reached catastrophic levels were in a couple of Mike Fahey's (Kotaku) vids... without knowing anything of his specs or capture method there is no reason to fear a falling sky just yet.
You asume too much. You assume that 'they' are upset because GW2 turns out to be better than SWTOR and then you say you have no agenda here. Hell i am not even into SWTOR and never went any further than beta but i am sick of people like you.. the rabid fanbase who are more interested in slinging mud at each other than have an actual discussion.
Looks like my ignore list is going to be huge in GW2. Where the hell are grown ups in gaming comunities these days?
You go right on having a discussion with so called "adults". Because my ignore list is already huge, and it's not filled with GW2 fans, its filled with people who have no basis in reality. When you pull crap out of nowhere, non issues, and ignore everything else, yeah, I will asssume you are living under a bridge. And minimize those points with just as silly responses.
Go read my posts, I have issues with Gw2 but only where it is credible or barely sane to entertain it. What my main agenda is to tell GW2 fans to just ignore the troll bait, and just have fun when the games begin. You go explain algerbra to the kindergarten class.

Telling GW2 fans to ignore the troll bait by being one? is it just me or you don't know what 'irony' means? you are just as bad as OP. Just that you both or on opposite of fences..that is the only difference. My game is better than yours is what suits to kids not grown ups.

Look you guys want to chalk it up as being this that's fine. Maybe it is...maybe it isn't.
I will say minus the obvious exaggerations he made I thought the same thing. As did a friend of mine that I showed the video to that frankly could give two shits about GW2 or SWTOR.
It was in alpha...they were running fraps....whatever reason you want to use for some it was a questionable first impression regardless how you want to play it.
If you want to chalk that up as trolling then by all means. Some of you will for anything that is brought up. No surprise there.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
Of all of the videos I've seen from the press beta, I haven't seen any massive lag issues at all. I did see some infrequent stuttering, especially when the player walked into an area where there were a number of other folks. The stuttering looked more like an issue with the computer (and possibly the fact that they are running recording software), than an issue with the game, but it's hard to determine the cause.
I did see a lot of people who are obviously new to the game :P People repeated tapping on a key to get an ability to go off right away, and only use only ability for the duration of an entire fight. Made me smile a bit.

It was legit, for a whole 2 mintutes when a dozen posts plus a beta tester came in and squelched it like the rumor bug it was. Besides, a beta test using and alpha server and client? Those are the very things beta tests are for.

Like I said. Referring to the videos not that the sky is falling or the game is doomed.
...and like everyone is going to fucking know about the alpha server and client. You mentioned that to someone like my friend his response would probably be, "Wtf did you just call me?"
You even had the Kotoku writer mention it. Maybe he doesn't know anything either or he also needs to get a life. Not sure. Don't know him personally.
We're talking first impressions here not the OP's obvious over sensationalism. Was his post ridiculous? Yep. Is it still something that may raise eyebrows for some that see this as their first impression? Yep.
On a side note, it is rather amusing to see how some have trashed some games as of late go on the defensive at anyone even mentioning the fact that some may not see those videos in the best of lights. I mean shudder the thought!

agreed, the original OP raised an issue and had every right to. But by page two every post after that was non sequitor or were only fanning flames by ignoring the facts provided.
To me the game has issues, WvWvW point systems never work or become exlpoited, people doing a dungeon running around naked because their gear is broken and they cant leave to repair, WTF??? Crafting, don't even get me started, where the hell is it? But lag? Lag is a beta issue's main focus, but if a viable crafting system isn't in place yet, I doubt there will be one by launch.

Well, they're going to have to monitor it on some level or someone will. No matter how many things you have in place or how "polished" it is there will always be some douchebags that will look for any and every way to exploit. I mean some of them will even defend it and say it is just part of the game or what they're doing is perfectly fine even though it can be clearly something not intended by the devs. Never fails.
The whole naked thing? Honestly just looks dumb to me. Far as not being able to leave to repair? I wasn't aware of this. If that really is the case then frankly that makes no sense to me and seems incredibly stupid.
Far as crafting goes I can't comment because I know next to nothing about it. Whcih frankly doesn't say a lot for these first impressions but hey...we have a logn way to go so plenty of time for that. Doesn't sound like it is going to be anything to write home about though. Whether that matters or not I suppose depends on what you look for in a game.
Personally, for me, the only glaring thing that stood out to me that I wasn't impressed with was the vo. I found it stiff, uninspiring, lacking in context and detail, etc. LIke I said before though if when this sia ll said and done that ends up being my only gripe with this game then I'll be one happy camper.

Also, not that i care because i dont PVE anymore, but the collision is prolly one of the worse i have ever seen. Sure its cool that the mobs charge you in a group and are not just standing around. But when pretty much every mob is inside of eachother galloping along, that coolness all of a sudden starts to fade.
Thats my 2 cents after watching beta videos all morning, I have no doubt that the lag issues will be mostly cleared up by release however the WvWvW lagging like that with 1/10 of the people its supposed to have has me very worried as this is my only reason for looking forward to this game (or any game in general.)
oh noes! you're right! it's an awful mess.
you know, i have an idea how they can fix it. what they can do is they can, like, i don't know, invite a whole bunch of people - (edited for coherency) stop me if this is getting retarded - to come in and, like, test the game before they release it? maybe, like, then they'd find out about - really, i think this is a genius idea, don't you? - all the bugs and issues with hardware which isn't directly supplied by the company creating it? i mean, wouldn't that be awesome?
they could even call it something, like, oh - i'm just throwing terms around now - a beta TEST? cool idea?
we should pitch it to them.
you can, if you like. take the credit for an awesome idea i got from reading your post.

Dont worry, when they tune the servers, turn off debug and apply the magic patch... wait wrong game.
Check out the 2nd video in http://au.pc.ign.com/articles/121/1219059p2.html to see a gd example of what WvW is like in GW2.

2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
agreed, the original OP raised an issue and had every right to.

One more thing I'd like to say to the OP.
GW2 beta events for the general public is right around the corner anyway...need I say more?
Looking forward to EQL and EQN.
oh noes! you're right! it's an awful mess.
you know, i have an idea how they can fix it. what they can do is they can, like, i don't know, invite a whole bunch of people - (edited for coherency) stop me if this is getting retarded - to come in and, like, test the game before they release it? maybe, like, then they'd find out about - really, i think this is a genius idea, don't you? - all the bugs and issues with hardware which isn't directly supplied by the company creating it? i mean, wouldn't that be awesome?
they could even call it something, like, oh - i'm just throwing terms around now - a beta TEST? cool idea?
we should pitch it to them.
you can, if you like. take the credit for an awesome idea i got from reading your post.
