I don't see how people love open world PvP so much... I'll make a group run around, oh look there's 1 person we have 5 kill them! the other person respawns and continues on while you get no reward. FUN! Oh wait that's not PvP one side wasn't fighting... Sighhhhh BIG MEN
Warhammer(the same as GW2, just GW2 is bigger and with 3 factions. WAR is pretty much a dumbed down GW2 version, or DAoC version)
Mortal(ok, but buggy)
Darkfall(ok, but a grind)
WoW(lol)
Swtor(rofl)
GW2 is not ffa pvp. It is not open world in the sense of everywhere, it is like DAoC, a huge Zone to fight it out.
And it is not instanced, not comparable with WoW Alterac Valley(which is a joke in all honestly), and DAoC was with a good reason one of the best MMO PvP games of all times, despite not being open world(everywhere) or ffa. It is, and it was just a more casual approach to give the PvE players a break. Would i personally like more? Yes, of course, i am a pvp player, but the second best to a real good ffa open world pvp(and there are not a lot of real good ffa open world pvp games out there at the moment) is a RvR styled 3 faction PvP like GW2. If they come close to DAoC, or even be better than DAoC it will be a lot of fun.
And beside that, for open world pvp is just EvE available at the moment, i wouldnt count Aion, and Darkfall does have to much problems, Shadowbane is gone, and there is no other seriously good open world pvp game out there. And how well ArcheAge will be, remains to be seen, but it is first of all far away, and secondly i am not 100% sure if it is as good as a open world pvp game (instanced castle siege as one point to critizise), but i have certainly some hope for it.
You guys are pathetic. What is your problem anyway?
Personally I would work a 3-4 hours extra for the week and buy the game.
Try out the game and then throw it in the trash can. Just like the other many games.
Its like a desease or something, you guys are starting to get scary...I mean Its just a game.
Whats the problem? Money? girlfriend? these threads...I would close them all in no time if I could.
So please...stop arguing about games get a hobby. I will give you some examples here;
Skateboard
Breakdance
Kung fu
Muay thai
Tennis
Ping pong
Bike racing
Car drifting
Golf
Reading a good book
Watching a good series
Roller blades
Le parkour
Shooting with guns
Shooting with bows
Surfing
Snowboard
Football
Basketball
Bandy
and there is so much more to do... dedicate 2-3 hours a day on something fun and say goodbye to games. Or at least take a break. Goodluck
Many people can do that and still play games, and even argue about them endlessly in stupid forum, you can do it too i guess ;p But ye i think i get you wanted to say, this is really not that important.
I personally think not only that wold pvp is included in WvW of GW2, but it actually offer a lot more, and is actually fixing the worst aspect of world pvp. My main grip about world pvp is not pking, i think pking is very much fine, in fact i think its so fine i don't really like all the rule world pvp put to forbid low level pking, so to give you an idea. So my main grip is not that i'm a carebear and hate it. My main grip is that actually i find no pvp in those open world pvp; ye i know i'm amazing No really i'm just fade up in romming for hours in those games to fight a single guy that will probably be so scared to die he will just run to the nearest safe zone, or when i'm farming and don't want to be pissed because those games are grind machines, so i'll just run in the safe zone so the noob will suicide himself for a good laught.
So when a developer is telling me, guys we are doing server versus server vs server maps, filled with catsle and siege engine, i'm totally sold. But you know everyone have his own view i guess.
GW2 is not ffa pvp. It is not open world in the sense of everywhere.
That's was not the quest was it?
Open world pvp == FFA pvp.
It is the answer to the question.
And yes, open world is not necessarily ffa pvp. But i stated it nevertheless, because open world pvp is a quite vague phrase.
For a lot of ppl open world pvp == ffa pvp. For other it is pvp everywhere, which is again not necessarily ffa pvp. For other again it is pvp in an open/not instanced world/zone(like DAoC), which is also the case for GW2. And i stated all this in my post.

So what is your point? Or just a lack of reading comprehension?
Edit: One definition for open world pvp from Rift. But there are a lot of other definitions.
Combat can occur between players in a non-instanced fashion anywhere in the game world where permitted by the server ruleset. Virtually all Open World PvP games place some limit on where and/or when this type of PvP can occur. This is typically done by zone, area, or character level. Regardless of restriction, if this type of combat can occur, it is considered Open World PvP.
Definition: Objective Based Open World PvP
Objective Based Open World PvP is defined as PvP which occurs for control of something in game. It may be a keep, a castle, a town, a game area which yields high value materials, etc... Though gaining personal experience, personal favor or faction benefits, loot, and drops may be thought of as objectives for a single player, they are not part of Objective Based Open World PvP.
With this definition GW2 would be Open World PvP and Objective Based Open World PvP.
But the more strictly definition is without the restriction or some of the restriction(red marked), and then GW2 would not be Open World PvP. By the way, without any restriction commonly know as FFA PvP would be Open PvP or FFA PvP == Open PvP. As always, it is just a matter of definition, and there is no catch-all definition for the term Open World PvP. Therefore my clarification. And with this Edit another hopefully more insightfull clarification.
I've looked all over and cannot really find an exact answer to this.
I've seen this "WvWvW" stuff, but that still looks instanced to me.
I'm talking about open world pvp. I'm guessing guild wars 2 doesn't have it?
If not, I'll probably pass on this one.. tired of instanced PVP games.
It's not instanced. People will never learn. Instancing means that there are multiple (infinite) copies running of the same zone.
That is not the case. There is only one instance of WvW running. And WvW has everything you would ever want from OPvP, minus the griefing part when PvE'ing.

My point is quite simple and you obviously got it.
OP was looking for open world pvp games, all the games i stated have that mechanic, FFA is not open world, you can FFA in arenas or instances, it doesn't mean at all the same.
I gave the op and you just a more broader explanation, because the OP didnt obviously know what exactly Open World PvP is, because there is no exact definition. If he would meant the Rift definition(posted above), he wouldnt ask that question in the first place, because with that definition GW2 is open world pvp.
So the OP meant obviously something completely different, and therefore i clarified it that much, that it should be clear, isnt it?
And another Edit:
Within MMOs the short-term FFA means not just Free For All, or anyone against anyone, it implies also everywhere without any restriction. And then FFA PvP(commonly used MMO term) is Open World PvP.

Sure, i'll agree your definition of what FFA is or isn't, but GW2 can't really be compared to Rift, can it?
I mean in Rift you can pvp in the actual world where you quest and where the "story" happens, in GW2 you can't, that's how i understood the OP question.
Unless you make a parelel between both due to the lack of FFA?
Either way, the OP later responded and clarified that for him open world pvp means preety much what you can do in WoW pvp servers or Darkfall.
If what you are looking for is that anyone can be attacked by a player at any time then no it doesn't exist.
If that isn't what you mean then your definitions for "world" PvP vs "Instanced" don't really make any sense when put into the context of the various MMOs that have used this term.
I've looked all over and cannot really find an exact answer to this.
I've seen this "WvWvW" stuff, but that still looks instanced to me.

Will I ever feel like the enemy may attack our home where I spent my lower/medium levels PvEing? Will I ever feel like my home is any different from their home knowing that their areas are identical to ours? Will I be able to choose between fighting in desert, snowy mountains, prairie and jungle? I have more questions, but I would be glad if you could give me answers to those, to start with.
Sadly no open world. Its a carebear PVP game but i still think the pvp will be enjoyable regardless of instanced.
yes cause facing an equally geared player is carebear compared to WoW/rift/swtor where your gear matters 10x more than your skill anyday. go play your "hardcore" pvp games with your gear crutch to get you by cause you lack real skill.

You are perhaps misunderstanding the use of the term carebear. Carebear means players are mostly or completely "safe" from pvp while out and about in the world.
And yes, the game is carebear. Personally, I'm OK with that. If you want open world, 100% looting, no holds barred pvp, this is not the game you want to play.
WvW is open world. It doesn't span more than 4 areas, but it is still open world. I interpret open as persistant and unique. Once a WvW cross server map has reached a player limit, no instance is created and neither is an overflowed server designated.
I think the reason they don't have world pvp is that it adds to the lore of the world and the dire circumstances......The Elder Dragons are wreaking havoc on the world so why would the nations be warring, but the WvWvW that promotes server pride rather than faction pride, don't misconstrue it, WvWvW is extremely important you are gonna want to dedicate a little time to it to ensure that you get the bonuses
There are times when one must ask themselves is it my passion that truly frightens you? Or your own?
I really hope all the little whining people who ruin world pvp in all the other MMO's play GW2 forever and stay there, questing away in safety without fear of being ganked and leave other PvP games alone. I am sick of Devs pandering to these little whiners who should never even roll on PvP servers in the first place.

its still the same its high lvls ganking low lvls
or a raid of high lvls ganking a smaller group of high lvls
theres no strategy no skill its based on numbers and gear
score for 90% of the fight and then 10% is skill
and any non "carebear" game will never b more than a niche game
ganking/greifing just splits the community and spurs negative attitudes
GW2 has zones with open world pvp for the people that actually want it
and it doesnt split the community to do it
these zones include PvE objectives and DEs along with forts to control
and seige equipment and anyone can go there and participate and they
will be auto lvl 80 so no ganking lowbies which should never b in
a game in the 1st place if they want to keep ppl playing

I thin that most of the hardcore pvpers are those who lvl up avoiding the other faction and wen they get at max lvl they go back to low lvl areas to kill underleveled guys who then go to complain.
This thread should be renamed to "Is there any ganking in GW2".
There are no rival factions on a server so there is no open PvP as a greater threat have unified the races (the return of the great dragons). However, there is a contest between worlds for domination of the Mists. The Mists bind everything together include the past, present, and future. Controlling the Mists brings benefits to your world which may help defeat the dragons.
Anyone who has watched video or read up on WvW knows how expansive it is. There is more than enough open PvP to satisfied everyone other than gankers.

People influence games by buying them. If more money goes to games that seperate PvP and PvE, and developers make more games for those people, who are you to tell them they are wrong?

Seriously who cares about World PvP?
You log in with your first level 1 char and signs up for BGs or WvW.
Ganking/open worlds means you are doing quests meanwhile... I like to avoid that and just PvP instead.
