GW2 vs Tera my almighty opinion

PalladinPalladin Member UncommonPosts: 430

I will start out by saying I think  both games are good

Things I liked or not about each game.

Missions: GW2 prefered

I didn't realize just how much I really dislike doing them. Why you might ask. Well there are numerous reason.

1) I don't like collecting them

2) I don't like haveing the number limited after I have run all arround to get them.

3) I can never remember where I got them

4) Often you would do better just going out and rolling mobs the exp would be as good or better.

There really isn't anything I like about doing missions at all.

Tera is misssion heavy which i guess some people will like.

GW2 only has misssions for the personal story line and they are often none entrusive to game play.  I loved the dynamic events. I could join in or avoid them whenever I wanted. I also foudn that joining the dynamic events was a really great way to ge exp which made leveling really fast. I had the feeling I would wonder around the world, do as I pleased and take part when I wanted to. I found this to be very emersive.

Combate:GW2 prefered

Tera combat locks you into place and you can't move until your combat sequence is finished. Iw ill say the combat sequences are smooth and looked pretty cool.

GW2 combat was much more free flowing. I was able  to fight and move at the same time. Best comparison i can think of is FPS style play. I've never liked FPS games but I think arenanet hit the jackpot here.

Crafting: GW2 prefered

I like a good crafting system. I want it to be well thought out and take some effort to learn and master. But the choice to be a crafter should not be to the exclusion of all else.

Both games requires materials out of your lvl range to gather if you were trying to craft gear as you lvl. Both games have coin sinks, in the form of materials you have to buy from a vender to craft pretty much anything. These coin sinks ketp me broke at all times. Both games are misers when awarding coin for vendoring items and rewards for mission of events. Both games require considerable effort in the crafting arena but I was cool with this.

GW2 has an experiment feature which allows you to discover "advanced" recipes.

Tera has the ability to proc upgraded products while crafting.

PvP:  GW2 prefered

In GW2 each server for a lack of a better way to explain has two worlds. One for PvE and another for PvP. If you do not want to pvp you don't have to you are fine so long as you do not enter the pvp world. (I think its called the mists) PvE players are never at risk unless they want to be and enter the mists of their own accord.

In Tera if you want to pvp you have to play on a pvp server which employs a karma system (good vs evil) As a PvE player you are at risk of the gank fest even when you don't want to be.

Ok well these were the major issues for me. Feel free to rage all you like.

Thats not really comparing if you just prefer GW2 in all aspects.

Personally I find the combat in Tera way more inticing. The action oriented combat actually makes pvp and boss fights fun and exciting, instead of awkward and clunky as I feel they are in GW2 atm.

I think GW2 has alot of cool concepts, I just feel they failed at implanting all of them smoothly. To me it just feels too similar to Warhammer, Rift and SWTOR. Which isn't aweful, I just don't think they did anything so groundbreaking to make it the next big mmo.

I do prefer the game world and map in GW2 because it adds a layer of detail and immersion that Tera doesnt have, but it's a toss up because Tera's character animations are way smoother. If only they could put Tera's combat/animations into GW2's world, and then mix in some elements of UO and classic EQ while they're at it :)

Knowing what the traits of traditional action games and actually liking the traits of traditional action games don't have to go hand in hand.

A true mmorpg champion will not compare the two but play them both seperately. Accept them for what they are and just play the holy hell out of them!

    PREACH! Agreed.

Personally I applaud both companies for doing something a little different than others. I will be playing both instead of posting on forums in order to instigate drama between game fans.

Tera does do a few things better than GW2 and vice versa. I'll be playing both. That being said, compairing the two is like apples to oranges. Completely different games imho.

Why not?  It is very possible to compare good things with crappy things and find that the good things are better in every way.  I can compare the original star wars movies and the prequels and find that the originals are better in every way.

On topic I prefer GW2 over Tera due to dynamic events and world v world.  I think Tera has better graphics but GW2 has much better art direction.  (I was so sick of my female slayer only wearing half a pair of pants)  The combat rooting in TERA I found to be a good thing and I enjoyed Tera's combat.  I think GW2 could have gone a bit more twitchy but am satisfied with it as is.

Most accurate reviews and Press agree that Tera is worthless pre level 30 but becomes interesting after level 30.

To see why there is no comparing TERA vs Guild Wars 2 go watch the last TWIMMO on gamebreaker about TERA and you'll see. (The Following are not just my personal feelings but are agreed with most press reviews of tera.) I just wont pussy foot around and try and call tera a good game when it isn't, it has potential to be a good game but it flat out isn't at the moment.

Combat system in Tera though interesting was robotic and clunky.  yes Locking me and anchoring me into spot when I do anything and not allowing me to dodge until any skill has finished = horrible.

Questing system in Tera level 1-20 or even 30 was a nightmare and completely ruined any experience I had within the game.

THE ONLY GOOD THING TERA HAD = Graphics, it was absolutely beautifull and then I experienced GW2 on full graphics in an un optimized beta and deleted TERA forever..

I've played my share of korean grinders and that is all TERA is with nicer graphics.  Its a grind and a horrible one at that, No differences in the mobs you fight.. As MikeB aka Fony jokes about killing trees over and over and over just with different names.. No thanks.

Tera does NOTHING better then GW2.  absolutely nothing  I've played both and see aboslutely no reason to ever pay a monthly sub for another game so help me god.

There is no comparison because TERA is not a good game, its released unfinished and has a monthly sub + box price.  its not an MMORPG its a MMOGRIND = dated and not worth my time.

Guild wars 2 on the other hand apples to apples nothing compares.  It is similar if you stretch it to compare to other games but it does things so differently or masks things soooo well that it doesn't matter.  Questing / Adventuring / Exploring was extremely rewarding.

I'm a full time gamer and I'm burned out with traditional grindy questy linear crap and as I predicted for myself from the indepth research I did, Guild Wars 2 has and will quinch my thirst.

The only thing that needs fixed in Guild Wars 2 is Party + Over Flow system and Not Full Party Being separated in structured PvP.

Gary Gannon from Game Breaker.com put it perfectly in their last TWIMMO about TERA. Its a rip off and is stealing customers money. But I did find a reason for it, PvP bullys will love it and its ability to allow you to PK anyone at any time and wage war on anyone at any time... Let them have their game and they can have it.  I refuse to pay a box price + sub for another free 2 play korean grind piece of crap.

I played the TERA open beta a few weeks ago, and the GW2 beta this weekend just past.

What makes me laugh is that TERA is really pushing their Real. Action. Combat......... but the combat in GW2 just seemed to much more action packed and dynamic to me.

I played a ranger mostly and having to dodge incoming attacks, throw off some arrows, knock the mob back, throw off some more arrow, then dodge out of the way as they get into melee range, switch to melee weapons, attack with melee moves that dodge around, or knock back the mob just seems far more action packed than the self rooting combat in TERA

I completely agree with the above post - TERA is for gankers, GW2 is for skilled players interested in a real challenge

It just felt like he prefered Guild Wars 2 without giving Tera a shot. I find it hard to believe he actually liked the combat in GW2 better unless he didn't get off nooby island in Tera.

Hmm, I'm a GW2 fanboi but love any mmorpg. This part I marked is just his opinion and I have one too. You can't steal anyones money if they are enjoying what they are paying for.  This guy has no legitmate right to tell anyone what they should do to entertain themselves. His publisher or the directors at Game Breaker.com should know that also and have in my opinion discredited their site.

Will there come a time when we stop comparing GW2 and Tera and just say that people should play what they enjoy? It's not Highlander folks, there doesn't have to be only one.

    "Loading screens" are not "instances".
Your personal efforts to troll any game will not, in fact, impact the success or failure of said game.

It seems that guy wrote the article is extremely biased in his review of Tera. Opinions are opinions but damn, thats some absurd journalisms.

Please do a GW2 vs Call of Duty, GW2 vs UO and specially a GW2 vs Blizzards Titan.

    Why would people do this?

    Games are games.

Tera will be awesome for some people, GW2 will be awesome for others, both will be amazing for many and both will suck for others.

    Enterteinment is subjective.

Well, it is comparing in every way. Just because GW2 won each time doesn't mean the OP didn't compare each aspects properly. They have played both betas.. anyone who has done that and says one is better has still compared the games... simple as that really.

Comparing TERA to GW2 is like ASKING for trolls to please come run a rampage over your thread.  The person who said, "This thread will not end well," is correct.  Nothing good will come from this.  You could have just as easily gone over to the TERA forums and given them a cordial invitation.

Having said that....I actually agree with the things you said about GW2 (of course).  I don't know enough about TERA to comment on but a very FEW things, and those aren't important aspects like combat.  For all I know, TERA's combat could be just terrific, but I haven't EXPERIENCED IT PERSONALLY so therefore I'm not suited to comment, so I don't.  The only thing about TERA I have ever commented on is the graphics (which I have seen in videos), and the use of sexualization of characters (also from videos).  I can't comment on any of the technical aspect of gameplay, but a lot of people seem to like it, so I figure it can't be all bad.

Both of these games are loved by many and hated by few.  I think they come up pretty even in that department.  Why can't we all just agree to disagree and keep enjoying the game that we want to enjoy.  What's so freaking difficult about that?  No, we'd rather try to convince the unconvincable to switch to "our" favorite game.  It's just really silly.  Why should you care if someone loves a game that you don't????   What is the big deal?   lol

If Tera(Bluehole) seems anything like Lineage(NCSoft) (GRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNND) it might be because ex-employees were convicted of stealing Lineage 3 code and hardware to make Tera: http://www.mmoculture.com/2012/04/former-ncsoft-staff-jailed-for-lineage.html

It's seems a bit ironic to me.

I'm in total agreement with getting along, I know it won't happen but it would be so much better if we could help one another enjoy the games we favor instead bashing the ones we don't.

Getting anyone from GW2 to get along with another game will never happen. Since the announcement of GW2 rabid fanbois have been invading other game forums since it was announced. Quite annoying to everyone else.

It seems to be mostly GW2 vs Tera though, as far as I can tell. GW2 fanboys going into Tera threads, being assholes, and Tera fanboys going into GW2 threads, being douchenozzles.

Just wanted to point out your most recent post history shows you spend most of your time in the GW2 forums.
