I can't agree to most of the posts here... in my eyes the combat in Tera is so much better than in GW2 - I guess I can never move back to point and click MMOs. Besides the quest which are truly good in GW2 it doesnt offer anything nice. The PvP for me is completly crappy... I hate instanced PvP! Nothing is better than Open World PvP with politics and drama and not about stupid rankings.
But well there is something for everyone. But if I count everything together and if I take the awesome graphics of tera (and the so fluid animations and combat feeling with collision detection etc.). All other MMOs just feel so old
Our guild is having a blast in Tera and we will definately skip GW2 for now. Let's see how Teras endgame is... and how long we are hooked there. But it looks like due to the open dynymic of the game it will be much longer than any arena or battleground instance pvp can give us.
I hope TERA treats you and your guild-mates well!
.....but calling GW2's combat point and click combat is misleading and wrong. You CAN point and click, you can also just turn and fight. If you threw on a crosshair it would be the same.
This is 100 percent accurate. I'm not sure that I "clicked to target" at ALL. I looked.....literally LOOKED.....at mobs I wanted to attack, and attacked them. I think I might have clicked to change targets a few times, now that I think about it, but mostly I just looked at the mob I wanted to attack and attacked..... I did have to aim AoEs on the ground with a ground target, but I don't see that as such a horrible thing. /shrug Oh....and I did MISS my target a few times because I was out of range. Again....I don't see that as a bad thing.
And for the record, since I've seen comments about it in this thread....I LOVE the personal story part. LOVE it. But I love a good story, I love lore, it's all fascinating to me, so it's a natural extension of that for me to love personal stories. I enjoyed that part of SWTOR too. Meh....I guess sue me? Anyway.....very glad to have the personal story line.
The main problem I have with all these posts is that it feels that the people bashing Tera have only played it for 20 mins or less.
This doesn't lead to a fair comparison. Currently I'm lvl 30 in Tera and made it to 11 in GW2. I can't emphasize enough that Tera doesn't really get fun until 20+ where BAMS, PvP and Dungeons start.
I know that's a game design flaw, but I urge all of you not to judge by the first 5 minutes of play.

It is indeed a design flaw. I am regretful as I played in the Open beta and got to lv 16 with my warrior and had enough. After the event was over and seeing all the posts about how you need to get past 20 for it to get good, I kind of wish I had the chance to try it again, but I don't want to buy into it.
"PvP bullys will love it and its ability to allow you to PK anyone at any time and wage war on anyone at any time"
you do relize its people like you who ruin what true world pvp is in mmos nowadays right?
true world pvp isnt some glorified battleground like ilum and guild wars 2's wvwvw system they got.world pvp is,going out into the world with a couple of buddies and smashing people.its such a shame that the whiners ruined that aspect of pvp in mmos
although,i dont really see Tera doing very well anyway.you know a korean mmo has failed when casuals on a casual mmo are playing it,hince ive seen alot of people talking about Tera in swtor's fleet chat lately

"True" PvP, as you call it, is a place where anything can happen and you always have to be on your toes. It can be glorious and chaotic at is best.
Unfortunatly, its also a place where angsty teenagers overcompensate for being grounded, jerks who thrive on makeing other players game experience garbage, and losers who get a thrill from beating another character 30 levels below thier own.
Real victory comes from the knowlege that your opponent has all the same chances you do to win, and still crushing them into powder. Thats what GW2 PvP tries to offer.
Its a shame that every game that doesnt cater to the PvP pureists gets flamed.
Well I still think you cant compare combat in Tera and GW2.
Tera uses a real FPS approach. All of your positions and actions and those of your foes are 100% accuracte and synched. All executions of your skills are (at leas tif you ping is below 100 - which it should in europe) absolute instant and without delay (just think like a normal shooter). I tried it with my wifes PC -> when I move on my PC I instantly move on her PC too - something I haven't yet seen in any MMO. There is absolutely no skill delay, lag etc. - this alone makes combat so much real time. In GW2 how often did I time the skill wrong because I had to take lag into account - and don't tell me they will fix this. The problems lie in the engine.
Tera uses the Unreal 3 Engine... it is made for totally synched fight because its comes from shooters. And that exactly is what I think stands totally out in Tera. Once you get to the later bosses and you fight (or in pvp), timing is so important and the feeling that you don't have any delays, that you feel your enemy due to collision detection etc. is so awesome. Also the fact that hit rating and evasion, solely depends on you and not on skills/level/gera is a big plus.
Regarding PvP ... well some people prefer instanced PvP and some prefer open World PvP with Politics and Drama instead of points and rankings and fairness. I guess that just depends on your mmo carrier...

Tell us,what else do you know about their engine? How long did you work at ArenaNET on the engine that you know so much about it? Please, share with us!

You mean, hit rating and evasion works just like in GW2?
By the way, there's a Tera forum on this site too in case you didn't know

Sorry I didn't wanted to say something bad in your forum... but I thought it was a VS thread
I don't know anything about their engine... I just speak from experience. Those are cores things that can't be simply changed. Its all about how you design an engine. I know that it is like this in GW too, but just look on 2 pcs what happens... its FAR from being truly synchronized like tera is. You can talk about that you like the story much more and questing and whatever other features, but the "true combat" and animations are definately not compareable to Tera - otherwise you haven't really played it yourselve, beyond the starter area...

For the game to be fun, why do you have to wait until level 30? For the game to "capture your imagination" and find the game fun to play, I certainly don't want to have to wait to achieve a level 30 for that "fun" factor to kick in.
i prefer Tera. even though i consider buying GW2 at some point. why do i prefer Tera? it offers me, that old school MMO feeling so rare to find in modern games nowadays, but with great graphics.

See that`s the kind of Argument I can respect. It´s a matter of preference. I don`t see why people have to bash other games, just because it`s not to their liking. Is it all just intentional trolling? I don`t know. But I am sure that there are millions of (potential) mmo players out there and no 1 single game can cater to them all, so to each his own.
See I like GW2 better because I have been around the mmo scene very long and I have gotten tired of the same old same old. I want something new, and that`s gw2 that dosn`t mean that I´m going to bash anyone playing tera or swtor or any other game, those people might love those games for the reasons I don`t like them.
So please people don`t bash this game just because you don`t like it`s features, go play something else if that is more to your liking. I am pretty happy about the stuff I have seen so far in the beta. I mean yes, I only got to level 30, but and there`s a lot more till 80 and it is to be seen how that will work out. But hey so far so good LOVING GW2 so far.
From my experience after playing TERA in Korea server
If someone who love grind game as other typical MMO, traditional quest with Beautiful graphic, embellishment boss fight, actiony hack and slash combat. Tera is the good game, but for the next big thing in MMO.....Hell no, we dont want another grind mmo to be the next generation.

Out of curiocity, where is the grind in Tera, in your opinion?
after watching live streams of tera and being burned on tor i went and bought tera this morning. Haven't played but I think ineed to stop chasing standard themepark mmos and go for ones that actually push innovation...oh and visually tera is friggin ammzing !!
Thats not really comparing if you just prefer GW2 in all aspects.
When you take two items and compare them, it is a comparison by definition. I could compare twinkies to asparagus and say that I prefer twinkies in all aspects and it's still a comparison. Or perhaps a better word may be a "biased" comparison.
You may just be tired of MMORPG's and should take a break and play some single player games you missed for a while. It might freshen your interest if you give them a rest a bit.

Yes may be I am tried of MMORPG,
For GW2, I didnt have any experience from open beta, I just reading the features and a lot of praises comment from fanbois, Fortunately my friend just prepurchase the game, so may be I will borrow my friend to get in the next beta and try it for a day. If it's still doesnt work for me, so I am done in MMORPG game.
Depends if you like the shiny anime style with little cute girls etc races, becouse i dont and for me GW2 is more realistic and its art style is fantastic
Combat
i prefer the GW2 combat it require more skill and movement than Tera
Quests
Tera quests are "Go kill x mobs that stand next to me chained by go and gather x items from mobs you just killed"
GW2 is all about dynamic events, yes gw2 also have kill and gathering events but also way lot more other ones that scale depends of how many players are there
PvP
cant say much about Tera becouse i couldnt find a group to PvP and there were alot of gankers that doesnt allow you to finish your quests or whatever you were doing
In GW2 i went to structure PvP or RvR whenever i wanted and i spend about 15h doing RvR in last beta it was just epic expirience having non stop fights
PvE
tera is just another korean style grind game
GW2 awards you for exploring, helping npcs you find on your way and dynamic events are awesome
GW2 is a fun game from 1-80 but the lack of endgame causes it to lose its´ shine within a month.
Tera will last around 3-6 months.
The innovative thing with GW2 is that the "end game" starts at level 1. That's something those who got endoctrinated by the EQ/WoW clone way of doing things will have a hard time to understand. People who only know WoW and later MMOs just can't imagine there are other ways to do things, which can be actually more fun...

but i apologize if you are a professional clairvoyant. I simply have never been convinced such a thing has any merit beyond psychological trickery.
as for GW2 being for casuals and Tera being for gamers 4-6+ hours a day. That is complete fantasy. Neither company has ever stated that they intend to aim for those demographics and there is no clear indicator anywhere within or without your post of the validity of such a conjecture.
Am I allowed to like both games for different reasons?
So many people here with the mentality of one OR the other, when you can play them both. Yes, there is a problem with time constrains, but there is also a thing regarding boredom and how alternating can combat it.

i enjoyed the game the moment i got into combat.

same thing i can mention to gw2,
i found it fun from lvl1, but i got bored after lvl10, does that make this game fun?

its for casuals and for gamers that play 10h+ a day
