What I was saying about the mobs is the same as WoW, or any standard MMO: killing mobs before taking the quest does not credit you for the kill, right? In GW2, it doesn't happen like that (save for personal story) since you get the "quest" by stepping in an area instead of talking to someone.
In GW2 killing mobs only gives credit for the event that actually calls for them. In TSW there are quests where you have to kill mobs and they don't always tell you even where they are. You have to use logic to find out which mobs to kill. Many of the quests don't even require you to kill X number of things. They are in there, but aren't the bread n' butter that you find in many traditional MMOs.
I am surprised how well the active dodging fits with the combat. Devs know their stuff. To see them listening to the players and adding stuff like this on the fly, it gives me confidence in their dedication to this game.
I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.

I believe they planned it all along. It's not like active dodge is a new feature for them, it was in AoC.
There is no way it beats GW2 for game of the year. Mostly because Anet is simply much much better than Funcom at producing a smoothly made product.
They have only made 1 MMO 7 years ago so they don't really have much of a resume to compare. That being said, I've thoroughly enjoyed what i've played of GW2 so far but TSW on the other hand feels like something from a cheap 'n nasty budget shop.
I've played games from the cheap n nasty shop, they are called korean F2P games.
And whaaa? Who said pandas will win WoW goty? We're trying to have a real discussion here, keep the jokes to yourself.
I predict, and I am an unabashed GW2 fanboi, that GW2 will decimate the competition by year's end. Tera will have less than 100k subs, TSW will be a flash in the pan at most and it won't ever top 500k subs and will decline rapidly, SWTOR, well it is SWTOR after all lol, it'll have 200k subs, and WoW will hold steadily and it'll actually have a spike in subs for 2 or 3 months when MoP goes live. GW2 will sell something like 7 million copies in its first 2 years, and it'll have sold 4 million copies by the end of the year with no sign of slowing down.
Mark it down yeah!
I predict GW2 will indeed be childrens game of the year.
Tsw is not a hub based game, you do not collect a shopping list of quests do them and return to the hub for your next list. It just does not work like that. Most locations in the world have less than 3 quests. The only location where I have found more than 4 is kingsmouth police station, probably to ease people in that are used to wow norm games. That has 7 quests.
I don't think it will win game of the gear not by a long shot.
The reason I mostly say this is the buggyness and clunkyness of movement, action, etc.
However this game is definitely on my list of games to get along with:
Torch Light 2: Because after playing D3 I'm more so looking forward to this instead.
Guild Wars 2: The game is already payed for, though I'm in the beta's I refuse to play because well..its heart breaking knowing that my progress will be wiped.
Rift Expansion: I have actually taken a very long break from this game, how ever my sub doesn't run out till I think april of next year...bought a year long one. That being said I will definitely pick up the expansion and I'll probably switch over to the defiant side to level on that path to change up the story a bit. Wish there were more people however at least 100-200k more just to kind of fill out the ranks, or that I would find an incredible guild. Other than that I love this game and even with TSW and GW2 this game will be the second while the other two will switch out here and there.
I loved TSW it was so exiting and it's really what i was looking for BUT,
after i played the first BWE and i found out this:
1. the game core quality is bad and i would focused here on the way to much instances and lame combat when you compare it to GW2 , you'll feel like it's AOC all over but still AOC was much more fun than this.
2. Pay for the game , pay monthly sub , pay for the shop huhh say what ??? do i need to sell my car to keep playing or something ??
let's face it this shop is not like the wow shop its a part of the game ( not that i agree with wow having a shop ) it feels greedy.
what i don't understand why Anet can make such a game like GW2 and with no Sub and Funcom can't do the same, the first thing that comes to my mind is that funcom failed here and i don't have to pay for this failure let them pay for it.
so for me i don't see TSW going anywhere tbh, anyway this is just what I think, if ppl think other wise i hope they enjoy the game and have fun in it.

The reason it probably won't win GOTY - pop culture....the mainstreamers just want an easy grab bag of goody goody fun set in a high fantasy world where they can say "meade" instead of beer...
The reason it can win GOTY - No other game brings anything new to the table. For all the crazy talk about GW2 questing system, it's nothing new. it's been implemented in games like Champion's Online, DC Universe and probably others...reach a certain area, get a quest or objective. Also PQ's belong to WAR. From what I've seen of GW2, it's the same story, same fantasy world with PVP combat....strafe all day and dodge when your bar has enough stamina.
Tera - the combat is ok, but RaiderZ combat is actually very similar and, imho, much better...that is FTP....Tera doesnt stand a chance.
Neverwinter - who's making that again? Ok, thanks....
TSW offers alot of new, retains the good "old" and gives a whole new atmosphere to immerse yourself in.
Skill Wheel is awesome, but you won't realize how great it is until you've played a bit and gotten used to it.
Kill x of y quests are the minority in the large lists of quests you'll do...that's most certainly a first.

It's not as benign as WoW's, close though, being all cosmetic stuff but much more of it, and there are xp pots. It's not as extreme as GW2's either. There is no cash to gold conversion and no gear.
As far as the combat I think you need to give it ago on the pvp weekend. I'm hearing great things about Fusang, the persistant warzone.
If they fix the character creator I will be all over it. That was my main gripe with the beta. Otherwise, a very solid game and different which I have been looking for. I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility for GOTY. If it comes down to box sales however I don't see it happening. I'll be keeping a close eye on it.
But I cant see it being the game of the year ro even MMORPG of the year.. I can see that gonig to GW2 or as i now call ti Jesus2.. as for some reason people think its the second coming and dont see it as just another fantasy themepark MMO..
Its not a bad game just nothing special.. saying that the only really different thing about TSW is the world setting.. but i had more fun with TSW so thats what i will be playing.

For the combat i really hope so, am interested in the game but i want a fun combat, am not looking for a game like Tera ( i didn't even buy it ) which is all about the combat, i just want it to be more fun that's all.
as for the CS am not against it, i just don't see why it should be there when we already pay a sub every month.
i would gladly buy from CS when i feel it's fair and they are giving me a good game that came out of hard work.

This is why you don't hear any problems from people on the official forums. "We will not sell power" is much stronger statement than "We will not sell anything that gives you an advantage", plus being able to buy clothes in this real world setting feels so right. Polo shirt IRL 60 bucks, Polo shirt in TSW 99c (completely made up amount i have know idea) good deal!
Seeing a lot of other crappy titles getting awards and rave reviews, I wouldnt be surprised if TSW did, even sing-a-long with Bieber for the DS has a good chance, and yes I made that up before any fool bites.

Time to try it again and see if the enhancements they made since the last beta weekend helps? I have got a friend who plays GW2 and he got to try the closed beta and he really liked it now. Trying it long enough to get a build going also helps.

It's quite easy to understand when you notice that Funcom hasn't put anything useful into their cash shop.
I hope it doesn't win GoTY. Then maybe it wont be flooded by those who don't like the game but only play because it looks popular. I would pay alot more for the sub if it would help keep it a niche game.

Final Fantasy 7
TSW obviously wasn't what you were looking for.
after all yes agreed

GoTY will go to something like Black Ops 2, MMOs will never win against console shooters.
Even if you are just talking MMO-only GoTY, competition is far too high for a Funcom game to stand a chance.
