    but

The first time I jumped I started cracking up. It just looks silly. I was "shooting" zombies with my pistols and my normal attack was my character holding the guns straight up, my special was me holding them sideways "gangster" style. This also made me laugh. It's really sloppy when you're trying to fight and your back is turned to the enemy; you have to like wheel around to face them (annoying). I also like how I was standing still while zombies were swinging at me and just barely moving from the hits as my attacks kept going through without any interuption or delay.

All in all, it beat my expectations. I've heard nothing but bad things about this game. I can understand why, but I think it has a lot of potential. If the OP is serious and is praising the combat & animations... words don't come to mind.

Exactly! no WoW 2005 shooting over your shoulder stuff!

I don't know if you're trolling, but I mean it is guns we're talking about here. You should be able to shoot over the shoulder, under cover, and blindly (albeit without autolock targeting). That's not what I meant though, and I'm pretty sure you knew that. If you've played you know what I'm speaking of. When you try to turn and face your target to fight, it just feels so sloppy.

Maybe you don't understand why I posted the GW2 video so I'll explain it.

TSW feels very unattached, half your body moves while attacking and the other half moves while walking.

It feels very unnatural and disconnected.

GW2 feels like your entire body is moving, that's why TSW's animations are awful.

This thread really needs to be Locked already. Most of us here (or at least many) are playing the beta sesions for TSW and know that TSW needs work on the combat department. Obviously OP hasnt played the game that is judging by  1 video.

We all know who made this "bad animation, bad combat stuff" up supporters of a certain game with no release date... I would love for them to put there best made player video up against this video. Lets compare.

    1. Graphics

    2. Animations

    3. Combat

Now, I do know that animations are a form of art. People have different taste. The purpose of this thread is to have a side by side to dispel this "TSW has bad animations/combat"

At this point TSW has been throughly vetted.  Those two statements on art taste are the best the most hardened detractors can come up with. Let the show begin!

edit - make sure video are PvE. TSW PvP vids will becoming next week! TY Mmotosher for the link! All comparision will be posted to OP.

Edit- GW2 Comparision video thanks Gamer.

umm your kidding right.. all you have to do is pick up a hammer to see the bad animations.. you swing it like you would use a broom to sweep the floor. There is no weight  to the items your  using.  Go pick up a 20LB sledge hammer and swing it as hard as you can see how you react. Not like you do in game.sry   Granted my complaits dont mean i hate the game because i dont.   I just wish they would make them more impactful.

I really think animations would be the last thing to worry about with this one.

No mouse sensitivity settings, horrible controls, SLOW basic mouse speed(Had to adjust basic mouse settings... mouse by default zips accross both monitors when I Move it accross the desk 1/2 inch, ingame i have to sweep the bloodty mouse accross my desk to get the guy to turn a little)

Aside from the very basic, 1990 style tab, mash numbers combat(with no autoattack so it MUST be action.. lol) and buggy 'no line of sight to target' errors, etc, makes this game one that needs work.

I didn't even look at the animations/'beauty' of the graphics in MY judgments. If I did, my thought would be that this game has a LOOOOOOONG time to go before is ready.

Now this isn't to say gw2 is any better....

    It looks completely unnatural.

Would you like to post a video of your favorite mmo to compare?

Look at any other MMO you can move and attack.

    DCUO:

    TERA:

GW2:  Even the shitty theif video shows it:

I personally don't have a huge problem with the animations but if I do compare TSW to these games I can see a difference. In these games the motion seems to be more driven by the animation rather than the motion driving the animation. What I mean by this is, that in these games the character will blend to the left/right strafes before or simultaneously while they are moving. And, the blends are pretty quick. So the character is moving or appears to move in the direction that the animation was made for. In TSW, if I press left or right quickly, my character will be moving right or left for a noticable amount of time before he is actually playing the left or right strafe. The character blends way to slowly to those anims. Looks like he is sliding around.

The attacking anims I think look ok. They could of used some additive animations but that can be labor intensive w/o proper tools. Although additive animation have there own problems. Splitting the torso/arms off is fine for me, although it does look a bit stiff.

I get this. There have been so many builds. There was one before that last where this was not an issue. It was super tight almost as good as WoWs. So I know they have it there. I wonder if it will be in the release client. Nice post.

Out of all of the games I've tested and played over the past ten or so years I would say that TSW in beta ranks about the same as FFXIV. Great concept and well thought out but poor implimentation and mechanics. I would even go as far to say that FFXI has better animations than TSW does at this point and that was a game developed more than ten years ago. The game just feels hollow to me.

Comparing the 2 videos TSW combat looks a lot faster paced. Wow a lot faster paced.

Just looks that way huh? It looks like GW2's combat is in slow motion compared to TSW's

that is due to something we call "personal bias" :) play what feels good to you and stop testing the other! lol

funny, thats actually how i felt walking around tyria.. but thats just my personal opinion. Character creation hasn't been put into game... what we have is a placeholder, not sure why its so hard for some of you to comprehend... regardless, if all you care about is how your character looks, your best bet is Aion.

He was pretty specific about calling it "faster paced." TSW feels like a snails pace to me. It's not just when compared to GW2, but to most MMORPGs.

If he had just said he liked it more or whatever I could get on board with your comment.

Like many, I also prefer GW2s combat and animations to TSWs. There is really no need for us to post any videos, many examples of both game are on the web(especially gw2). Besides, playing the game is much different than watching a video.

Either way. Mr cooper is on a mission, no matter what video is posted the well never EVER see it theother way around.

The thing is the client is already 32GB in size and it feels like a console game. Also using DX11 for graphics and it is that clunky?  Funcom has alot work ahead of them.

Yeah, that's a pretty good video to compare against the TSW one. It shows how much more dynamic and fluid the combat is.

This reminds me of politics, when you have an agenda you always follow your talking points. Are you in politics cooper? ;)

whats all this spooky 'video-compares'? Will i play a video? I played TSW and GW2 (if you want to compare those) - and TSW animations are crap. they are bad, you know? Thats no 'art-style' or 'taste' thing. thats: do people really slide over the floor and look pathetic when sidestepping? GW2 animations are not very good too - far better than TSW's tho. The art direction of both games is great - imo (taste!!) GW2 looks better, feels better.

And then: GW2 is the better game (for me). by far.

All this is based on actual PLAYING. you go on and watch your videos while you start useless threads.

Thanks for the video Aero. This is much faster than the other. It's a little hard to see animations though with all the smoke/fire/clouds around the character though.

Once you unlock tier one of your weapons and move up the combat gets faster and animations get better. it doesn't even take that long to unlock first teir skills.

But why are we making comparisons with GW2 now? two very different MMOS when it comes to combat.

So the envirornments are placeholders also? I'm sorry but the game comes out in three weeks and they don't have characters sorted out yet? I hope they postpone because the whole game looks like a placeholder at this point. Oh and I do play Aion, which also has better character animations than this garbage.
