Go play DayZ or games like Darkfall and then comeback here saying GW2 have carebear PvP becouse RIFT and TERA are also casual NORISK PvP for casuals and carebears witch btw is bit rude saying that to a large group that likes pve or PvP with norisk involved, you seems to have no respect for is rather sad.
I advice stay at TERA or RIFT we in Guildwars 2 want nice players who repsect others for there game interests and dont judge when its not yours you seems to have lack of this respect.
Respect other ones choices thank you:)
Do you differentiate between nice person and nice ingame character? Does the wanted respect go boths way?
Why is there no open world PvP? Before people suggest WvW, let me say I come from DarkHaven. We demolished every fight I took part in, which is why I came to hate it. Borderline: No challenge. Killing players feels unrewarding (low points and blank names, Server X/Y), more fighting NPCs then players, not balanced, highly repetitive. It does not give the vibe I get from other PvP games, its shallow. sPvP is the same, repetitive and heavy team oriented.
My friends and I come from RIft and TERA, as avid fans of open world pvp we are disappointed. This game seems catered towards casual players, or PvE carebears, everyone wants to hold eachothers hand. WvW is not challenging enough, sPvP doesn't give us what we desire, so my question is: Why is there no open world PvP? Many games have the option of a seperate PvP server, why doesn't GW2?
Because GW2 developers are smarter.
1) pvp and pve create separate communities
2) GW2 PVE is about cooperation. Autogrouping, no mob tagging, loot and resource nodes sharing...
Having pvp in the pve world would be stupid and against the game's design
3) They spent a lot of time and efforts to make it impossible for people to grief others.... and you want to have owpvp in gw2???
4) Having owpvp in the pve world is stupid btw. The owpvp fans are a small minority who cares? and for every single owpvp happy to gank other you get at least 5 other players frustrated by it. Not exactly a smart business plan
5) you can argue all you want "i don't gank" "i don't grief" "'i want a fair pvp fight".... but in the end it's all lies. 99% of owpvp is ganking and griefing. If you are not into ganking and griefing but you enjoy a nice and fair fight..... well you have the WvWvW ready just for you!
So here you why Gw2 has no classic (and stupid) owpvp. Instead it has the much much better WvWvW
Btw if you think it's not a challenge because you tried it in an unbalanced beta... did you know in the release you will be matched against servers of similar strenght? In the future you can get your a. kicked as much as you desire.
I dont understand why people are always asking for incentives to PvP?
For me, just playing against other people is enough, rewards are nice, but they arent where the fun is, the fun comes from besting someone else through the use of skill.

It depends on what you mean with "don't PvP"; I assumed you meant people who don't want to PvP unless it is in some structured form or not at all ever. Such people should not choose a PvP server.
As for why people would want access to Open PvP and not just WvW, I can requote my old post:
"
That is a good a question and instead of answering it, I think it is better to discuss what people like with what they consider to be Open World PvP.
A few things I like about Open World PvP:
* Huge variation in scenery for fights. I hope the Mists provide enough of this.
* PvPvE in form of active PvPing around world boss spawns. Not only do you have to be paying attention and surviving the insanely powerful world boss attacks, but you also need to fight off other players, scout for hiding players, keep an eye who has aggro and claim so that your team gets the loot when the boss dies.
Furthermore, those world bosses need to be attractive enough to always lead to intense PvP fights. I don't want scenarios where the boss spawns, but we are the only group there and noone even tries to PvP us.
* When engaging in efficient (keyword: efficient) PvE leveling, I want to need to plan my routes, including escape routes, carefully. I want to always need to be alert about my surroundings. When fighting a mob, I want to always keep in mind that any second a player could come and try pk me if I am careless.
"
Pvp around world boss only cause grief and frustration which is why Wow never had any world boss after vanilla.
Maybe you like to plan you routes when fighting every single mob, but how many casual players would do that? This game is cater towards casuals.

That is precisely why there are PvE and PvP servers. The hard task is keeping both types of servers interesting for their corresponding players. I repeat though, that I believe Arenanet wouldn't be able to make decent PvP servers (as in servers with open PvP) without spending an insane amount of resources and time due to the mechanics looking the way they are now, so I rather they didn't.

I agree with the red part. Open world pvp just defeat the purpose of GW2's pve philosophy which is co-operation. I do hope people can find W v W engaging, because its the closest thing to open world pvp with everyone's power is not far apart.

Isn't this completely against Gw2's design?
aggro management
mob tagging
specific loot tables for world bosses
griefing
That's not Guild Wars 2 at all. It's like going to WOW and asking "i'd like to have a factionless game where you can freely join player generated factions. that would be really cool"

It doesn't have to look the same way, just giving an example from Open PvP of how that PvPvE was engaging. In fact the example I gave is not restricted to Open PvP at all, it can, in loose but relevant terms, very well happen in more restricted environments such as WvW. Just need to make the boss dangerous and important so that people do appear whenever it spawns.
Edit: In fact every point that I mentioned can more or less happen in Guild Wars 2 if designed correctly. It is just a matter of incentives and design. For instance, Arenanet can design so that there is efficient PvE leveling inside the WvW (not sure if there is yet) where it is dangerous to be due to rather easy access from opposing sides.
I really not obsess about OpenPVP or PK things, it is not fun at all. And in GW2 the leveling is quite entertain me (DEs, Heart, Instance Dungeon)with have no OpenPVP things in the game. I really have no idea why would some people really want PK in PVE game, ganking noob, carebears. if I want challenging fighting with other people I would go organized PVP rather than ganking someone. And if you want to have openly battle with massive people, want ganking someone on open world GW2 still have WvWvW, but WvWvW is not meant for PK or ganking anyway.
What would encourage World PvP in GW2? I don't really see daily quest zones where everybody just gathers and fights. There aren't really any choke points to camp to prevent people from leveling, because people can guest to other servers and level just about anywhere that is at or below their level. World PvP objectives would be redundant with WvW around. Not to mention WvW gots the upperhand in rewarding people who want to purely PvP and encourages PvP to happen more frequently. WvW gots way too much thunder to convince me to stick around in World PvP.
I dont get people, if you can choose in what type of server u want to be why not let us have a PvP server with world pvp?
A pvp server makes no since in this game. No factions. GW2 will forever be limited in this fashion.
Is this the only AAA mmo with 0 factions?
There are actually quite a large number of factions in GW2. They aren't all at war with each other though, which considering the lore behind the game, wouldn't make sense anyway. Most of the races and factions put aside their differences temporarily in order to collectively stop the dragons from destroying their world.
Nice try though.
What are those factions? I thought everyone was on the same team.
A faction is a group of like minded individuals which exists within a larger society and in GW2 they exist in the literal meaning of that word. They are part of the story, not just an excuse for aimless killing, like in most other games.
For example the charr players can be members of one of three factions, or Legions as they are known. Picking one of the three will drastically change your personal story. For example Ash Legion are spies and assassins, so picking that legion at character creation will have a lot of your missions about subterfuge, assassination and spying. Blood Legion are frontline warriors and choosing them wll have your missions be geared towards fighting the enemies.
There are other factions in the game as well but I'm not sure if you can join them or not.
The Devs were asked this during the Reddit interview this very question... here's their response...
Hello! Excited to play your game but had one big question...why no open world pvp (or servers that offer that)? The overall design for Guild Wars 2 does not support fully open world PvP and it would take a prohibitive amount of work to even make it possible. World versus world is our version of open world pvp, and while it isn't 'true' open world pvp for more pvp purists, it does contains many of the elements that make world pvp so exciting. Hopefully it will mostly satisfy people that want open world pvp. –Ferg
Seems some people may have missed this, so here it is again. Can't happen, won't happen.

I read somewhere about pve type quests in WvW.
Little forum boys with their polished cyber toys: whine whine, boo-hoo, talk talk.
1. will there be enough players to make WvW exciting and strategic
2. how much effect gear will have on pvp
3. will WvW get old and meaningless given it resets and the world never changes
4. will the failure of people to socialize and organize doom it
1. Every two weeks server pairings change according to how each server performed during the previous period. If a server has low population that is interested in WvWvW they will be dropped to the bottom of the list. Servers with high activity in WvWvW will be paired with servers with high activity. With this system server populations will stay competitive for WvWvW even after a long time.
2. In sPVP nothing since you have access to all items. In WvWvW I'm not quite sure on the difference gear will make.
3. WvWvW resets so you will get different opponents with different tactics. Each 2-week period will be a fresh start, keeping the game interesting. Also the challenge should be increased with each consecutive "win" in WvWvW, since you'll be paired with higher quality servers.
4. We already have "hardcore" guilds organizing WvWvW on various servers. However the long term effect is impossible to predict as of now.
Block the trolls, don't answer them, so we can remove the garbage from these forums

4. will the failure of people to socialize and organize doom it
1. Since yesterday was a short stress test, the WvW was probably limited. A lot will depend on the server you are on, I suppose.
2. In sPVP.....none...everyone is equal. In WvW everyone is LvL 80 but their gear is not (based on their real lvl). After a period of time, a true lvl 80 in lvl 80 gear and skills will have a good advantage over a newb lvl 1+ without the skills and gear.
3. Depends........but what would happen if the servers did not reset? If one server was dominating the other 2 and they couldn't/wouldn't overthrow the 1, would they give up? Then what?......no WvW pvp at all. Reset and balancing the server matches is good IMO.
4. It would doom any game IMO. Depends on the servers to promote it, I suppose.

#3 is more about the fact that nothing is permanent in WvW. I mean its the same world that youre fighting in, but the opponents change. After a while, will it get old? This is similar to PVE really. The world is static for the most part. Nothing every really progresses. It just resets.
I still find it amusing that you can't have actual guild wars in "Guild Wars" the game.
Very amusing.
That is not true at all. You can still play guild vs guild in structured PvP and your guild can battle against other servers' guilds in WvW. In GW2, your guild battles guilds from other servers via WvW in an epic scale rather than 8 vs 8 or what not. So technically, there is still guild vs guild in GW2
I dont get it. There are open world gankfest pvp games out there. Its obvious what you and your friends want(gank lowbies) so just go play one of those games.
GW2 is using the same system DAoC did and I would not call it a care bear system. It was where hardcore PvP started in MMOs. If you had open world PvP in the PvE areas I am not sure how you would do dynamic events. Your AE would be killing the NPCs and the guy beside you trying to help you. The PvE area is not designed for it. Also to be honest, I dont like mixing PvE and PvP together. I am in a different mind set when I am PvEing. I am exploring and smelling the flowers and looking under rocks. When in GW2 open world area I become the hunter and I no longer care about flowers and whats under rocks. So for me GW2 style of open world PvP is how I like it. I would like to see ANet add some WvW dungeons where anything can happen. This would work nice for players like you.
how big is the WvWvW area? say compared to fusang for anyone that played tsw.
If you were to run every road it would take you about 1-2hr to run. If you tred to see every area of the map it would take an an evening to check it all out. Start looking under every rock and cave, it would take a few weeks
There is 4 maps in WvW and each map is larger then any MMO map I have played and I have been MMOing for 14 years. One map is like 2-3 Barrens in WoW and like I said there is 4 maps.
