Why is there no open world PvP? Before people suggest WvW, let me say I come from DarkHaven. We demolished every fight I took part in, which is why I came to hate it. Borderline: No challenge. Killing players feels unrewarding (low points and blank names, Server X/Y), more fighting NPCs then players, not balanced, highly repetitive. It does not give the vibe I get from other PvP games, its shallow. sPvP is the same, repetitive and heavy team oriented.
My friends and I come from RIft and TERA, as avid fans of open world pvp we are disappointed. This game seems catered towards casual players, or PvE carebears, everyone wants to hold eachothers hand. WvW is not challenging enough, sPvP doesn't give us what we desire, so my question is: Why is there no open world PvP? Many games have the option of a seperate PvP server, why doesn't GW2?
Game design doesn´t allow open PvP.....since there are not factions.
PvP will be servers againhst servers....is it that hard to undestand??
If you are LF open PvP & factions fighting each other you have PLENTY of other games

WvW is more hardcore than any open world PvP i can think of. Individuals, small teams and big groups can all do useful things that contribute to their servers victory. Winning servers and servers that hold key points get bonuses for the WHOLE server.
Just because you cant gank lowbies(which is what you really want, isnt it?), or dont have the skill to compete in balanced PvP against players with equal gear and stats, you come here to complain. stop crying, grow a pair and come fight against challenging opponents in WvW. If you just want to grief/gank people by surprise out in the open world, dont play GW2, its not for you

Eh, WvW isn't hardcore at all. Give me some loot, give me something. I want that adrenaline rush I used to get when gaming back in the day. It's what made the games fun. I got more of a rush looting someone in UO than I've had in past MMOs since and really just gaming in general.
There (in my opinion) has to be a risk/reward to make it "count" I guess. Why do you think DayZ is so damn popular albiet it isn't an MMO. People are so used to grinding for weeks that they think that's how MMOs should be. With a full loot or even partial loot system as long as there isn't long grinding sessions for gear it really isn't much of an issue unless you suck and die 20x a day.
You already have people questioning WvWvW and the game isn't even released. People already don't see the point of holding onto them or bothering, and after 3 months it will just be 10x worse. Expect to see 4-6 WvWvW servers that are worth anything, which might end up working out OK really...we'll see.

I think GW2 should copy something from TERA where guilds can war dec against each other. This would allow various guilds to Kill On Site each other in the normal world.
However I am sure that Anet is quite gainst this as it confuses their idea of having truly cooperative PvE. Even if normal players are not involved seeing two gangs starting killing each other will mar the idea of cooperation and may cause an event to fail.
Screw that. Most people use that for ganking and will just end up camping your corpse. Dueling I'm down with. If it's a dealbreaker for you I suggest another game
Notice how all these people that are in favour of open world PvP never actually respond when you call them out on actually just wanting to grief/gank people? WvW is true PvP where you compete against people of equal level with equal gear etc. The differentiating factor is player skill. Not how many hours you have been grinding for uber gear.
Open world PvP is just ganking.

The game Silkroad online had the idea of an open world pvp right, the hunter thief trader triangle conflict back in the day was really one of the best thing any online gamer can experience..
1- it is not ganking, you attack someone who is willing to fight.
2- it has incentive, make money from trades or steal from traders.
Being able to fight around in the beautiful terrain is what kept a lot of people attached to that game for years even after it went down the drains.
GW2, has even more pretier and huge terrain, it would be a real shame if all that huge beautiful landscape went to waste, you only go there once, do the quest there and never visit that place again, don't you all think?
why not GW2 devise something similar to that trade, thief, hunter triangle conflict, you get to pvp in the open world whenever you want and in the same time you are not affecting anyone's experience around you that doesn't want to participate in an open world pvp.

Who is questioning WvW? The half a dozen open PvP fanatics on MMORPG.com? That's not a very good indication of "people."
The game obviously doesn't fit your play style and that's fine. The great thing about being an MMO fan in this day and age is the fact that there are multiple games for almost each play style. Hell, even furries have their own MMO. As a fan of open PvP with full loot, you have a number of games available to choose from.
I dont get people, if you can choose in what type of server u want to be why not let us have a PvP server with world pvp?
Because that would require a complete redesign of the game as it is build specifically to not accomodate open PvP. I've waited a long time to play this game and I do not want to wait 2 more years for ArenaNet to redesign half of their game mechanics to fit an open PvP model.
You want open PvP, there are multiple games that offer it. Or just enjoy the game for what it is. When I play CoD, I don't complain that the game has no RTS elements because CoD was not designed with RTS elements in mind. GW2's PvE zones were not designed with open PvP in mind either. On the other hand, the game does have zones that were designed specifically for open, meaningful PvP.

Because GW2 isnt designed that way. Anet have stated several times the reason for the way they have chosen to implement PvP. The lore doesnt support it either. The whole background to GW2 is that all the races unite to fight off the threat of the elder dragons.
No, There are several incentives to go back to the same area many times. The level matching mechanic means that if you go back to an area to help out friends / guildmates your level is adjusted to the mobs in that area so they are still a challenge, but you get drops and XP appropriate to your actual level. Also, the Dynamic Events in an area are likely to be different each time you go back to it. During the last BWE I went through the same area several times and had a completely different experience with totally different dynamic events happening. There are also rare dynamic events that only happen rarely so its worth going back to an area to experience them when they are triggered. Especially since you get level appropriate drops / XP.
Anet have told us many times that they want everyone to have fun and enjoy the experience. Ganking lowbies may be fun for the small minority of douchebags out there, but for most people it really isnt. On either side. I get no satisfaction whatsoever from ganking someone many levels below me. Fighting a skilled opponent who has the same gear/level as me is much more enjoyable. Thats what WvW is about.
PS - still none of the Open World PvP supporters have replied about being called out on just wanting to gank people........

I like the way GW2 is set up, I can choose to PVE or go to the mists to PVP, the PVP zones are large and quite fun, the option is yours on how you want to play. To be honest I get sick of the PVE/PVP zones integrated, as someone is usually outnumbered so they just get stomped on and can't continue to quest if they want. I have had it happen to me both ways, it just never seems fair when theres 4 guys to your one or vice versa. Definatley like the idea of just having a pvp zone, everyone knows what there getting into than.
I'm not trying to be rude to any posters or anything, but for all the people that were wanting to PvP against people that don't PvP, it SUCKS TO BE YOU!!!! Enjoy playing some other game.
Now I would suspect that anyone that actually wants OWPvP in GW2 is only capable of winning a PvP match by attacking someone that has no intention of PvP in the first place. Maybe they need to balance the odds by attacking someone with only 10% life left, or in the middle of a fight with a bunch of mobs. Usually thats what OWPvP is known for, the most pathetic PvP possible.
I would like to thank A-net for providing us with a well designed, clean game and leaving all the shit "gameplay" to accumulate somewhere else.
I'm not trying to be rude to any posters or anything, but for all the people that were wanting to PvP against people that don't PvP, it SUCKS TO BE YOU!!!! Enjoy playing some other game.

That's not what they are asking though. They are asking for specific servers with Open PVP enabled. The people they will be encountering in those servers chose those servers and would know the risk associated with those servers. Noone is asking for PvP against people that don't PvP.
PS - still none of the Open World PvP supporters have replied about being called out on just wanting to gank people........
Iam one of the open world pvp supporters, and i think i did reply,
The no purpose open world pvp is the one that will be filled with griefers who want to gank for the sake of ganking, like EVE and such.
but the one with purpose, like the system i gave example to, both the fighting forces, have agreed to fight in the open world, by wearing the thief or the hunter suit, and both will achieve something "game money in this case" .. so it is absolutely not ganking for the sake of griefing.
and yes i know that you can visit the same terrain again to help a friend and your level will be matched to that area, but in the end you are still doing the same quest, wont be that exciting after the 3rd time i can assure you, and i also can assure you that i did all of the "dynamic" events in the first and second area.... and i wont be doing them again in the full release,
so yes all those landscape will be visited 1~2 or even maybe 3 times at max, and after that everyone will be at pvp specific instances, thats what i fear.
this is a very beuatiful game and i want it to be the best out there, open world pvp can have rules, and not all the open world pvp is mindless ganking.
I'm not so sure why games don't go towards being able to declare war on guilds. You know, Guild vs Guild warfare. What is the issue?
You declare, they declare back, great, now you are all red to eachother and can kill whenever/wherever and people who aren't involed obviously can't be attacked. Not so sure what's wrong with GvG.
PS - still none of the Open World PvP supporters have replied about being called out on just wanting to gank people........
