Mild?  TOR is the second most successful game with a subscription option.  ESO should be so lucky.

Closing down 95% of the servers and being forced into a Free to Play model equals successful subscrption-based game. Gotcha. SWTOR was just good and selling boxes, not much else.

I expect gangbuster sales and then moderate retention.  I honestly believe they would have done better with Buy to Play and DLC.  I guess it depends on how good the updates are after launch.

I expect the same which to me isn't a bad thing. I'm hopeful that they will retain more than I expect, but it's so hard with all the different choices out there nowadays and what always comes right around the corner.

    There Is Always Hope!

And the players would suffer for it because the content getting released would be shallow kinda like GW2 and its content updates.

It will be free to play or buy to play (discounted box price) within a year. Probably Christmas of this year.

Any and all content they release as those promised updates will be stuff they now already have in the can. That is probably the decision making process right now what to include at release and what to hold back. That is apparent in what we have seen so far. Racial locks were never going to change. They were added as a 0pre order bonus to get people to but early. Imperials a race that they supposedly didnt have and werent going to have, added as a 20 dollar perk to the CE.

So they will more than likely hold a fairly steady update schedule for a few months and depending no how quickly they can develop and introduce truly new content (stuff that doesnt exist right now game ready)  will determine a few things maybe. So if they are able to actually make new content beyond what they hold back they might buy themselves a few months, especially if people that continue to play are willing to sub as well as pay for things above and beyond that.

In terms of the game itself some will like it some will love it others will hate it just like every other game ever made. It certainly doesnt have anything ground breaking or fabulous from what videos I have seen, if anything it looks like a rip off of a lot of games already around, Rift, DAoC, AOC, and GQ2. It certainly from the videos resembles those  games a hell of a lot more than ES title I have played.

Maybe if you stopped paying attention in 2012.  For 2013 they made 139 million on their cash shop alone, and supposedly had roughly half a million subscribers as well.  Nobody in the industry is likely to describe that as failure.  Adding a cash shop and a free option is the new normal.  ESO will probably do it eventually, so will Wildstar, and the only reason Landmark *might* not add much of a traditional cash shop is because they are going to be letting the players do the selling instead, while taking their cut off the top of every transaction.

    Through strength, I gain power.
    Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
    The Force shall free me.
