Also if a lion strays into another pride's territory that lion would most likely be attacked and killed.
Well, that is called war. People invade for natural resources, more territory, etc.
If an animal, 'A', is hungry and it smells food, regardless of which animal bought the food at the local corner store, animal A will go and take the food.
If World War 3 happens, we will probably see people killing each other for food.
If a dog smells a female dog in heat... that dog will try to mate with the other, just for the purpose of making ofspring.
Ever watch Jerry Springer?
And that female dog will mate with possibly many many other dogs regardless of who she is currently married to......
See above comment.
I did love the comment about the animal going into the store buying food. I just had an amusing thought it my head.
Actually, I find the whole idea of there being a god quite amusing. I really cant understand how people can believe in "god" because of some book written thousands of years ago, I mean cmon - noone has any proof whatsoever that this entity actually exists, and even if it does - how come other people have other gods and they are taught (like us) that theres is "the true God"?
This is what I think happened:
"On a windy day, long long ago, a man was sitting around being bored out of his boots at herding goats all day long without any fun at all. Sitting there he tried to amuse himself by imagining great and wonderful stuff happening to him.
That night when he sat at home at the dinnertable he got the idea of writing down the little story he had grown in his mind during the day - just to have something to do you know.
As next day dawned the man was actually looking forward to go back out to his goats, as he was already spinning new tales in his head - one thing more wondrous then the next. So he spent the day there thinking not of his goats but of the grand world in his head where he was the center of creation.
As the days grew into months the story also grew - and he decided to call it "the Holy Bible" and himself "God" and the people his "Worshippers".
Years later, laying on his deathbed, the man handed the book to his son (who didnt know the father had written it) - the son read the book and was fascinated by this god-character so he shared it with some of his fellows who coied it, and they shared it with their fellows and so on..."
...until today - when people still believe in fairytales...
Ok about this let me ask you this question why do u believe the wind is there?(I can answer the question for you) because you feel it. RIght??? well i can believe that theres a God because i feel him. IN church i feeel his presence its crazy yeah but thats one reason why i believe. And another question why do you believe that the ancient tribes existed and why do you believe that the phenicians or the babylonians exist..if you say writings and stories that is exactly why some people would believe in the bible.
THe question about the other gods..... it is allll because of satan...satan has moved the right and true path by moving it one degree off way....when you get to the end when you're suppose to be in the right spot that one degree off the "path" has screwed you over and your in someplace way off the place your suppose to be...............
When a navigator on sea uses a compass they need to be perfect to get to their destination if their one degree off track then they will be in a completely different course in a completely different destination at the end.
The one trick that satan did to humanity in the 20th century was make us believe that he didnt exist thank you C.S. lewis and that one staff for showing me this amazing quote
I would just like to remind everybody to keep on acting civial. And to some of you, just because you get corned and dont know what to say dosent mean you have the rights to lash out with brutal words. But Iam really liking how this Disscuison is turning into. We are all acting civial, at time some people lash out, but all is good.
P.S. Firemagic just because you dont like it dosent mean it make believe or a fairytale, have respect for others and what they believe in even if dont agree with you.
There are reasons Christianity has the reputation it has today. According to scriptures, the founder was great. That doesn't seem to effect the actions of the typical christian today. I go so far as to think of them as obnoxious, ignorant, and of course, hipocritical. Methane said there are no such thing as holy wars, but look at what's happening today. What you believe in is a very hot issue. Perhaps Methane was right in saying wars aren't religion, because now a days they are more about ego and who's right.

I don't think he is trying to offend anyone by him saying that it is a fairy tale. If he truley believed that Jack and the Beanstalk was a true story, you may say to him "How can you believe that, it is a fairy tale!"
Originally posted by firemagic Because I don't live in a world of make-believe.To answer the rest of your well-written but misguided post, yes there are a lot of difficult to understand things about the reality we live in but it makes no rational sense to say "Well hey! If there was a god, that'd fit into the category of difficult to understand things! That means there must be one!".All the things you describe can be tested against empirical evidence except for the various current string theories which, while regarded as extremely elegant by a fair proportion of the scientific community, will remain theories until the necessary equipment is developed to test them. The beauty of the scientific method is that if a theory is proven false you don't have a bunch of people crying because they really liked the sound of it. It gets disregarded in favor of something else, which is then tested empirically, thus continually advancing the state of human knowledge. The pity of religion is that when put up to critical analysis, it simply falls apart.
Well there is a problem with your theory FireMagic. Your "Science" unfortunately is just another set of beliefs. Just like I can't say that "GOD CREATED IT!!" The same goes to "it just created itself.." Big Bang theory isn't widely believed anymore by acredited scientists because of it's breaking of the fundamental rule of Conservation -> Energy Cannot Be Created or destroyed. So the big bang -> Out of nothing.. something theory can't be possible. Big Balloon theory is alittle better theory wize... But again improvable... Science is just a very accepted Faith and here is my reason for such. ----> Prove to me that one + one is two.
You can't do it. Scientists can't do it. Infact at claymath.org (I think that's the website) they will give you 1 million dollars if you can prove that one + one = two. But inorder to function we just have to have faith that it is true. But Alll science is based off the fundaments of numbers... even though we can't prove it to be.
Well isn't that funny..... ALLLL science is based off a little bit of faith. Science is alot like religion, isn't it.

Consider sentience. We know that it exists, becuase we know we're self aware. However, there's no way to quantify it, nor is there any real indication of when it begins or definatively ends.

You keep saying this yet you have yet to present such analysis. Please, let's see it. Put your money where your mouth is.
Sure thing.
Nobody has ever seen any of the hundreds of gods currently being worshipped around the world today.
Thus, it's rational to conclude that none of them exist.
We can disclude guesswork from the equation. Everything that you can't see, hear, touch, taste or smell exists outside the realm of our senses and we are oblivious to it. If you don't know what it is you're looking for you can only guess as to what it is.
We can discount guesswork because the chance of there being a god is as infinitessimally remote as there being invisible hoovers in my yard, purple pumpkins on Jupiter, or any other one of the billions of trillions upon quintillions of possible "things that might just exist that we can't see".
Someone saying "Although no-one has ever seen a god, I have a warm feeling in my tummy that leads me to conclude that one exists" makes exactly as much sense as someone saying "Although I have never seen a unicorn, I would really like for them to be real so I believe that they exist".
You can believe whatever you like, but whether those beliefs correlate with the actual reality you live in is another thing entirely.

Sentience is an abstract concept, and is thus irrelevant to this discussion.
