It's not exactly easy to make new content for the biggest MMO in the world, and I think players sitting around for a year is a testament to how good the game is. But this seems to be your only gripe with WoW, perhaps going outside or playing more casually would alleviate the drought so you arent blazing through content so fast.
Square-Enix seems to have no trouble doing so with a fraction of the revenue gained compared to Blizzard. What you don't get is that I (and nobody else) has to deal with Blizzard's massive disrespect towards the customer when there are better deals out there. I think it is a testament of Blizzard's arrogance that they can't achieve with 10 million subscribers what Square-Enix achieves with <1 million. Just let that sink in for a second. Though I am getting the vibe here that you aren't even aware just how much effort SE puts into their game and are just talking out of ignorance. Otherwise you wouldn't be such an apologist towards Blizzard's greedy practices. There is simply no excuse for Blizzard's disrespect towards the customer. NONE. SE is doing what Blizzard is no longer willing to do. That's the one fact that is undeniable no matter how much some people want to deny it. Why would I touch WoW with a long stick? It's a good game but I don't exactly like being forced to bend over and take it.
I'd rather wait and have polished content than crap honestly, and I dont think not releasing content every month can be considered "disrespectful". FFXIV released slaughter and it completely destroyed PvP in its already terrible state. Now they've released the GS which has increased 30min wait times to 1hr, and for PvE as well. Dumping shabby content every five seconds isnt a good thing, it leaves no time for them to fix whatever problems may arise. And really, if Blizz wanted to be greedy they could just do what Square is doing and release half thought-out material but charge for it instead, but quality is much more important to them so they wouldnt do that. And if there truly were any MMOs that were on par with WoW there wouldnt be millions of people playing WoW right now, would there?
Yeah! WoW doesn't release garbage content! Just look! It only took them a year of no new content to finish their newest masterpiece Garrisons! Oh wait...
You're seriously complaining about them adding new mini games because it's hurt the dungeon queue times? I think I've heard everything now. (To be fair they've definantly had issues with PvP, but PvP was never going to be a major focus.)

Yeah...? FFXIV:ARR is one of the most polished MMOs to date. I wish there was anything subjective about this but it's true. The production pipeline for the game is bar-none. Speed and polish are not mutually exclusive as proven by SE time and time again, although you seem to have been brainwashed to believe such thing. SE goes back to fix initial design issues, so don't act like releasing content at a rapid pace and going back to fix old content can't be done simultaneously. WoW isn't any better in this regard; if anything, the bugs and balance issues are much more apparent. Raids broken for weeks at time is just the tip of the iceberg. WoD launch was a mess. Et cetera et cetera.
The simple fact is WoW can't do any better job (Garrisons are so amazing content for sure) but they do it at a snail's pace. You're right, a simple fact is WoW's PvP is better - but SE isn't going to improve it by sitting on their butts for a year. What takes WoW 2 years to release SE has implemented and fixed in half a year.
Your last point is hilarious. People play what's familiar, not what's superior. WoW may have been superior once; and that past glory is what keeps people bending over and taking it year after year. Players like you are conditioned to apologize for Blizzard's faults even when no apology is warranted. You can ask in any WoW forum whether they would go back to constant and meaty content patches or this sad excuse of dev support. I'm sure everyone is in favor of less content for marginal polish improvement and broken expansion launches. You definitely have the better end of the deal. Now, allow me to go cry myself to sleep because SE doesn't get everything right the first time unlike our lord and savior of polish, Blizzard.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
You're a WoW apologist that doesn't even play the game. Amazing.
It's a solid MMO just like XIV is, and I'd still be playing it if I weren't burned out on a decade old game. I may be an "apologist," but unlike you I am not blinded by fanboyism of the highest order and irrational disgust for a different game and the community based on patch cycles. This has been fun, but I see no point in continuing our little chat. Haters gonna hate and all that.

They are a bit touchy on that, i mean, just look at the title of the thread. Knowing WoW had 100 mil+ accounts created im not sure what exactly WoW has to watch out for? It surely aint number of accounts or subs so whats else is out there?
This thread should have been close as soon as it appeared.
The title is to blame for all the strife in this thread. Had it just been a discussion on how well SE supports FFXIV ARR it would not have gotten beyond a few posts. The only reason this thread is still generating interest from the few who argue back and forth is because it is WoW vs FFXIV ARR thread.
I myself love FFXIV ARR and think it is a very good game but there is no need to pit it against WoW to prove any point.
I think the OP never came back after dropping this bomb either if I'm not mistaken.
Don't know why you have such a hate on for FFXIV;ARR
Um, I don't? I've stated multiple times I think FFXIV is a great game is most respects. But it's combat engine is awful.
, but having played several of the games you listed, i don't really see how you can say their combat systems are better than that of FFXIV;ARR, i also disagree that the combat system is bad at all, i think the fact that the game is as popular as it is, is testament to the fact that the combat system, along with the rest of the game, is more than good enough
That's like saying that Destiny has a great storyline because lots of people play it. No, Destiny has lots of people play it because it's a good shooter and people play it IN SPITE OF it's poor storyline. If someone where to tell me that Destiny has a great storyline, I'd tell them they were full of crap... and that's basically what your telling me with FFXIV combat engine.
if you don't like it, thats fine, but that doesn't make it bad.
It's combat being bad is what makes it bad.
As for your comments about Destiny and Oblivion etc, hardly reinforces your arguments about FFXIV;ARR, so far you have stated that FFXIV;ARR combat is clunky, it isn't, and while it may not be quite as smooth as that in WoW, it does at least, handle it as well, if not better than games such as Tera, GW2, SW;TOR even, so you hate FFXIV;ARR, thats okay, nobody is forced into liking every game there is, but if your going to find fault with a game, at least use valid reasons, if you use the overly well used, its 'shit because i say so' then your argument will not be the only thing to lack credibility.
Don't start talking nonsense about how Tera or GW2 combat is more clunky than FFXIV and then question my credibility in the same sentence. Thehypocrisy is so thick you could cut it with a knife. Stop being a blatant fanboy. FFXIV is a good game that does a lot of things right, but be real about the fact that it's combat engine is awful.
Pay-to-play doesn't automatically equal better quantity or quality. Just look at WoW at the end of MoP. It took blizzard around 18 months to release WoD since it's last major patch in MoP.
FFXIV is the last major MMO to stay subscription, but that doesn't mean it's releasing good quality or more quantity than a B2P or F2P MMO. It's just your average MMO, with instanced zones and boring combat. Non-innovative to say the least.

In this case it does though. There isn't another MMO that has released this much this fast. The content is quality content too. The Golden Saucer content is beyond good and provides a ton of extra stuff to do besides combat.

It doesn't automatically, no. But in practice, it generally does. FFXIV and Eve Online put out better, larger, and more frequent content than any other games around, and they're both sub-based, which I don't think is a coincidence.

GW2 put out more content than those 2 and is B2P.
In paractice except EvE and Lineage 2 no game is worth a sub, especially when you know that FFXIV will also charge for expansion AND has a cash shop on top of all that, aka quadriple dipping box+sub+expansion+cash shop

No it didn't. Just take a look at FF14 has put out. GW2 is not even in the same ballpark. The two hours of mediocre story content and some skins every couple of weeks don't really add up to much.

I don't play ARR but one of my friends still does (has both a 11 and ARR account active). We discussed these updates this past weekend and this was his thoughts / concerns.
1. Pokemon in Final Fantasy sounded like fun too. How many people still participate in the pet battles in FF 11?
2. While I like the call back to FF7, I play MMORPG's to RPG with lots of people / friends. If I wanted to play Mario Kart.... I have a WiiU for that. Where's the new dungeons already?
Originally posted by zaberfangx What are the real number of FF14 anyone know? if they have 5K player per server on average, there hanging on 300 to 400K players maybe 500K on 64 server.
According to Square-Enix themselves just a while ago, they have *almost* 1 million players across all 3 of their mmos. That's not *almost* 1 million each, but *almost* 1 million altogether.
"This number, which marks a pretty massive jump from the 2.5 millionaccounts revealed at the end of last year, doesn't include accounts made for free trials of the game. We don't know how many of these are active, but it's clear interest in the game is growing at a substantial rate." taken from the ign link posted 26 FEB 2015 above.

Wow has 100 million+ registered accounts, 8 million are subsribers.

There is a large player base that likes mini-games. How are you going to criticize more things to do in a game? I know I get bored of nothing but combat, and it is fun to do these other activities as a distraction with friends.

FFXIV - based on what SE said as of the end of March 2014 - does (did) not have >1M subs.
It does have - based on what has recently been said - 4M+ registered accounts globally (so presumably includes China numbers). Registered accounts however are not subscribers; nor do registered accounts = sales now either.
SE said that as of March 2014 the number of subs for FFXI, FFXIV and DQ - collectively, were nearly1M.
People have speculated how many subs these games had last March - you can pick your own numbers but they have to add up to less than 1M.
If you want to assume that FFXI has 1 subscriber and DQ has 1 subscriber then - OK - you can assume that FFXIV has almost 1M. Given that FFXI is still popular and DQ is hugely popular in its own market however people have guessed at e.g. FFXIV @ 500k; DQ @ 350k FFXI @ 150k. Maybe its 400k for FFXIV, maybe it is 600k. We don't know but - as of last March - the number was <1M and we have heard nothing since. SE didn't say anything in November when they released their half-yearly results so maybe ..... we don't know.
Now if FFXIV still has e.g. 500k that wouldn't be a low number but nor would it be an earth shatteringly high number either.
I don't understand where this idea that FFXIV has a low population /popularity comes from. Has any one of you making that claim actually tried to log into this game recently? (And by "recently" I mean more recently than the released numbers from last year being thrown around and called "recently".)
Half the servers in the NA farm are closed off to new characters and all the Legacy servers STILL have log in queues every day.

FFXIV;ARR is popular, i don't think there can be any denying that, on Odin server i often have to queue for a few minutes when i login, in the evenings. I just have a problem myself with the 4 million figure, don't get me wrong i love the game and i'll be sticking with it for a long time yet, but, i really need to see those figures from SE that show the game is over 2m even
havent played since launch, coming back in a few days looking forward to seeing how much it has changed since. gold saucer was actually what grabbed my attention and decided to see how the game has grown
