Why does anyone actually get worked up enough about it to keep on challenging the numbers, like it matters to them?  Like the game, play it, don't like the game, don't play it, but seriously, why put so much energy into dissing a game you don't play just because others are enjoying it?

Someone wake me when they make an Elona or Cantha expansion please. You know an actual expansion that GW fans -BOTH- ONE AND TWO really want.

#2 in what?  I'd venture to guess SWTOR has a more revenue and more accounts.
SWTOR's infographic is significantly different in the information it presents. They cite 57 million characters created, and 1 million active players. If you frequent their forums and know about user IDs, they have 14 million accounts created. Food for thought.

The only stat they both share is hours played total by the entire playerbase, which is 635 million for SWTOR, versus the 1.4 billion for GW2. Keep in mind that the SWTOR infographic is from Nov 2014, but had a 9 month headstart on GW2 in terms of launch dates, so the timeframes are appropriately similar.
"which is 635 million for SWTOR, versus the 1.4 billion for GW2"

You hit the nail and take my "poster of the day" *hands a cookie*

    Unfortunately, people cant read.

And for those who are considering those 19m$ - those are just western numbers without China. China is buried in royalties.

If nothing else, GW2s fake numbers beat FFXIV fake numbers.

    That's something I guess!

GW2, still keeping haters interested 3 years later.  If you are proud that not many people post hate about your game, it's probably because nobody cares about the game. The mere fact that the haters are still here, and still posting proves that their own games are not worth talking about.

This observation doesn't really mean much.  This thread is an officially posted MMORPG column posted on the cusp of the game's 1st expansion and it's only 4 pages? I am not excited for this expansion at all. And I thoroughly enjoyed my time in GW2. I am no GW2 hater,  but this expansion looks disappointing.

That's right, when all else fails, pull the "WoW" card.

But uhh...... What exactly does WoW's declining popularity have to do with the new GW2 expansion?

I love infographics like this, but I am still not sold on the expac, nor ready to trust these devs again.  As pointed out above, do not mistake accounts for players, this number only gets included to mislead us (it seems like many devs have been bringing up total account numbers, wish they would just give us the real info).  Good luck ANet, I hope you made something special, gonna be keeping an eye here to see what people have to say.
how are they misleading anyone? They clearly said (if you read the post) 7 millions accounts created. Nothing misleading about that. If you choose to believe thats not what it says then thats your fault.

I only used WOW as an example since it's an immensely popular game. I see less than 2 threads for each of the top 5 games, but I see about 7 on guild wars.

You said that this thread has 4 pages, and implied that GW2 isn't as popular.

Well here you have it. 2 threads on FFXIV. 1 on TSW.

You do realize that this conversation started by drawing a connection to the games popularity and the posts it generates right?  To which I replied...."This observation doesn't really mean much." Then I pointed out the same thing about this thread that you just pointed out about WoW.  So....who's point are you actually arguing here?  Also, you are taking this out of context because WoW doesn't have anything major going on right now.

Keep in mind I never said GW2 wasn't popular. I said this expansion looks disappointing.

So far, the original point is that GW2 gets more discussion. You said this thread only has 4 pages. I said other games have even less threads in total.

So you really didn't argue anything. You just made an observation that did absolutely nothing to invalidate the other guys point.

Not only did your point serve nothing to invalidate the other guy's point, but it also says nothing about why GW2 is always leading the clicks list. The clicks list itself proves that the spotlight is always on GW2.

And FYI, WOW's newest expansion just got some press about 2 months ago, so it does have something going on.

    Edit:

"Keep in mind I never said GW2 wasn't popular. I said this expansion looks disappointing. "

Fair enough. Forget what I said before and let's just agree to disagree.

If it works for FF14 I'm sure GW2 can try it too just to sucker more people in with big numbers.

I'll spell it out for you.....
4 pages in an MMORPG.COM column on release day for a game's 1st expansion isn't very impressive at all. But that has nothing to do with the game......Only whos posting here. And yeah, I know the next reply.....Everyone's playing, no one's here posting. That's always a classic.

And BTW the "but WoW" argument is old.

Actually I wasn't going to make that statement. GW2 has always received hate on MMORPG. Why would that change now? It's pathetic because GW2 is quite different from traditional MMOs. Most of the people on this forum cannot even begin to comprehend how to do something besides click and kill.

They cannot for the life of them imagine that an MMO actually requires skills to be good at. That's why they say it sucks. That's why MMORPG.com forum users show so much hate to it. They want games like WOW.

I mean please name me another game that actually gets as much hate as GW2 and yet is still so successful? I'm willing to bet you can't find it.

4 pages of GW2 in MMORPG.com, the GW2 hater site, is not surprising at all. Go to reddit, and then see how much more discussion there is about GW2 than any other MMORPG sans WOW.

If you cannot accept that then here's some hard #'s.

    MMORPG Pub discussions - 57,000.

It has been up for 12 years.

AVG Discussion per year = 4800.

AVG Discussions per month = 400.

AVG discussions per day = 15.

OH WELL WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE? I rounded all those #'s up and still got an average discussion of 15 discussions per day. GW today had at least 5 discussions. That's 1/3rd of the discussion traffic for the day.

Math is fun isn't it? And thanks for "spelling" things out for me. It's so clear now.

You do realize that it counts discussions , wether Negative or Positive , and if you look at the first page of GW2 forum most are negative  , threads and responses ,   so not really a popularity contest as you may thinkj when the majority are pissin about Gw2 not praising it

Ye, and when you think about it a bit, with fact that GW2 is no.2 in the west since WoW, it just brings out the gap between WoW and everyone else.

So next time somene says that 6m wow players that quit wow went to other MMOs.....well, they didnt, maybe very very small %.

But, nevertheless, GW2 doing great 3 years after launch.
#2 in what?  I'd venture to guess SWTOR has a more revenue and more accounts.
    In mostly everything

You can venture all you want, but SWTOR hasnt been doing good. It did decent at launch, somewhat decent at F2P launch but have been dwindling ever since. This year, up to expansion, has been THE most dry year for SWTOR, and 2014, except for small SoR window wasnt much better. 2013 saw a bump with GSF, but that was VERY short lived due to great dissapointment in GSF.

    http://www.torstatus.net/shards/eu/trends

The only reason you these small red bumps if because of free transfres and everyone transfered to few populated servers.

SWTOR will depend wheter people will continue to sub for monthly story updates. I hope they will and we get more juicy updates in the future, but still dont hold my breath.

I'd also put money on SWTOR having more revenue and accounts, but boogiewoogiebugleboy here seems pretty set in his contention.

I don't think I've ever agreed with you more than on this.

The headline of this thread is actually deceptive. "Accounts created" does not equate to number of players, especially active players in this expansion. Anet is not being deceptive. But whoever wrote the title for this thread is, even though it may be inadvertent.

True enough but dare I say that out of the subs WOW claims how many of them actually play the game?  But hands down GW2 is the best mmorpg ever created.  If you haven't found a game better then WOW by now.  In your eyes there never will be one.
Are you onto something or just on something?
