If it was just because WOW was succesful, it wouldn't be an issue. People compare games like AoC and Warhammer to WOW in... unflattering ways. Both of them are quite unique, and are definately NOT a clone of Blizzard's game.

    It's all just speculations anyways.

How can you effectively compare two games that haven't been released yet?

And you shall have the protection of all the angels in Heaven."

Wikipedia only the greatest thing ever for information about anything.

The first edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battles was released by Games Workshop in early 1983.

Warcraft: Orcs & Humans is a real-time strategy computer game developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment in 1994.

Warhammer predates Warcraft by 11 years also another thing is Warcraft is a obvious rip off from Warhammer!! The Helm of Might is an copied off the Ork Chin Armor. Copyright infringement much? If you wanna know even more just check out Warhammer 40k (1987) and Starcraft (1998). Blizzard's only original idea Diablo, but i could be wrong. Anyways I'm getting off topic and thinks AoC is gonna be the one to taking home the trophy. i think i've seen enough dwarves and orcs this decade, but that's just me.

I think the main reason for people comparing WOW with WAR, is WAR is more or less just a WOW clone.Realesed after Warcraft. the graphic are almost identical, there are 2 big opposing fractions and both are fantasy based.

For those who like WOW don´t feel attacked! i played it myself for over 1 year until I lost intresst

For those who like WAR don´t feel attacked! i was looking forward to a warhammer game.I am a big warhammer fan, collecting all the novels (fantasy and 40k), but as i saw a ingame video on one of the fan-sites i thought " This looks familiar!Didn`t i play something like that for over 1 year?"

But AOC is in my opinion something new.realistic graphics, new and very interesting combat system and ... well .... it is based in Robert E. Howard`s world of Conan !!!

And hey, i grew up with conan comics, conan books and our beloved austrian "gouvernator" Arnie playing the role.i even watched the conan tv-series with Ralf Möller(which was sacked after a short time... thank god). And now I will have the possibility to walk up and meet the hero of my childhood(a figure of litrature born in 1932) in digital flesh and blood.

But to get back to the actual topic:

WAR may have a new PvP system but is more or less a WOW spinn-off.

AoC has a new combat system in a non comic world.

Everyone has to make his/her own choice, and i´ve made mine.

    I choose AoC

If you play AoC (i was playing it since beta + release, around 5 months) you will see that PvP does not exists.

Nowadays you have some PvP servers, with different rules (factions by races, ffa, rol, etc) but the only motivation is to kill and be killed. Is like an old FPS, no rewards, no motivations, no loot, no zones to conquer.... so why would you connect to PvP in AoC?

When i bought the game i was expecting what adds claim, official page, interviews, etc plus my own imagination. But the real thing is: Age of Conan does not have PvP, at least it will not be this year.

They are working (since first day of release, not before i am sure) on making a no-killers PvP system, so similar to the begginings of Lineage 2 (if you kill you will be flagged and you have more posibilities to drop when you die), if you get killed nothing happens (just a minor PvP exp loss).

At last, War (i played beta for around 8 months) have some mechanics to make PvP more interesting.

Its true, AoC have a different combat system, but you will see, if you play first week (necesary to reach lvl 80) that is always the same keys spam than in other games.

    MMORPGs played:
UO, Lineage2, Eve, SWG, CoH/CoV, AoC

Warhammer was better by far day 1 of beta then AoC is today.

No, it's not. There was no "Warhammer series" when the first Warcraft game was released in '94--the first Warhammer game didn't hit until the following year, and was as big a flop as Warcraft: Orcs &Humans had been a success.

True, there were Warhammer tabletop games, starting in the early eighties, but they're not startlingly original, either--a combination of previous military sims using miniatures and dashes of D&D and Tolkien.

At any rate, there's never been a Warhammer MMORPG before, WoW's been out for three years, now, and if the upcoming Warhammer MMORPG looks and acts a lot like WoW, it's because it's imitative of Blizzard's game. Any other suggestion is absurd.

Personally, I'm reserving judgement until I get to play it, or at least hear from some people who have.

There might not have been a Warhammer MMORPG before WoW, but there definitely was a pen & paper RPG because I used to own it & wish I had kept it now rather than giving it away as a present along with all my old issues of White Dwarf about 10 years ago.

The Warhammer universe & it's characteristic humourous style have been around for a very long time.

If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?

AoC has better raiding/PvE options if you are into that. However they need to first sort the bugs in raiding encounters, but in the long term AoC would be better.

    AoC cons vs. Warhammer

    - Graphics and sound (Warhammer sound effects suck)

    - Having the advantage of being released 3.5 months before (more fixes)

    - Destiny quests

    - Combat system

    - Mounted combat

    - 24 men instances for PvE

    - lvl 1-20 Tortage with voice embedded quests, good storyline

    Warhammer cons vs. AoC

    - RvR

    - Working PvP XP/ranks

    - Scenarios (really good implemented)

    - Realm proud

    - Public Quests

    - Less bugs when released, minimal lag (because of the graphics requirements)

    - Class balances

    - No one shotting

    - End game content

    - No grinding through leveling, tons of things to do

    - Stats working, gear is meaningful

Age of Conan is FFA, that's pretty different from WAR which has factions.

  • ReklawReklaw Member UncommonPosts: 6,495

Try/Test/Play both, if you enjoy them both try playing them both( when/if possible), if you enjoy only one of them keep playing the one you already enjoy, don't enjoy any of them simply stop playing them, it's sooooo easy.

There Is No VS. there should only be MORE

Oh my, WarHammer is a lot of fun. This is one game that can compete with WoW, and its more casual player friendly than WoW is as well.  AoC isn't even in the same universe with WAR.

There is no comparison between these two titles......

  • mezlabormezlabor Member Posts: 133

I havent played warhammer beta, havent been that interested and still am not at all interested in warhammer. But I seriously doubt it could be worse then Age Of Conan in any regard. It might be but they would have to actually TRY to make it worse then Age of Conan is now.

I was really eager about AoC since last 3 years, is a funny game for three months before you get bored of it. If it was a Single Player game i will not be bitter about it.

Sadly WAR will come out as a unfinished product. So have fun with WAR :)

I will probably play AoC and WAR both... Not so sure WAR can hold my interest though because the combat in the game just plain sucks.
