...and for those that haven't been keeping up thrones of chaos is the latest incarnation of Mourning, not sure if this is the 4th or 5th attempt to actually put a product out there but anyone that has followed MMO's for a while knows to stay away.

And who doesn't know about Anarchy Online and what it has turned into.

Yeah it was horrible at launch, but they actually brought it back from the dead.  (I think a new dev team did)  And now there's a new set of monkeys coding this.

AoC will turn out to be more then a "lil niche" game.

Don't bother, Nero666/Necro666 has been jibing at this game for a while now using... less than credible statements and atrocious english, he responds to reason with derision. Funny, I would have thought he'd have been banned by now, he's caused enough trouble

Jeesh, this thread was so meant to stir things up. :P  It's like a my dad vs. your dad fight in kindergarten.

Simply put though, I'll be trying out both myself.  They look fun in their own ways, and I really want to see how well the controlled combat of AoC works.

I am all inn for AoC!

The reason is the new combat system.

I think that FC is brave who are willing to try to make the MMO genre to a new level. Where combat is fougth with skills and not by a dize.

I am tired of MMO's where you fight and hope for a dize to roll a block, or a crit to be able to win a fight..

And I also are tired of Gear>skill!

The devs behind AoC are always saing it will be Skill>Gear.

They have also come up with a nice way to handle one shots. I hate when a high level player one shoot me.

In AoC you will be "tier-leveled" up to your attackers level. Therefore making you have the same amount of Mana, HP etc as the attacker. That gives you a opportunity to fight back, or run away.

My question is Which one has bigger battles.  And I'm all for AoC.  It looks so good where as Warhammer as much of u said looks like WoW  plays like WoW nothing new to it.  I mean no offense but it looks like a piece of flaming poo..  I just really want to see Epic battles in AoC.  I dont want them to say EPIC BATTLES EPIC BATTLES then turn out its like 100vs100 which is actually not that bad but its not epic....at all....in fact....thats like nothing but good for tech today :)

If you are just looking at epic combat, Mythic has delivered in the past, but FC has more experence with innovation(and has hopefully learned from their mistakes). These will both be good games...gonna be hard to choose.

I don't know about Warhammer, but the AoC devs definately have the software and experience to do it. They could have done it in Anarchy Online, if it wasnt for the basic game mechanics. And that technology is five years old.

Funcom, the developers of AoC, want to make PvP in AoC completley consensual. They will have complete open PvP servers open later, after release, but as of right now it ALL PvP will be zone based. Meaning you cannot attack that person or siege that castle or keep unless it is in what they call the Border Kingdoms, which are zoned areas on the map. No word on how big these areas will be in comparison to the rest of the map.

Im not sure exactly how  WH PvP will be, will it be completely open PvP, zone based, or flagged?

wow im surprized nobody brought up that you can have drunken bar fights in AoC......COME ON PPL, drunken bar fights!!! AoC ftw

  • OronweOronwe Member Posts: 23
ye, as i read over that thingy with bars n chairlegs to beat down on yer drunken fellas, i think it sounds like fun....otherwise when its a realtime combat-system it might be that when drunk you might screw up the corntrols and dont hit the way it would be when yer clean...

The Combat-Video from AoC kinda looked not that good to me....there were like 3(?) different swings and i for myself would be bored after i rammed up my sword in a holding man....on the other hand the guy played like he was 5 mins before in a bar and had to many drinks, so just to tell sth. from that crappy video about combat isnt the thing...

The graphics on AoC look awesome, pretty nice through the fact i´m more into the non-comic-looking games...that would be the major plus COnana has against WAR for me...

The content of both makes me interested in testing the betas of both games, the area-based Quests from War promise to be real entertaining like getting somewhere where a couple of guys doing a quest and right now at that point i´m sharing that....nice idea..

The physics of both games compared look to me as AoC has more to give, like a riding character, leaning to the right when riding that way...but i wonder about one thing...when its realtime combat where you have to put yer swing into the right place, what when you missclick and accidently decapacitate your own horsey? i mean thats what normally would happen :)

I think I know the video your talking about, there are 6 basic swings usable, with advanced combos and other moves available. The guy in the vid was just screwing around with the enemy. If you notice, his health bar never moved, his was a GM tricked out character, he could afford to take his time.

As far as horse combat goes, I would imagine the combat switches over to a modified version. For example, the button to take a diagonal swing at the enemies right shoulder now causes you to swing your weapon in low along your mount's right side. Leaving the system as would make anything but polearms worse than useless

ya...i guess that in early stages of the game or on conferenves like e3 the chars are mostly like in "godmode" ....but the swings just didnt look like they would be finished up...i think we´ll be seeing more and better stances in the next months....i for myself just hope that the combatsystem doesnt impelment mousemoves to swing yer sword right...there was once a splatter game where you only could swing the sword through mouse-movement....that feared me off in some ways ^^

Numpad keys controll the swings, unless you choose to change that in the interface options of course.

1* WAR is clearly PvP-oriented but the game seems to mix PvP and PvE very well, which is the primary strength of this game.

2* AoC uses a more classical approach on how PvP and PvE work with each other. But it introduces a new kind of fighting (numpad weapon swinging, stances ...).

-> I don't think the two games can actually be compared. They are made for players with totally different desires.

As for my personal opinion (i was aiming to be objective above ;)). Even if I'm more interested in WAR at the moment, I'll definitely try AoC too. The weapon swinging reminds me of a FPS game I worked on a couple of years ago :) (though it used a physics engine and mouse movements for the swings) and if the swings chain smoothly, this will definitely be enjoyable :)

    Waiting for: GW2

Now In my Opinon I think PvP is gonna be a little more important and more fun.  But, WAR feels very similar to WoW which I did not really fall in love with lol.  As for the 6 basic swings I think/hope throughout time they will upgrade so there are more moves.  Plus I think/hope again they will have a lot of moves weather it be advanced or not.

I think i know what game you're talking about, where you could only swing sword by moving the mouse (left click+hold and move mouse around to swing). Wasn't it Die by the sword? a kind of fantasy hack n' slash type of game with some deathmatch type of fights? it was kind of fun for its day  ,because it was one of the first games to feature the chopping off of limbs on players.

Although when it got to the point where you were jumping around on one leg and swinging with your only arm,and other players respawn with 2 legs and 2 arms

AOC will not have to worry about WAR as its not the same kind of game.WOW is a free roaming MMORPG which has no World PVP and is a PVE raiding grind fiest.WAR will be in direct competition with WOW and properly do it better at PVP-RVR than Blizzard could ever hope for.

AOC has a more direct threat in the shape of G&D(Gods&Heroes). This game is a MMORPG with ground breaking ideas, from Siege`s to Minions plus set in a world we can all relate to.Have you ever watched Jason And The Argonauts or wonder what it would be like to  follow an Ancient god and be rewarded for it.

Its a two horse race for me..

1 AOC looks great and has some good ideas but cant help thinking it will run on the same lines as GW,not really being a MMORPG.

2 G&H Rome and all its treasures await, mythical creatures, politics, the Colosseum, and the lands across the Mediterranean ie EYGPT,Greece and Mighty Carthage all awaiting brave adventurers.

Both these games have PVP G&H properly having more...
