We can, and we do. Then again, I think I speak for the majority of frequent readers, posters, and contributors to this comminity in saying that the awards under consideration are the MMORPG.com Reader's Choice Awards. What this implies to me is that those who are part of this community are granted, once a year, to recognize excellence in multiplayer gaming.
As a new member AramisCEO, with one post, you are given a great opportunity here, as a member of mycommunity, to recognize excellence with us as fans of the genre generally, talking to gamers from all games, and all tastes, in the spirit of fellowship, and to promote higher standards and quality gameplay for all gamers.
I can see from your various statements on your sig, and in your post, that you find most MMO games, and most MMO gamers, to be lacking in quality, and sophistication, compared with EVE. In fact, you go so far as to say, "feel free to not play Eve. It's obviously too much of a challenge for you. But do not impune it because you have a case of "sour grapes" (and in case you are ignorant, thats a reference to one of Aesop's tales, assuming you bother to read books!)"
Thank you, sir, for coming to this site that has been talking about games long before EVE was even released, and insulting us. It really shows, Mr. one post AramisCEO, what the EVE community thinks about this site, and these readers, for this Reader's Choice Award you came here to support.
No, I do not have sour grapes, Mr. AramisCEO. What I do have is a serious problem with the community management at CCP, and in EVE, with regard to this blog:
Tell your community manager, Mr. Kieron, to take it back. You see, in all the fanaticism, and rallying around the EVE fanbase, the EVE management forgot one, very important thing:
It is not Kieron's, "enthusiastic and supportive," EVE community, AramisCEO, that determines the MMORPG.com Reader's Choice Awards. It is my community, the community of MMORPG.com, that determines the awards. And while I'm sure that the staff here welcomes all of those who enjoy EVE Online to become a member of this community at MMORPG.com, and even vote for EVE, I'd hope, for the sake of our hosts, that your community, and your community's management, show respect for the community here, my community, who plays EVE, and a myriad of other games, many of which are good in their own right.
Yet I'm sure that this is the last we'll hear of you. You see, why the heck would you want to hang out here, with the cheat coders, and the morons? Worst of all, why would you, or EVE for that matter, want an award from a gaming fansite that harbors gamers who are cheating morons, playing button mashing games, who are not "brilliant enough to grasp" EVE?
It just goes to show that EVE, CCP, Kieron, and you all sure like our awards, but do not respect the community the awards come from.

OK, disclaimer first: I only got about half way through the second page and stopped reading becuase it all seemed to become a circular arguement, so if what i post was already posted and ignored, then I guess you all can ignore mine as well and go on in your dancing.
My understanding of the problems some members here have with the methods CCP has taken to gain votes on the site, is due to the nature of the vote/aard itself. It's a Reader's Choice Award, meaning it was chosen by the readers (ie. regular members/user of the site). What CCP is doing is causign people to come, register, vote for EVE and then the majority of them will never visit the site again until another vote time comes around. It's basically negating the nature of the what the vote is supposed to be - a choice made by the people who regularly visit the site.
I played EVE for two years following it's release, and was in the closed beta for the game from the second invitations. I enjoyed the game, and even recently had re-activated my accounts and played for a couple months again - so I have nothing against the game itself. But I do lean towards agreeign that the methods CCP has used to gain more votes here is against the nature of what the vote is supposed to represent. As such, I think it would bo good for MMORPG.com to put stronger restrictions on new accounts and their abilities to vote for awards such as this, but it's really not likely to happen.
Anyway, that's just my take on it - agree with it, disagree with it, or even just ignore it - just thought I'd put it out there.

If that's the issue, then what should be the case here is what is done in political elections or shareholder elections: namely, you have a cut off date (in this case probably on the day that the contest is announced) such that only people who are registered prior to that date are eligible to vote. This rule exists in shareholder elections and political elections to prevent the kind of ballot box stuffing that is being worried about here. I'd suggest this kind of a system to alleviate these concerns.

The results of the vote are skewed because there is a sticky post on the EVE forums telling people that there is a vote happening at MMORPG.com. Furthermore, the only reason EVE wins is because "EVE fanbois" come to deliberately vote for EVE, and the only people that vote for EVE are EVE fanbois because clearly it's impossible to just think that game is the best one.
Expanding further on the EVE forums sticky, opponents of EVE say that this is wrong because a game should win an honor based on its merit, and that this sticky post somehow detracts from that goal. I believe an example of an instructor telling kids to vote for him as instructer of the year was used as an analogy. This argument reminds me that I've been meaning to write my congressman to tell him to revoke the right to wear "Vote Democrat" or "Vote Republican" buttons and to try and get a ban on political bumperstickers passed. I really hate it when people advocate their own viewpoint. The only reason the Democrats won the mid-term elections was because a bunch of "Dem fanbois" registered to vote, just so they could vote for their party. I mean we all know people that care about anything are clearly just "fanbois" that have been blinded. Plus, not all of the political parties put up posters telling their people to go vote, so obviously those that did are just obssessed with winning, and aren't really that good. Like the instructor analogy shows, the best way to go about this is to not let anyone inform anyone else that a vote is going on, and see what happens. I'd continue but I'm late for a book burning...
There might be a bit of sarcasm in there somewhere.

I vote for eve in some catagories because I believe it deserves them in such catagories. Anyone can make a game thats a very similiar game to everquest. Its almost like how EA publishes a new sports game every year. If you dont want Eve to win, then vote against it. If you dont think these awards matter, your right they dont matter that often. However when push comes to shove it shows who has the most community support. Which I personally think is quite a big thing.

umm *clears throat*.
Who cares about ratings, who cares if they are artificial or not. Guild wars is the highest ranked game or the 2nd, it doesn't mean that ME, MYSELF, and IAN will like it. The game that will always have the highest rating is the current game that someone is enjoying. A few months ago L2 was my highest ranked MMO, i assume in a month it will be EVE as i'm getting into EVE.
The point is, who cares about ratings, who cares about those who defend their game, just know that the best gmae is the one you enjoy the most. Truthfully, I probably enjoyed Diablo 2 more than any other game i've played. I've never been hooked to another game as i was hooked to diablo 2.
Another thing i want to convey, is i hate people who say a game sucks just because they don't like it. I played WoW, i quit after 2.5 months, do i think the game sucks, NOOOOOO, it's a great game, just not my cup of tea. I played Lineage 2, for 6 months, i quit, does the game suck, not really, but i just got bored of it. Now i'm on to EVE.
The thing is, what i've found so far from L2, EVE (in my nice 3 days on trial here lmao), and WoW is that they are not broken games. A game that truly sucks is a game that has a broken feature that makes people just hate the game that ruins their experience. I don't think either of the games above have that, with perhaps the exception of L2 and the exogenous bots.
So anyway, who cares.

But again to me it comes down to what the companies see as good pub for their game audience.
Blizzard, for example, surely did encourage everyone to watch its South Park episode (right on the front page of WoW's site) because it knew that doing so would expose a lot of non-gamers who happen to be in the gamer's family/dorm/cirecle of friends, etc. to take a look at WoW. Free marketing, and also boosted the ratings for South Park "unfairly" or "artificially". If Blizzard thought that winning the competition here would help bring significant subs to WoW, you bet they would be hawking it on the WoW homepage. They just don't think it's worthwhile (and they're probably right). On the other hand, noone is ever going to make a South Park episode about EVE, now, are they?
I don't see how it is CCP's problem that MMORPG.COM doesn't have a way of regulating its votes. If it's am open vote system, of course it's subject to all kinds of ballot box stuffing. If there are issues about that, then lobby this site to change its rules, but don't blame CCP for trying to get positive publicity from a place where it thinks it can draw potential customers.
The only thing I'm blaming CCP for is that it will now receive awards in area's it doesn't even deserve them. Awards should not be seens as a publicity stunts. they should be considered prizes. these awards should be given away by the mmorpg.com community, and not by the EVE online community. that is my opinion.

In which areas specifiically do you not think it deserves them?
Yes, EVE's incredibly huge millions of users are going to skew the awards with their voting power because they're such a huge bloc of the MMO community.
Puh-Lease
EVE doesn't win because it's users see a post on the site and go vote... doesn't have a big enough population for that.

FYI: It's not just CCP you know, on the RFO site Codemasters are trying to eurge their players to vote also (i'm pritty sure they're doing the same on the DDO front too), I've seen 'vote for X game' topics in their repective sites elsewhere also...
Basically IMO this plot to make EVE win is just an excuse to grief EVE, you can't stop anyone from voting the game they prefer, if you don't want EVE to win then VOTE for your repective games and urge others to vote yourself, quit whining about it thats not going to get you anywhere

Best game, best PVE and Best storyline. I also don't think it deserves it for best PVP and best graphics, but I can live with that, since EVE has some pretty good PVP and some very nice graphics, but I don't think its the best on either of those.

I also don't think it deserves it for best PVP and best graphics, but I can live with that, since EVE has some pretty good PVP and some very nice graphics, but I don't think its the best on either of those. I agree if EVE win best PVE there is something very wrong. I don't agree on the Best story. The eve world actually have a story that moves forward (woe a bit slow lately but has just started to pick up speed again) something most other mmorpgs lack. It also have a huge amount of background story which in my opinion holds very high quality. But I am biased, not as a eve fan but as a sci-fi fan, I have a hard time finding fantasy stories interesting and I think it's similar but opposite of others, they like fantasy stories but not sci-fi.
Best game, well that's the most subjective category of them all, there can't be an deserving or undeserving winner in that category as the only thing that should matter in this category is the personal feelings of the voters. Any game that win this category is deserving by the fact that it won, something that I can agree does not hold true for the other categories.

I would agree it definitely doesn't deserve PVE, which is why I voted EQ2 in that category, but the background fiction is top notch and combined with the story of the PLAYERS is excellent.
As far as best PVP, I've see L2 PVP and while the castle sieges are cool they are still for pre-built castles in static locations, like the original forts in DAoC frontiers. Everything ping-pongs back and forth and nobody ever accomplishes anything, the world is never really affected by the conflicts. That's why I feel the PVP in EVE is better, besides the tactical and logistics nature of it all. With the graphics it's not so much the detail or quality of the graphics so much as the atmosphere. Just like WoW's graphics are good in that they're very colourful and stylized.

Who says you have to play WoW to give a rating to WoW?
What are you implying? I dont get your point. You dont have to play wow to give a rating to wow, but neither do you have to play eve to give a rating to eve... so it all evens out right? It would kind of make sense to have played the game before you rate it, but I guess someone could just rate the game out of spite or for whatever reason you are getting at. I suppose the average Evil EVEboi could rate WOW all 1's to push their game to the top. But the same could be said for Wowiots. or are Wow players better people? lol. I think not.
Indeedl but the diffrence is that WoW players don't get asked to vote for their game, where EVE players DO get asked to vote for the game.

Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!

Best game, best PVE and Best storyline. I also don't think it deserves it for best PVP and best graphics, but I can live with that, since EVE has some pretty good PVP and some very nice graphics, but I don't think its the best on either of those.
I figured it out: EVE is rated high here because the game is so boring they have nothing better to do.

Just like WoW's graphics are good in that they're very colourful and stylized.
everything i love about eve, although its pve is extremely poor (except for the events)
Talk about beating a dead Horse Just goes to show the support we can get from the eve's devs. And just goes to show the lack of suport from other games it seems.
If the "eve-fanbois" are a spitten image of you sir, then thank you for giving me a reason never to try this game ever. Must have the worst community out of all the mmo's if the fans are anything like you. Not only do you points make little sense but they are bias, untrue and generally idiodic.

if you are letting 1 idiot sway your opinion about an entire game, then you aren't the sharpest tool in the shed. It would be like if i refused to try wow because i heard of the barrens chat (or whatever it is called)
