This game is WoW in space. No Swimming. No dynamic events. No open world PvP. No new ideas.
Only thing going for it is irritating quest text / voice overs that I skipped in WoW, because I just want to get to the action.
If you are complaining about swimming form purely aspect of immersion then i would like to ask that do you take off your armor everytime you have to swim in MMOS? because swimming effortlessly in all that armor which would sink you otherwise or make swimming just down right difficult.. is the real immersion breaker.
I assume he has sex with his clothes/armor on as well.

I might (undecided atm) bother with this game because its a Bioware rpg and on top of that Star Wars. I dont expect a long stay in this game if I decide to play it (for some reason I never roll an alt in Bioware games), but I probably would enjoy it while it lasts. It doesnt have to be innovative to be enjoyable imo.
I do think it could be made a lot more interesting for me, but Bioware decided to go with this, so I cant do anything about it anymore.
WoW in space is not enough to make me hooked, since im finished with that game. Next MMORPG have to bring something more.
Anyhow, you're missing the point i think - It has lightsabers. You seriously do not understand how cool this. The combat may be absolutely terrible, but it's still awesome because it has lightsabers. (Just to be clear: i'm not being sarcastic here, this was my actual experience - the very idea of killing stuff with a lightsaber was what made it entertaining).
The alignment system may be complete crap, but hey, at least you get to tell the NPC to stfu in-character.
(bla bla)
It has RvR lakes, a more interesting crafting system, a more entertaining questing system and... ah, what the hell, why am I even bothering. It's obvious that you're determined to dislike SWTOR because it's just a themepark MMO and not the dream Star Wars MMO according to your own personal specs that you'd wanted it to be
I don't know what RvR lakes are, it sounds like a PvP thing and since i don't PvP, i don't really care.
Agree 100% on the crafting system. It's excellent. I usually hate crafting but actually enjoyed in TOR.
Having a good combat system has nothing to do with being a themepark. There are tons of themeparks (well actually, pretty much ALL themeparks) that have better combat systems. DCUO is virtually the exact same game as TOR (themepark, great voice acting, etc), just with a better combat system.
Am i disappointed that the game wasn't build with a different design? Sure. But that doesn't mean that I can't evaluate the game for what it is.
SWTOR is about story, right? Ok, so i can dig that, however if i were to objectively evaluate the story, the story is pretty bad and doesn't make sense a lot of the time (can't be specific due to NDA, pm if interested, i have tons of examples that i had submitted as my beta feedback). This has nothign to do with sandbox. Even from a 100% themepark, 100% single-player perspective, it still has massive problems.
TOR has a crafting system? ok, i can dig that - see above.
TOR has a combat system - it's bad. Has nothign to with being themepark. see above.
TOR has an alignment system based on the jedi dark/light philosophy - it's downright awful and makes no sense 90% of the time if you stop to actually think about it. Again, nothing to do with being a themepark. Nothing to do with comparison to any other MMOs even. It's a great idea, but terribly executed.
But, despite all this, the fact taht i'm a huge star wars fan still makes me want to play it. BEcause even if it's bad, i'm still a jedi running around coruscant with a lightsaber. Which was my point above. Most people consider Star Wars Rebellion one of the worst SW ip titles ever, yet i loved it. I got to recruit Admiral Thrawn and send massive fleets on star destroyers into battle - awesome!
You assume that the only reason people may not like TOR is because it's not a sandbox. The fact is that it has massive problems even as a themepark. Most of which are overcome by the IP. If this game was not star wars and people like me didn't get a hard-on from just seeing a lightsaber, then it would be in deep bantha poodoo. Perhaps you should stop assuming that everyone just gave up on the game because it's not sandbox and actually read their comments.

I never understood the fanbois and haters attitude,i sort of saw it emerge on You Tube as people get down right nasty defending THEIR music or attacking music they dislike or whatever. To me Star Wars is VERY old, done already in oh so many ways, seen all the movies including the orignal at a Drive -in.
Corrected it for you. If you don't think that haters/bashers can be as nasty or worse than fanbois, you should visit videos of Justin Bieber (Mistletoe is a good one), Selena Gomez or Lady Gaga, and you'll see how truly vicious people can be when they like to spend their free time posting hate comments on youtube of videos they dislike.
What I personally never could understand is that people like to hang around subjects they hate and dislike, whether that's specific games or music videos, more than they like to hang around and discuss the things they do enjoy. Unless if it's for trolling of course, or just because they're bored and bashing on YT videos they dislike seems more fun than commenting on YT videos they like and enjoy.

If they had not pissed away the potential this game had with poor game play and horrible balance. Swtor would have competed with wow easily for subscription numbers.
Now with only decent story and vo going for them after a few months they will be just barely be over rift in numbers. While still considered successful, that is still a pale shadow of what they could have been.
I've seen many video's of this game.. but don't see any new things in it..
Why are people so excited of this game? to me its just an tab target quest from a to b game?
I predict this game will end up the same as rift..
The real question is... Why Arent people excited for this game? and if you have No desire to play this game.. why even post about it?

I think it's basically because of people's inability to understand that other people can like and enjoy things that they themselves can't. Some might even go further, some might truly hate and dislike it if other people are having fun in a game while they haven't. It's not just with MMORPG's and the MMO scene that you see that kind of attitude, in a lot of other scenes too.

That doesn't mean that I don't still find it mindbaffling that there are people who truly have trouble grasping that other people might actually enjoy things that they themselves can't. I'd say that's a clear lack of empathy and social experience - or maybe intellectual laziness - in most cases.

True, but RvR lakes, decision based questing, enhanced crafting in the form of Crew Skills, cover system, a scifi setting, Companions, flexible grouping, Huttball, objectives based open world PvP and factional benefits to name some things might.
At least, to people who don't consider all themepark MMO's to be the same game.

I don't find them worse than all the peeps who posted here way before the first beta, claiming how good this game is, etc. Haters and no-sayers are good for providing healthy debates, instead of mindless praise, so I do actually appreciate them here.
And btw, I'm not a hater myself. Haven't tried the game yet, and don't know very much about it. Got a beta key from this site today, so I'll see for myself soon, though.
when did MMOs become about some story that some random writer is telling the player. thats what single player games are for. MMOs should be about you creating your own story for your character maybe not in a literal sense but more of what your actions are in game and im not just talking about sandbox games. in EQ i didn't have a writer telling me MY CHARACTERs story, same in DAOC nor EQ2.
so why is it so important to the players in SWTOR, especially since your character has the same exact story as EVERY OTHER character in your chosen class.
I've seen many video's of this game.. but don't see any new things in it..
Why are people so excited of this game? to me its just an tab target quest from a to b game?

Your prediction is 100% correct.
For his prediction to be 100% correct SWTOR has to release and then flop but since none of it has happened i have no idea how his prediction can be true. Or you have your own meaning of word 'prediction'?.
*rolls eyes*
Maybe he means its going to be the 2nd most populated/successful MMO after WoW? Because no game will ever come close to those numbers again.
Yes that is exactly what is means, Thanks Derros. People should stop overreacting so much, chill out, or stop drinking so much coffee ;-) lol
when did MMOs become about some story that some random(?) writer is telling the player. thats what single player games are for.
Says who? by the way, I hope you're not one of those folks who are demanding a "different, unique" MMO experience, since you seem quick to demand what should or shouldn't be in an MMO...
MMOs should be about you creating your own story for your character maybe not in a literal sense but more of what your actions are in game and im not just talking about sandbox games. in EQ i didn't have a writer telling me MY CHARACTERs story, same in DAOC nor EQ2.
Then this isn't the game for you, as you can't seem to appreciate a world that puts you in a scenario in which you can define your character, or use your imagination to develop unique motivations and ambition for said character in the wake of the scenario that's unfolding. Nothing wrong with that.
so why is it so important to the players in SWTOR, especially since your character has the same exact story as EVERY OTHER character in your chosen class.
That's a fair enough question. Like many other games, or moreso, really, since you have your ship, you CAN choose to leave the linear path of the story at, say, level 15, fly your ship to the highest level planet, and attempt to sneak past the ultra-purple baddies to seek out the hidden chrons. Or just hang out in the Cantina. Whatever. You can hang out in a similar level scavenger camp or house, blasting scavs away whenever they appear, yelling: My house! Go get your own!"
This binary thinking, really has got to stop. "there are linear missions. That means I can't go do whatever I want to." All you need is a bit of imagination.
I've seen many video's of this game.. but don't see any new things in it..
If you can't see what is new, I would direct you towards SWTOR.com and you can research for yourself.
Beacuse I assume you won't - so here are some of the new things in SW:TOR no one else has done before in a MMO-
1. Actual story that reaches across the entire game from the start
2. Voice overs for everything
3. Multiplayer conversations
4. Conversation choices that effect story outcome and alignment
5. Non GCW/movies Star Wars time line and setting
6. Space battles mini-game
7. Companion based crafting
8. Companion romance options
9. Item enhancement system to make old items relevenant and upgrade in power to match drops (might have been done before not 100% sure)
10. Personal, upgradable starship that also functions as housing AND transportation, and allows other players to access.
11. Cover and roll to cover mechanics.
Those are just off the top of my head. Troll fail - if you don't like the game fine but don't be ignorant to the additions and changes this game is bringing to the genre.

Why does a new mmorpg has to have new things?
And how can an mmorpg have new things without becoming something else then an mmorpg?
What do you want it to have that is considered new?
--control your char and skills with your mind?
--have a plastic lightsaber in your hand connected to the pc and a treadmill to simulate running?
--do you want to stay in a chair and have all npcs in the game go up to you and offer you quests and you pay for them to do them?
FPS game dont have new things for more then a decade, and its working fine...have a gun? check
have an fps view? check
kill other players with a gun? check
same as mmorpgs..they are and will be the same for many many years to come, unless they become something else then mmorpgs.

Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
I'm sorry, you lost me after "LOL". Anytime you start with that, surely the remainder is just drivel.
WoW xpac, what? What are you going on about?
I don't find them worse than all the peeps who posted here way before the first beta, claiming how good this game is, etc. Haters and no-sayers are good for providing healthy debates, instead of mindless praise, so I do actually appreciate them here.
And btw, I'm not a hater myself. Haven't tried the game yet, and don't know very much about it. Got a beta key from this site today, so I'll see for myself soon, though.
the story
the story
omg the story
when did MMOs become about some story that some random writer is telling the player. thats what single player games are for.
Yes that is exactly what is means, Thanks Derros. People should stop overreacting so much, chill out, or stop drinking so much coffee ;-) lol
hmmm, well, tell me about something you love and I will attempt to tell you why it's not new.
There is very little out there that is "new". However, one might find familiar things that are done in a "new way".

8 should probably read, "NPC romance options". You're not just limited to companions.
