I am such a altitis inflicted player. I am already considering trying out a caster who specializes in minions. I was wondering if anyone tried the summons you control are they terribly hard to control or weak or the AI sucks to kingdom come ?
Any tips on what perks to put points in a pure minion controller.
The pets are pretty good but they do end up a bit weak as you progress due to them not scaling. Also, if using destruction magic they tend to get hit by your higher up spells and decide to turn round and attack you instead of the mobs.
Level 51 on my Battlemage now and mostly just use destruction and a bit of restoration, heavy armor covers my defenses and 4 x -29% cast cost enchantments on it means the magicka bar doesn't move. The spells are starting to become a bit weak sauce though due to the same scaling problems as the pets.
Brilliant game but in need of some TLC from Bethseda or the modders.
This isn't the only place I have seen this, and honestly, I don't see it. Maybe I'm not far enough into the game, but I doubt it.
I would be very interested to hear what others here have to say, especially other women.

I think at one time before Lara there were very few female characters you could even play in video games. Yes of course a lot of the lore can be misogynistic that is something you cannot avoid. I just don't notice it anymore and accept it (that is a indictment in itself) but I have given up reading those books that continue to write about those times. I don't read books about when women were chattel and even when I read sci fi books I avoid books with planets where women are continued to be used as slaves or where men are treated such. I don't think the reverse is cleansing either.
Although I used to have a steady diet in between my other scifi, steampunk, mystery and fantasy books of romance novels, I have given up the women must be a virgin crap while the man has slept with anything that moves storyline. It is like guys sitting and reading playboy on the toilet women read romance novels like that. However I have decided those books really just put me in a bad mood.
As a women and one who has given her job up to raise kids I think we understand this divide better and handle it as part of our lives but when I look at what is on TV and skimmed what the recent Kardashian spectacle is I am truly embarrassed for my sex. Look at what we have done with our rights . Reality TV is scary.
Incase anyone didn't know this all ready, do not stand on the edge of a cliff, behind a dragon - their tails are weapons too. One flicked his tail at me and sent my flying off the cliff. I should have known he was about to do something. He turned his head and looked at my character who was standing behind him shooting arrows like Legalos - when suddenly his tail bent around toward his head and then whipped back in the blink of an eye. Last time I'll do that.
Also...side story. My friend cleared out Nelhiem, she gathered up the dead, put them all in a cart. AS she was doing this she I heard her saying "bring out your dead...bring out your dead." lol then she proceeded to push the cart over the cliff with all the bodies in it. I guess that is one way to eleminate the chance of disease.

LOL... All I have to say is... That poster is completely off her rocker! She's all bent out of shape because in a book in the game they discribe something that very probably happened quite often to medieval women but she apperently had no issue what so ever to a guy getting beheaded right in front of her in the first 5 minutes of the game! Wow, what a piece of work she is.

That was nuts. She is totally, as my friend from the UK is always saying, "nutters." LOL!
Can you still soul trap summoned creatures? I was thinking of working on my conjuration to help out my enchanting. Actually, does anyone know which souls provide the most power for enchanting in this game?
And guess who I ran into outside of a town last night? The greatest npc ever created in any game ever, M'aiq the Liar. He was just as awesome to talk to as always.
I don't have a place to show all my screenshots so I will post theme here =P
I have a problem with shadowson rocks etc. They strangely move sometimes on them. They look like dark shadow lines on surfaces. I know it would help if I increased shadow resolution to 4096 but it's too mych for my pc. I hope there will be a solution soon. =/

I want to ask a question about dual wielding 2 weapons..
So how do you usually fight when dual wielding? Pressing right mouse button, left mouse button, right left, right left? Or pressing both at same time? (it does kind of special attack).
The dual wielding just doesn't work for me. I tried killing a mob when dual wielding, then i tried same mob with 2handed weapon - using 2handed was easier to kill, even though i didn't have any perks in the 2 handed skill tree.

Only dual wield if you don't feel like blocking, and you feel the enchantment benefits from both equipped weapons will benefit your dps. You're right; 2 handers are immense dps, only overshadowed late game with bows and the proper perks and "combat strategy"... but 1 hander skills are good to have at times, like when you want to "sword and board" with a nice shield enchantment, like resist magic.

I agree with this post about magic, and specifically conjurors. Right now I feel my mage is the "weakest" of my 3 toons, and that's too bad.
I'm about 30 hours in now. I've had some of the most epic moments in my gaming life, in this game already. We're talking about some amazing times spent gaming through Infocom on the C64, MUD's, early mmos and sp games like Wizardry, M&M series, everything. Skyrim is one hell of a game, in so many ways.
I'm playing a Dunmer magic user / thief. Dual wielding daggers, using archery and magic, being generally sneaky and prefering sneak attacks like backstab, etc...
I decided that I would stick this guy out regardless of what becomes of me in game. Early on that decision challenged me as i was met with vampirism and did not realize it until daybreak when I began to weaken. When I figured out what was wrong, i was already nearing stage 1 of the disease. Still very curable at my early stage, but advancing rapidly. As it progresses you begin to weaken more in daylight and need to feed off humans more and more. It can adavance to stage 4 from what i gather, and becomes tougher to cure (requiring a journey and finding the right person/people) the further along it gets. So I choose to stick it out and play it out, even if I didn't find a cure. Luckily for me, I found a way to cure it pretty easily in the eraly stage that I was in.
The dungeon crawls have been nothing short of epic and amazing. Most games out there would benefit immensly, just by adopting a design philosephy based on these dungeons. The exploratory nature of them is unmatched in my opinion. The art direction is classic Bethesda, and i love it. Thegame reminds me more of Daggerfall than anything else in the series, and deserves to be at the helm of single player RPG progression in my opinion.
The game has some bugs and some annoyances, but they are easily and quickly overshadowed by the best atmospheric style that i have ever experienced in a game. A patch is already in the works, and the modders are already cranking out content even before the tool set launches. We're in good hands here, in my opinion.
Anyway, nobody needs another review at this point, and especially not by me It's been said way better by way too many people already, so I will just leave it with this one sentence (and a run-on at that) wrap up of my opinion.
If you like adventuring and non linear progression, combined with an atmosphere (in both scope and style) that is unmatched in the adventure RPG genre, and you enjoy a virtual world that lives and thrives around you as you play whatever way you want to play, then Sklyrim is likely the best 60 bucks you can spend on an experience of such caliber, taking previous games into account as well as what's on the horizon.
Be safe folks, happy adventuring! Sorry for the typos, 2 hours sleep... damn this game!!!

It's a habit for me to start a dual-wield fight with the RH weapon (LMB). Essentially, you need to get close before starting the attack and start alternating your swings. Or, my favorite, is close in quick and do a dual-wield power attack by holding both mouse buttons then release. The character does a series of nasty little attacks.
IMO, to get a better use of dual wield, you need those 1H perks to improve dual wield speeds.
The 1H tree is very flexible, IMO. You can go defense by going Sword & Board or all-out offense with Dual Wield. It can work perfectly in tandem with the Block skill tree. And going DW will still make full use of 1H tree.
On a side note, I really do appreciate Bethesda implementing ways to improve your current gear. For example, at the beginning I can get a full set of Imperial heavy armor. I do like sporting that gear because it reminds me of how Bethesda made Imperial soldiers closer to the Morrowind versions, i.e. kind of like the Roman Legionairres. Anyways, with a good Smithing skill, you can upgrade your weapons, shields, and armor to be comparable to later game gear, provided you put the time and resources into it. Sure, my Legion armors at full upgrade can't compare to Steel Plate or higher armors with their own full upgrades, but a fully upgraded older set gear can still carry you. This becomes more apparent if you have both good Smith AND Enchantment buildups. I also found that I save alot of money with Smithing since I can upgrade my gear (or fancy new loot) to higher standards, or build my own equipment.
P.S. - It's also nice to have your upgraded gear with the words Legendary or Epic at the end.

I have a question about the strength/capability of different setups...
I have one character that's level 8, in full steel armor, focused on Archery, one-handed sword and shield. The sword is "fine" and enchanted with ice damage. I can one-shot most enemies in Redoran's Retreat and out in the wild in general. However, when I get the Bandit Chief, I'm absolutely getting my ass kicked. Even having my shield up barely makes a difference. However, when I'm hitting the chief, including a clear head-shot that I got off before they saw me, it barely scratched them, and as long as they had their shield up, I wasn't even putting a dent in their HP.
I'm noticing this with every enemy around that range/area that isn't a regular "common enemy". Everything/everyone is kicking my ass without effort.
Now... by comparison, I have another character, a Dunmer that's only level 6, focused on Destruction magic, with Conjuration secondary and Restoration tertiary. I'm laying waste to anything I encounter that would otherwise kill me on my first character. I beat the same Bandit Chief without breaking a sweat, at level 6, in light armor that provides next to no protection, and no buffs up.
... does that sound normal to anyone here?

Funny because its actually opposite to me. With my bow I can really take stuff down fast, spells not so much. That said, my bow is over 60 now ( level 20 ) and it still takes a good bunch of arrows ( if not from stealth ) to take stuff down.
I had a caster the first time through ( got to level 12 ) and I found I was weak in many situations.
To your point about "laying waste" is it just that you are putting out so much damage with your spells that stuff does not have a chance ? Maybe with your other build you need more offense ( sounds like it ).
I highly recommend two-handed weapon build, You can "crit" for a decapitation with a 2-handed axe, and, if you spend a perk, with a 2-handed sword. Ahhh ...nothing more satisfying.
Hedonismbot: Your latest performance was as delectable as dipping my bottom over and over into a bath of the silkiest oils and creams.

Level 36 Imperial Assassin here, and my thoughts on dual-wield are this:
1. When dual-wielding, you should always play as more of a skirmisher, weaving in and out of range (against melee) and staying close-range (against archers/mages). Since you have no weapon defense, you HAVE to be able to take a big opening chunk of health from your enemy before the fight ever starts. Coupled with max stealth (which I found is the easiest skill to max) you'll never be spotted if played correctly and almost always will execute the target.
Stealth--> Stealth Roll into a single dagger power attack (with Critical Charge perk) equals dead anything.
2. Enchanting a dagger with paralyze will make you unstoppable, almost to the point where you won't feel any challenge in the game. I find a decent fire enchant on one of my daggers and a life absorb on the other makes you strong in straight-up fights without breaking the game.
3. When fighting, try to use the dual power attack (both buttons at the same time) from stealth if you can, and if not then alternate between both daggers depending on which enchants you have.
Now, at the level I'm at, I'm finding that this build seems too strong for my liking and plan on rolling a different character soon. Thinking a 2-handed, heavy armored Breton.
Over 60 hours into the game now and I've finished all the main quests as well as all the side quests apart from finding all of the 'unusual gems' and the one quest in Windhelm which is bugged and I can't finish until they bring out a patch for it.
I'm pretty sure that there was said to have been over 300 hours worth of gameplay in Skyrim in an interview, so unless it's going to take me 200 or so hours to find the other half of the unusual gems then that's a bit of a disappointment. There is just nothing exciting left for me to do. Maybe get ALL of my skills up to 100? but that is more work than fun.
Am I missing something massive here? Is my game broken?
I found sword and board rather weak, i belive it gets good later on but i would go for a 2hander or dual wield until you get some perk points and enough stamina to take full use of your shield.
I fought an npc with shield that was damn annoying, everytime i did powerattack she bashd me, that was frusterating
As a low lvl fighter you will struggle with some boss type mobs, 2hander sword/heavy armor and blacksmith are my main skills. At level 30 i have met a few boss mobs that can almost one hit me with 350 armor and 200 health. Everything else is a cakewalk with that char.
Its usaly the draugr(spelling) lords that can almost one hit me.

I have 50 hours into the game, level 25 and tons of content left undone. Many quests in my log and my map is littered with things I haven't seen or done.
If you're a themepark mmo fan rather than a sandbox mmo fan you may be mistaking the game not leading from each set piece of content to the next set piece of content, as lack of content. Get out there, explore, talk to people. Granted 300 seems optimistic unless you're going for 100% but there should be lots more for you to do.

Same here im 45-50H into my game and i have explored 3 towns, done 2 guild quest line, 3-4 main quest and a handfull of sidequests and i got alot more to explore on the world map.

That's definately not it. I'm more of a sandbox fan, following a linear path can get boring. I've been exploring, found all the little settlements and areas with any sidequests and even randoms in caves with quests. I even ran to the majority of the locations because I feel as though fast travelling ruins the immersion for me a little bit.
Maybe I just never spent as much time choosing what kind of character I wanted to play..?
The poor souls of Markath [spelling?] will have to suffer until an expansion comes out ;]

I just bought the game. I went to the first town with Ralof and got killed by the whole town for punching a chicken.
Why dick with a chicken tho'? You deserved it.
I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.
