FIrst time in 11 years that WoW is behind in subs? Only proves how legendary of a game WoW was (is)
  • chillizchilliz Member UncommonPosts: 96
It's not active subs, it's created accounts........ Wow probably has 100 million+ created accounts

LOL and the shady PR speak claims it's first victim.

That's 7 million accounts, not 7 million active users.

It means that someone like me who hadn't played in over a year is counted in that 7 million.

Ye, and when you think about it a bit, with fact that GW2 is no.2 in the west since WoW, it just brings out the gap between WoW and everyone else.

So next time somene says that 6m wow players that quit wow went to other MMOs.....well, they didnt, maybe very very small %.

But, nevertheless, GW2 doing great 3 years after launch.

Well done GW2 - gets my vote as I don't have to pay a monthly sub or pay for anything else if I don't want to.  Why anyoner would still play to pay WoW is beyond me.

Wonder how many boxes sold.  If you divide those two numbers you get the average time being played about 200 hours.

I love infographics like this, but I am still not sold on the expac, nor ready to trust these devs again.  As pointed out above, do not mistake accounts for players, this number only gets included to mislead us (it seems like many devs have been bringing up total account numbers, wish they would just give us the real info).  Good luck ANet, I hope you made something special, gonna be keeping an eye here to see what people have to say.

stopped playing after 2 months of release. Since the game is f2p now you probably have 1-2mil accounts just from that.

The infograph is more entertaining than the game. That's saying something.

The key number will be number of HoT sales.  I'm guessing around 500k to 1 million

#2 in what?  I'd venture to guess SWTOR has a more revenue and more accounts.

Since GW2 went F2P that 7 million means nothing. More PR spin with the numbers. I think they sold something like 3 mil before the basic game went F2P. That is good and no one can say GW2 hasn't done well, but it's still annoying when you see them put out these inflated numbers to try and make it seem like everyone is playing their game.

    In mostly everything

You can venture all you want, but SWTOR hasnt been doing good. It did decent at launch, somewhat decent at F2P launch but have been dwindling ever since. This year, up to expansion, has been THE most dry year for SWTOR, and 2014, except for small SoR window wasnt much better. 2013 saw a bump with GSF, but that was VERY short lived due to great dissapointment in GSF.

The only reason you these small red bumps if because of free transfres and everyone transfered to few populated servers.

SWTOR will depend wheter people will continue to sub for monthly story updates. I hope they will and we get more juicy updates in the future, but still dont hold my breath.

I had a feeling they would try a cute tactic. It does let them claim huge number of 'subscribers' considering its P2P with cash shop, so even those who haven't touched the game in years still 'count' as a player. To be fair a lot of companies do this, even if they are generally stupid market gimmick. I have a feeling the F2P move was done when it was with this being in mind to try and inflate the number to make the game look more popular. Gotta give credit that it was a clever move for them to bolster their numbers more to make themselves look hugely more popular.

Same with WoW and their asian market.

1 player is counted as a subscriber even if that player logged for 1 min paying 1 cent.

Always curious to see how many EU / USA players they have but they never give that data -_-

I think GW2 is doing ok, but no way they have 7 million people playing their game right now.

Like it or not, gw2 HoT easily takes the trophy home for smoothest/best launch of an expansion of all MMO's.

Gotta ask for the sake of sanity... players translates to how many payers?

Just another day in the GW2 forums.  Been like this for the past 3 years.  Why should it change now? All is well :)
