Funcom, the developers of AoC, want to make PvP in AoC completley consensual. They will have complete open PvP servers open later, after release, but as of right now it ALL PvP will be zone based. Meaning you cannot attack that person or siege that castle or keep unless it is in what they call the Border Kingdoms, which are zoned areas on the map. No word on how big these areas will be in comparison to the rest of the map.

Im not sure exactly how  WH PvP will be, will it be completely open PvP, zone based, or flagged?

Age of conan for me. I won't claim I know everything about warhammer, but it doesn't really seem to have that many new features.

I don't think either will be better, just different.

Seems that the PvP systems of both games are different enough to really satisfy a good chunk of players out there, which is nothing but good for gamers in general.

Although it's only fair to say, both of these games still have lots of room the grow until release, the pvp/combat dynamics could very well be completely different then what they've explained thus far by that time.

Either way, worse thing they could do is make them similar, variety is alway a good thing.

I can't really compare the two except to say that everything WAR has shown impresses me, and everything AoC has shown makes me skeptical.

I think they'll be two completely different monsters and will both be successful in their own right.

As far as PvP, WAR will be better for it.  PvP from day one, and you can level by doing PvP, not to mention the idea of putting trophies that you loot off of the bodies of your victims on your armor.

I think PvP in AoC will be fun, but it'll be less fulfilling for me.

So Warhammer for me as of right now.  That could change later.

the more i read out war the better aoc looks, atleast for me. My first and only mmo was wow, which I still play but its getting so boring. From what I heard war is the same pvp wise as wow although it has open pvp unlike wow.

I also agree with the poster above saying war doesn't offer anything new. AoC looks interesting while war looks like wow fancied up with the same boring reptition in every aspect of the game.

It looks like war is a copy of wow, with different lore.

This reply is probably going to seem fanboyish, but just to put some things out there since I"m following both games really closely.

WAR has 4 levels of RvR/PvP, controllable zones, and city sacking.

Also it's been said a million times, but the Warhammer universe precedes Warcraft by at least 10 years, so this WoW copy stuff is just ignorance.  You should check out www.warhammeralliance.com they usually have pretty good discussions and information about WAR.

That said, I am looking forward to both of these games and I'll probably play both, but if I had to pick, I'm going to pick a game that's selling it's gameplay as opposed to it's M rating.

What aspects of war are you forward to?

  • GameloadingGameloading Member UncommonPosts: 14,182

Lets look at one thing of both games, note that its only ONE thing: the combat.

Warhammer Combat: Same as EVERY other MMORPG. just the standard combat

    Movie:
    Warhammer Online E3 Gameplay movie

now Age of Conans combat: Completely new to the MMO genre. Finally something diffrent then anything else. Combat is unique.

    Movie:
Age of Conan E3 Gameplay movie

watching those two movies also show that Age of Conan's graphics are looking much better then Warhammer. in fact, Warhammers graphics look exactly the same like World of Warcrafts.

I don't know about you guys, but I know where my money is going to.

Actually, WOW is a copy of the Warhammer series, Blizzard just beat them to the punch

I was going to fall asleep during the Warhammer movie... and the guy's voice was annoying.

The music was very epic and got my attention in Age of Conan, just wish the guy playing didn't suck so bad with the controls. :)

Mythic also made Dark age of Camelot. the RvR is zoned but damned fun and I've never experienced any kind of lag with 60 people storming a keep. Both games will be fun, but for different reasons, and Warhammer has been around 24 years. Blizzard admitted to doing more than a bit of stealing from the warhammer franchise when creating warcraft.

Funcom PvP with anarchy online is a bit lacking, so I'm looking forward to what they've done with AoC.

Large scale battles among loads of people is just downright fun...but hopefully Funcom's engine can run smoothly and lag free, because alien raids in AO with 40ish people can get downright laggy. Mythic already knows how to do this and do it well.

Every warhammer player knows how an warhammer orc is supposed to look like. Every warhammer player knows how an warhammer dwarf is supposed to look like. Warhammer have always had that cartoony, yet dark and grimmy look.
What supprises me, is everyone saying that WAR is just a copy of WoW. Looking at the screens, you could maybe belive so - Reading about the features, you'd be stupid to think so. WoW uses an rather standard leveling system, without leaving much room for specialisation. WAR will use an latteral(Which means, it won't use levels, but skill boxes. Which further means, a new char can kill an old veteran. The old veteran just have much more utility, and probaly more effective attacks) advancement system. WoW focuses on PvE, with very minor PvP features included. WAR is mainly an PvP game, but with enough PvE content to make most PvE'rs happy. Warcraft got an heavy lore, but it have been rewritten to fit WoW. Warhammer have an extremely deep lore, which have been written on the last 20 years. The lore of the Warhammer world, is something many table top players actually takes interrest in. Hence, there have always been at least a bit of lore in every White Dwarf magazine released, every new rulebook, every new army book.. And every new novel. If WAR manage to stays true to it's roots(Which it seems like), it will be great.
But call it an copy of WoW if you want, just point out WHY, instead of just looking at the screens. I've yet to hear anyone calling [Insert game] an copy of [random game], just because both of them uses Unreal 2.5 engine.
And that's mainly because.. Art work is different. The same thing applies to WoW.
    Here is an example:

    Night Goblin from WAR:
    http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/media/screenshots/full/ex_ss_06.jpg

    Goblin from WoW:
    http://wow.allakhazam.com/images/mobs/goblin_woodcarver.jpg

But now, to answer the OP.. I'm interrested in both game, and i will try them both. There is no reason to take side already, you might as well wait and see.

So why's warhammer so hyped up? I saw a video and it looked way too similar to WoW which turned me off of it. For me if its gonna be the same as wow then I might as well stick with wow.

wanna take me on game day 1v1? I'll already know what to do from Daoc. this ios a continuation on a process. if you figure you know it so well accecpt :)

staying there wondering will get you killed

    Does it really matter?

I hate people who ask these questions, that start these pointless debates, it doesnt matter what game is better then another. People will play what they want, what the like for any reason they like, decide on your own what is better and choose to play it.

How are you going to start a debate on what is better then what when both games are still in devolpment, not even beta stage yet. This question is always pointless.

As much as both games look awesome (the guy in the vidio playing sucked by the looks of it) age of conans fight system has been done before...raikon, gunz online. No big if you ask me, and if things happen like Gunz onine (like somone creating "styles") I will probably not play this game...but I would rather play WAR anyways.

The fighting system in gunz is arcade styled and super-twitch based. And extremely un-realistic.
Rakion was also deviating quite a bit from realism last time I tried it.
Any 'styles' developed in AoC would probably be very similar to real-life styles... and that would be a GOOD thing.
K-styling is sickening... and Butterflying in GunZ is the most idiotic thing I've ever seen.
