If your axe play is already promoted to Phase II, I would NOT bring another one up. I use Falchion personally and have been happy with the results. I'm currently like 48 or 49 I think. EDIT: Meant to say NOT.

At lvl 27 you'ld have to take it slowly, but it's doable. The mummies walk/stumble very slowly so you can out run them if they become overwhelming.
