reported by CCP Ginger | 2007.04.01 23:18:42 Work on Revelations 2 is underway, and I have been asked to discuss the latest changes that will be making it in. While this new expansion will be bringing a host of new features, we continue working on improving existing gameplay and ironing out those pesky bugs.
One of these features that has undergone a complete rework is the death penalty and the associated hurdles that come with it. While EVE has been known for its harsh death penalty loved by some, hated by others we feel the time has come for it to change. The idea is to level the playground to be more in line with the other MMO offerings and giving EVE a broader market appeal.
As a first step to help bring EVE to a larger audience, and for their enjoyment as well as yours, both cloning and ship insurance services will be upgraded.
New Clone System
The first implementation is a new advanced clone type. We call them Generic Hosts for Optimal Secure Transport, a bit of a mouthful but we like that here. Essentially this is a one off purchase clone that will exist in all stations. When you suffer a pod death, your brain gets zipped off to the nearest station and put in your new clone with no skill point loss, the clone immediately being replaced free of charge. An advanced feature of this clone is that it maps all implants in your head at time of death and rebuilds them in your new clone body.
New Insurance System
The second implementation is an upgraded insurance system from our good friends, Pend Insurance. There will now only be two types of insurance, Common and Epic.
Common Insurance does away with the annoyance of having to go out and buy a new ship, instead your ship will automatically be replaced by your friendly insurance company with a brand new model at the station you are revived in.
Epic insurance on the other hand, as well as replacing your ship also replaces all modules and cargo as well as fitting them on your ship (There will sometimes be slight damage to the modules being replaced due to their inferior quality). This does however, cost slightly more than the common insurance.
This not only improves play experience by saving you time, it also removes an another ISK faucet, helping us keep market inflation in check; its really a win-win situation!
Low Sec getting you down?
Hand in hand with these new systems comes a welcome addition for our less combat orientated player base. A new contract can be purchased from CONCORD much like you purchase your insurance currently, what this does is give you CONCORD protection in low security space. We find that the harsh realities of low sec are turning many players away and with this new contract in place, they can travel as freely as they do in high sec space. This should help solve the problem of populating low security space.
Im sure you will welcome these changes, the first of many, and wish you a safer, better EVE in the future.

So, CCP knows that they have a problem and are working to make the game better. Having a large ad campaign ad not fixing the glaring problems in the system seems silly. Too bad none of those improvements are in the game currently. If they fix the gatecampring and limited PvE then the game may become worth playing.
I never tried EvE and never will, unless they made a server where PvP has no consequences on PvE, be it a PvE server, or a no-PvP conseqences server.
I can understand both sides, and honestly, I rather just forget about EvE and move away. This game has no desire to accomodate PvE, and I have no desire to try to make it accomodate PvE; that way I can just ignore it and focus on PvE-friendly games.
I played EVE for about 2 years. As I've said elsewhere, I never died once in EVE, never podded, not even from an NPC. EVE has plenty of accomadations for PvE. PvE is WHY EVE is successful and growing.
Those who brag on EVE for being hardcore PvP, or those who slag on EVE for being hardcore PvP do the game a disservice. It is neither.
And to the OP...EVE has a PvE server already, several of them in fact. They're called HiSec Space.
Never died even once? My aren't we lucky. Do you go into systems .4 or below or just hang in high sec?
Also as anyone who plays EvE knows, high sec is no guarantee agains't getting suicide ganked. The reality is that PvP is done everywhere in EvE. It's just done less in high sec systems.

Wow, never realized this was the master plan. But the annoucement appears to be quite old. Any idea when they are going to implement these changes? I'd like a clone that replaced my implants, one of my alts has implants worth 1/2 a billion ISK and I never let him get in harms way.
Now, that low sec change will really impact the pirate corps that gatecamp in low sec. Should make it a lot easier to run missions in those areas and let players mine some of the better ores in those zones. Gankers won't be happy though, because I can't see anyone not buying the Concord protection.

I tried EVE and it just wasn't for me. Not going to trash the game but unlike some people just because I had a bad experience in a game doesn't make it a bad game. If people like it let them play it. Has no bearing on the games I play or like to each their own

That is why you fail.:(
whats the point of having nice gear (500MIL implants) if you dont use them in pvp?
If your answer to me is going to be "for missions" im gonna laugh myself into a comma.

And what if it is for missions and/or mining? What if they are imps targeted toward economics or faster skill training? Doesn't make him any less of a player or person than if they were for PvP.

have you worked it out yet? everything you think CCP should do to improve the game is the subject of mirth within the company.
I read a good discussion on PvP and games. Ultima Online had rampant PvP, but people played it because it was the only game in town. EQ1 came out, which was less brutal, and UO lost a ton of people. UO made a restricted PvP server 90% of the population jumped to the safe zone.
My suggestion to make a PvE only server would certainly crash the PvP server. I thought it was an innocent enough idea, but it would depopulate the standard server pretty much overnight.
As soon as a good space game with more restrictive PvP comes out, EVE will likely suffer the fate of UO. Have fun for now.
BTW, CCP keeps emailing me and asking me to come back, so the next time I will send them some of the posts here to show them that I am not the kind of person they should be spamming.
