It's a good game so far. My major concern for the game lies in the following: The fact that 95% of the forums is made up of "Will my rig run this game" threads. Fact of the matter is that AoC is a well done game with great graphics, but you'll need a monster rig to run it well. Granted, the launch client will be better than what exists in beta, but even still. I imagine it'll be a few months before they have all the kinks worked out of their engine. I forsee a lot of issues from users come launch time with both crashing, FPS issues and hitching. This wont be a deathknell by any means, but it will turn people off and they may lose a few impatient subscribers.
As long as WAR can be mechanically sound in its gameplay, i dont believe they'll have many of the above described issues simply due to the less complex graphics. Then again, some wont enjoy the less complex graphics, thus they wont play WAR (welcome to the world of opinions).
Bottomline is play the game you have FUN with. That's what GAMES are for. I'll likely be playing both.
Sorry but Aoc doesnt require a monster machine.. you can buy a pc from walmart for 500 dollars that will run AoC on the highest settings if you spend another 2-300 dollars ona 8800GTS. so for 800 dollars (even cheaper if you looked) you could get dx10 fullsettings(minus bloom/AA). where is this monster machine you say you need again?
Most people don't realize that your video card is going to be the main issue when it comes to AoC, if you have a x1300 you could play on medium settings. Trust me, I know
FYI, my spec is:
AMD athlon 64 x2 4600
4 gigs pcr4200 ram(CHEAP ram)
512 mb radeon x1300 overlocked.(2-3 year old card..)
guess what? I run on medium settings at around 30-40fps.

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths, Enwrought with golden and silver light, The blue and the dim and the dark cloths Of night and light and the half light, I would spread the cloths under your feet: But I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
It should be hilarious when WAR comes out and the same exact thing happens with it also. Honestly, I'm going to laugh my ass off when people finally realize that it's not "DAoC 2" and it's just uncreative garbage.
But they did push it back, so who knows. Maybe they'll change the whole game or actually make the PvP good. Perhaps they'll change their extremely linear world. Only time will tell. =/
Edit: If WAR released around this time (like it was going to) it would have probably been the biggest disappointment of the year.
Another factless post. Quit using words like "should" "probably" and "maybe" you lose all credibility.
No offense, but do you know how stupid your statement is? No shit I'm not giving facts. These are all opinions of what will happen and what I think of both games. So if I took out "probably", "should", and "maybe", then my post would be a fact and would deserve credibility? You're an idiot, sorry.
Lol not DAOC2 hmm i think anyone following this game is aware of that. Uncreative garbage well i won t comment on much due to a little agreement but that my friend is so not true IMO anyways. Lots of new stuff that has never been done. And to top it off it s fun and pretty much lag free wow what a concept lol

Have a great machine and a 8800 and it runs like crap it s random on what system it will run well on.
Honestly bro it sounds like mmorpg's arent for you, go play some gta4
You would be wrong, and for a variety of reasons I won't bother with. Technically, I could actually go back and play WoW with my time frame. I just burned out on it as well...and did not feel like investing more time with it. Back when I first quit, they were REALLY focused on raiding. Arenas hadn't even come out yet. I just can't go back now...something about the game was lost when I spent nearly a year away from it. I can't even stand to level another character in it...and they made it SOO easy to do now.
My wife and I love MMO's...and play them together as a way of spending time with each other. But raids aren't gonna work for us...and we both kinda like PvP quite a bit. Overly 'grindy' games burn us out too fast..because we've already made the grind a few hundred times now (more for me actually...I've been through so many betas and free games that I'm grinded out).
MMO's are EXACTLY for me. My wife and I enjoy the social nature of them...and the vast worlds. She likes crafting a good deal too (as proved by our latest game, Perfect World, where she spends WAYY too much time gathering and crafting) and we enjoy meeting new people and enjoy the experience therein. I also have a hard-on for playing support classes now and again and going to noob areas to buff and heal them. I like helping people, and I enjoy the interaction. I just dislike having massive timesinks force fed to me. I also dislike being forced to do content I hate to compete in content I like. I don't think anything I've said is unreasonable here.

So, you can run dx10 full settings minus bloom/AA. Do you not see the fallacy in that? People want to run bloom/AA. That and the fact that your older system is 1) not that bad of a system and 2) OC'd in some aspects. The average user does not OC their equipment. I'm talking baseline systems. Grats on your success wiht the game, but i'll stand by my statements. People will have issues running the game, as is already apparent by the AoC forums.
PS: not sure how you're running DX10 and/or can assume how DX10 will run when it's not enabled in beta btw.
Yes but mmorpgs in a whole are very time consuming. I understand what you mean about WOW i feel the same way and can no longer even log into the game without it making me feel sick. You do fail to realize a few things about AOC. Raiding is only lvl 80. There are no raids before lvl 80. No one says you have to raid. Making WOW more casual is what ruined that game. They have dumbed it down so much its not even fun anymore. If you read more into AOC you will see that the BEST items in game are crafted because you can customize them with gems to make the armor into whatever you need it for, pve/pvp. I think AOC has done a very good job with this aspect of the game. Seriously how stupid is wow when u can afk in battle grounds and do failed pvp teams in arena and get all that pvp gear anyway. WOW became everything i hated. Dont get me wrong i think WOW was a great game and i enjoyed playing it alot. But blizzard realy messed up when they decided to bend to every whim of 10 million people some of whom are trying to change what a mmorpg is.
WoW was always Casual..then they hired EQ1 devs..and it changed...in essence Blizz screwed up the end game to their own game within the first year...they made it worst with the hacked together glued on PvP.
Whats the point of reaching the End Levels of a game if there's nothing to do? Should I say "Oh I got to lvl 80..well time to quit because I don't raid" i'm not going to become some Raid guilds Gear building Home making slave ... I"m not going to pay money for that.
Raids don't make you hardcore (Raiding is a playstyle it is not what defines a hardcore player) and avoiding them doesn't make you a casual. When I play a game I play it hardcore I like to dig out every little thing there is in a game but I've never enjoyed raiding I dont enjoy being a lil lemming that may or may not get some peice of loot that drops for 24 people fight over, get screwed out of because the leader is someone's best friend, or someone's random not online alt needs it, or because i refuse to kiss someone's butt cheeks.
Raids = the fail atleast for me. Raiders like Raids...for everyone else there's nothing to do at End Game in several Pve based games unless you PvP or Craft and thats double fail. I'll be enjoying WAR's end game when it releases..there's multiple things to do instead of only raid, pvp, faction grind, or craft.

Bull crappage.
It will require much more than a 500 dollar PC from Walmart to play AoC even at LOW settings. With dual 8800 GTX's (that's SLI) it still runs like a dog on low settings.
I can imagine what it runs like on high on any thing less!
Lets hope the new patch today cleans up a lot of issues but anyone saying that you can run AoC on anything remotely less than 8500s and current CPU are just trying to lie to people.
It would appear that there is some confusion as to what MMORPG's are all about. Somewhere in that confusion...WoW has apparently ruined something in order to appeal to almost every last available gamer on the market?
I have a different theory...these raid games have ruined what MMO's are about. They have turned what SHOULD be interactive worlds where each person is both an individual AND a member of a society into slot machines that you pay for in blood and time. Oh, and you have to fill out applications (literally) to get into good guilds whom then dictate your time FOR you to play.
There is no living world...there is no society. There is only the guild, and the raid, now. We've traded off fluid virtual content for this stupid raiding crap. Now all of my virtual society is locked away inside a boss room. No butchers, no bakers, no candlestick makers to be found here. They are all subsidized into their guilds and dominated by the time restrictions placed by its high council. The only time you see these players is when they are standing around towns waiting for the next raid...showing off. They aren't interacting at ALL. Or, worse, you find them at the wrong end of their epic weapons in what Frankenstien monster form of PvP the game has....further removing the interaction, because they don't NEED to interact with you. You are weak, and useless, unless you are a slave to their system.
EQ can die in a fire for what I care. Their ideal of what an MMO is has ruined any hope of seeing what an MMO can truly be.

Quoted for truth. Hardcore, in my opinion, means people that sit there and perfect thier character to a well built offensive badass. They know every move, know what stats effect what and what weapons work best with it, and so on... they dont have to raid... they dont even have to pvp, but if you ever get on the field against them (and your not hardcore yourself) chances are youll lose several times to them, they know their charcter THAT well...
As for WoW i agree... they messed the endgame up royally by focusing it AROUND raiding. Ok so you get your gear, great then what? Ok.. you have battle ground pvp.. ok... to what end though? What are you fighting for? Just a silly little rank? Why not fight for zones? Like what WAR is doing..... which is why im going to play it, among other things...
Im not saying WoW is bad, its good in its own respects... but i believe it could have been alot better, especially in the endgame dept.
Heres whats funny.... i think that after WAR comes out... the WOW devs will finally introduce full war pvp where you can take over contested areas.... wouldnt that be ironic? i can see it now "OMG YOUR COPYING WAR!"

dx10 wont have as big of a framerate hit as you may think if you go with a newer card such as a 8800gt which is like 200-250 dollars. I agree though that some specs are having issues with the game but most aren't. The amount of people having issues is so few compared to those who aren't.
There are some great posts on the funcom boards about all this and you'll find a lot more information then on this site, which in all honesty is a troll breeding ground. when I play closed beta compared to open, I see a lot of difference in the stalling, stuttering and slow load times. when i'm on the open beta it feels extremely sluggish in some aspects, but when i'm on the closed beta client I have no issues at all, except for a crash every 6 hours, give or take.
I know it is fustrating when you have a good system or even just an 'Ok' system, but crying and telling everyone how horrible a game is because there is a bug in the client that is causing your system to crash or slow down is not helping anyone. If you really want to play aoc then anyone who is "complaining" about how bad their system works, needs to send a report to funcom and keep sending them every time the problem happens.
As for my computer being "alright", I bought my video card over a year ago, I just upgraded from 2 gigs of ram to 4(3.56 because of 32bit.) and a 450watt power supply about a year ago also. My pc is just a HP media center with vista 32bit. IT cost me 700 dollars for my computer, 120 dollars for my video card, 30 dollars for the power supply, and 35 dollars for 2 one gig sticks of pcr4200 ddr ram.
so my computer cost me roughly 900 dollars, which is expensive for what is really is. If you bought my computer with the same specs, or even built one from scratch you could acheive it with about 400-500 dollars.

Sorry but you're wrong. You can tell me all day how "bad" my system will run, but in the end I know what my computer is capable of, as well as many others. medium-high settings is easy for my pc, but i get about 20-30 fps. medium settings is 30-40fps.
As for people who say you NEED bloom and AA, think again. Bloom is actually really annoying for a lot of people and I prefer it off instead of on. As for AA you really don't need it unless you are playing in a bad resolution. As for resolution, I forgot to mention I play at 1440x900, not the best but it's definitely not small.
Just one thing to remember, you can play with the settings all day, but remembering which resolution you're computer can handle is the key to keeping your framerates at a good level while maintaining good detail. If you want a crazy high resolution, expect to need a 8800GTX, if you want a good resolution, you really can play the game with just a "normal" computer.

Hmm maybe there is something i missed but what else can u do in WAR at endgame besides pvp , craft and raid?
The type of hardcore Raiding that exists in EQ1 and WoW are not a part of WAR at all..raiders will be rather unhappy at the idea they have to wait for the PvPers to take down a city to walk into a palace and fight the King. The king instances are the only 24 man instances...thats not a real raid .. not to mention anyone thats in the city can put together a group or guild mates and go after him. Hence not a raid...no personal requirement other than being in the city at the right time (though it is mentioned that the Kings are tough mofo's so its doubtful that some unprepared under seasoned players are going to own him.)
End game WAR - Yes there's PvP & Crafting...but there's also rare PvE 6 man dungeons, Exploration, lots and lots and lots of Meta Game (if you dont know what meta game is look up the Tome of Knowledge), Easter Egg Quests, Hell Easter Egg boss mobs & hidden lairs that are never once mentioned by any NPC or item in the entire game. If your an explorer & an achiever chances are unless your high level and with a group of friends you'll have some sort of personal vendetta against a boss mob or two by the time you reach teir 4 because eveni f its a Tier 1 pve zone its not a namby pamby tier 1 mob.
While I'll probably spend my Tier 4 life on the battlefront hoping to siege or protecting my city from one I'll also be doing everything I can to get my Tome of KNowledge as fully complete as humanly possible. I have reason to Travel & go off the beaten path again. Not to mention everything I do will help level my city and my guild...I'll be contributing without having to spend my life being a lemming.

That sounds almost fun, it's too bad none of that was in the game before they took down the CB a few months back.

Closed beta is extreme focused testing ... so you only get access to what they're testing. I'm guesssing they'd like there to be plenty of surprises for the Beta testers...whats the point really of playing a game if during CB you get access to the entire game?
According to the last few heralds and news letters they've been mainly focusing on the RvR & standard PvE systems and not much else. The last few CB's I've been in most of the time you'd get your pre made and only get to paricipate in the activites they'd picked out for you to do...i knwo in SWG I spent an entire day praticing making Camps & Bands lol

I already HAVE dual 8800 GTXs in SLI and it won't run in LOW settings fluidly! If by "normal" you mean runs with hitching and stuttering and long pauses (unrelated to video) then yeah the game runs fine.
My system has higher end video cards than yours and it runs like crap, forgive me if I don't believe the "runs fine" story... or at the very least your version of "runs fine" is nothing like mine.
The new patch today is a step in the right direction but it's not the magical fix I was hoping for. Hopefully by early play date it is.
Now why the hell are we talking about this crap here in the WAR forums?

We're talking about it because you brought it up. As for your SLI GTX then yes you have a BEAST which is evident by the 600 or 700 you have in just video cards(even more if you bought them last year). The problem isn't your computer or your specs. The problem is with the code and the game needing to be polished.
There is a post detailing it in the aoc forums, but I highly doubt you even care, as most trolls just like to bash a game instead of having an open mind. The latest patch was given to CB, it has made about 70% of the players if not more have improved performance, specially on higher end computers such as yourself. I really suggest taking a look and realizing the game is still being polished and fitted for launch, and above all post your problems with funcom so they can fix the issues.

This is why the Doom Kitty rocks. The Doom Kitty has a MEMORY. The Doom Kitty keeps the facts straight rather than ignoring (or re-writing) history.
Thank you Elvenangel. It's a rarity to see someone on any gaming Forum with a memory that goes back more than 6 months. Remember the E3 where Blizzard was openly admitting their PvP was 'broken'? I kept thinking, 'Yeah and WHO was it who broke it' Actually, I guess it was never working in the first place
As for AoC, nothing is proven until the game is released. It's premature to claim anything about the success of the game at this point. Wait until the end of the month and then we'll be getting actual facts, not rumors.
Im looking forward to the raid like instances in city sieging in warhammer fighting over the rarest drops in game that can only be obtained from this instance and going through 3/4 of them to get their.
But then again, the world resets and you have to do the whole thing again.
Im thinking people will get bored fast after the 3rd go, to repetitive and static points means that once you done it once everything will be the same over and over in warhammer.
Age of conan has tech issues sure it does for some, not all though the OP is way off the mark.

The more I see about AoC the more I want to save my 40$ for Aion or Spellborn when they finally come out. War Im not to sure about... AoC is kinda sitting badly with me for various reasons.
Comments
Honestly bro it sounds like mmorpg's arent for you, go play some gta4
I'll gladly give my honest opinion of AoC:
And here's one for this thread..

Hmm maybe there is something i missed but what else can u do in WAR at endgame besides pvp , craft and raid?
Heres whats funny.... i think that after WAR comes out... the WOW devs will finally introduce full war pvp where you can take over contested areas.... wouldnt that be ironic? i can see it now "OMG YOUR COPYING WAR!"
lol....

"The acquisition of knowledge is of use to the intellect, for nothing can be loved or hated without first being known." - Leo da Vinci
IMO wow's major problem is no guild vs guild function. This is where games like Lineage and hopefully AOC will shine.

dx10 wont have as big of a framerate hit as you may think if you go with a newer card such as a 8800gt which is like 200-250 dollars. I agree though that some specs are having issues with the game but most aren't. The amount of people having issues is so few compared to those who aren't.There are some great posts on the funcom boards about all this and you'll find a lot more information then on this site, which in all honesty is a troll breeding ground. when I play closed beta compared to open, I see a lot of difference in the stalling, stuttering and slow load times. when i'm on the open beta it feels extremely sluggish in some aspects, but when i'm on the closed beta client I have no issues at all, except for a crash every 6 hours, give or take.

You can tell me all day how "bad" my system will run, but in the end I know what my computer is capable of, as well as many others. medium-high settings is easy for my pc, but i get about 20-30 fps. medium settings is 30-40fps.As for people who say you NEED bloom and AA, think again.
