Have you actually played the beta? I have and what a disapointment.  I felt like I was playing EQ all over again with the loading screens.   Graphics, quests, areas all unimpressive.

What really disapoints the most is taking a Great name "Conan" attatching it to a video game and unterally mucking it up.

No wonder Conan wore his crown on a troubled brow!

Sorry, but that is only your opinion, you are the minority, and frankly no one cares that you don't like a certain video game, get over yourself. Almost everyone I know loves the game, and is planning on buying it. That's not to say there isn't bugs and performance issues(this is beta, and we all know how bad beta>launch transisions are), but seriously grow up and go find a game you actually enjoy. No one will think less of you if you don't sit at your computer and bash age of conan, I promise.

I have a different theory...these raid games have ruined what MMO's are about.  They have turned what SHOULD be interactive worlds where each person is both an individual AND a member of a society into slot machines that you pay for in blood and time.  Oh, and you have to fill out applications (literally) to get into good guilds whom then dictate your time FOR you to play.
There is no living world...there is no society.  There is only the guild, and the raid, now.  We've traded off fluid virtual content for this stupid raiding crap.  Now all of my virtual society is locked away inside a boss room.  No butchers, no bakers, no candlestick makers to be found here.  They are all subsidized into their guilds and dominated by the time restrictions placed by its high council.  The only time you see these players is when they are standing around towns waiting for the next raid...showing off.  They aren't interacting at ALL.  Or, worse, you find them at the wrong end of their epic weapons in what Frankenstien monster form of PvP the game has....further removing the interaction, because they don't NEED to interact with you.  You are weak, and useless, unless you are a slave to their system.
EQ can die in a fire for what I care.  Their ideal of what an MMO is has ruined any hope of seeing what an MMO can truly be.

The voice of sanity lost in the crowd

I have been writing pretty much the same thing for years.

The battle for actual MMORPG's was lost a long time ago, the old guard is gone now. It's funny how all of these games are based on a single mechanic these days. Kill your 10 rats then raid.

MMO's will continue to become more compartmentalized, more specialized and more cost effective (instancing) I'm also predicting micro payment driven opposed to monthly sub. Pretty much the opposite of what they started as.

Most people don't realize that your video card is going to be the main issue when it comes to AoC, if you have a x1300  you could play on medium settings. Trust me, I know :(

    FYI, my spec is:

    AMD athlon 64 x2 4600
    4 gigs pcr4200 ram(CHEAP ram)
512 mb radeon x1300 overlocked.(2-3 year old card..)

guess what? I run on medium settings at around 30-40fps.

This is wrong, i have a better system then you all around and i have crappy performance on low settings. I ve said it a million times it s random on what systems it will run well on. They have ALOT of work ahead of them if they plan on a decent release.

It's looking very good for WAR, the more I look at it, the more I feel WAR will be a huge succes, I mean by the milions, maybe a few milions but that's a lot, maybe really hurting WOW if it is good enough. Sadly by good I mean appealing to the masses, this is the only fear I have.

... he he he ha ha ha HA HA HA

The very lastest version of AOC (patched) looks awesome, runs smooth and is incredible fun.

I think the light for WAR just turned red. Mythic really has a challenge now.

I am playing AOC on a Dell m1730 with dual 8800gtx and the 9000 extreme processor with a steady 8mb connection and playing capture the flag was unplayable - 5 - 15 fps. Worse than SWG used to be, worse than EQ2 at highest settings. Very disappointing. The released product needs to be much better if it wants to be a success.

I am a little put off by the lack of movement during melee animations too, I felt stuck to the ground, unable to dodge, or run around the player as I attacked. Not to mention the camp cloaks and the terrible voiceover. when the flag is captured/dropped.  Plus, the flag sticking out of the back of the player as he runs with it. Come on, are there really no other ideas they can think of for fun pvp?

    sigh... next! > war...

  • DignaDigna Member UncommonPosts: 1,994

I think both will have their followers (I'll be in both camps myself). The AoC patch from yesterday should show some very nice performance in a lot of folks systems (or at least a lot more than before) and I suspect that after this weekend's opened up PvP and the screenshots/movies that come from it people are going to salivate even more.

I know people with shit systems that get a steady 30-40 fps. Either you didn't play after the latest patch .. or your system is screwed up.

Your hardware seems really inline with the requirments of WAR. I hope it was worth the money, since you are planning to play

a game that looks worse then WOW, with ugly  hand made animations that looks like a game from 2003.

is there a reason that players believe this is an 'us versus them' thing?

we all want a GOOD game to play.  good means it plays well on that person's computer.  good means it's FUN.  good means it's NOT a j.o.b.  good means that it's FUN.

why all the 'us vs. them' mentality?  are aoc servers going to war with war servers or wow servers?  fanboi-ism is dead.  fanboi mentality is the same sort of thinking that causes dogs to poop, smell it, think "hmm food" and then eat it.  THAT is what a fanboi does.

we don't need fanbois.  we don't need 'us vs. them' in the player world.

if there's problems with a game for some players, it's an 'us (players) vs. them (game company)' thing.

    that is ALL there is.

anything else is wrong and probably a fanboi, like what i described.

i despise games with "end game" raiding; because it's a cop-out on the part of the gaming company, it's a timesink, it's BORING, it forces me to hang out and listen (on vent/ts) to basement dwellers and children whine about mommy for hours on end.  but if some people like that, fine, whatever.  but, i can't tell them they're stupid for liking it.  i CAN believe they're stupid for liking it; but, if THEIR game is jacked and they're unable to play it -- i should support them in wanting to be able to play the game THEY enjoy.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Well keep in mind that AoC's "open beta" costs money to get into so it's not technically open.  You have to subscribe to fileplanet just to get a chance to download a key.  Seems kind of shady to me.  WAR's open beta should be better because they postponed in order to make sure that the game was more complete.  I'd be very disappointed if it turns out not to be true.

  • gorgukgorguk Member Posts: 165

Ok your all wrong about having to pay for open beta. you can download it at file planet for FREE but you have to wait in a que to download it (paid members dont have to wait in que). just make an account (the free one not the paid upgrade). i downloaded it for free, i just had to sit in que for like 5 hours lol but i still got it.. an uninstalled it about an hour after i downloaded it.. but still i got it.. FREE:P

  • Jerid13Jerid13 Member Posts: 465

yes several days after they made you pay for a subscription to get the open beta key they gave away a boat load of the keys for free.

Way to make everyone who payed for the key feel like a retard!

I agree with everyone who is asking why all the hate?

    Aren't we all gamers?

Why is it when someone raises a concern about a game immediately they're flamed?

And why is it the instant someone compliments a game they too are immediately flamed?

I think its the amazingly small egos people seem to have, where they gotta log on and blast people they don't even know so they can get their kicks.

    Pathetic.

Personally I'm looking forward to AoC, and WAR,  and yes even Darkfall

(waits to be flamed for having all three in one sentence)

Jerid man, it's the unwritten rule of the mmo genre. Thou shalt not play more than one mmo at a time, thou shall bash horribly the previously played mmo and hate anyone who plays it, thou shall be a blind fanboi to the current mmo being played and ignore all it's faults by saying such phrases as, " Go back to WoW, or in WoWs case, "Go back to Runescape".

What you are doing, going to play AoC, War AND darkfall? WHAT?!?¿¿. How can this be? you sir are an abomination of MMO ethics and fanboism!

I can understand why some companies don't want open betas now, it's a double edged sword. But I do hope WAR has one, that will be a good sign, showing their confidence in their game.

This will be the normal trend fro new MMO's. People are looking for a game to replace life and when "hyped" game turns out to be just like an MMO, our addicition and thirst for that 1st high remains.

True. These fair weather game fans are something we don't need.  They hype up a game until NDA is removed then flame for a while.  Then they move to the next game.  I wish they would just pass us by as they are not doing any game a service by raising expectations and negative reviews.

LOL, that is total BS! The consensus on AoC is that is a fun game; but the open beta has some bugs and you need a decent pc to run it.
Plus I have seen MANY beta leaks saying that at least right now, AoC is way better than Warhammer.

Quit lying. Saying I have seen many beta leaks only says that you aren't in either beta and think that by saying "I have seen many beta leaks" makes your word credible and end all. How about some substance to your claims?

I have seen many beta leaks and WAR looks  alot better than AoC. AoC looks like it plays like a console RPG. WAR looks fun, has depth, revolves around PvP, has more stlye and class, and will run on 90% of consumer's PC's and not 10% like AOC.

If you switch the order of your 2 paragraphs, it will look like you're talking to yourself. Way to tell others to step off the pooper while you got shit between your cheeks.

I played both, and WAR beta is in a better shape than AoC (and that means it is better now than the AoC release client).

    Leak enough for you?

Lost and depressed, where are the good MMOs at?

AOC will do fine, it s patch did help not hugely but helped. That said i still keep trying to get into that game and i just can t. It feels so same old same old, and the pvp is terrible. So many overpowered classes, and the fights reminds me of a FPS they don t last long at all. Its too much button mashing for my tastes. Anyways AOC won t fail but compared to WAR i would venture to guess 1/4 maybe 18 th of the population. This is a guess but i m going on what i ve seen and WAR caters to a much wider audience.

  • I like the direction WAR headed in PvP. Capture cities, help aid your cities up to tier 3, attack cities that are tier 3 and take them over, pillage and loot, set houses aflame, capture keeps for your guild. I just think that's kind of fun. AoC looks fun as well, but it seems more revolved around PvE. I'm more of a competitive player... so I like PvP and quite frankly, I think AoC PvP look dull in that category.

The reality is that whenever people try to trash and not discuss the merits of the subject matter which in this forum is WAR, you know that something is wrong...

I notice AOC and WOW mentioned here/ games have to stand on their own merits shame that for some reason you think WARs success is dependent on a game that has no Market share.

AOC failure = WAR success seriously twisted logic, very very amusing.

Sorry, that is a FLAT OUT LIE. the Warhammer closed beta was in such bad shape 3-4 months ago that many of the closed beta testers left and uninstalled the client because of mythics unability to listen to the testers and  overall bad support. I was one of the many who left in disgust. Why exactly do you think they extended their release.. again?

Seriously... The only lie I'm seeing is your comment. Im not gonna break the NDA, and the game will speak for itself when it launches.

What does 3-4 months ago have to do with now? and you admit you havent played the game for 3-4 months and yet still claim to know the current state of the game. How can you know that is so if you havent played it in so long?

Sounds like the only one spinning lies is you pandrax.
