1)bugs? this game has hardly any bugs for a newly released game 2)eq2 was instanced...didn't see anyone complain 3)pvp is only a bit of a gank at lower levels 4)combat is better than most mmo
Game is only instanced heavily in Tortage, outside of that the Cities are not, everything is Zoned though..Which I have no problem with...Just like EQ2, just much larger.
1. severe multiplayer limitations (only 48 people per zone)
2. Bad Community
3. Bad implementation of PvP without rewards and punishments
4. little armor customization
5. smaller than average zones with non functinal backgrounds
6. Some classes are in dire need of repair (taunt is next to useless for tanks)
7. Exploitable system (traders turned off because two days before official release a guild figured out how to dupe money on the system...not a good sign)
8. UI is very poor. Huge icons, clumsy hotbars, small hotbars, huge windows (this has been fixed by 3rd party UI Modders)
9. Chat system is very poor
10. Guild operations very poor. Currently you cannot promote anyone. Its easy to get kicked out of a Guild (there is a chance if you crash, you get kicked from the guild. If this happens to the leader then the guild is screwed since there isnt a promotion system in the guild or an automatic promotion whenever the leader leaves)
11. Starting area restricts you to a very linear approach to questing for the first 25% of your total character progression.
12. Fatalities is flawed. If you are fighting multiple mobs and you do a fatality on the first person, the other mobs will get free swings at you because you are doing a cinematic move.
13. Limited harvest areas for those who harvests things post lvl 20
14. Having to wait until lvl 40 to craft.
15. Siege warfare is flawed when you can only have 48 people in a zone.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
anyone who rates this 1-5 : - hasnt played the game Highest character is lvl 39. Another character in their 30s as well - cant play the game cause of an old computer 8800 vid card, 4 gigs of ram, quad core, 2 TB HD - game runs poorly 50 fps in a dungeon with a full group of people fighting multiple mobs - is having issues with vista/gpu No issues here.
i give it a 'first day impression' score of 9.

Overhyped, a lot bugs and very instance based game.

1)bugs? this game has hardly any bugs for a newly released game
MOBS disappear depending on how you are looking at them. Some beginner quest bugs where you cant talk to key people. But not typically a lot of bugs compared to newly released MMOS
2)eq2 was instanced...didn't see anyone complain
Key thing here is this: In EQ2 you can have 350 people in one zone before they make an instance. AoC the limit is 48.
3)pvp is only a bit of a gank at lower levels
lol, no its not. Im 39. I see it all the time.
4)combat is better than most mmo
Some will agree some will disagree. Ive heard good arguments on both sides of the fence. People for the combat said its new and invigorating with combos you can use to fight with. Others say its just putton smashing that is eerily similiar to a company that is gearing up to put it on a game console

As for mobs disappearing, the solution some have found is to up the far distance drawing. Besides, I've only encountered it twice. I suspect it's a server-side issue and not a render issue because I've seen mobs literally in front of us 'drop' into the floor and then pop up where they should be. I expect data systems and infrastructure not to be 100%, so please don't give me that excuse that the game is bad. The fatalities I agree with you on, sometimes they seem like a bad idea when you got a horde of zombies tearing on you, but what I noticed is that fatalities give you a total HoT which tends to be greater than any potion or spell. So I tend to never die (At least so far) when I get one in a swarming fight. As for PVP not being rewarding, I expected that as well, because there was talk that they're trying to finish it up. Personally, I prefer there to be no reward/punish system if it isn't finish. Granted Eidos should have waited another six months, but at least the title came out in a working condition far from others I've played. In the end, I think those that don't like AoC are entitled to their opinion, but to demand from FC what they want is insane when they are not paying anymore or have never bought the game. Beyond that, they're just whiners that want their cake and eat it too. When you get 30 million dollars to throw behind a development project, then you can call the shots. Until then, buy it and like or don't buy it and don't like it. There's no real inbetween and there's no right to play any game for any reason in any consitution of any government anywhere.

Edit: as for your Michael Savage quote. If it's in jest, LOL. If it's serious, read Bastiet and the Law and the real liberals, because I have little interest in talking to anyone that listens to such tripe from Michael Savage who is only a doctor in nutrition and think it true.
Instance and Zone are not interchangeable words, folks. Instance is a copy of the same map. Zone is the "map" the area youre in... where all the mobs, beautiful scenery, and blood is.
I gave it a 9/10. Everyones bitching about it being dull and linear in Tortage... perhaps its because the "new" hasnt worn off, but Ive played the opening bit about 8 times so far, up to go into into the city. And havent gotten bored yet.
Combat is fun, it makes you pay attention, unlike all the other MMOs that are click-shoot/whack heal/bandage/potion/die-repeat. Its still that, but done in a different way.
Having read all the whine-threads, I have to say that 90% of the trolls havent played the game and are just repeating whatever the last troll said. The game doesnt stay solo after your reach tortage. You only go solo to do certain quests. I was surprised by this because I was expecting Tortage to be a ghost town except for NPCs and myself (solo), and having it stay that way until 20.
You start off solo til you get to Tortage, then you go into a sorta Guild Wars-like zone/instance setup. And then for some of the quests you switch to night time (solo), which makes a lot of sense if you stop trolling and actually think about it. Night time, everyones asleep except the guards, why would there be 9000 players running around when everyones supposed to be alseep? I havent go into this part yet so I dont know if all the npcs are there still or not... Id like it if they werent.
Theres only two reasons why I didnt give it a 10.
1. Funcom needs to grow up and stop acting elitist about certain things (thats an opinion btw). They need to work on their customer service.
2. The main reason why I didnt give it a 10 was because I had to install it twice. I couldnt get the spell animations to show up the first time, and then I had to uninstall my graphics drivers and reinstall them over the top of the game (so to speak), so the game was forced to recognize the new card type... not sure why that worked but it did. And Im loving the animations. Its either that, or for some reason, the animations and fire and all the pretty effects are linked to the "Mature Options" toggle. Which I had turned off because I dont really care to see globs of blood on my screen. But if I have to uglify my game to turn that off, then Ill suffer with it on...
Ive heard whines and groans that the spell effects are just animated gifs... or look like animated gifs... O.o Ok... all the spell animations Ive ever seen in any game look like this.
Furniture isnt sit-able.
Cloaks cant be hidden like helms can.
Theres no drinking or eating animation.
Stygian girls have too few hair and tattoo/facial marking options.
Another thing that mystifies me is why devs feel the need to remove things that have no impact on the game... maybe perhaps to cut down on file size... but they could offer them in a patch. Like I saw alot of different tattoos and face decorations on Stygian girls in beta, but theres few on live. >.>
AoC should at least rate a 5 for most players. The release was decent and there's really nothing game breaking. Having said that, AoC really doesn't offer anything new outside a few gimics.
I'm waiting for Funcom to implement sieges and larger (read more than the proposed 48 players) PvP. If not, it'll be WAR for me.
Really, AoC isn't a bad game just kinda 'meh' so far.
Ico Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
12. Fatalities is flawed. If you are fighting multiple mobs and you do a fatality on the first person, the other mobs will get free swings at you because you are doing a cinematic move.
I don't get this yet. I've performad fatalities on one mob while two others were whacking me, and my health and stamina bars filled up much, much faster (due to the fatality +regen effect) than the two mobs were knocking it down. I net-gained health by the time I swung again.
I could see this being a PvP issue (though if three guys are whaling on me, I'd likely be dead before I killed one), but is this also a dungeon issue or something?
I would say an 8, game is awesome but it does have a few small glitches here and there. Still needs some performance fixes(memory leaks, etc), and a lot of quests/minimap/ui/chat bugs. But the gameplay is a lot of fun and makes up for those few glitches, there are no game breaking bugs or anything so it works perfectly fine. As soon as a few patches come out this game will run even better.
Seriously how much of a troll does someone have to be to rate a game like this a 1 lol. I gave it a 8 atm from my time in OB and since launch. The game has ran smoothly for me so far and I'm enjoying it but a couple things do bug me. First there should be a penalty for gankers, I don't care what the penalty is just something to discourage someone 10 or more lvls above me from killing me for no good reason. Secondly the instancing while not what I would call a deal breaker for me, but it is a tad annoying at times. Other than that I've had a couple nights where I looked up and it was 4 am(sign that I'm addicticted).
anyone who rates this 1-5 : - hasnt played the game - cant play the game cause of an old computer - game runs poorly - is having issues with vista/gpu

LOL this guy says 1-5 haven't played the game then says he gives it a 'first day impression' score of 9. HAH! classic fanbois.
How about anyone who rates this 1-5:
- Has played the game more than 'first day impressions'
- Doesn't like instanced games
- Doesn't like small linear zones
- Thinks the combat is a gimmick which becomes dull REAL fast.
You know what becomes dull real fast? Clicking a button every 5 seconds to watch my character take a piss. Combat is much better in AoC then other mmos.
About to ding 20 and get out of the starter city. Level 10-15 I was ready to quit, but am really liking it again. Some rough edges and the story is meh, the FFA PVP is fun, and the combat is different enough to be interesting. Cut scenes are rough, but at least we have em.
Game is an 8 imho, would have been a 9 with more polishing. Again I can only speak of the 1-20 experience.
