1. severe multiplayer limitations (only 48 people per zone) 2. Bad Community 3. Bad implementation of PvP without rewards and punishments 4. little armor customization 5. smaller than average zones with non functinal backgrounds 6. Some classes are in dire need of repair (taunt is next to useless for tanks) 7. Exploitable system (traders turned off because two days before official release a guild figured out how to dupe money on the system...not a good sign) 8. UI is very poor. Huge icons, clumsy hotbars, small hotbars, huge windows (this has been fixed by 3rd party UI Modders) 9. Chat system is very poor 10. Guild operations very poor. Currently you cannot promote anyone. Its easy to get kicked out of a Guild (there is a chance if you crash, you get kicked from the guild. If this happens to the leader then the guild is screwed since there isnt a promotion system in the guild or an automatic promotion whenever the leader leaves) 11. Starting area restricts you to a very linear approach to questing for the first 25% of your total character progression. 12. Fatalities is flawed. If you are fighting multiple mobs and you do a fatality on the first person, the other mobs will get free swings at you because you are doing a cinematic move. 13. Limited harvest areas for those who harvests things post lvl 20 14. Having to wait until lvl 40 to craft. 15. Siege warfare is flawed when you can only have 48 people in a zone.
wow, sounds like you're lvl 80. so how long did it take you to level to 80, complete endgame, compete in pvp minigames, siege a keep, build a city, join a guild, oh and.. explore and experience everything the game has to offer? because it sure sounds like you've done all that.
Not lvl 80 yet but I am more than halfway there. Also, 12 of my closest guildmates are between 72-76 and they're not too please with the endgame right now. We already have a city and ive participated in city attacks so far. And Ive explored about 75% of the world so far. So yes, I have done all of that!
When your favorite MMO of all time was released, did it have everything it has today? And your favorite MMO of all time Did infact announce those late-added features pre-release, right? ...
Of course it didn't, but it had substance from the very beginning. The substance just needed to be ironed out. Haven't found much substance in this game. Also, when I first go into a game and see tons of instances in every game i know through sheer game mechanics this probably wont be changed much. Im not a sucker for 5-35 instances in every zone. Its not my cup of tea.
If your favorite MMO was in the same or worse state as AoC, in the release days, why aren't you there talking about how bad it was when it came out?
My favorite MMO was not in a worse state that AoC is. You think Im talking about techinical issues here. Im not. Technical issues can be fixed easily. AoC has very little technical issues. They have substance issues. Thats a little harder to fix. My favorite MMOs, whilst they all suffered from techinical issues at the beginning all had substance befitting to a Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying game. They simply added more as time went on.
AoC, in my opinion is lacking substance. Loot is bad, armor is bad, stats makes no sense as we have no character stats to base them off of, no sense of a big world as many of the zones are linear and about 30% of every zone is nonexplorable as well as a multitude of instances in every zone.
Oh.. and.. you CAN promote people in guilds, hell, half the stuff you posted isnt true, is misconceived, or is just completely twisted and turned.
Not on some of the guilds at first you could not. Search it on the tech forums; it was a common occurance. <sarcasm>Yeah, im lying lol.</sarcasm>
Untill you've experienced it FIRST-HAND, as in YOUR OWN ACCOUNT, YOUR OWN CHARACTER, YOUR OWN HAND, YOUR OWN MOUSE, YOUR OWN COMPUTER, seeing it WITH YOUR OWN EYES.. don't believe what people tell you.
Ive been playing this game since EA. I have a lvl 44 Conqueror, a lvl 30 Tempest of Set, a lvl 16 Necro, and a lvl 18 Barbarian. I have played this in my own account, my own character, with my own hand, with my own mouse, with my own computer and with my own eyes. Lol, what the heck are you talking about? Lost me there, man.
I've experienced a lot of those things you posted, first-hand. And I can say, from First-Hand experience, that out of the things you posted as facts, that I've experienced myself, are all untrue or are only partly true.
That's your opinion. And my opinion is I disagree with you.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
I gave AoC a 6...maybe it deserves 6.5 or 7 like MAX but not more, and no i'm not a troll.
Whoever rates AoC as a 10 or 9 is because....
1: Haven't played many mmorpgs, just F2P mmorpgs.
2: His/her brain cells have been damaged when launching the game.
The game is far from a 10 come on...if some people say 1/10 rating comes from trolls...10 rating aswell come from trolls.
Currently playing...nothing, since there is not any great mmorpg atm, but i've played many mmorpgs (P2P and F2P). Waiting to see how Aion and Chronicles of Spellborn are...other than these P2P i don't find anything else worth it to play.
i gave it a 7. still a beta really but as with every MMO (whole basis behind MMO's is) it can be improved with patches and expansions. give this game a month or two and it should be fine.
MMO wish list:

I gave it a five since the game is only giving me an average amount of fun. This is a game I will come back to in a few months after they make some tweaks and such and give it another whirl.
AoC as pc mmorpg is mediocre, tho it'll be good for 360 when the console version releases.
I don't really know how that many people subscribed to AoC...maybe because there haven't been many released P2P mmorpgs lately while the ones in the market are getting already old to start all over nowdays.
Well at least it's my opinion, i just didn't like it but i bet lot of people love it, just a matter of tastes.
This is nothing more than a bunch of WoW and WAR fanbois who feel threatened because AoC poses a big threat to thier community. Im sorry children wake up and put the cartoons down its time for a mature game in this genre.

Here's to the world-famous mature playerbase AoC so proudly boasts of!
I would give it a 4/10. Not for the technical issues (I am already used to the 10 FPS hit I have in the city) or for the lack of certain fundamental MMORPG techniques like a decent Auction House available on launch. The 4 is because Conan is NOT the way future MMORPG's should handle the worlds. MMORPG's are OPEN to be explored, they are played to LIVE in. MMORPG's are NOT boxes in which you hop in from closed box to box and do some lineair quests. MMORPG's do need seamless worlds (or at least give the impression). In 2008 MMORPG's don't use 2D rocks and trees to block your path. They should be about exploring, NOT by following a rather narrow path between 2D borders. MMORPG's don't need talking NPC's, because the talking of the players is all that's needed ! In game videos in an MMORPG are futile. They are needed in off line RPG, but in on line games they are useless Talking with other players you meet ON screen should be as easy as clicking on that player's avatar. It's the PLAYERS who make the worlds in MMORPG's, not the ingame video of NPC's and standard quests.
ROFL tell that to DDO.
oh, and where do YOU see 2d antything? hmm? I've seen real 3d trees, i havent seen anything resembling a wall besides a MOUNTAIN rofl
and no im not joking or being an idiot, i seriously havent seen solid walls with 2d tree textures on them, you know where i HAVE seen everything you complain about? DDO. Maybe youve been playing a turbine game.

Well DDO was following the lore and how you play D&D quite well! I didn't mind the mass instances there cause thats how you play it!
As an outsider looking in I have to say that the detailed discussion is very helpful. I only recently picked up the scent of AoC and have been looking for reasons to buy it but refuse to do so until I am satisfied that I will not be wasting my money.
Like others have stated here, I expect a mmo released in 2008 to be eclipsing previous mmo's for it to earn my money. From what I have read I will be keeping the wallet closed for a month or two and then re-evaluating it, but some 'features' do sound permanent enough (fixed pathing for example) to put me off for good. I hope that FC make good on their claims for the game content and that end-game content in particular is worthwhile.
In the meantime, I look forward to reading more 'discussion'

oh man.. have you been ill informed... rofl, gimme your email i'll send you screenshots of the MASS OPEN world and the 'DO WHATEVER YOU WANT NEXT' system that every real mmo uses rofl, its all over the place
i've yet to be anywhere but a specific mountain pass where i couldnt go any direction i wanted rofl, or do whatever i wanted rofl, roads are wide open, theres fields, no fake walls lol, thats no joke. Maybe there are zones out there that are set paths,, like carved into a mountain or something but every game has them every so often (WoW - Deadwind Pass)

The World follows a very linear quest line , to very instanced areas , you cannot walk from one city to another the overland world does not exist. This is not a massive game it is a single player game with limited side games, which allow guilds to compete against each other arena style. Some Raid instances at endgame , and siege instances limited to 48x2.
Lots of invisible walls you can only zone at entry and exit not the edge of any of the zone instances. Not an open world, the world is pretty but as far as challenge s go there is none here very simple hand held game mechanics.
Anyone who values their time will not last more than 30 days... no challenge no game very very poor

Heh, thank you for the offer, bachanam, but I don't think a screenie of a wide open place will do it the justice you seek. I would need to try it for myself and the tide of negative comment does seem to be swaying in the direction of 'not that massive'.
The fact that there are more than a few people on this forum alone that have several complaints of the game mean I am a little sceptic of the quality being delivered by FC. I wish I had access to the official forum to see what was going on there but I'm not wasting money just for that privilege either. Like I say, best to wait and see the state of the game in a month or so.

I gave it a 5. I feel it doesn't suck but it certainly isn't great. I do sort of like the game and will probably continue my subscription past the initial month because I like to log into it for half an hour or so every once in a while. I really enjoyed the tutorial but after that it has become boring. Resource gathering is a joke and I can't stay interest for long enough at a time to level to 40 to see the crafting. It is fun to log in and whack stuff for a little until it bores me again.
I give the game a 3 for effort and 'innovation'. It doesn't deserve higher than a 5 (you're too young to play AoC if you rated it as such), and it doesn't deserve a 1 as it's still somewhat playable.
Everything that was playable was not enjoyable for me.
The next time an over-hyped game with obviously exaggerated claims is developed and released, I'll first wait for a free trial before I foolishly feed the media machine. Funcom did not deliver and I'm personally disappointed in their chosen approach to making games 'fun' (forget everything but combat and graphics).
This game was marketed to the wrong audience, as gimmicks and pretty graphics are not something a mature crowd typically demands from a game (myself included).
It seems like the AoC development team put forth a lot of effort into their concept but ended up producing an admittedly beautiful, however thin shell. Beauty is only skin deep, and AoC has no substance under all the fluff.

I have mixed feelings.
I love the graphics and the brutal feeling to the combat. Some of the finishing moves are great, and the sound really works well with the visuals.
Gotta agree about the lack of world. I can't imagine wanting to play alts and I'm already worried about the games long lasting appeal.
Still, having fun at the moment and that is what's most important.
