The mistake this guy is making is that he equates necessary presidential experience with time spent in Washington. He says even the other picks whom he considered to be bad (Quayle and Ferraro) were in the US Congress when they were chosen. I would argue that not being in Washington is an asset. And the fact that she is a governor gives her more executive experience than Obama.
Four out of the last five presidents had been governors, not members of Congress. The only thing that concerns me is that if McCain wins, she would have to move to that slime pit which is Washington D.C.

That is the very first thing I thought of. I sure hope the slime that is washington doesn't rub off on her. She seems tough though.
Obama and Palin: * Obama has 2 yr experience in the US Senate -- Palin has 2 yrs experience as a state governor * Obama represented a state house district in IL -- Palin was mayor of a city and was a city council person * Obama has is a total party man, voting around 94% with the Dems -- Palin has led the effort to have several Repubs removed from office or at least investigated There's a good bipartisanship and a bad bipartisanship. Palin-
"Sarah Palin has been governor of Alaska for just a bit over 18 months. Alaska has a population of 683,000. (Though that doesn't include moose.) This would only make it the 17th most populous city in the United States. Just ahead of Fort Worth.
Before that, she was mayor of Wasilla, Alaska. Population 9,000. I know Republicans like to promote "small town values," but this is taking things to ridiculous extremes, don't you think? I'm from Glencoe, Illinois, population 8,762. It's so small it doesn't even have a mayor, it has an appointed village manager. I'm sure that Paul Harlow is doing wonderfully at his job in the village - but I don't expect that he sees himself as even wanting to be a heartbeat from the U.S. President in 18 months. You know what the top news story is on the Glencoe website? "Fire Hydrant Painting Underway." (To be fair, it's the #2 story. The top news is a clarification about displaying political signage.)
Do you know what the first two "powers and duties" are for the mayor of Wasilla, Alaska? Check their municipal code:
1. Preside at council meetings. The mayor may take part in the discussion of matters before the council, but may not vote, except that the mayor may vote in the case of a tie;
2. Act as ceremonial head of the city"

On another note, you're comparing Obama's oratory skills to Palin? Are you kidding me?

Look. This is mine and a hell of a lot of democrat's 2cents on this.
If McCain, by some miracle actually gets elected, he could die. It's not that far-fetched. He would be the oldest president with a record of illness. I mean Christ.. can she even find Iraq on a map? She even said herself that she "hasn't really focused that much on the war in Iraq". Can she stand toe-to-toe with Putin? Can she prepare this country to compete economically with China and India? Can she safely get us out of Iraq? Can she stop global warming- something she doesn't even believe is man made?! This self-proclaimed "hockey mom"?!.
It makes me sick and it makes me terrified. You can call McCain a maverick all day but in the end he thinks this die-hard extremist conservative with zero experience or exposure to anywhere except her tiny isolated state could be president at the drop of a hat.

woman hater.
i could say the same things about obama and they would be exactly as untrue. and make as much nonsense. obamas gonna box putin? if you ask her how many states there are will she get it right? barrack doesn't know..but i guess ha can find iraq on the map because his kids didn't play soccer..
It's a huge gamble, no doubt...I hope for the sake of the country that it works out for him.
I also find all of the ranting and bashing on this woman to be a little bit funny...as if you even knew her name before today, and now everybody is an expert on her...priceless.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

Nierro!.... Sit back and take a deep breath. Formulate your argument and give YOUR honest opinions. Don't get so involved that you go crazy. Put it in prospective. Your one vote or my one vote is not going to change the election. (if you are 16 you arn't voting). I am dissapointed every election cycle because I am from a democratic state.
Look. This is mine and a hell of a lot of democrat's 2cents on this.
Looks like McCain got the right VP pick..These guys are in panic mode
Panic mode is throwing gambling your election to change the media coverage. Panic mode is announcing it after a historic and amazing speech that gutted you. Panic mode is throwing out your only legitimate arguments for the off chance that you'll pick up a few votes in a ridiculously specific demographic. By the way, Hillary supporters are pro-choice and anti-gun control. So good luck. Also, Palin called Hillary a "whiner" during the primaries. I'm sure that will help too.
I'm not panicked. I'm pissed off. I'm pissed off that McCain thinks women are so stupid that they vote based on body parts rather then logic and I'm pissed off that McCain says "country first" while potentially putting a soccer mom as the leader of the free world. And I'm pissed off that the media bought into all of it.
The mistake this guy is making is that he equates necessary presidential experience with time spent in Washington. Yeah.. you read maybe 2/5ths of the article?
Uh, no I read the entire article. But thanks for quoting me because it gives me the opportunity to say something else that I missed while reading it. If that guy thinks that Palin is the worst Vice-presidential pick in US History, then in that vein, Obama must be the worst Presidential pick in US History. He's arguing that the issue is experience, and has already been abundantly demonstrated, Obama has no more and probably even less experience than Palin. I'll look forward to seeing that article on his blog tomorrow.

In all fairness, Nierro, I can say the same exact thing about Obama...and he's running for President. Obama has had very little experience to even be considered to run for President.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

Palin doesnt appeal to most Hillary fans - they are insulted that McCain picked someone as a stunt to sway Hillary voters. "We chose Hillary for who she is and what she stands for... not because she is a female". Not only did McCain's stunt to attract Hillary fans fail, but now he is stuck with a vice president whom McCain met with only twice prior to choosing her (on their second meeting). Hot tempered McCain usually never invites new people to dinner, let alone nominate them to be vice president.
Unless there is some huge fatal mistake or votes being counted incorrectly, McCain is going to lose and Obama will be our next president.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. The fact that so many Democrats on TV and many of their allies in the media are attacking Palin tells me that they see her as a real threat to the Obama candidacy. The truth is that if she were a non-factor, they would be treating her pick with a yawn and moving on to the next story.
And that's pretty much how Biden's pick was treated. It was announced, analyzed briefly and then pushed off the front page. No real shake-up there.

...and Sarah Palin. Self described "hockey-mom". Okay. Fine.
Arguing experience is like apples and oranges, and thankfully we don't have to do that anymore considering John McCain just acknowledged that experience isn't that important of an issue.

Unless there is some huge fatal mistake or votes being counted incorrectly, McCain is going to lose and Obama will be our next president.
In all fairness, Nierro, I can say the same exact thing about Obama...and he's running for President. Obama has had very little experience to even be considered to run for President.
You see no difference at all?

Actually I got it from a blog and not an e-mail, and I didn't know it was misleading. I'm actually embarrassed. Whatever, you're Republicans. You guys pull this kind of thing on a broader scale every election cycle..

Yeah, I know.. but they were impressive statistics, and I had no reason not to trust the guy who wrote them. Obviously too impressive.

Hehe...maybe people are talking about it because...umm...it was just announced yesterday, and the campaign people are responding as campaign people should?
I'll give you this much though, McCain got yesterday the only thing Palin can give him as a VP pick: a morning headline. That's it.
The Democrats aren't worried, but they aren't rolling over to die like the Republicans are this year.
McCain will lose this election because the rank-and file doesn't want to fund him, and his base threatens to sit home in November because he's "not conservative enough." This has caused his campaign to do stupid things to get the card-carrying Republican rank'n'file to the polls...like nominate this woman, losing all credibility with normal people.

Obama; During the first (8) eight years of his elected service he sponsored over 820 bills. He introduced
233 regarding healthcare reform,
125 on poverty and public assistance,
112 crime fighting bills,
97 economic bills,
60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills,
21 ethics reform bills,
15 gun control,
6 veterans affairs and many others.
His first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427. These inculded
**the Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 (became law),
**The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, (became law),
**The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate,
**The 2007 Government Ethics Bill, (became law),
**The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, (In committee), and many more.
In all since enter the U.S. Senate, Senator Obama has written 890 bills and co-sponsored another 1096.
Palin-
"Sarah Palin has been governor of Alaska for just a bit over 18 months.
1. Preside at council meetings. The mayor may take part in the discussion of matters before the council, but may not vote, except that the mayor may vote in the case of a tie;
2. Act as ceremonial head of the city"
From the article I linked earlier.
On another note, you're comparing Obama's oratory skills to Palin? Are you kidding me?

woman hater.
i could say the same things about obama and they would be exactly as untrue. and make as much nonsense. obamas gonna box putin? if you ask her how many states there are will she get it right? barrack doesn't know..but i guess ha can find iraq on the map because his kids didn't play soccer..
Looks like McCain got the right VP pick..These guys are in panic mode
I bet your a regular DKOS reader.
DKOS is a vile site isn't it! One thing you never seen before the internet is all the vitriol out there.
Huffinton post is right there too.

Yeah.. you read maybe 2/5ths of the article?

You see no difference at all? Illinois state legislature, constitutional law professor, senator, able to get more people to tune in for a political speech then the finale of American Idol and the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony, able to inspire crowds of hundreds of thousands in countries where our flags our burned..
...and Sarah Palin. Self described "hockey-mom". Okay. Fine.
Arguing experience is like apples and oranges, and thankfully we don't have to do that anymore considering John McCain just acknowledged that experience isn't that important of an issue.
