as a consumer you should consider the option you have to be far more pragmatic in your choices. If you want to take something on as principle it makes far more sense to do it on a subject that actually has some level of meaning.

In short, I dont care what someone promises me in the gaming industry, I either like THE GAME or I dont. I dont care about the promises, customer support or the company. JUST THE GAME. if there is a better GAME out I play it instead.

Actually, it is AVs fault. They failed to give players a reason to leave their cities. They also failed to anticipate the macroing that would happen and put in place checks to make sure that users could not gain skills from doing it. Even a simple check of a players location in the world every few seconds, and if they hadn't moved, disable skill gains would have prevented much of what has happened.

They could have added things into the wilderness that guilds would want to fight over, such as towers that when controlled give your guild increase skill gains, or access to the rare ores, etc...

You start with  "I'm not a hater" and every statement follows contradict  that.

"Fallout 3" is not even a MMO.

That is kind of like saying its not the murders fault the guy died its the polices fault for not stoping them.

Although I dont think its not at least part of the fault of AV I think game players that do not take the sprit of a game into account are more to blame and I do not consider them true gamers.

I'm glad you brought the fact that Fallout 3 is not a mmo to his attention. Thinking Fallout 3 is a mmo could be why he finds mmos dull. Perhaps now he will love Darkfall and forget about AV's awe inspiring example of how NOT to develop and release a mmo.

Not saying these games are bad but I will say I dont think its the target demographic of Darkfall which in part maybe an advertising mistake by AV for ever using the word "hard core" if they in fact ever did.

Alright, I'll start out with the standard disclaimer that I am not a hater per se, but more a cautious skeptic. At a bare minimum I would wait until an NA server was actually implemented anyhow so I try to stay out of a lot of the back and forth that goes on until then. So, that out of the way....

This is where I see te original question leading. Each answer can be turned as "well you are not the target demographic". And this is not to say you are using that as a tool to devalue other's opinions, but I don't think people on this site are so black and white as more casual players. I would think, for those people who go out of their way to discuss games on a forum specifically for MMOs, that they may have a broader range of tastes (though this is obviously not a hard and fast rule).

To answer the original question, I currently play EvE. I can only ever justify paying for one sub at a time, so that is all I am playing. I enjoy the ideas of territorial control and conflict, the crafting/invention, exploration (probiing and wormholes) and the different career paths (or mixes of careers) that you can embark on. In the past I played SWG (obligatory Pre-CU clarification) which I enjoyed for the crafting and skill system. I was a Master Ranger most the time and enjoyed some PvP there, but also made a living as a Master Architect where I could play the whole game without even picking up a blaster (one of the options I feel a 'sandbox' allows).

I also played FFXI and WoW for reasonable amounts of time and enjoyed them as well. I don't think I am a unique and special snowflake though and that I somehow posses an unheard of ability to enjoy a diverse range of games.

    OP: No flame intended but…….

Surely you jest, you title a post as you did for what reason???Not to seek a game that has more content that much is obvious, or you would have placed more appropriate title to the post. Instead you post, DF haters so you can pump yourself inflated ego for your wanna-be hard core buddies. After playing the game for a while you openly admit that you’re looking for another game but,,,don’t want to put a hole in with your click and be labeled anything negative. Yea, the game gets old, just say shipmate, its ok, you do not have to follow the wanna-be crowd. DF is a good game with a bad backing which trashed the whole system and will continue to do so.

On the other hand, now that you have attempted to label yourself as a wanna-be follower, you continue to find the game….dull but nothing better that you know of (other than regular multi-player games) give you that feeling. Its ok, there are many players who have gone before you. As scary as it may seem, it is ok to admit that the game has flaws, be a strong hardcore player.

This has nothing to do with stupid ego or product loyality. I personally love DF and I am most likely the least product loyal person on the planet.

For me, I am just trying to get a baseline comparsion to what other people are talking about when they say they hate this game.

So far it appears to me that the group of people who dislike this game are heavy instant action pvp gamers. WHICH IS FINE! DONT TAKE IT PERSONALLY I am just trying to uderstand what the baseline is.

I very seriously think the people who do not like this game are taking the views of those who do FAR TO PERSONALLY>

I'm not sure I see the relation. The original question was "What game are you currently playing?". In your response you made a statement that, to me, indicated players of one game were not the target demographic of another. My only point was that that response is really the logical progression of a question like that for a game that has such polarized opinions being voiced. It seems like "Niche" and "not the target demographic" have become tired cliches for whenever someone claims to dislike the game. With that in mind, the members of this site (in my opinion) are more likely to cross "target demographic" lines to experience quality game play.

Now, all that said, i don't think the orignal question asked if the game sucked, was great, or landed anywhere in between hence I answered the question with my gameplay experience which, hopefully, also served to illustrate that target demographic isn't neccessarily easy to nail down in this genre yet.

Well, first your identification of “DF hater” is grey in terms. Do you mean that a DF hater is someone who chooses not to play the game and be called a care bear??? Sounds like you ran out of ego playing the game because you want someone else to tell you what a better game is…as you have indicated, “I am a consumer and as a consumer I will not think twice about switching to a better game AND I would perfer if people helped me out in selecting one. As if you are constitutionally incapable of finding a game you enjoy on your own, therefore, you have allowed whatever resources to convince you that you really like the game….until someone else comes along who sounds more “wanna-be” and justify your playing. Ultimately, after reading your post I ask myself, “if he is soo happy playing this game, why is he looking for a game that is….better?”

I am not sure I understand why so many gamers take it personal when someone likes this game.

Its like the relgious folk that are just furious if one person on their city block is not relgious and might want to go see a movie they find offensive

Sorry, some people (and if it makes you feel better, a minority) actually like this game. Try not to take it personally.

if it makes you all feel anymore comfortable I assure you we get 10 times the hate you guys do.

No one that I know has indicated that they take it personally that someone enjoys darkfall. Nothing personal but, the OP comes on and indicates that he is looking for a better game and is unable to decide upon his self to conclude that. He then comes into a different forum asking those who hate that game which game he should play. I have to ask if he posted similar questions on the DF fourm, and if not,….why? Nothing personal but that is the basic definition of a wanna-be hardcore player, in that, he must rely upon someone to tell him what game to play and enjoy. I say enjoy that game, if his resources indicate that DF is “THE GAME” then go for it, why come here seeking a “better” game????? He loves DF and there is no reasologically to come here and say, “hey all you people who hate DF, please help me find a game that is more enjoyable to me.

ok, speaking personally everything you just wrote sounds to me like someone who is directly involved in the contest of who plays the bettter game.

I agree, the OP sounds as if he is seeking a more popular game yet, the statement stands, I have yet seen anyone report they were, in anyway, upset that a person would enjoy DF. I agree with you on self proclaimed labels such as hardcore whatever that is suppose to mean as compared to a carebear…whatever that is. Therefore, I am lost when the game identifies itself as “hardcore” which appears to draw such gamers as OP to the site and ask for help finding better games that he would enjoy…titled DF haters.

I think you missed it. I , like him, am not asking what the "more popular game" is. I, like him, am asking for a baseline comparsion so that we can more clearly understand what aspects of other games people do like that this game does not do.

When I ask the question I am 100% honest in the question. A LOT of people dont like this game, I like this game but I am not so proud of myself to entertain the possiblity that maybe I have missed a game that in fact I would like more. knowing what is wrong with the game doesnt help me try to find out if there is a game out which might be more intresting than i expect

People have answered the question and I have looked up the games, it just for me, the games listed didnt appeal to me.

    Is this more clear now?

As far as people saying they are upset with people who like DF do you seriously think I meant people say that literally? most people who would feel that way wouldnt even be concious of it

I don't think anybody really hates the players that like darkfall except for a couple of exceptions. Those exceptions would be due to the lying and stupid posts they spew. If you enjoy the game that is fine.

    as for the topic:

I play EQ, EQ2, Vanguard and now starting AION. These are my casual games. With that said, I'm looking to play a good "Sandbox" game. However this game while having sandbox features does not allow the freedom I am looking for. Since I cannot make the character I want or do the things I think a game like this should have for features.

With all cities having the same resources available and world banks. I find little reason to want to seige another city. While I love PVP I want reasons to battle. So far I find none in this game except for ego, and sorry that is not enough for me to play it.

While full loot is fine. That is not enough of a penalty for me. Dieing should be rough but just losing loot that can be replaced in a short period of time is not a penalty for me.

Since there is no burden in this game such as if I wear full armor but can move like someone naked makes me not want to play this game. Watching fully armored players running as fast as a robed player is a turn off for me.

Being able to get every skill in the game is a turn off for me also, I want skill caps that make me choose what I'm willing to sacrafice to get what I want. I want magic skills I have ot lose sword skills for an example.

These are my opinions. Now does that mean no one could like Darkfall? No, it just means the game is lacking for me and by appearances, a lot of other potential players.

correction: All cities DO NOT have the same resources avaiable. City mines and foundries are not possible in all cities. Additionally, i think there is one city with a wonder.

I played EQ2 for 9 months and I like DF better.

What I didnt like about EQ2 personally was the following

    1. graphics

    2. literally everything was quest based. impossible to play game without questing.

    3. nothing in DF even comes close to the grind of high level crafting in EQ2

    4. crafting was somewhat lmited compared to what I would have liked to have seen (not compared to other MMO's). Example: team built and team used catipult!

I will say this, a DF version of collection quests would get people out into the DF world which is pretty sweet place to explore.

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

He loves DF and there is no reasologically to come here and say, “hey all you people who hate DF, please help me find a game that is more enjoyable to me.

ok, speaking personally everything you just wrote sounds to me like someone who is directly involved in the contest of who plays the bettter game.

as far as me personally i cant express how meaningless it would be to call myself anything whatsoever. let alone a "hard core gamer" whatever that actually means I dont even want to know.

Then we circle around and I ask, why do you come to these fourms, label a post “ DF HATERS” and ask for a game that is better? Obviously, DF haters, who I am not one, will give you examples of why they do not like that game as compared to the ones they like. They will tell you what they do like which is not found in DF. If you seek to find a better game, why is it that you come here and ask those who hate DF about other games that may be better??...as if they would know what you like! In short, there is something wrong when you seek a base line about a game from a site that you are fully aware of which does not like DF and make sure to address those that do not like it by title of DF haters.

Furthermore, you state, “When I ask the question I am 100% honest in the question.” Then you make a self imposed fact that people get upset when they learn of others who enjoy the game. How am I supposed to know the difference when you make such claims? If you come on to a site that is not DF asking what people who hate DF like when it is obvious that they are DF haters,,,,whatever that is. Why don’t you just try another game that looks interesting to you and let the DF haters be? Better yet, go to the DF fourms and ask the question there? Or would your ego take a hit?

Would this entire conversation and debate be resolved if the title said "for those would dont like DF what are you playing instead"?

I played EQ2 for 9 months and I like DF better.

What I didnt like about EQ2 personally was the following

    1. graphics

    2. literally everything was quest based. impossible to play game without questing.

    3. nothing in DF even comes close to the grind of high level crafting in EQ2

    4. crafting was somewhat lmited compared to what I would have liked to have seen (not compared to other MMO's). Example: team built and team used catipult!

Well thanks for the correction. I was going by what I have read on that.

See I love the graphics in EQ2. But we each have our own opinion on graphics. I like the world graphics of Darkfall but hate the animations I see.

I like quests but also like open worlds like in Second Life. What I really enjoy is lore. So far from what I have read thhis game is on the low side for that. I know your suppose to make your own, but I would like a good starter base to go on.

For the grind on crafting I think that is also based on opinion. I like the crafting in EQ2, I liked it more when the game first came out and you had to make all the sub-components. or buy them from other players. But I like the way it is now also.

Now I agree with you on the collection quests, Right now from what I have read and seen, a lot of players just seem to hang out in the cities instead of being out in the world.

My question is if you have this big world to explore, why does most seem to hang around in the cities?

I am fine with everything you have said! which is odd for me.

I think people stay in the cities for two reasons.

    1. the whole "hard core pvp" insanity has attracted highly competitive people who only care about winning and will do whatever it takes to win. best way to win is to macro and grind. EDIT: actually I think people are far more afraid to lose then they are wanting to win.

    2. outside of the meer fun of exploring geography and artistic design (which I like) there is no in game reason to explore whatesoever. Which is why I think they need a collection based solution. this would get people out more and this would increase the PvP intrest.
