darkfall isn't that great of a game thats a fact. people hate on adventurine not darkfall. all the hate towards the company is mostly warranted. get over it
repeat that?
darkfall isnt that great of a game. People hate AV not darkfall? I am not following that could you clean that up a bit?
I see what you're attempting to do there, but it won't fly... and it's a pretty weak attempt, to be honest.
Saying Darkfall isn't that great of a game is stating an opinion. It's not "hating on it". I know the fans around here don't see it that way, considering anything negative said about the game, AV or Tasos to be "trolling" and "hating". Unfortunately for you, it's not the case.
Also, what Frostbite says is true... Not all, but several of the people here target AV and especially Tasos... Going into broken record mode again here, but several of us have said - for months now - that we find the concept of Darkfall to be quite interesting, but flawed in execution as has been pointed out by people who are playing it. What we don't like are the people behind it, how it's been mishandled, the hype, the spin and the lies - especially from Tasos.
What I'm wondering if or when the fans are going to stop pretending to not know the difference, and will stop labeling any criticism as "hating on Darkfall".
welp, it's not so much the fans, as it is the fanbois. fanboi mentality is a cult. takes a lot to change cultists' minds.
Yeah.. my bad. I usually make sure to put a qualifier in there to separate the rabid fans from the normal ones, since I know not all are like that. My mistake :-p

there is an unusally high amount of untrusting posters on this board.
no, I was very seriously confused about the two words that seem to contradict themselves is all. No hidden agenda or trap.
given the type of gamer I am its often very hard for me to fully understand where people are coming from on the points regarding the company that created the game becuase in ALL cases for almost 30 years of gaming the company that made the game is something I have never cared one cent about.
Ahh, well if you weren't trying to pull a fast-one here a la "certain other posters", and were genuinely looking for clarification, then I take it back.
Basically, I believe (and I know it's true for me), that the reason people care about the people behind it is because when you decide to invest time/money into something, you want to know that what you're getting is what's advertised. When the people doing the advertising fail to deliver on everything they've promised it makes you second guess that company and whether or not it's wise to continue supporting them via their product.
Several people here alone, myself included, are interested in DF and have been following it with some interest because - at least speaking for myself - I do like open PvP MMOs and was intrigued by much of what I read. Unfortunately much of what I read about, on the site, in interviews with Tasos, etc... does not represent what's in the game they've provided. They've carried on with very shady tactics since it "launched", they still haven't gotten their billing system sorted out apparently, Tasos carries on like a whiney brat when someone says anything negative about his game... It's just a bad scene over there.
If DF were in better hands and being managed by people with more experience, and a PR person who knew when it was best to keep their mouth shut (which in Tasos case, would be almost all the time), what to say and what not to, and who was capable of speaking more than 5 sentences without lying or grossly spinning the obvious reality of things... I think there'd be a much different overall "tone" around here.

I can understand that to a point.
However here is how I differ. I had a long conversation with someone last night who said that they would in fact quit a game that they enjoy playing if some feature that was advertised (even during pre-release) was not in the game.
This is one area I differ in. I am not going to stop having sex becuase the girl promised me just a kiss. If I am having fun I keep on going.
Now, second to that. The total tonage of BS that comes from game developers pre-game launch is massive and mega crazy huge. If I gamed out of prinicple I would never game much at all outside of maybe Diner Dash.
When I leave home from work each day I consider myself lucky if I can find something to do that is fun. I am not going to remove that fun factor time because some game company promised something different.
Now as I have stated here many times before I very crystal clearlly and exactly understand the points everyone has been making to me without any deviation or misunderstanding whatsoever.
The question at this is however, does anyone understand my point? regardless of if they agree with it.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

Now, second to that. The total tonage of BS that comes from game developers pre-game launch is massive and mega crazy huge. If I gamed out of prinicple I would never game much at all outside of maybe Diner Dash. <<< um, a website listing game features SHOULD be fairly reliable. at least to the point where they DON'T cut 90% of the promised unique features and still show all those features 1+ months post retail release.
When I leave home from work each day I consider myself lucky if I can find something to do that is fun. I am not going to remove that fun factor time because some game company promised something different. <<< seriously, have you been following darkfall for more than a couple of days? they have cut out the majority of features which were advertised. this is NOT the game that was advertised.
Now as I have stated here many times before I very crystal clearlly and exactly understand the points everyone has been making to me without any deviation or misunderstanding whatsoever. <<<um, reading what you typed above; and from other of your posts - it does not seem you understand what other folks are saying.
The question at this is however, does anyone understand my point? regardless of if they agree with it. <<< that you're new to darkfall and don't understand exactly how huge a chunk of features have been cut from the game? nope, that's coming thru loud & clear.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
I, SEANMCAD, understand that many of your are very upset that Tasos and AV did not deliever on the game as they had promised. I understand that his makes you upset enough to leave the game and not play it.
I, however, do not select to stop playing a game based on what a gaming company says, promises or delivers. I play a game based on if I am having fun. I use the adveristing as a general guideline but I personally do not take it as set in stone. I do however quit when I am bored but as it is I enjoy the act of playing DF and will continue to do so until I am bored.
I personaly am deeply sorry that things have turned out as they have for you with your DF experience.

That's great - you find what they've offered fun for you.
Have you ever played a sandbox-style MMO?
The things that were promised, and didn't make it into the game or don't work properly in the game, are some of the classic sandbox elements that people wanted to experience in Darkfall.
In short, AV "promised" a sandbox game, with sandbox features, and they did not come close to delivering on that. The people that wanted to play an actual sandbox game, as DF was advertised, are disappointed by that fact. For real sandbox fans, the game is indescribably shallow.
It has nothing to do with holding a few random missing features against them. It has everything to do with Darkfall coming up really short in being the type of game it was touted as being.

This is just silly. As a quick and dirty anecdote; SOE has twice revamped SWG to a point that, while the game looks similar, it is not the same game. So, at what point do you start caring what the publisher/developer said? After your previous efforts have been completely devalued?
Funny thing about MMORPGs that you don't realyl get in single player games; In MMOs, your effort persists and your character develops over a long term. You build a reputation and relationships with other players. Therefore, previous efforts are cumulative and part of future enjoyment in many cases. When these are pulled out from under you, would you start caring then? That was rhetorical question btw.

1. when do I start caring about dev notes? never really. I do however care when I am bored with the game I am playing
2. If single player games had the same depth and breath as MMO's do I would play them instead. So no, I really dont care about forming long term gaming realtionships

You're not familiar with the term "rhetorical" are you?
I didn't ask if you would play single-player games or MMOs. I stated one difference between MMOs and single-player games for the sake of illustrating that past effort does impact future gameplay. Grinding skills, whether you choose to call it that or not, is similar in that the effort you put in today affects tomorrow.
Now, again, using SWG as an example, an expansion pack was sold on the promise that nothing was changing based on what was in said expansion pack. Within days, the whole game changed making the expansion pack fairly worthless in many aspects. So much so that the company went on a refund campaign, as many speculate, in order to avoid litigation.
So, that said, if you chose not to listen to the developer/publisher, thats your call. For those who strive to find long-term enjoyment in their online gaming experience then history is the best teacher. While you may choose to be willfully ignorant of the changes happening, or being planned for your game, it is in a player's best interest to pay attention to this information and determine if it will impact their long term enjoyment. Additionally, with a small company like AV, it is doubly important as you will likely not find too many situations where your thoughts and opinion might actually contribute to the planned, or occuring, changes in the game.

I can see your points and I understand your points. My personal experience has been that the best way to get disapointed in life is to pay attention to pre-release pre-patch promises in the gaming industry.

My experience has been that signs of dishonesty should not be dismissed just becuase I am having fun right at this moment. If I were playing a game solely for instant gratification, which is what you are describing and seems to be your aim, then sure I would only care about having fun now. I play a game to build my character, build my guild/corp/clan, and develop in-game relationships. If a developer shows signs that can only be described intentional, or worse still, incompetent, dishonesty, then it will certainly raise questions as to the level of enjoyment I would get from the game given my playstyle. I don't think I am alone in this given the number of other people who cite this as a concern and I think sandbox fans in particular are sensitive to this.

well, tbqmfh - you should care about dev notes.
if you're "exploiting" the new AE system in COH, those dev notes are what told you that you'd lose characters/get banned/whatever.
in DF, if you're swimming against the wall every night, or afk'ing at a wall of pain - those dev notes are what told you that doing those things can/will result in bans and such.
what the hell does 2 even mean? are you talking about single player games or MMO games in your "don't care about forming long term relationships"?

that is fine I have no issue with that. I am different.
I dont want to add to much to confuse things but FOR ME..its very important to me to have the actual act of playing the game be fun for me. This includes the actual act of building my character. For me its the process, not the goal

ah BUT. I had a conversation last night with a gamer who made it extreemly clear to me and we backchecked our mutual understanding more than once that IT IS about the broken promises.
and he made it clear to me to our mutual understanding that its NOT about fun or lack of fun.

i guess if someone hasn't played any pvp type mmos for the past 12 years, nor played any FPS games; then MAYBE darkfall would seem all crazy new and revolutionary and having wonderful crafting and whatever.

This is one area I differ in. I am not going to stop having sex becuase the girl promised me just a kiss. If I am having fun I keep on going. <<< i believe sex is a LOT MORE than a kiss. darkfall has cut out several dozen UNIQUE features... so an accurate comparison to darkfall would be that you were promised sex, and what you got was a handshake

TO ALL:

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

I am assuming that your experience has been that most companies are very reliable in that area of information. My experience ahs been different engouh to take the stance of "have fun now"

I don't think I am alone in this given the number of other people who cite this as a concern and I think sandbox fans in particular are sensitive to this.

well, tbqmfh - you should care about dev notes.
if you're "exploiting" the new AE system in COH, those dev notes are what told you that you'd lose characters/get banned/whatever.
in DF, if you're swimming against the wall every night, or afk'ing at a wall of pain - those dev notes are what told you that doing those things can/will result in bans and such.
what the hell does 2 even mean? are you talking about single player games or MMO games in your "don't care about forming long term relationships"?
stop posting please.

that is fine I have no issue with that. I am different.
I dont want to add to much to confuse things but FOR ME..its very important to me to have the actual act of playing the game be fun for me. This includes the actual act of building my character. For me its the process, not the goal

"we" aren't. you seem to be. seriously, i don't know where the disconnect is, or what you're talking about in most of your postings. you're just typing random things that really don't apply to darkfall and then go on a nitpick rampage cuz someone said a word you did/didn't like.
wtf, honestly.
most of the "haters" of darkfall, don't hate the darkfall that was advertised for the past decade. they "hate" the random generic bullshit that darkfall has now.

sounds like it.
i guess if someone hasn't played any pvp type mmos for the past 12 years, nor played any FPS games; then MAYBE darkfall would seem all crazy new and revolutionary and having wonderful crafting and whatever.
dunno. i've played lots of online games, be it strategy, fps, mmo, whatever... darkfall offers nothing special. i speak from experience.

Sean,
Neither this thread nor any other, on this or any other forum, is about you.
Yet,
Every post you make, it's about you.
Having an opinion is one thing.
You don't exactly express an opinion.
The tone of every one of your posts is about you.
Either you really are as naive as you come across.
Or you're the BIGGEST troll on these forums.
I really don't know wich, but I don't believe someone of your age can be that naive.
