I've played SWG a lot... So with that being said, all of that means absolutely nothing because even though I like Aion right now, it like many other games I've played COULD become a heaping pile of dung. However, I'm still liking it now and like the direction it's going with PvP. I can't stress this enough about Aion, but DAoC to me had thee best PvP style gameplay of any MMO I've ever played and Aion is looking very similar. DAoC never got boring because it was designed very well in the beginning. Mythic Entertainment made a decent first expansion, than puked out a worthless almost game wrecking second expansion. After that, DAoC almost made a comeback with classic servers. If Mythic hadn't allowed people to play on all realms for each server / cluster, I believe DAoC would still be going strong today. So as long as Aion doesn't screw up too much and get off the right track with their ongoing game development, it will do just fine for ooooh, I'm guessing 3 years. It will need to be re-reviewed after that time.
so your initial impression is better than yours with AoC or WAR?
It's very possible. Even I am in 1.2 Chinese version now and I enjoy the game a lot, but there is a posiblity here. After Honymoon period is over, peopel will start complaining. Look EVE online as crapy as it is, there are still people playing, even WAR still have a lot of followers. 1.3.1 seems will trun the game around, so you never know.
ROFL - I hope your as sarcastic as I was in my post.
EVE is a fantastic game if you take the time to learn how to play it. Its learning curve is very steep though...
When I am crafting in Aion, I play EVE in the back ground. EVE is very easy, it did not take me long to learn it. Don't glorify the game.
Please tec. Eve is one of the hardest mmo's to learn. Again its not hard to learn being a carebear in high sec mining like a mindless drone. Everyone should listen to someone who plays a game in the background. Stay in high sec and off forums.
Off topic, but was this graph made by a 12 year old? Unless you're involved in some advanced physics, time shouldn't depend on anything.
The one reason I think this game will be successful is because it will no doubt have a smooth launch. Because of Aion's beta and launch in Asia, most of their beginning bugs and whatnot will be fixed by the time Aion rolls around in September. No memory leaks, plenty of content, great graphics on low end systems, virtually no bugs, and a very smooth interface will allow this game to succeed. I have not had a single problem during my time in Aion betas and look forward to its release.
The launch of an mmo is so crucial to its success, and if everything goes as smoothly as I've experienced in Aion betas, Aion is going to do great.
At the moment taken from time in the game I would say yes, only difference I can see is that it will fail faster than AOC or Warhammer. There will be less gripes about the game but many people may leave the game early never to return.
lmao nice graph... i think its obvious that its a joke considering it doesnt pass the vertical line test =] anyway... i think people who spend more time on mmos do get better at them.... honestly i'd expect a level 50 to be "better" than a level 10. just because it takes so much longer to get to max level
EVE is way over rated by it's cult members......err players.
The reason people say that EvE is hard is because you are always going up against a human opponent. In games like WoW, Warhammer and Lotro you spend 60-80% of your time against the AI. The AI can never replace the complexity of the human brain and its ability to adapt and find innovating solutions.
On topic yes, Aion will have a hard time breaking into the western market. Eastern game culture is wastly diffrent. And Aion is heavy on the item grind and highly competetive at the endgame. Fighting over Boss spawns is not something the Instance Raiders are used to. Only time will tell if they will embrace it or not.
At the moment taken from time in the game I would say yes, only difference I can see is that it will fail faster than AOC or Warhammer. There will be less gripes about the game but many people may leave the game early never to return. There again I would love to be proven wrong.
The problem here is that people aren't understanding the defnition of fail.
It hasn't failed. It's doing great. It has a HUGE following. Because of this NC's stocks have gone up quite a bit. Stocks don't go up on a failed game. And it's been out for almost a year now.
Just because people don't like it, no matter what their reasons and even no matter how valid those reasons are, the truth is that it is a success.
Will it have millions of subs in the West? I don't believe so. But it will do well enough for NC to continue putting money and effort into the game.
Conan Launced with issues, Warhammer, fun as I thought it was, had issues. Aion? Well, other than people not like it's gameplay, it's pretty stable. Some are having lag issues. And it's caught earlier enough for the preview events for them to look into it.
Whether people like the game or not, it's a financial success, and for those who enjoy it the game is a success.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Considering neither AoC or WAR have failed...I'm confused about your point...... You mean will Aion have 150 to 300k subs thus being an average mmo? Or do you mean that the mmo players who 'wish' that Aion will beat WoW in subs will fail in their attempt at predicting the future?
Unless you have VERY low standards, yes, Warhammer Online has failed.

LOL, this graph is +1 but, i see your graph and raise you this graph +2 pts. http://mmodata.net/ click the top 10 link.
I look at it like this......... If AOC, Warhammer and Aion were all to go public on the same day, and I had to choose one game to play, then Aion would be my last choice.
Even with the bugs lack of content and overall shitty SHITTY standard AOC and WAR have shown to its fanbase ? If i got to beta all 3 (and i did) id pick aion hands down.
Of course i didnt go into the beta thinking Aion is a PVE masterpiece because its a PVP game and always will be oriented for PVP if you dont like PVP games then thats you but some people do.
Oh and Aions target audience despite being a PVPVE game is not to capture the PVE players in wow, eq, eq2 or any other PVE oriented game, but it may get some of them players it wont take many of them at all for very long. Fact is this is a PVP game it will get players from other PVP games maybe people who PVP in wow dont like it anymore or from other PVP games. If this game gets 1 mil NA players id be suprised as hell because it is a niche game that it will catter to the PVP crowd end game and that is what most will see and well PVE players wont like it and will leave.

I would say that the game has failed when the company behind the game starts to pull money and resources away from the game.
The thing with Aion is the timing. It is being released at a time were most people are looking for something new to play.

Sounds familar kind of like when WOW came out. People were looking to try something new after SOE royally fucked eq in the ass.
Why should it fail? It's the same familiar and safe type of mmo's that have been around, there's not much new but the setting.
That of course for some players will be the "fail" aspect if they really are only looking something unique and new. But i think the world itself is unique and new and that the game itself is solid and safe for any mmo-gamers out there. I've liked it so far and will keep playing when it comes out.

Its good you have the other two to choose from then, at least you will for awhile as i look for Warhammer to start closing servers soon and when Aion releases i think it will sound the crack of doom for Warhammer.
the things that make wow have the subs it does are the very things i despise in wow, its too easy, theres no way to distinguish yourself from the lame people that love the game to death anymore. as far as aoc and war both games had their good points but they also had their downfalls, for me war pvp was ok but if you wanted to get some levels in pve it was atrociously boring, in aoc the pve was brilliantly executed but good luck having fun in aocs pvp. so far from my aion beta weekends ive found the pve enjoyable and had fun working on how to beat people in a dueling aspect of pvp, havent had enough play time in on any class to make it to the abyss, but it looks to have the feel of pvp where the team that heals and supports its healers better will clean up the loose zerglings that are out to get the kill shot for themselves. (hopefully all those in the group will get a nice split of the pvp points for targets said group brings down)

With aion you dont have to worry about the polish of the game. It runs better then any game ive ever beta'ed period even on low end PCs.
I had a really loud LOL at this.... hahahahha.

And it's also meant as humour and not to be taken seriously.

Yeah, just like WoW failed, amirite?
...Except Aion is polished and already has more content.
Uhh... what?
It will not fail, it's already doing great in Asia,no? Hasn't it technically already not failed?

Very low standards? Prior to World of Warcraft, a 300k subscriber base WAS the benchmark for a successful MMO.
I mean, who doesn't want to rake in 4.5 million dollars a month?
Expenses aside, that's still a lot of cash.
Your first MMO was probably WoW so you have no real perspective.
In conclusion, just because a game isn't as rabidly successful as WoW doesn't make it a failure.
Apparently though, in your opinion it does.
