So the subscription numbers were absent in the lastest financial quarter, the results were just above Lineage 2 and the western Beta figures at Xfire only show around 200K trial players. More than 40% under what Aoc and War showed in Beta.
You understand Aion's beta happens every 2 weeks for only 3 days? how would xfire even track that info as being reliable, If the data is only for 6 days of a whole month??
SO BY YOUR XFIRE CALCULATIONS AION HAS 1 MILLION TRIAL PLAYERS . AWESOME.
You sir fail, and i have proven your failure again.

As a matter of fact, I take the trial periods to compare users trying it as they did with War and AOC.
The most played Beta period (number of concurrent users) came from AoC, followed closely by War.
War had even an initial higher number of players than AoC in Beta, but it became very odd the latest War Betas were less played than AoC's. War already had a declining trend IN game with the Betas. Always a very bad sign.
This rather unhealthy trend is shown by Aion at this very moment btw. So NCSoft has to put everything up to create the same magnitude of War and AoC launches.
From the launch start itself, 4 years of launches show us that around 30% are willing to pay the subscriptions (at 180 dollars a year).
So Aion is now on target to launch at 400K according to what we see. This could result in a western subs base of around 150K max after 3 months (when free play and the first months subs expire).
It is quite easy to track games and their successes on line. Ask Mark Jacobs, the man must have hated Xfire.
Your xfire calculations are based on Aion's beta which is only being played 6 days out of one entire month. So by your xfire calculations Aion has 1 million beta testers .... )))
As to "aion is out yet" its been out for almost a year, its just that you carnt play it. Or are all those millions of subscribers just paying beta testers. WAR, AoC and Aion are in reality of "simliar" release vintage. Its laughable that the aion fanbois compare Aion 1.5 as the aion release to that of WAR 1.0 and Aoc 1.0. Given the development of both WAR and AoC all 3 games are compareable to each other. .
I am going to have to disagree with you there. I have a current AoC account, 3 level 80's, have done all the raid content including killing Levi, done plenty of sieges on both sides..... basically, I have done everything AoC has to offer.
Now having said that, the beta version of Aion that I have been playing the last few weekends (which is not 1.5) is well beyond AoC in content as well as stability. I have not had one crash to desktop while playing Aion, nor have I seen mobs or even complete zones bug out to the point where they are unkill/playable.
I have alsomuliple 80s done all the raid content and over 100 seiges, currently dont have a problem with zone stabilty and have never had a crash to desk top.
And like i said my experience of the last 2 betas was unplayable dur to lag spikes and constant rubebr banding
If you have never had a crash to desktop from an OOM error, but have mutiple 80's and done over 100 sieges, then you have never actually played AoC.
What server do you play on? There are very few guilds that have even participated in over 100 sieges total. Not saying I don't believe you, but I don't believe you.
To the original question, no I do not think Aion will fail. I don't think this game will be the end of all of games like some are claiming/hoping, but I believe it will do well. I hope that NCsoft does not over estimate its numbers post launch based on preorders since I know quite a few people who have or are going to cancel their preorders at this time.
Cheers!

Everyone keeps saying that the new patches will be launched when Aion goes live. Has anyone tested these yet? Everyone knows that new patches bring a few bugs....If it hasn't been tested, I don't think it will be as smooth as people claim it will be. Especially a new patch which hasn't even been released in the Eastern market. I could be wrong, and, according to my husband, I usually am. I'm happy to see other games released. It broadens the market, but the claims of the holy grail seem a bit far fetched.

Maybe he just started playing it recently? I would imagine by now they've fixed the majority of the issues. He certainly wasn't playing that game the first six months it was out though that's for sure.
He has multiple level 80s so we know he's been playing at least a couple weeks. If it was just one I would say a week or two but multiple means he's probably been playing for about a month.

There are quite a few bugs as it is in my opinion right now. More than I would have expected from the way some talk about how "smooth" things are. I think their launch may go okay but not as smooth as some would like or one would expect seeing how the game was already released over seas.

All i need in AIon is 1 server i can play on that can keep me entertained. wheter it be 10k subs or 10 million. You only see the numbers on you own server anyway, the rest is irrelivant for playability.
It's not irrelevant for updates, customer support, and bug fixes. Not irrelevant at all.

to me, it fails as a game, simply because it plays like a free to play mmo: clunky character customization (beyond the glitzy aesthetic stuff), nothing like talent trees or specialization beyond the vague archetypes "assassin" "ranger" "sorceror"... boring gameplay (nothing beyond pvm and pvp) uninspired storyline (oh look, another conflict which NOBODY CARES ABOUT! it has angels and demons too, yippy!)
I guess that's fine for people who have never played an rpg or an mmorpg, but for everyone else... it's getting old.
other things:
- Very linear leveling path, you are assigned to zones... and if you don't like them, tough!
- Grinding, yep, plenty of grinding, koreans just seem to love it, clash of cultures type thing i guess.
- Horribly kitschy art direction, While I somewhat enjoyed lineage 2, this is just over the top, borderline little girls fairy tale book.
- Nothing new! While it cannot be said that aion fails in any respect which it attempts, it does not really attempt anything, sticking to the safe, boring, tried and trusted features which have made other games a success. There is no bite to anything, just another androgenous, homogenized, saccharine looking playground for people afraid of going outside.
All in all, I think it's a step back in mmo development, while it is true that innovation cannot be the staple of an mmo on its own, it is also not something which it can be without: aion does not even attempt to innovate in any way, and before anyone says "flight", it's in other games too, the developers in it just weren't stupid enough to let you fight while mounted, because it ends up playing and looking like men in suits fighting, flailing around like spastics.
In short, yes, Aion faces the same fate as Age of Conan and Warhammer Online: it will fall by the wayside, in the bargain bin... and only the delusional fan boys with nothing better to do will tout it as the messiah, and i wager to bet that even they won't be happy playing it, converting would-be followers is far more fun eh?

This game has a lot more to offer than either of those games do. I'm not going to go into the issues with AoC or Warhammer for the umpteenth time because its a separate topic within itself. Aion is probably not going to be the top dog like some think or wish but I see it doing a lot better than Warhammer and AoC in the long run assuming they do a good job updating and managing the game.

This game is boring and its combat system + skills are absolutely dull. But it works unlike WAR and AoC so yeah... FFS GW2 WHERE ARE YOU?
And why does AOC and WAR "not work" ?? they dont have any more problems than the million other mmo games out there at the minute and dont quote me the gliches and bugs because that shows you just played the game for the 30 days at launch because there is hardley any noticable ones in there now and i dont think guild wars is perfect peps only play it because its free after buying the box
I guess it depends on your definition of fail. Based on what I would guess would be their business model the game is already a success. Aion is not being targetted towards the Western market like Warhammer and AoC were. Rather Aion's business model is likely much more like Lineage and FF11s business models where they make their money from the Asian market first and foremost and only add a little extra from the western market. With Aion's success in Asia already and the fickle nature of western PvP players the safest place to concentrate their energy is Asia with our market just being a small added profit. The question is will they support the game better in the western market than they did with L2?
Are you smoking something? Must be good. Either that or you are very ill informed. Aion was built from ground up to appeal to the western market.
Also, do you even realize how important the west is? The west isn't "Add a little extra". EVERY western subscription is equal to about 4-5 korean subscriptions. Yes, we westerners are LOADED on the value of our currency compaired to china or korea... If the west is able to rake in even 1 million subscripers. That's the same quarterly income as if korea had 4-5 million subscribers!
While it may not fail as a commercial venture, to me, it fails as a game, simply because it plays like a free to play mmo: clunky character customization (beyond the glitzy aesthetic stuff), nothing like talent trees or specialization beyond the vague archetypes "assassin" "ranger" "sorceror"... boring gameplay (nothing beyond pvm and pvp) uninspired storyline (oh look, another conflict which NOBODY CARES ABOUT! it has angels and demons too, yippy!) I have the complete opposite opinion of you... and I've played "popular" MMO released over the past decade. I'd consider myself a "mmo" or "rpg" vet.
We all have a different opinion, doesn't mean any of them are wrong... you don't like it, fine - I do... so Ill continue to play, and you'll play whatever you decide.

AOC is only held back by its creators and Warhammer is one of the best games I have ever played, so I agree both work very well, or at least as well as the rest of the running.

Only problem with that theory is the sieging. Sieges have been crashing left and right since 1.05 went live and thus siegeing has basically died on all the servers and when attempted, rarely are played all the way thru due to crashes that reset the zone.
It is sort of interesting that Guild Wars 2 will be coming out by NCSoft as well. Assuming Guild Wars 2 still has the great PvP combat ect that NCSoft bragged about in Guild Wars.... they they will have a similiar target audience... Especially since Guild Wars 2 is suppose to be more like a traditional MMO. I don't really have a point, it's just interesting.
AOC is only held back by its creators and Warhammer is one of the best games I have ever played, so I agree both work very well, or at least as well as the rest of the running.
I don't know about AoC, but I have played Warhammer since release. Get serious.

Lineage III is still under development. And the two games are quite different in terms of game mechanics. That's why, despite Aion launching in Korea, it didn't affect Lineage II subscriptions.
Are you trying to tell me that you have played Warhammer from release and you don't even like the game?
Liking the game is a long way from "one of the best games I have played". It doesn't "work very well'. I tolerate the flaws (which are many) for the sake of the PvP.

I just finished the last 'closed beta'...I thought the game was nice...
But why didn't they just call it Lineage III?
/flame suit
I played L2 for a few months and the following similarities were immediately apparent:
Don't get me wrong, the game was fun. Similar to WoW's gameplay. I only had time to get 1 character to 10...but I enjoyed it.
The quests were well written and had a enthralling story line.
Lots of good stuff.
