Confirmed in just released PC Gamer Magazine!

Just read the article and its stated that TOR will play online like Dragon Age Origins instead of like WoW with a Huge Unique story driven campaign for each class and AI-driven companion characters that will accompany you on difficult quests. There will be PvP but the game will allow you to solo with AI if desired and not require you to group up with teenagers or maniacs that can shred your patience..

WoW its going to be awesome! Cant Wait! Bioware is set to redefine mmos, Dragon age was there test.

The Wow Killer has arrived!!!

So what will keep people paying 15 bucks a month? Its basically a single player game and not an MMO. Welp if this is true then that nixs me buying the game.

  • AndyPrestonAndyPreston Member Posts: 63

     Wow... amazing....

So basically, we will be paying monthly for a single player experience. What exactly is the difference between playing KOTOR I or II and this one, except that this will charge you a monthly fee?

All those people waiting with baited breath for a Star Wars universe that they can live in and share have just had their dreams shattered. Hate to bring up SWG, but anyone hoping it will be anything close to that sort of community experience are going to be very disappointed.

    Oh dear.

when they anounced this game they stated this , it was to more more like Kotor 3-4-5 and so on , just with this setup it will be easy to play with your friends and they can add content this way. from what i understand  the game will be more like DDO  , everything instances and just hubs where bunch of players can meet up.  im a Huge bioware fan  but this will not be a wow killer gets kinda old to say that about every single game that comes out. that said tho  this game will be no clone at lest

  • neonakaneonaka Member UncommonPosts: 779

    LOL this is hilarious.

Everyone knew this from the start, and it was the complaint everyone had. Why pay monthly fee for a single player game, I know I won't.

  • AndyPrestonAndyPreston Member Posts: 63

This has literally just killed this game for me.

Im not paying monthly for Guild Wars come Star Wars. BioWare have a cheek comig out with crap like this.

  • booskAbooskA Member UncommonPosts: 79

Worst news I've heard in a long time. I will give it the benefit of the doubt for now though.

Well soloers wanted a game of their own and well, here it is. Ofcourse you can bring friends with you but I wonder how many you can have in a party. One poster put it nicely, atleast this won't be a clone of any other mmo out there.

Honestly this gets me mad, if people want to solo, then they just piss off and play single player games offline.

The OP doesn't provide a link and you don't verify his claim, so I fully expect you to jump on the bandwagon. It's only natural. Here's what I found from my scrounging:

"Combat and dialogue in TOR plays more

like the Knights of The Old Republic games

than I had expected. It’s not exactly the

same, of course, and things will change

when we get our first companion characters

(since you can’t pause to give them specifi c

orders like in KOTOR), but so far the action is

fast-paced and feels distinctively like Star

Wars. Most of all, The Old Republic

feels like an attempt to build a

    bridge between the gameplay of

    BioWare’s traditional singleplayer

    RPGs and the new world

    of MMORPGs, with the ultimate

goal of settling into a spot that enjoys

    the strengths of both types."

Sounds a little different than what the OP posted, right? Either he's a troll or he was being sarcastic. Probably the latter. Claims like his have been made since this game was announced.

    Oh, and I have a link! www.pcgamer.com/pdfs/Jan10_StarWars.pdf

If this is true we can stop calling it an MMO. FFxiv is looking better and better.

If the game is enjoyable and provides good content. Then it is worth my cash. Dragon Age is an awesome game and knowing Bioware, the Old Republic will be a polished product at launch.

I think too may people had the wool pulled over their eyes when they saw the words STAR WARS + BIOWARE + MMO. For those not blinded by the announcement we saw TOR for what it was going to be and slowly others are now starting to see that as well. Why does anyone want to PAY for Star Wars Diablo when they can just wait and play Diablo 3 for FREE?

  • MechanismMechanism Member UncommonPosts: 143

They must have been half way through kotor 3 when someone said "hey guys lets make this an mmo!"

Why no one slapped him I'll never know

  • HEYuSHOOSHHEYuSHOOSH Member UncommonPosts: 107

This game keeps sounding worse and worse the more information is released about it. It's going to be kotor with co-op but you are going to have to pay $15 a month. There is going to be a lot of instancing and the game I'm afraid will probably not be any fun for me after the first few weeks.

Latest issue of PC Gamer- February 2010 issue (arrived in the mail yesterday)

"There are plenty of single-player rpg fans who are put off by the level-grind, cookie-cutter quests and forced camaraderie of the ever-increasing number of online rpgs, and these are the gamers BioWare seems to have had in mind when it designed its first mmo, Star Wars.  It plays more like Dragon Age than WoW, complete with a huge, unique story-based campaign for each of the eight player classes and AI driven companion characters that will accompany you on difficult quests, and it doesn't force you to saddle up with teenagers or maniacs who might shred your nerves and jeopardize your enjoyment."

Given that the last year has been filled with complaints against linear-storyline play and heavy instancing, this seems like a dicey direction for BioWare to be taking.  I can't really see people justifying a $15/month fee for this game, I kind of anticipate that they plan to launch with some other revenue system,  perhaps an optional monthly fee DDO style.

I read your post about four times, and thought it was just me being slow. But, seriously, at what point is the quote you provided different to what the OP said? Your quote states it feels like Kotor but online. Thats exactly what we are complaining about. We dont want Kotor but with the ability to play with 2 mates in an instance. We want a star wars universe with people to share it with properly.

So, it wasnt a bandwagon we all jumped on. It was BioWare who jumped on the Band wagon when they decided to pander to what they assumed was the majority when it came to opinions on MMO gameplay.

Indeed, if I wanted that single player experience  I would go play Dragon Age of Mass Effect. Sure you can bring friends with you but the way the story narrative plays out it seems it was not meant for group play. I dunno, I have mixed feelins about this game now. I just hope the instancing is cut to a minimum and yes, FFXIV is looking alot better.

Best news I have heard in a longtime. I can't wait for something new and refreshing.  Hope the PvP is like Jedi Academy that would own face. I also love the fact that a large company took a great risk in breaking the mold and I think they will do just fine.  This will attrack more than starwars fans imo.

You don't have to pay for it if you feel it'll be too single-player for you, what do I care?

EA charging the same for less by pretending less is new and innovative? Color me shocked... no, wait... that's pretty much just what I expected.
