If what the OP says its true then swtor its gonna be another crappy mmo..better yet..no mmo..another single player game..with co-op with a monthly fee..what a joke...
Would i pay 15 dollars a month to be able to play Dragon Age,Mass effect or Jade empire as single player game with an option to group with three buddies to some quests and be able to pvp against other players every once in awhile.Yes.Do i think Tor will be that limited? No
All i know half way through Mass effect and DA i wish was playing it with other players,I kept thing to myself this quest would be so much fun if i could play it an another human or i am getting bored of questing i wish i could do little pvp to pass time.Whether it is a MMORPG or MORPG i don't care i know it is going to be good game.
Yes, Star Wars: The Old Republic is a MMO, or “massively multiplayer online game”. Star Wars: The Old Republic will allow thousands of players to explore, adventure, and fight in a single game session.

that can be thought of very differently, they may be in a single session, it doesnt say together at all.. it can just mean online the same server together, but in different instances
I am intested to see this game because I welcome anything different then what we have been getting for the last 5 years. This seems like the direction alot of the future mmos are going now. I know most of the upcomming Asian MMOs will be like this.
Do people still flock to Horkathane's threads? This guy proclaims every game god of the future of MMOs, then decries every game as evil and failure later once it does something he does not like.
Star Wars: The Old Republic is the only game I am actively looking forward to at this point, but I am saddened to see we attracted Hork...

Whats your brief bub, I am the seer and I have been gaming before your father was born. I have been wrong...we live we learn, adapt and grow stronger and smarter. You are too quick to judge...
This response really takes the cake coming from someone like you. Just incredible. I can think of few others on this site who berate and belittle people in the way that you do. If someone happens to take the opposite side from you, to put it nicely, you are rude and nasty to them, and then play "Mr. Innocent" when someone comes back at your very harsh words.
CO was the last "WoW killer" that you believed was going to take the MMO community by storm. Before that came a long line of very solid "WoW killers" that you predicted would "totally own". Not to mention when you claimed "We dont need a SW mmo we got Galaxies and it OWNS right now". You made post after post insulting, demeaning, and verbally abusing anyone who thought differently than the MMO kick that you were currently on. I'm not even going to review your horrible history because someone else who frequents these forums did it much better than I could.
So without further ado, here is a very stellar list of Horkathane's previous predictions (comes from Kyleran, post #24)
I've been planning to get TOR since it was first announced to be in the pipeline but just haven't had the time to read up on the development progress. My take on this would be that Bioware would be causing themselves a lot of grief if they :
1. Limit every class to just 1 single story campaign (applicable to their respective class) - My guess would be that they may be talking about something like epics in EQ ? This would seem to make more sense since having a mmo that ends when one finishes their story arc just doesn't make much sense. So a player can play through the story arc while doing other quests perhaps ?
2. Companion limitations - My guess on this may be that one can have these npc companions tagging along but this may not mean that one can't just drop them in lieu of grouping up with other players.
To do otherwise would just mean that TOR would be a single player game, except online lol.
Everyone knew this from the start, and it was the complaint everyone had. Why pay monthly fee for a single player game, I know I won't.
I think too may people had the wool pulled over their eyes when they saw the words STAR WARS + BIOWARE + MMO. For those not blinded by the announcement we saw TOR for what it was going to be and slowly others are now starting to see that as well. Why does anyone want to PAY for Star Wars Diablo when they can just wait and play Diablo 3 for FREE?
Best news I have heard in a longtime. I can't wait for something new and refreshing. Hope the PvP is like Jedi Academy that would own face. I also love the fact that a large company took a great risk in breaking the mold and I think they will do just fine. This will attrack more than starwars fans imo.
Breaking the mold of traditional MMO gameplay does not mean putting a single player game online and charging for it. I know we're all just speculating, but reading the PC Gamer issue does take away from the initial excitement waiting for the game...

Exactly.
While I can see how people would say it is "Diablo 3"-like, Diablo games have not been very supportive of making online friends and doing things with them. MMOs are much better at that. Yes, the game is instanced, but that means they can dynamically increase the difficulty if you want to do a quest with friends -- this means unlike any other MMO on the market, the "solo" stuff can easily be done with a friend or two or three or four. Personally I look forward to playing this game with a number of friends, and it looks like it will support it quite well. I'm sure we'll also make more friends along the way, since there will be group-only content as well. They've also said there will be a crafting system and other traditional MMO elements, so overall I view this as immensely different from a Diablo-like game, even if it has some similar elements. This is to say nothing of the deep story TOR will have where you make meaningful decisions that have consequences...something Diablo-like games have NEVER had.

Exactly what? Because the game "may" be different than your average MMO, pass it over? Ever stop to think maybe this may be exactly what some may want (something different)? I don't think the company name or IP measures to any amount of success. However I also don't see a game not being your normal expectation to be a bad thing.
It seems to me people are just becoming overly negative for the simple purpose of drowning their own anticipation. Understandable to an extent given the lackluster releases we have seen over the last few years.
The problem with that is.Every game in development today has the ability to be a success, it's up to the Devs to see that through to it's fullest.Things also could go the complete opposite route as well. Time will tell...
However reading a few words is meaningless compared to trying and seeing for oneself. I will always trust my own judgment on what I should be excited for and what I should exclusively avoid. If you can't be excited yet at the same time prepare for the worst that's your own problem.
Anyway back to your regularly scheduled doomsaying, wouldn't be MMORPG.com without it.

Finally more MMO's changing direction, cause EQ is great and all, but all of those 100's of clones of it are starting to get me worn out with the same similar setup.
Star Wars TOR and Final Fantasy XIV seem to be the two most exciting MMO's coming out this year and maybe for a longtime. Both are bring something new to the table on what we may have been missing from the current MMO market.
When I played SWG, I was excited at first, , I found myself not enjoying the controls, the animation was off , the game felt and looked watered down ...I began to grow tired of it way too soon and felt like there has to be someone out there can do this ...but even better.
Bioware and Obsidian provided KOTOR and KOTOR 2, this was the best Star Wars adventure I ever experience, hearing about KOTOR 3 coming soon, I can't be more happy.
This year Star Wars will be reborn in a MMO and I'm very excited to see how it turns out. If successful, which I'm sure it will be..I'm hoping for an expansion with space combat.
Maybe Mass Effect and Dragon Age as MMO's in the future...

Failed to impress: GW2 3months, Tera Online 6 months (best combat system in any MMO I've played) STO 1/4yr, Aion 1/2yr, AoC 1yr, CO, Fallen Earth, DDO, EQ2 1/2yr, WAR 1/2yr, Lineage 2 and FF XI 1/2yr, FF XIV.
Like I said earlier. If this game is close to how this article describes it to be, I just dont see the "hook" on why people would pay the sub. No wonder they thought about making it with an item store. Hell, maybe they still are.
Blea Ill just turn my full attention to FFxiv and save myself a headache. Should it bomb, I think that would be the final nail in my MMO career dating back to meridian59 and dragonsgate.

Lets hope when the beta releases or when more news comes from Lucas/Bioware, we will get a better understanding of where our money is going to go.
If it does have a monthly cost, maybe they can look at a lower cost like 9.99 or less. 12.95 and 14.99 don't have to be the monthly cost, LOTRO has a multi month sub fee for 9.99 and the game is one of my favorite MMO's in my book out right now.
F2P with like you were saying an Item store or even a store to buy access to other places would be nice to see.
If it does not fill my SW needs, which of course I'm hoping it does, I will be going towards FFXIV most definitely, which I'll most likely be playing anyways when it launches.

Just read the article and its stated that TOR will play online like Dragon Age Origins instead of like WoW with a Huge Unique story driven campaign for each class and AI-driven companion characters that will accompany you on difficult quests. There will be PvP but the game will allow you to solo with AI if desired and not require you to group up with teenagers or maniacs that can shred your patience.. WoW its going to be awesome! Cant Wait! Bioware is set to redefine mmos, Dragon age was there test. The Wow Killer has arrived!!!
PC GAMER Feburary 2010 with the Crysis 2 on the Cover!
Uhh... You're serious? How can you call that an MMO? Redefine MMOs? MMOs don't need to be redefined, they already have a definition, its games like EverQuest.
Super solo games like WoW and this game need a new classification.

Hence why it needs better classification. How can someone call a game an MMO when its designed to be done solo, without seeing any other players?
The original MMOs, EverQuest, which were massive in design, and social, can keep the MMO name, games like SWTOR need a new name.

The option to Solo does not mean it's the only way people will play. I'll solo quite a bit while leveling because my biggest interest in OL games is PVP. There will be plenty of time for grouping when I get to that point. This actually looks like a game designed to be enjoyed on the journey to max, rather than at MAX. I for one am glad they are offering options for the soloer or the grouper. Those who want a private experience can have one, those who like insta groups will have them and those who play with a guild at all times will be able to do that as well. As long as the game is fun its win, win IMO.

They aren't giving OPTIONS, they are making it so that the solo path is the most benefitial one, and there is no real need to join up with anyone else.
I need to just stop coming onto the SWTOR forum. There's never a good discussion about the game here, every post just degrades into "Waaaa it's not SWG"

So basically it will be another total failure! Not surprised.
From Bioware? That would be a first =P
No one does RPG's like Bioware. But I mean true RPG's, not the usual level based action games whos only purpose is to get phat loot.
So, for RPG fans this will be a mahor success.
For the leet phat looterz, waiting to raid all week to show their friends their new epic/mythic weapon forget it.... move along

Story driven and community driven are not mutually exclusive.
They are when the community is replaced with "minions".
