I am totally against jumping in mmos till somebody with half a brain makes a mmo that when you jump drains a stamina meter to keep people from bunny hoping everywhere and especially while fighing in PVP. If I see this in any mmo I will log out and uninstall instantly. Go watch boxing, ufc, pride fighting or any kind of fighting and see if they jump around.
Auto Attack = WoW, L2, EVE online and other terrible examples of game making. Well WoW is actually a rather successful example of terrible game making.
So you're implying Eve doesn't require skill? Have you ever played it?
Twitch skill isn't the only type of skill, FPS players just think it is.
There are certain queer times and occasions in this strange mixed affair we call life when a man takes this whole universe for a vast practical joke, though the wit thereof he but dimly discerns, and more than suspects that the joke is at nobody's expense but his own. -- Herman Melville

Eve requires a completely different kind of skill. Collecting information, gathering intelligence, coordinating, setting up a trap, deceiving... Usually once you start mashing buttons the outcome of the battle has already been decided by what you did *before*, rather than relying on the pure "buttonmashing" skill of single soldiers, much like the real wars.

Yes indeed, it is what makes Eve unqiue. I wish more games had even half the amount of planning and strategy that went into an Eve fleet flight. In my opinion that would be progress in the genre. Manual targeting... blah.. I could take it or leave it.

I'm more of a fan of soft lock, because it helps make up for lag and latency effects, and you just need to be in the general area, not directly on top of the target.
To be honest, the manual aim is the only reason I would even consider playing this game. My guild leader has a huge hard on for this game, but to me it just looks like your run of the mill Korean mmorpg...but with manual aim.
I dunno, we'll see, the graphics are pretty, but half nude female characters doesn't really sell a game to me like it did fifteen years ago. So, hopefully, the manual aim is amazing and the lag doesn't mess it up. Also, hoping for an amazing crafting system...still waiting for a game to get that right...
Actually, everything matters on the gameplay. If they make grinding or grind quests as the only way to gain levels, then no matter how cool the manual targetting is, the game will suck. Why? Simple, imagine, that to gain lvl you will need to grind somewhat 500 mobs, each of the time targetting the spell manually. Not only it will take forever, but you will wish you'd never started. I myself would love to try this game and I sincerely hope they won't make the whole targetting system a thing that gets bored after a few fights.
Neat. Manual Aim, too bad half the players will use some sort of aimbot for an advantage in PvP. At the very least there will be a texture mod that will show the hitboxes.
Manual aim can add an extra dimension to the game.
However, any bit of lag or synching problems will ruin the game.
If there is grind (this game comes from korea right?) it will wear heavily on your wrists.
And if there are a lot of skills, will easily turn combat into one fustrating big mess.
And yes, all the best pvpers will be using whatever aim bot is out for this game.
TCOS had a great manual aim combat system, with a rotating skill deck. Worked well since you were not overwhelmed by tons of skills. That game is dead to me now though.

they have said the western version will have a diffrent lvling curve than the Korean - they werent specific, but ofc they will make it take longer for western players to lvl.
also another diffrence in the versions he mentioned, were that they looking at adding achievements to the game.
edit: well you see what you get out of TERAfans fast interview
I realised that you have to aim constantly :-( Am I the only one bummed out over that fact?
If it wasnt for that I would play in a heartbeat .... game looks great.
Aiming keeps it from being boring. Ever since that stupid WoW crowd hit the internet, laziness has come to be the norm. It upsets my stomach when I hear all these whiners that think if a game can not be played with ease by someone that is braindead or utterly retarded then it can't be good. How do all these lazy people feel they are getting any value out of their money by pressing 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2....... OMG people wake up and smell the coffee, learn to use your brain a little, and learn to utilize some skills other than one finger hitting one of ten keys. Have you ever thought that maybe so many games suck in your opinion is because you are only pushing 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2....
They sold us a half-baked Fail-sauced pizza. * With a side of monthly fee!

Yeah! Let's manually aim while we hit 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2. Or perhaps we should turn it into Oblivion and aim while we click-click-click-holdclick-holdclick-click-C-C-C-rclick-rclick-click-C-C-rclick-click-C-C. I mean, you have to constantly aim in Oblivion, and it's an RPG, so that means its combat is more exciting than WoW.
If you ever tried raiding without a brain (what you described), you might pass as DPS. Even then, you'd be at the bottom of the charts and your guildmates would laugh at you. I'd laugh at you until you woke up and paid attention, using the best skills at the best times to get maximum efficiency. Then you could laugh at me.
Oh you think so? Well you go play your WoW-style games and I'll play something that is actually entertaining. Maybe you should buy yourself a good gaming rig LOL.

Why are you speaking of WoW as if it requires ANY skill at all, on any of the difficulty settings of the dungeons and raids? Especially now that it is Disney on Ice (WotLK)
"Then you could laugh at me".... I already am my friend.
watched some gameplay video from E3, very impressive, combat looks like it wont be boring. Will there be some sort of archer class/subclass?
Archer class yes, subclass no.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

Actually, that makes it look better. I was dismayed about this game, cuz it looks really cool and interesting, but until I know it's not going to be based on an item shop, I won't be too excited.
Important facts: 1. Free to Play games are poorly made. 2. Casuals are not all idiots, but idiots call themselves casuals. 3. Great solo and group content are not mutually exclusive, but they suffer when one is shoved into the mold of the other. The same is true of PvP and PvE. 4. Community is more important than you think.

Where's the item mall talk coming from? This one's gonna be sub-based... this has been discussed...
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level, then beat you with experience.
honestly i think most of use are looking forward to it because of the manual targetting. not because we prefer it, but because it means the game will play different from what we're use to. so it might actually feel like a new game for a change and not just the same old thing we've been playing for the past 10 years.
now i'm sure it will have some of the same things the rest of the fantasy MMOs out there have (probably most of the same).but thats atleast one thing we know will be different, and to me changing up the game play itself is a big plus in my book to give it a new game feel.
Yes the only reason I'm paying attention to this game is the manual targetting *snip*
Yep. The game will be more accepted as long as the rest of the game-play is well accomplished, massively-multiplayer engaging, etc.
The instant gratification, fire & forget, cruise-control gaming, entitlement crowd might not enjoy it, though.

I took a look at the trailer for this game and it seems to be an action based Diablo hack and slash but i suppose the trailer can be deceiving.
We go trough life with many yet there is a time we must walk our path alone.

To me, that's a positive part of the game, not a negative.
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

If there is a reason why I'm considering to play this game is the manual aim. Not the miniskirts and boobs but the new type of combat.
