..and all those were GREAT MMos.. ..oh wait.. oh snap! I think he was trying to say that games of the past actually CHALLENGED players.. the majority of MMOs today DO NOT. Other than the fact that they were video games, your interpretation of what you THINK he was saying isn't really revelant. Sure, Pong was challenging to some (maybe you?) for its day and time, but it isn't important to what's going on today and neither are the other games that aren't MMOs.
To keep it simple we are talking about MMOs, not Monopoly, Electronic Football, Risk or other "games" in the past that "challenged people". When you start introducting things that don't have any real connection to a modern MMO other than they both have pixels, that's when threads get derailed.
The reason you have to aim is a HUGE reason as to why a lot of us want to play. Take's a lot more skill to actually aim at what your trying to hit, then to have the old school auto aim.
Not surprised there are going to be people who aren't going to like it. To each his own.
I agree that aiming adds a lot to skill but it is not the only factor that goes into "skill".It can actually remove skill especially if this game runs on Korean servers, the latency issue would be HUGE !.
I have noticed large gaps in latency just playing south/east/west servers in the USA.
The game will be available on top-notch quality servers located in both NA and EU at launch, so that shouldn't be a problem.
It was said in their FGT report that there where close to no reports of lags at all. Even though the servers was based in NA and having testers from all over the world basically.
Since that has been mentioned, I'm sure I'm allowed to say that I played in the FGT from EU and experienced no lags at all. It ran smoother than WoW on EU servers do in my experience. I should also mention that I have a very awful connection, ADSL 5Mbit. So, there's that.
Most of the current MMORPGs don't require much skill. You just need a lot of time on your hands to be a pro. However in this MMO, you need skill and I'm hoping not as much time needs to be invested to be pro at the game like most MMORPGs. I don't really understand why your disappointed. The gameplay is rather boring if all you do is spam the same skills each time you kill a mob.
I wouldn't complain too much about having to aim. I believe it is going to become a trend in upcoming MMOs because it is "innovative" in the market, at least. With not wanted to be another WoW clone, many MMOs are looking for that edge that'll be successful and effective. Whether it'll be with Tera, or a game release afterwards, who knows?
I can see how some people aren't a fan of the manual targeting, I myself am wary due to the fact latency is going to play a much larger role and living in Oceania i doubt i'll bother playing it without it having a local server.
It does not require more 'skill' to play an aimed shooter mmo. Also this is NOT an innovative feature nor is it new. Spellborn anyone? lol silly wabbits. Until everyone on a server is playing with really good and fast internet speeds this type of game will suffer.
It does require more skill (as in faster reaction which is included in everything skill), at least more than the "tab-based" MMOs. Also, it is innovative, there are some MMOs out there that have aim based, but that doesn't mean it's not innovative. Besides, these MMOs barely grasped the concept of aim-based play and everything else was wrong. TERA is the first high-budget MMO to use twitch based combat. The game will run on T1 servers to limit lag, there was no lag at all in FGT1.
I realised that you have to aim constantly :-( Am I the only one bummed out over that fact?
If it wasnt for that I would play in a heartbeat .... game looks great.
Now you complain when they make it more interesting and skill dependent instead of just clicking once and watching them die? Please don't play this game, thank you.
Just because you have to aim doesn't make it kill dependent. You have to aim on COD but that takes 0 skill.

Every game takes skill, either be it in the form of brain challenge (e.g. WoW pve ability rotations) or in the form of reaction challenge (CoD, CS, maybe DotA). TERA requires you to have both good aim and understand your class well, what it does, what abilities to do next and when and yeah...you get the point.
I got a friend who isn't really that intelligent, I'm sure he would totally fail in MMOs even the simplest ones and yet he is one of the best CS players in my country. Guess what he is in that game?
I thank the gods this mmo took a step away from auto-aim games like lineage, Aion and etc...where is the fun in pvp if all you need to do is to click and watch the animation? No skill required? I really hope more mmos will take Tera as a example and stop with the auto aiming...then again it might not matter at all, if Tera is as good as it seems to be, I'll just stay there for a long time
lol? what this dude say? I was sure that every1 want to play the game for this reason because u must aim yourself where u throw arrows/cast spells because its more chalenging this way because auto-atk was so simple/common & borring because u wont stand still while spam button and now u must move around during combat and avoid enemy hits..
Man go play some "stand-still-spam-buttons-game" and dont bother to try Tera, this game is obviously not for u thx and bb.

This, people have no clue. Finally a game where you have to manually aim to hit a foe and people want back the shitty TAB autotarget brainless skill spamfest? I still continue to not believe what i'm reading in these pages, probably the op is a troll or a wow fanboy followed by some korean mmo haters.
Well be careful of what you wish for. Manual aiming systems are often very open to exploits, speed hacks, aimbots etc. They also have a tendency to affect the ranged players more than the melee players. Just have to wait to see how they implement it.

What does manual aiming have to do with speed hacks? They rely on moverment not aiming system. The rest i can see.
Thats exactly the fun part! U know autoaim was yesterday-manual aim is the future- and the right step into the right direction.
manual aiming will force your brain to be active-it will strenghten your coordination that u prolly need in real life too- so its not a total time waster
Noooo! Now I need to make more room for movement of my mouse since I no longer can prop my feet up on the shelf next to me while hitting tab to target and num keys to activate skills in my current mmos.. What are they thinking? Making me work more...sheesh. How dare they! ......Oh wait....That means I wont fall asleep in raids any longer. Way to go Tera Devs.
Thats alll sarcasim by the way. I like the idea of having to manually aim. Anything to keep you on your toes.

Aimbot will be completely uneffective in this game, its not an fps with guns; fireballs and arrows have traveling times. if you don't aim in advance then you will fail. As for melee, I guess it's easy to aim in the right direction now, isn't it?

There's no point in discussing anything with Ozmodan. He will find anything to whine about in a game.
I realised that you have to aim constantly :-( Am I the only one bummed out over that fact?

Well there's nothing wrong with wanting auto-aim. However, if this is a deal breaker for you then you'll just have to accept the fact that some games will just not accommodate your desired playstyle. My recommendation would be to wait for the game to come out & read the posts from players in the game. If they like it & apparently you like most of this game's features, then give it a shot.
I used to hate PvP but was forced into it w/ an MMO I played in the past. After some time, I've actually come to enjoy it greatly. Perhaps something similar might happen for you. If this is the only feature turning you off then be more open & maybe you'll also enjoy aim as well as all the other features which attract you to this game.

I cant believe this post. Havnt you been reading how its the first "True Action MMO"?
Aiming yourself is gonna seperate the skilled from the not so skilled.
How disappointed are you that you are going to have to dodge attacks constantly too instead of relying on dodge and parry skills?
And also, this might make it appeal more to FPS players too!
