I think the game will do really well because It isn't complex and it will be easy to get into just like WoW. I'm just not sure how long the success will last.

Good articles are so hard to come by, but I fully agree with everything here. Give the game a chance to exist before saying it's dying, dead, awesome or the best there ever was. As for the space exploration, I don't get why fans were so irked it was limited in this game. I don't remember Hans touring the galaxy just to see the pretty stars. Wasn't that like, Picard? Whole other IP. Trek = exporation, War = kill shit. End of story.

Sorry but this blog fails hard ,  all those things u wrote arent anything but some imaginations and ure craping on sw tor on top of it without knowing anything about it .

Hype  for this game, where ?

Is see only gw 2 here gw 2 there.

And btw SW TOR been in developemnt so long now that we know allmost everything about this game , at least those people who cared to know .

Some sw galaxies players shouldnt  think this game has or will have something to do with it cos it want not by a long shot .

Good article.   I agree with everything it won't be.

I disagree with summing up those that want "meaningful space content" as "space exploration" just because I think it misrepresents the community's concerns (even though I agree they are a moot point given that nothing would change).

I think most people aren't thinking about exploring new worlds and new civilizations when they think star wars space.  I think they're thinking about doing the kessel run on their smuggler, about chasing prey on their bounty hunter, about breaking a planetary blockade with their roguesque squadron, etc.    X-Wing vs. Tie-Fighter had nothing to do with space exploration and while EVE and STO do have some exploration, the majority of those games gameplay is based around space adventures in the midst of  known, charted and populated galaxies.

But anyhow, otherwise, great article.  Hopefully some people will actually read it.

You should stick with your vows.  Breaking them just shows you have poor character.

You never heard how much praise the Bioware devs give to WoW?   You think it isn't gonna have alot of things in common with that game?  They say they aren't trying to re-invent the wheel. They say blizzard got it right the first time.  So , if you are just figuring this out then you don't pay that much attention.  It will have some of the same or similiar mechanics as WoW. Themeparkish, and controls the like.

BioWare is taking what works and building upon it.  It makes no sense starting over from scratch.  And it makes alot of sense for a dev to praise a game that has been so universally accepted.

While I don't believe the game will be JUST WoW with lightsabers... what if it was?

WoW, with it's familiar interface that works well, with new classes, races, quests, stories, lore, multiple planets... and lightsabers!  Doesn't sound too shabby...

This is a gaming site.... I assume that the people posting here are doing so, in part, because they enjoy the hobby....and enjoy the intellectual excercise of discussing different aspects of that hobby, including opinions about design decisions and game mechanics with other enthusiasts. Really, is it any different then fans on a sports site discussing the relative merits of the Designated Hitter Rule?

Frankly, if the discussion here was limitied to a simple regurgitation of the known mechanics/features of any particular game....rather then a discussion of thier merits.... and "What if's" and so forth...this site would be about as entertaining as watching grass grow.

Note...that is not the same as trolling....which would be posting to simply annoy, frustrate or get a rise out of some-one. I'm sure there is a fair share of that going on surrounding TOR.... but alot of fans and critics alike simply enjoy expressing thier honest opinions and enjoy exploring the basis by which others hold differing viewpoints.

    This!

I'm in agreement, for some reason all I kept seeing in this article was Jon calling people trolls because they post in gaming forums their thoughts about what they like/don't like about this game.

What the hell else are these forums for but for PVP between its members?

Oh, I know, to sell advertising revenue, I forgot.

     I totally disagree....

The main general brds, at least to me, are where ideas are to be argued. The specific game forums should be for disuccions on what a game actually is, or can be put into the existing structure.....not a NGE hack fest mod job.

Jon's article is spot on. The trolling in the TOR section is beyond belief.

Thank you Jon for pointing out how silly all of it is.

BTW....I would ask that the complaints of TOR be directed to their own forum. SO those of us wishing to actually discuss what is in game dont have to wade thru a bunch of BS.

Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.

You are correct. I think the biggest problem some have, Is that they are not doing any actual research on the game at all before they post about things that are totally false.  They come here, read some bullcrude post and then take it as gospel on how TOR will be.

If you line up everything about TOR against what WOW has, you will see that even though there are similarities, there is also some big differences that are very apparent.

".....the exploration of empty space just isn’t what the Star Wars IP is all about...."

    Oh yes?

Luke flying off to find Degobah

Han travelling through hyperspace to find the ashes of Alderan

Obi Wan setting off to find the secret planet of Kamino

Vader and the Imperial fleet scouring the galaxy to find Luke.

Come off it, exploration of space is central to all those incidents.

yep entire article about taking a few (out of many) shortcommings this game has and creating somes sort of excuse for it.

Those bright-colored screenshots of VERY-cartoony-looking characters do not inspire trust in this game too...especially that one with overmuscular(seriously looks like WWE wrestler) malak-clone-gorilla jumping in the air....

    Wrong.

The article doesn't present any of these thigns as shortcomings, merely a look at what it is. I understand that YOU think they are shortcomings, but that doesn't mean that they are. Please don't put words in my mouth.

That's what I got out of your article too.

Perhaps it didn't say what you meant it to say.

None 0of those cases are space exploration

, there either going from pijnt a to b or are looking for something specific, this isnt exploration, nd could all easily be done withouth any kind of free roaming space, which is what space sim fanboys cant seem to understand, anything space about star wars can and will be done without the need of any free roam space, just like with 95% of star wars games.

Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling"

Money. Profit. Why else call a game a MMO when it isn't? Marketing spin.

I am not saying SW:TOR won't be a MMO... I think we have too little information to make accurate assessment on that question... but if it turns out to be less than a MMO it won't be the first game to use the title MMO just to garner extra hype and press and increase sales.

Alright, then I'll update with you're wrong. There is plenty of info out there to tell you this is indeed a full fledged MMO. From articles to leaked footage of players scattered out crossing paths on the same planet.
