this game gonna be purly aimed at its intended fan base. but too say they will be no space exploration sure maybe not now but never know what will come years after its launched its a mmo and yeah they will add more stuff. But i think pretty much all the bioware fans will love the game and problably even the kotor fans too.

And i really dont care what other people "think" it should be

I cant wait for this game to come out ,the 100% voice over quests and Class dynamics alone have peaked my intrest enough that i will pre-order the collectors edition.

This will be a new phase in MMOs , that part i will garauntee. So if it doesnt make a big splash as WoW did , why should i care? why should anyone care?

Its time to take this game for what it is and stop trying to make it what YOU want it to be.

For the record i agree 100%times 10. it wont be a wow killer but i can pretty much freakin gurantee it will be up there with wow simple fact if you see the sell that came out of mass effect and dragon age and biowares fan base bioware about as old as blizzard if not a little older gonna be a clash of the titans.

I pretty much agree with the article in most ways.  It wont be the best game ever.  I personally think the graphic quality of the models [especially females] needs more polish.  It wont be a game breaker though.  When they decided to add space combat late , I gave up on waiting for them to smooth them out cause I knew they were likely spreading the team a little thin for it.    About that time I moved on to a more polished game also launching in the spring.   Also there are so many games launching next year that I honestly cant see a grand slam for any of them.

As for the WoW killer , it wont be another game.   It will be Blizzard it self that kills WoW by finally making changes that are just too drastic.   LIke all the fading stars it wont be gone completely but there will come a time in the next fear years i think that most people will speak of WoW in past terms as if it were no more, while a small portion of its population clings on.   We have seen it before and we will see it again.

I think that is already happening, all MMOs slowly dies after some years, they don't get "killed" by another game.

But TOR, GW2, Rift and TERA might bleed out players from Wow, It wouldn't surprise me if Wow lost 75% of the western players in the next 3 years to newer games. You can't stay on top forever with the same game no matter how much you change it.

TOR will get some of Wows old players, how many depends on how good the game is. But the main group will most likely be Bioware fans.

I would personally worry more about Arenanet than Bioware if I were Blizzard, Bioware are aiming for different players mostly while Arenanet got many of what used to be Blizzards best people working for them. And possibly Trion since Rift is closer to Wow than both TOR and GW2, but it is hard to say yet.

I really think you have just to look at Biowares recent games Mass effect and Dragon Age to get an idea where Bioware are coming at the mmo genre from. I actually think SW:TOR will be a big game on launch with tons to do, written with the Western gamer market in mind, and offering mmo elements that average joe warcraft can dig as well. Likely a big hit next year.

I don't think he even read the article because Jon Wood actually doesn't whine at all ...he merely articulates what SWTOR is going to be about

A Star Wars without space combat.. Come on, some of the best epic fight scenes are in space.

We have lightsabers which identify Star Wars, still no space combat, it wont be Star Wars enough.

I will play SW:ToR like everyone else, but feel it will be missing a important ingredient to bark about.

So when you play it, are you going to skip the space combat part?

He does not articulate what SWTOR will be all about... he sais even what Bioware said it will be will be not... his article is poorly documented and ill intended. If you read only his article you will not play SWTOR ever. For more info pls go on the official website.. many of you didnlt even go there but you post like you know what you are talking about.

I agree.  It reminds me of when SOE paid name actors to do voicework for EQ2.

What matters is how the game plays.  The feel of combat and the satisfaction of advancement.  I liked Mass Effect 2 but its only worth a couple playthroughs. MMO players will devour SWTOR's storylines in the first 6 months.  From then on it's going be the core gameplay that decides if this thing has any longterm value.

Investors may not invest in the next 'geewiz' idea for a mmo if BW cant pull this off. It may not have cost $300 million like the louse says but with the whole game being fully voiced it cant be cheap. Thats why Funcom didnt voice all their game after lvl 20. I seriously believe, unbiasedly, that this is the biggest and most important release in MMO's in years.

I don't see this happening mainly becuase, the things it adds to mmos , GW2 has to a lesser but still very significant effect. So reguardless of its sucess or failure i do not see it impacting the mmo market (other than sub numbers). Now the voicing is cool but i do not think it will make or break anything nor be the sucess or failure of the game, thus i do not think it will be copied or dropped from mmo market.

I agree with Jetrpg this game will sell good all the Star wars fans will buy it and this is in the milions range... and ppl pls go on the official webpage for info... you don;t even know what you are talking about most of you, only read this article (i am nmot going to mention my opinion about it anymore) and you post coments like you are right Wood i agree with you etc. Do on the official page first read about the game and then post that he is right.. he is not right in may aspects, meaby 10% of this trolling is right the rest is bad research and miss information.

Ehh I happen to know people in the beta would would disagree that this game is not going to be a blockbuster success.  Acrroding to my very discerning sources, the game is easily the greatest MMO ever created, and this is not even coming from Star Wars fans like myself.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

Correction: he articulates what TOR isn't going to be about. If he wanted to articulate what TOR would be about, he would have to write a 5 page article on space combat, story, advanced classes, class roles, planets, companions, flashpoints, music, KOTOR, class mechanics, themeparks, WoW, RvR, PvP, PvE, and raids. And honestly, if someone isn't going to go to the actual site to see what TOR is about by clicking on a few buttons, they're not going to read a long ass article that would regurgitate the same thing. This article has a specific audience; basically, those who have serious, gross misconceptions about what TOR is, what TOR will be, and what TOR should be.

I totaly agree with this point of view. Nice to see some ppl know what they are talking about.

Are they?  OMG!  Do you have a link to the Bolivian Navy maneuvers?  Now that would be interesting - unlike this article.

as a matter of fact this game is making the old republic come alive any starwars fan is going to love it, they can see and interact with the characters of legand anyone looking for anything else is gonig to be dissapointed but as for me i'm going to love it rping a jedi, talking to some of my favorit characters.  I do agree about space combat they should have waited in introduced it as an expansion make it more then just a ship combat cookie cutter i just hope theres more then just fighting in space.
